 Lesson Seven

Sit= utkaar

Stand = nil

xxx

உட்கார்

First part is stem of the verb+ present tense + PGN

உட்கார் +கிற் +ஏன் = உட்கார்கிறேன்

I sit

xxx

உட்கார்+வ் +ஏன் = உட்கார்வேன்

I will sit

Here we add V with the stem+ PGN (utkaarVen)

xxx

உட்கார்+ந்த் + ஏன் = உட்கார்ந்தேன்

I sat

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

நான் பிபிசி மைக்குடன்  (மைக் + உடன்) நிற்கிறேன் I stand with BBC Mike

நில்

நிற் +கிற் +ஏன் = நிற்கிறேன்

I stand

xxxx

நிற் +ப்  +ஏன் = நிற்பேன்

I will stand

Note: I told you present is very simple, because we add KIRA+PGN to the stem.

I also told you Future Tense is also simple because we add P or V to the stem+ PGN

Here we add P (nirPen)

xxx

நின் ற் + ஏன் = நின்றேன்

I stood

Xxxx

The beauty of Tamil language is, like Sanskrit, you don’t even need the subject like I ,You, He, She, They or It

The PGN of the verb will show it.

If I write உட்கார்கிறேன் utkarKIREN,

the last part KIREN means first person singular ( ‘I’).

So the PGN (person, gender, number) part of the verb, the last bit in the verb, will tell you whether it is present, future, past, whether it is male or female or animal/low category/inanimate and whether it is singular or plural.

To be continued………………………………………
