HINDU temple vandalization in Andhra Pradesh

Desecration of Hindu temples in Andhra has become a big political issue

HERE IS A SUMMARY FROM INDIAN NEWSPAPERS-

A series of incidents of vandalization of Hindu temples in different parts of Andhra Pradesh is snowballing into a major issue with the opposition targeting the Jagan Mohan Reddy government for its inaction and the YSR Congress party openly accusing the Telugu Desam Party of involvement in the incidents.

The political tussle over the matter peaked on Saturday with TDP president and former chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu visiting the 400-year-old Ramatirtham temple in Vizianagaram district, where the idol of Lord Rama was found desecrated on December 28.

In a swift reaction to the desecration of an idol in Ramatheertham temple, the state government sacked senior Telugu Desam leader Pusapati Ashok Gajapathi Raju from the chairman posts of Rama Swamy Devasthanam, and two other Devasthanams for failure in temple administration.

A tense situation is prevailing in Ramatheertalu village of Vizianagaram district in Andhra Pradesh with leaders of  the ruling YSRC, Opposition TDP and BJP visiting the ancient temple where the idol of Lord Sri Rama was vandalised.

The idol of Lord Sri Rama was vandalised and the severed portion of the idol was found in the temple pond the next day.

Former chief minister Naidu said,  in the last 18 months of YSRC regime, there had been 127 incidents of attacks on temples and desecration of idols, hurting the sentiments of Hindu devotees, but not a single culprit was punished till date.

Naidu said that the beheading of the Rama statue was a ‘great disgrace’ to the land.

NEWS FROM UTTAPRADESH

UTTAR PRADESH STATE GOVERNMENT to transfer Rs 12K each to labourers selected for religious travel

The Yogi government will provide Rs 12,000 each to a selected number of labourers, employed in close to 6.5 lakh commercial establishments and 20,500 factories and workshops in Uttar Pradesh, to undertake religious travel said officials.

The process would begin from January 24, the state’s foundation day, when the state’s labour welfare board would invite applications from nearly 1.5 CRORE labourers, enrolled with the board, to avail the benefit under Swami Vivekananda Itihasik Yatra Yojana.

“For travel, the board has identified places like religious cities of Ayodhya, Mathura, Prayagraj and Varanasi, along with Hastinapur in Meerut, Gorakhnath temple in Gorakhpur, the temples of Shakumbhari Devi and Vindhyavasini Devi. We will also allow travel to Agra. Apart from these, there would be some more places for which the beneficiaries would have to make an application,” said Sunil Bharala, the board chairman who has a minister of state rank.

The scheme was conceptualised on November 10— the birth anniversary of Dattopant Thengadi, the RSS ideologue, who founded the Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh (BMS), a trade union organisation, which acts as a pressure group to enforce pro-labour policies.

BOARD CHAIRMAN SUNIL BHARALA ADDED…………………

“We have a scheme for marriage of daughters of labourers, named after social reformer and Dalit icon Jyotiba Phule.

There is another scheme named after former President APJ Abdul Kalam aimed at helping labourers’ children pursue technical education,

an incentive scheme named after freedom fighter and journalist Ganesh Shankar Vidyarthi,

financial compensation for kin of labourers named after Raja Harishchandra. T

here is another scheme to provide financial assistance for completing the last rites of labourers that is named after Dattopant Thengadi,” he said.

SARAYU RIVER UNDER TEMPLE SITE

The Shri Ram Janmbhoomi Teerth Kshetra trust has asked the engineers from the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) to formulate a better model for Ram Mandir’s foundation after a stream of the Sarayu river was reportedly found flowing below it.

The committee, chaired by former principal secretary to the prime minister Nripendra Misra, overlooking the temple’s construction held a meeting in this regard on December 29. During the meeting, it was realized that the existing model for the foundation of the Mandir would not be feasible because of the stream of the Sarayu River flowing below the temple site. The trust has requested the IITs including IIT Mumbai and IIT Delhi, to propose a better model for a strong foundation.

Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) chief Alok Kumar said that the engineers from top institutes of India would work on the model to ensure structural stability of the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya.
