ஒரு கவிஞர் பாடினார்
அன்பின் பாதை ஒரு அக்கினிப் பரீட்சை
கோழைகள் அதிலிருந்து ஓடிவிடுவர்
அஹிம்சை என்பதும் அன்புப் பாதை. அதை ஒருவர் தனிக்கத்தான் கடக்கவேண்டும் .
ஆனால் ஒருவர் ஒரு நியாயமான கேள்வியை என்னிடம் கேட்கலாம். கன்றுக்குட்டிக்கு பின்பற்றிய நீதியை மனிதர்களுக்கும் பின்பற்றுவீர்களா? ஐயா காந்திஜியே, உம்ம விஷயத்தில நீ இதைக் கடைப்பிடிப்பியா?
இதோ என் பதில்– ஆமாம்; அப்படித்தான் செய்வேன் . அதே விதி, இந்த இரண்டு கேள்விக்கும் பொருந்தும்.
யதா பிண்டே, ததா பிரஹ்மாண்டே (பிண்டத்தில் இருப்பது பிரஹ்மாண்டத்திலும் இருக்கிறது ); இதற்கு விதிவிலக்கு என்பதே இல்லை ; கன்றுக்குட்டியைக் கொன்ற முறை தவறானது; வன்முறை/ ஹிம்சை மிக்கது .
ஆனால் நிஜ வாழ்வில் நம்முடைய சொந்த பந்தங்கள் நோய்வாய்ப்பட்டால் இந்த விதியைப் பின்பற்றி மரணத்தைக் கொடுப்பதில்லை ; ஏனெனில் அவர்களுக்கு உதவி செய்ய சில வழிகள் நம்மிடம் உள்ளன. மேலும் அவர்களுக்கு சிந்தித்து முடிவு எடுக்கும் ஆற்றல் உள்ளது. ஒரு உதாரணத்தைப் பார்ப்போம் என் நண்பருக்கு நோய் வந்துவிட்டது அவருக்கு இனி என்னால் எந்த உதவியும் செய்ய முடியாது; அவரும் உயிர்பிழைக்க வாய்ப்பே இல்லை ; அவர் நினைவற்ற நிலையில் இருக்கிறார் ; வலியால் துடித்துக் கொண்டு இருக்கிறார் என்று வைத்துக்கொள்வோம் . இந்த நிலையில் அவருடைய உயிரை முடித்துவைப்பதை நான் ஹிம்சை என்று கருதவில்லை.டாக்டரின் கத்தியும் கொலைகாரன் கத்தியும்
ஒரு நோயாளியிடத்தில் அவனது நோயைக் குணப்படுத்த,அறுவைச் சிகிச்சை மருத்துவர் கத்தியால் உடற்பகுதிகளை வெட்டி சிகிச்சை தருகிறார் ; இதே போல சில தருணங்களில் ஒருவர் மேலும் ஒரு படி சென்று , நோயாளியின் நலனுக்காக அவரது உயிரைத் துண்டிக்கும் தேவை ஏற்படலாம். சிலர் இதற்கு ஆட்சேபனை தெரிவிக்கலாம். நீங்கள் சொன்ன முதல் உதாரணம் உயிரைக் காப்பாற்ற நடந்தது; இரண்டாவதில் உயிரை எடுக்க அல்லவா செய்தீர்கள் என்று .; இதை ஆழமாக சிந்தித்துப் பார்த்தால் இரண்டிலும் குறிக்கோள் ஒன்றுதான் என்பது புலப்படும் கஷ்டப்படும் ஆன்மாவை அதிலிருந்து விடுவிப்பதுதான் .ஒரு சிகிச்சையில் வலி ஏற்படுத்திய பகுதியை டாக்டர் வெட்டி எடுத்தார் இன்னொரு சிகிச்சையில் வலியை நிறுத்த முடியாத உயிரை நீக்கினார் அப் போது அந்த உடலுக்கு/ சவத்துக்கு இன்பமோ துன்பமோ இல்லை. இன்னும் சில சம்பவங்களையும் கற்பனை செயது பார்ப்போம். அங்கும் கொல்லாமல் விடுவதே ஹிம்சை; கொன்று தீர்ப்பதே அஹிம்சை எனப்படும் . என்னுடைய மகளின் நோக்கத்தை அறிய நேரமே இல்லாத ஓர் நொடிப்பொழுதில் அவளை ஒருவன் தாக்குகிறான் ; அவளை என்னாலும் காப்பாற்றும் நிலை இல்லை என்று வைத்துக்கொள்ளுங்கள் . அப்பொழுது (மானத்தைக் காப்பாற்ற) அவளை நான் கொன்றுவிட்டு, அந்த முரடனை என் பலத்தைக் கொண்டு சமாளிப்பேன் . இது அஹிம்சையே.
ஆனால் பெரிய தொல்லை என்னவென்றால் , நம்முடைய அஹிம்சாவாதிகள் அஹிம்சை என்பது வணங்கப்படவேண்டிய ஒரு வஸ்து / ஒரு தாயத்து என்று கருதிக்கொண்டு அதைப் பின்பற்றுவதில் தடைகளையே போடுகிறார்கள் .
முடிவாக ஒன்று சொல்கிறேன் கோபத்தின் காரணமாகவோ, சுயநலத்தின் காரணமாகவோ ஒருவருக்கு தீங்கு செய்வது , தீங்கு செய்ய விரும்புவது , எதனுடைய உயிரையும் வாங்குவது ஹிம்சை எனப்படும்; இதற்கு நேர் மாறாக , ஆழ்ந்த சிந்தனைக்குப் பின்னர், ஒருவனுடைய உடல் ரீதியிலான, ஆன்மீக ரீதியிலான நன்மையை மனதில் கொண்டு, ஒருவருடைய உயிருக்கு முடிவுகட்டினால் அது அஹிம்சை எனப்படும்.; ஆனால் ஒவ்வொரு விஷயத்தையும் தனித்தனியே பார்த்து, அதன் நன்மை தீமைகளை ஆராய்ந்து, முடிவு செய்ய வேண்டும் ; இறுதியாக ஒரு செயல் ஹிம்சையா அஹிம்சையா என்பது அதன் நோக்கத்தையே சார்ந்தது ஆகும்.

தாந்தேயின் அபார நினைவாற்றல் சக்தி!
இத்தாலிய கவிஞரான தாந்தே (1265-1321) அபார நினைவாற்றல் சக்தியைக் கொண்டவர். அவரது டிவைன் காமடி (Divine Comedy) என்ற கவிதை உலகப் பிரசித்தி பெற்றது. இத்தாலிய மொழியின் தந்தை என்றும் அவர் புகழப்படுகிறார்.
ஒரு நாள் அவர் ஃப்ளோரென்ஸ் நகர் வீதியில் நடந்து கொண்டிருந்தார். அப்போது ஒருவன் அவரை அணுகி, “உலகில் சுவையான உணவு எது?”
என்று கேட்டான்.
அவனைச் சரியாகக் கவனிக்காமலேயே “முட்டை தான்” என்று பதில் கூறியவாறே நடந்தார் தாந்தே.
ஒரு வருடம் கழிந்தது. அதே நபர் அதே வீதியில் கவிஞர் நடந்து வந்து கொண்டிருந்தபோது, அவரிடம் வந்து, “எதனுடன்?” என்று கேட்டான்.
முந்தைய வருட சம்பவத்தைப் பற்றி தாந்தே நினைத்தாரா இல்லையா யாருக்கும் தெரியாது, ஆனால் அவர், “உப்புடன்” என்று பதில் கூறியவாறே நடந்தார்.
விக்டர் ஹ்யூகோவின் கேள்விக் குறி?
பிரான்ஸ் நாட்டில் நாடகம், கவிதை, இலக்கியக் கட்டுரைகள் ஆகியவற்றின் படைப்பிற்குப் பெயர் பெற்றவராகத் திகழ்ந்தார் அறிஞர் விக்டர் ஹ்யூகோ (1802-1835)
அவரது எழுத்துக்கள் ஐரோப்பா முழுவதும் பரவி அவருக்குப் புகழைத் தந்தது. நாடர்டேம் டீ பாரிஸ் என்ற நாவலும் லெஸ் மிஸரபிள்ஸ் என்ற அவரது நாவலும் குறிப்பிடத் தகுந்தவை. 1862இல் அவர் லெஸ் மிஸரபிள்ஸ் நாவலை பிரசுரத்திற்காக தனது வெளியீட்டாளரிடம் அனுப்பினார். ஆனால் அது வாசகர்களிடையே வரவேற்பைப் பெற்றதா இல்லையா என்று அவருக்குத் தெரியவில்லை.
ஆவல் உந்த ஒரு கேள்விக்குறியை இட்டு ஒரு பேப்பரை தனது பப்ளிஷரிடம் அவர் அனுப்பினார்.
உட்னேயே பதில் வந்தது ஒரு பேப்பரில் – அதில் இருந்தது ஒரு ஆச்சரியக் குறி மட்டுமே!
அபாரமான வரவேற்பு என்று புரிந்து கொண்டார் விக்டர் ஹ்யூகோ.
பிகாஸோவின் (PABLO PICASSO) பயம்!
பாப்லோ பிகாஸோவுக்கு உயில் எழுதுவது என்றால் பயம். தன் உயிலைத் தான் எழுதினால் உடனே தனக்கு மரணம் சம்பவிக்கும் என்று அவர் நம்பினார். ஆகவே அவர் உயில் எழுத மறுத்தார்.
1881ஆம் வருடம் அக்டோபர் மாதம் 25ஆம் தேதி அவர் பிறந்தார்.
1973 ஏப்ரல் 8ஆம் தேதி அவர் மறையும் போது அவருக்கு வயது 92.
இந்த உயில் எழுத மறுத்ததால் அவருக்கும் குடும்பத்தாருக்கும் நேர்ந்த சங்கடங்கள் பல.
அவரது விதவை மனைவியான ஜாக்குலினுக்கும் அவரது நான்கு குழந்தைகளுக்கும் சொத்து கிடைப்பதில் சட்டச் சிக்கல் ஏற்பட்டு அது பல வருடங்கள் நீடித்தது. அவரது படைப்புகள் பற்றிய ஆராய்ச்சியில் இது கொண்டு விட அங்குமிங்குமாக சிதறிக் கிடந்த அவரது 60000 கலைப் படைப்புகள் பற்றிய விவரங்கள் சேகரிக்கப்பட்டன.
எண்பது வருட கால உழைப்பில் உருவானவை அவை.
ஒரு சமயம் உணவு விடுதி ஒன்றில் அவர் இருந்த போது ஒரு பெண்மணி அவரை அணுகி தனது கைக்குட்டையில் எதையாவது எழுதுமாறு வேண்டினார். அதற்கு எவ்வளவு பணம் சொன்னாலும் தருவதாக உறுதி கூறினார்.
அவரது வேண்டுகோளை ஏற்றுக்கொண்ட பிகாஸோ அப்படியே செய்தார்.
“எவ்வளவு பணம்?” என்று அந்தப் பெண்மணி கேட்க பத்தாயிரம் டாலர் தாருங்கள் என்றார் பிகாஸோ.
விக்கித்துப் போன அந்தப் பெண்மணி, “அதை நீங்கள் முடிக்க ஆன நேரம் முப்பது விநாடிகள் தானே” என்று கேட்டார்.
“இல்லை, இல்லை, அதற்கு எனக்கு நாற்பது வருடங்கள் ஆயின” என்று பதில் சொன்னார் பிகாஸோ.

A poet has sung
“The pathway of love is the ordeal of fire,
The shrinkers turn away from it”
The pathway of ahimsa, that is of love, one has to tread all alone.
But the question may very legitimately be put to me: Would I apply to human beings the principle I have enunciated in connection with the calf? Would I like it to be applied in my own case? My reply is Yes; the same law holds good in both the cases. The law of
Yathaa Pinde, thathaa Brahmaande (as with one, so with all) admits of no exceptions, or the killing of the cow was wrong and violent. In practice however we do not cut short the sufferings of our ailing dear ones by death because aa a rule we have aways means at our disposal to help them and because they have the capacity to think and decide for themselves. But suppose in the case of an ailing friend I am unable to render any aid whatever and recovery is out of the question and the patient is lying in an unconscious state in the throes of fearful agony then I would not see any himsa (violence) in putting an end to his suffering by death.
Doctor’s Knife and Murderer’s Knife
Just as a surgeon does not commit himsa but practises the purest ahimsa when he wields his knife on his patient’s body for the latter’s benefit, similarly one may find it necessary under certain imperative circumstances to go a step further and sever life from the body in the interest of the sufferer. It may be objected that whereas the surgeon performs his operation to save the life of the patient, in other case we do just the reverse. But on a deeper analysis it will be found that the ultimate object sought to be served in both the cases is the same, viz. to relieve the suffering soul within from pain. In the one case you do it by severing the diseased portion from the body, in the other you do it by severing from the soul the body that has become an instrument of torture to it. In either case it is the relief of the soul within from pain that is aimed at, the body without the life within being incapable of feeling either pleasure or pain. Other circumstances can be imagined in which not to kill would spell himsa, while killing would be ahimsa. Suppose for instance that I find my daughter – whose wish at the moment I have no means of ascertaining – is threatened with violation and there is no way by which I can save her, then it would be the purest form of ahimsa on my part to put an end to her life and surrender myself to the fury of the incensed ruffian.
But the trouble with our votaries of ahimsa is that they have made of ahimsa a blind fetish and put the greatest obstacle in the way of the spread of true ahimsa in our midst.

To conclude then, to cause pain or wish ill to or to take the life of any living being out of anger or a selfish intent is himsa. On the other hand, after a calm and a clear judgement to kill or cause pain to a living being with a view to its spiritual or physical benefit from a pure, selfless intent may be the purest form of ahimsa. Each such case must be judged individually, on its own merits. The final test as to its violence or non violence is after all the intent underlying the act.

ஒரு பெண்ணுக்கு கண்கள் ஏழு, முலை ஆறு, காது ஐந்து, நெற்றி நான்கு! – புலவர் கண்ட பெண்!
ச.நாகராஜன்
மதுரகவிராயர் என்ற ஒரு புலவர் தமிழின் பால் மிக்க பற்று கொண்டவர். இனிய தமிழ்ப் பாடல்களை அவ்வப்பொழுது சமயத்திற்கேற்றபடி உடனே புனைவார்.
அவருக்கு பிரம்பூர் ஆனந்தரங்கம் பிள்ளை என்பவர் பொருள் உதவி கொடுத்து ஆதரித்து வந்தார்.
ஒரு நாள் அவரைப் பார்த்த புலவர் கூறினார் : கர்ண ப்ரபுவே! ஆனந்த ரங்க மகிபாலா! உனது பிரம்பூரில் ஒரு பெண்ணைப் பார்த்தேன். அவளுக்குக் கண்கள் ஏழு, முலைகள் ஆறு, காதுகள் ஐந்து, நெற்றி நான்கு என்றார்.
ஆனந்தரங்கம் பிள்ளை அசந்து போனார். பாடலின் பொருளைக் கண்டுபிடித்துப் புலவருக்குப் பரிசுகள் தந்தார்.
திருவேங்கடமளித்த கன்னா – திருவேங்கடம் என்ற வள்ளல் ஈன்றெடுத்த கர்ணனே
பேர் படைத்த – எங்கும் பிரபலமாக உள்ள
ஆனந்தரங்க மகிபாலா – ஆனந்தரங்க பூபாலனே
நின் பிரம்பூர் நாட்டில் – உனது பிரம்பூர் நாட்டில்
நேரிழைக்கு – ஒரு பெண்ணுக்கு
விழி ஏழு – ஏழு கண்கள் உள்ளன
முலை ஆறு – மார்பகங்கள் ஆறு உள்ளன
காது ஐந்து – ஐந்து காதுகள் உள்ளன

நேரிழை என்பதை பன்னிரெண்டு ராசிகளில் ஒன்றாக அமையும் கன்னி ராசி என்று பொருள் கொள்ள வேண்டும். ஒரு அழகியைக் கண்டேன் என்று பொருள்.
நேரிழைக்கு ஏழு கண்கள் என்பது ராசிகள் பன்னிரெண்டில் கன்னி ராசிக்கு ஏழாவது ராசியாக அமையும் மீன ராசி என்று எடுத்துக் கொண்டு அவள் கண்கள் கெண்டை மீன் போல உள்ளன என்று பொருள் கொள்ள வேண்டும்.
அடுத்து முலை ஆறு என்பது ராசிகள் பன்னிரெண்டில் கன்னி ராசிக்கு ஆறாவது ராசியாக அமையும் கும்ப ராசி என்று எடுத்துக் கொண்டு அவளது திரண்ட மார்பகங்கள் குடம் போல அழகுற அமைந்துள்ளன என்று பொருள் கொள்ள வேண்டும்.
அடுத்து காதுகள் ஐந்து என்பது ராசிகள் பன்னிரெண்டில் கன்னி ராசிக்கு ஐந்தாவது ராசியாக அமையும் மகர ராசியை எடுத்துக் கொண்டு அவள் அழகிய மகர குண்டலங்களை காதில் அணிந்துள்ளாள் என்று பொருள் கொள்ள வேண்டும்.
அடுத்து நெற்றி நான்கு என்பதை ராசிகள் பன்னிரெண்டில் கன்னி ராசிக்கு நான்காவது ராசியாக அமையும் தநுசு என்று எடுத்துக் கொண்டு அவள் நெற்றி வில் போல அமைந்துள்ளது என்று எடுத்துக் கொள்ள வேண்டும்.
வில் போன்ற நுதல், மகர குண்டலங்கள் அணிந்த காது, குடம் போன்ற மார்பகம், கெண்டை மீன் போன்ற கண்கள் உண்ட பேரழகியை உன் பிரம்பூர் நாட்டில் கண்டேன் என்கிறார் புலவர்.
ஆனந்தரங்கம் பிள்ளைக்கும் மகிழ்ச்சி, அவரிடமிருந்து பரிசு பெற்ற மதுரகவிராயருக்கும் மகிழ்ச்சி, ஒரு புதிர்ப் பாடல் கிடைத்ததில் நமக்கும் மகிழ்ச்சி! மகிழ்ச்சியோ மகிழ்ச்சி தமிழின்பத்தில்!!

It has a deep significance the basis for my wish is the third mantra from Isopanishad, which, literally rendered, means that a man should desire to live for 100 years while serving with detachment. One commentary says that 100 really means 125.

Under the strange heading I read a newspaper cutting sent by a correspondent to the effect that a temple has been erected where my image is worshipped. This I consider a gross form of idolatry the person who erected the temple has wasted his resources by misusing them, the villagers who are drawn there are misled and I am insulted in that the whole of my life has been caricatured in that temple.

As for the Upanayanam ceremony, though I have discarded it myself, it has, there is no doubt, a deep meaning. The sacred thread is a sign of new birth, a regeneration. My Rama, the Rama of our prayers is not the historical Rama, the son of Dasaratha, the king of Ayodhya. He is the eternal, the unborn, the one without a second. Him alone I worship. His aid alone I seek and so should you. He belongs equally to all. I, therefore see no reason why a Mussulman or anybody should object to taking His name. but he is in no way bound to recognise God as Ramanama. He may utter to himself Allah or Khuda so as not to mar the harmony of the sound.

Dusserah was the celebration of Ram’s victory over Ravana but his victory was not achieved by violence. When Vibhishana asked Sri Ramachandra how unarmed, unshod, without any armour, he is going to defeat the heavily armed and mighty Ravana with his chariots, Rama’s reply was that it was faith and purity that were going to win the battle.
