பதினெட்டு புராணங்களின் சாரம் இரண்டே வரிகளில்!

புராணங்கள் 18. இவற்றைப் படிப்பதென்பது சாதாரணமாக முடியாத காரியம். தக்க ஒருவரிடமிருந்து பாடம் கேட்டால் தான் இந்த 18 புராணங்களின் உட்பொருளை உள்ளது உள்ள படி அறிய முடியும்.
ஆனால் இந்த 18 புராணங்களில் வேத வியாஸர் என்ன சொல்லி இருக்கிறார் என்பதை இரண்டே வரிகளில் சுருக்கமாகச் சொல்லி விடலாம் என்கிறது ஒரு சுபாஷித ஸ்லோகம்.
அஷ்டாதச புராணேஷு வ்யாஸஸ்ய வசனத்வயம் |
பரோபாகார: புண்யாய பாபாய பரபீடனம் ||
பதினெட்டு புராணங்களிலும் வியாசர் சொல்லி இருப்பது இரண்டு வரிகளைத் தான்! பிறருக்கு நல்லது செய்வது புண்யம்; பிறருக்குத் தீமை செய்வது பாவம்.
In the whole of the eighteen Puranas, Vyasa has observed only two sentences – doing good to others is meritorious, and hurting others is sinful.

ஸ்ரோத்ரம் ஸ்ருதேனைவ ந குண்டலேன தானேன பாணீனம் ச கங்கணேன |
விபாதி காய: குணாபராணாம் பரோபகாரைனம் து சந்தனேன ||
காதுக்கு அழகாவது கற்றலே; குண்டலங்கள் அல்ல. கைக்கு அழகாவது தானம் கொடுத்தலே; கங்கணம் அல்ல! உடலுக்கு அழகூட்டுவது சந்தனம் அல்ல, மற்றவருக்கு செய்யும் பரோபகாரமே!
The ear is embellished by the learning and not by ear rings, the hands by the acts of donation and not by the bangles and the body is serving others and not by sandal pastes – all this relates to the compassionate one.

ஒத்ததறிவான் உயிர் வாழ்வான் மற்றையான்
செத்தாருள் வைக்கப்படும்
என்றார் வள்ளுவரும்.
இதையே ஸ்வாமி விவேகானந்தர்,
They alone live for others, the rest are more dead than alive
என்றார். (பிறருக்காக உயிர் வாழ்பவனே வாழ்பவன் மற்றவர் எல்லாம் உயிரோடு இருந்தாலும் இறந்ததற்குச் சமமே)

பிபந்தி நத்ய: ஸ்வயமேவ நாம்ப: ஸ்வயம் ந காதந்தி பலானி வ்ருக்ஷா: |
பயோமுசாம்ப: கிவசிதஸ்தி பாஸ்யம் பரோபகாராய சதாம் விபூதய: ||
நதிகள் தண்ணீரைத் தானே குடிப்பதில்லை, மரங்கள் தமது பழங்களைத் தாமே உண்ணுவதில்லை, மழைத் தண்ணீர் நீரைத் தனக்குத் தானே அடக்கி வைத்துக் கொள்வதில்லை. நல்லோர்களின் உடைமைகள் மற்றவருக்கு உதவி புரிவதற்காகவே உள்ளன.
Rivers never drink the water themselves, the trees never eat their fruits, the rain water never restrained, the properties of the good are for serving others.

பவந்தி நம்ராஸ்தரவ: பலோத்கமைர்நவாம்புபிர்தூரவிலம்பினோ தனா: |
அனுத்ததா: சத்புருஷா: சம்ருத்திபி: ஸ்வபாவ ஏவைஷ பரோபகாரிணாம் ||
மரங்கள் பழுத்தவுடன் கிளைகளைத் தாழ விடுவதைப் பார்க்கிறோம், நீரை ஏந்தி இருக்கும் மேகங்கள் நீரின் கனத்துடன் மெதுவாக நகருகின்றன, நல்ல மனிதர்கள் செல்வத்துடன் இருக்கும் போது கர்வப்படுவதில்லை. இதுவே பிறருக்கு உதவி செய்பவரின் இயல்பாகும்.
Trees are seen bending their boughs when they put forth fruits, rain clouds move slowly with the weight of water, good people are devoid of pride when they are endowed with richness, this is the nature of men who are prone to helping others.
