பதிப்புகள் பல விதம்; ஒவ்வொன்றும் ஒரு விதம்!

 

மஹாகவி பாரதியார் போன்ற ஒரு பெரும் கவிஞனை காலம் எப்போதோ ஒரு முறை தான் தோற்றுவிக்கிறது

வாழ்ந்த காலத்தில் அவரைக் கொண்டாடாமல், அவரைச் சற்றே வறுமையில் வாட விட்டு விட்டது தமிழ்ச் சமுதாயம்.

 

ஆனால் இப்போது அவரது பெருமை நன்கு புரிந்து விட்ட நிலையில் காலத்தை வென்ற கவிஞன் என்று அவன் போற்றப்படும் நிலையில் அவனுக்குத் தமிழர்கள் சிலர் இழைக்கும் கொடுமைக்கும் துரோகத்திற்கும் ஒரு முற்றுப் புள்ளி வைக்கப்பட்டே ஆக வேண்டும்.

 

மஹாகவிக்கு துரோகமா என்று விழிகளில் வியப்பைத் தேக்க வேண்டாம்.

அவர் நமக்கு விட்டுச் சென்ற படைப்புகளை உள்ளது உள்ளபடி வெளியிடாமல் தங்களின் ‘கெட்ட’ நோக்கத்திற்கு இசைந்த வகையில் வெளியிடுவதைத் தான் இங்கு துரோகம் என்று குறிப்பிடுகிறோம்.

 

அறியாமல் செய்தாலும் பிழை பிழை தான்! ஆகவே பாரதி ஆர்வலர்கள் இந்தப் பதிப்பாளர்கள் குறித்து ஜாக்கிரதையாக இருக்க வேண்டும். நல்ல பதிப்பையே தேடிப் பிடித்து வாங்க வேண்டும். சரியான தலைப்புகள், சரியான பாடம் தெரிந்த போது தனது பிரதியில் அதை மாற்றிக் கொள்ள வேண்டும்.

 

மனம் போன படி மாற்றலாமா?

 

பல்வேறு வித நோக்கங்கள்! அதற்கு பலி மஹாகவி! அது தான் வருத்தமாய் இருக்கிறது.

முதலில் எழுத்துக்களை மாற்றி வெளியிடுதல் தவறல்லவா. ஷ, ஸ, ஹ, ஜ போன்ற எழுத்துக்களைக் கையாளுவதில் அவருக்குத் தடை இருந்ததே இல்லை. ஸ்வ சரிதை என்பதை பல பதிப்புகள் சுய சரிதை என்று மாற்றி வெளியிடுவதைப் பார்க்கலாம்.

 

 

எழுத்துச் சீர்திருத்தம் பற்றிய அவரது தீர்க்கமான சிந்தனை பற்றிய   அருமையான சம்பவங்கள் உண்டு, (அவற்றை எனது தனிக் கட்டுரையில் காணலாம்)

ஆகவே அவர் எழுதிய எழுத்துக்களை அப்படியே அவரது படைப்புகளில், கதை, கவிதை, கட்டுரையில் வெளியிட வேண்டும்.

அடுத்து தலைப்புகளை மாற்றுதல்.

 

ஶ்ரீ கிருஷ்ணன் மீது ஸ்துதி என்பது அவர் கொடுத்த தலைப்பு, கண்ணனை வேண்டுதல் என்பது புதிய தலைப்பு. எளிமைப் படுத்துகிறார்களாம்! மனம் போன படி தலைப்பு, வார்த்தைகளை ‘எளிமைப் படுத்த’ இவர்கள் யார்?” ஸ்வ சரிதை என்பது 1948ஆம் ஆண்டு பாரதி பிரசுராலயம் கொடுத்திருக்கும் தலைப்பு. சிலர் இதை சுயசரிதம் என்றும் கனவு என்றும் தலைப்பு கொடுத்து பிரசுரிக்கின்றனர்.

 

கவிஞனின் உள்ளத்தைத் தெரிவிக்கும் தலைப்புகளையே மாற்றலாமா?

அடுத்து மஹாகவி ராகம், ஸ்வரக் குறிப்புகளைத் தன் பாடல்களுக்குத் தந்துள்ளார். அதை விடுத்து பாடல்களைப் பதிப்பது இன்னுமொரு தவறு!

வார்த்தைகளையே மாற்றுவது அல்லது மனம் போன படி ‘தமிழ்ப் படுத்துவது’, சில வரிகளை மறைப்பது அல்லது மாற்றுவது என்று பாரதியார் பல ‘தமிழர்களிடம்’ படாத பாடு படுகிறார்.

 

சீர் பிரித்து பிரசுரிப்பது ஒரு வழக்கமாக ஆகி விட்டது இப்போது; மர்ரே கம்பெனியின் கம்ப ராமாயணப் பதிப்பின் நேர்த்தியைக் கண்டோர் “தாமும் அதுவாகப் பாவித்து” பாரதியாரை “சீர் பிரிக்கிறார்கள்”! இதிலும் பல விதம்!!

 

பரலி சு.நெல்லையப்பர் ஆங்கிலேய அதிகாரிகள் பாரதியாரின் பாட்டுக்களை தடை செய்து விடுவார்கள் என்ற நோக்கத்துடன் நாட்டுப் பாட்டு என்ற நூல் தலைப்பில் அவரது கவிதைகளை வெளியிட்டார்; பரப்பினார். இது புரிந்து கொள்ளக் கூடிய ஒன்று. ஆனால் சுய லாபங்களுக்காக அவரை மாற்றுவது தான் வேடிக்கை!

 

 

தமிழினம் காப்பதாக ‘தம் இனம்’ காப்போர்!

 

சில ‘இஸம்’களிடம் அவர் மாட்டிக் கொண்ட விந்தையையும் பல பதிப்புகளில் பார்க்கிறோம். கம்யூனிஸ்டுகளின் பாரதி ஒரு விதம்! திராவிட– ஆரியம் என்ற பிரிவினைக் கொள்கை கொண்டோரின் பாரதி இன்னொரு விதம்! பார்ப்பன எதிரிகள் என்று தம்மை பகிரங்கமாகச் சொல்லி கொள்வொர் பாரதியைத் துணைக்கு அழைத்து அவருக்கு ‘ட்ரீட்மெண்ட்’ கொடுப்பது இன்னொரு விதம்!

இத்தனைக்கும் மீறிய மகாகவி அவர். அவரை உள்ளபடி தேடிக் கண்டு பிடிப்பது அவர் மறைந்த நூறு ஆண்டுகளுக்குள்ளேயே மிகவும் சிரமமான காரியமாக ஆகி விட்டது.

 

1936ஆம் ஆண்டு ஐந்தாம் பதிப்பாக தேசீய கீதங்கள் என்று தலைப்பிட்ட நூலை பாரதி பிரசுராலயம்,திருவல்லிக்கேணி, சென்னை வெளியிட்டுள்ளது. இந்த நூலைப் பார்த்து இன்றுள்ள பலரது பதிப்புகளையும் பார்க்கும் போது வேதனை தான் பிறக்கிறது. முதலில் தமிழை இப்படிப்பட்ட வக்கிரம் பிடித்தவர்களிடமிருந்து காக்க வேண்டும்.

 

தமிழினம் காப்போம், தமிழைக் காப்போம் என்ற கோஷத்தை முன் வைத்து ‘தம் இனத்தை மட்டும்’ – வாரிசுகளைக் காக்கும் இவர்களை இனம் கண்டு இவர்களிடமிருந்து தமிழர்கள் முதலில் தம்மைக் காத்துக் கொள்ள வேண்டும், இல்லையா?!

 

பாரதியாரைத் தம் பக்கம் தவறாகத் துணைக்கு இழுப்பவர்கள் பாரதியாருக்கு மரியாதை செய்பவர்களா அல்லது துரோகிகளா?

 

சிந்திப்போம்! பாரதியாரைக் காப்போம்!!

We always read about bad husbands beating their wives. But in all parts of the world there are bad wives who torture their husbands as well. We know the suffering of Socrates at the hands of his wife. His famous quote is: if you want to become a philosopher, marry a bad woman.” That was a true story. Here is a funny ghost and a bad wife story from Indian villagers.

In a village there was a poor Brahmin who was beaten by his wife every day. He also accepted the torture like a ritual. One day he got fed up with his wife’s treatment and decided to go out for ten days. He told his wife, “Look, My darling! I have an important business in the neighbour town. I am leaving today. I will be back after ten days”. Immediately she told him, “Every day I used to beat you with broomstick asking for money. Now who do I beat with the broomstick. I can’t eat without doing that.”

He told her, “Don’t worry about it. I have already trained the tamarind tree in the back garden. It will take all your beatings. You can do it without any hesitation.”

She also did it for ten days. The ghost that occupied the tamarind tree was suffering for ten days. The Brahmin returned after ten days and she took him to the Tamarind tree and showed what she did for ten days. As soon as she left the place, the ghost in the tree called the Brahmin and told him that he could help him to get out of poverty and his wife’s cruelty. It told him that it would go to the palace and possess the king’s wife. It promised him to leave her only when he came and do some exorcism. The Brahmin also agreed to it.

When the queen was possessed with the ghost the king called the famous exorcists in the country and in spite of that the ghost did not leave her. Then the Brahmin approached the king and told him that he could easily drive away the ghost. As soon as the ghost saw the Brahmin, it left the queen according to the original plan. The king amply rewarded the Brahmin. He became very rich overnight. But the ghost warned the Brahmin that he should not help anyone this way any more.

After leaving the queen the ghost went and took over the control of minister’s wife. Immediately the king sent a word for the Brahmin. In spite of the warning of the ghost, he boldly went to cure the minister’s wife. The ghost reminded him of its warning. But the clever Brahmin told that he was not ready to do that job. But his wife only drove him out of the house to do the job. The moment the Brahmin told about his wife, the ghost started shivering and shaking. It asked the Brahmin where his wife was. The Brahmin told the ghost that she was just near the door of the minister’s house. The ghost ran away in a fraction of a second. Once again the king gave him more money and provided him security. His wife could not beat him any more!

இந்த நூல் பிரிட்டிஷ் மியூசியத்தில் 1911- ஆம் ஆண்டில் சேர்க்கப்பட்டதாக கடைசி பக்கத்தில் முத்திரை இருப்பதால் அதற்கு முன்பு பதிப்பிக்கப்பட்டிருக்க வேண்டும். இப்பொழுது லண்டன் பிரிட்டிஷ் லைப்ப்ரரியில் உள்ளது.

Indians have been passing their age old wisdom through proverbs, stories and golden sayings (Subhasitas). The villagers who go to field in the morning and return during sun set after a daylong hard work never had time to go to school and learn. But they learnt a lot of things from stories told by their grandmas and grandpas when they were children.  Even when they were working in the fields they exchanged such stories and proverbs in their conversations. That is how we have developed the largest story collection in the world (Katha Sarit Sagara), 20,000 Tamil proverbs and 20000 Sanskrit Subhasitas (Golden sayings).

Here is one more story to show how people learn some truths by the hard way:

There was wealthy villager in a village. He worked hard all through his life in his filed which is vast covering acres of land. He earned a lot of money through his successful farming. But his eight lazy sons were spending money in gambling. They did not go to the fields at all. They competed with one another in wasting father’s money. Their father tried all the ways to teach them good things, but failed in his attempts. When he was 85 year old and in his death bed, he called all is children to tell them about his will. Everyone was eager to know what he has written in his will and how much each one would get.

But he told them, “Look, my sons, I am not going to tell how much each one would get. But I will tell you a secret. I have buried all my treasures in various places in our vast land. It is definitely more than eight places. So whoever digs the land and gets it, it is his own. So the more places you dig, more you would get. But there is one condition. If you all respect me, don’t take it before my death”.

Every one of his sons was eagerly waiting for the farmer’s death. And the day came. The farmer died and after cremating his body all his sons ran to the fields with axe and other equipment’s and started vigorous digging. Several days passed. No one got anything. And the rainy season came. It started raining heavily making the fields muddy. Then his sons met together and decided to cultivate crops. They divided the land among themselves and did grow the same crops like their father. Because of vigorous digging and timely rain they had a very good harvest. They made big money. Then they realised what his father meant by “burying treasure under the earth.”

பாரதி புதையல் மூன்றாம் தொகுதி

ரா.அ.பத்மநாபனின் தமிழ்த் தொண்டு

மிக மிக அருமையான இந்த நூலை பாரதி பக்தர் ரா.அ.பத்மநாபன் தொகுத்து 1975ஆம் ஆண்டு பாரதி தினத்தன்று வெளியிட்டிருக்கிறார். இது அமுதநிலையம் பிரைவேட் லிமிடட்டின் 248வது நூல். 321 பக்கங்கள் கொண்ட இந்த நூலின் அன்றைய விலை ரூ 12.

பதிப்புரையில் ரா.அ.பத்மநாபன் கூறுவது:- “பாரதியாரின் எழுத்துகளில் இதுவரை வெளியாகாதவை அல்லது எப்போதோ பத்திரிகைகளில் வெளி வந்து மறைந்து கிடப்பவை – இவற்றைத் தேடித் திரட்டி, நூல் வடிவில் தொகுத்துத் தருவதே “பாரதி புதையல் நூல் வரிசையின் நோக்கமாகும். இவ்வரிசையில் இது மூன்றாவது தொகுதியாகும். முதல் தொகுதி 1958-இலும் இரண்டாம் தொகுதி 1959-இலும் வெளியாயின.”

தமிழ் மக்களுக்கு இதை விடச் சிறந்த சேவையை எப்படிச் செய்ய முடியும். ரா.அ.பத்மநாபனுக்கு தமிழ் உலகம் என்றும் கடமைப்பட்டிருக்கிறது.பாரதியின் புகழ் பரப்பும் பணியே இவரது வாழ்க்கைப் பணி.

இந்த நூலில் பாரதியாரின் வெளியிடப்படாத கவிதைகள் நான்கும், கட்டுரைகள் இருபத்தி ஒன்பதும் உள்ளன. இத்துடன் மிக முக்கியமான தொகுப்பாக பாரதியாரைப் பற்றி நன்கு அறிந்தவர்களும் உடன் பழகியவர்களும் எழுதிய 26 கட்டுரைகள் தொகுக்கப்பட்டுள்ளன. இது ஒரு அரிய கஷ்டமான காரியம். எங்கெங்கோ எப்போதோ பிரசுரிக்கப்பட்டவற்றை ஒரே நூலில் படிக்க முடிகிறது.

பல்வேறு சுவையான சம்பவங்கள். சம்பவங்களில் உடன் இருந்தோர் அதை விவரிக்க, அவற்றைப் படிக்கும் போது அதிகாரபூர்வமாக அவற்றை உணர முடிகிறது.

சோழனும் கம்பனும்

மாமா பாரதியார் என்று வ.உ.சி எழுதிய கட்டுரையில் தன்னைச் சோழனாகவும் பாரதியாரைக் கம்பனாகவும் நினைக்க வைத்த சந்திப்பை உளமுருக விவரிக்கிறார். மாஜினியின் சங்கத்தில் அங்கத்தினராகச் சேர்ந்தோர் செய்து வந்த விசுவாசப் பிரமாணச் செய்யுளை பாரதியார் ஆங்கிலத்தில் படித்துக் காட்ட, வியப்புற்ற வ.உ.சி அதைத் தமிழ்ப்பாட்டாகத் தர வேண்டினார். உடனே அதே இடத்தில் கவிதை ஒன்று உருவானது. அது தான் ‘பேரருட் கடவுள் திருவடியாணை’ என்று தொடங்கும் கவிதை.

 

நாராயண ஐயங்காரின் கட்டுரைகள்

சம்ஸ்கிருதத்திலும் தமிழிலும் கடை கண்ட நிபுணரான பண்டிட் எஸ்.நாராயண ஐயங்கார் பாரதியாரின் நண்பர். அவர் 9-9-1956, 16-9-1956 தினமணி சுடர் இதழ்களில் எழுதிய கட்டுரைகள் காசியிலிருந்து பாரதியாருடனான நாராயண ஐயங்காரின் நட்பை விளக்குகிறது.

கங்கைக் கரையில் அமர்ந்து ஷெல்லியின் பாடல்களைப் படித்து அர்த்தம் சொல்வார் பாரதியார். ஒரு சமயம் சரஸ்வதி பூஜையன்று பெண் கல்வி வேண்டுமென்பது பற்றி அவர் பேச அந்தக் கூட்டத்திற்கு தலைமை வகித்த ஶ்ரீ சீதாராம சாஸ்திரிகள் அதை ஏற்க மறுக்க பாரதியாரோ இன்னும் ஆணித்தரமாகத் தன் கருத்தை வலியுறுத்தினார். காசியில் இருந்த போது அவருக்கு வயது 18. நாராயண ஐயங்காருக்கு வயது 16. ஏராளமான சுவையான சம்பவங்களை விவரிக்கிறார் நாராயண ஐயங்கார்.

வ.வே.சு. ஐயரும் பாரதியாரும்

புதுவையில் இந்தியா வெளியிடும் பொறுப்பை ஏற்றவர் ,மண்டயம் ஶ்ரீநிவாஸாச்சாரியார். இவர் பாரதியாரின் புதுவை வாழ்க்கையில் உடன் இருந்தவர். வ.வே.சு ஐயரையும் பாரதியாரையும் ஒப்பிட்டு இவர் 1942 மார்ச் கலைமகள் இதழில் எழுதிய கட்டுரை நூலில் இடம் பெற்றுள்ளது. ஶ்ரீ அரவிந்தர் ரிக்வேதம் படிக்கும் போது அவரோடு பாரதியாரும் ரிக் வேதம் படித்தார்.ஆர்யா என்ற அரவிந்தரின் மாதப் பத்திரிகைக்கு பாரதியார் விஷயதானம் செய்து வந்தார். சதுரங்கம் ஆடும் போது ஏப்போதும் ஐயருக்கு எதிர்க் கட்சியில் பாரதியார் இருப்பார். எப்போதும் ஐயர் தான் ஜெயிப்பார். பாரதியாருக்கு ரோஷம் பிறந்து விடும்.மறுபடியும் ஐயரை ஆடச் சொல்லி ஓரிரு முறை தான் ஜயித்த பின் தான் எழுந்திருப்பார்.

 

குவளை கிருஷ்ணமாச்சாரியாரின் அரிய கட்டுரைகள்

பாரதியாரை யானையிடமிருந்து காப்பாற்றிய குவளை கிருஷ்ணமாச்சாரியார் பல சுவையான சம்பவங்களை விவரமாக எழுதியுள்ளார். 1938இல் அவர் ஹிந்துஸ்தான் வாரப் பதிப்பில் எழுதிய கட்டுரை இது.பன்னிரெண்டு பேர் சேர்ந்து நாலாயிரம் பாடினார்களா, பார் நான் ஒருவனே ஆறாயிரம் பாடுகிறேன் என்று பாரதியார் எழுத ஆரம்பித்த பாடல்கள் பல்வேறு காரணங்களால் தடைப்பட்டு அறுபத்தாறு பாடல்களுடன் நின்றது.

பாரதியாருக்கு இறந்து போன அவரது தந்தை உருவத்தையும் தாய் உருவத்தையும் காண்பித்த கோவிந்தசாமி என்னும் சித்தரைப் பற்றி குவளை கிருஷ்ணமாச்சாரியார் 1939 கலைமகள் எழுதிய சுவாரசியமான கட்டுரையும் இதில் இடம் பெறுகிறது.

இப்படி முக்கியமானவர்களின் எழுத்துக்களின் தொகுப்பைப் படிக்கும் போது பாரதி பக்தர்கள் பரவசமடைவதில் வியப்பே இல்லை.

பாரதியாரைக் கற்கவும் புரிந்து கொள்ளவும் விரும்புவோர் உடனடியாகப் படிக்க வேண்டிய நூல் இது.

எழுதிய அனைவரும் தமிழ் உலகிற்கு ஒரு அரிய தொண்டைச் செய்துள்ளனர் என்றால் அது மிகையாகாது.

A Sadhu (saint) living in a forest wanted some money for repairs to be done to his hut. He therefore went to the nearby kingdom so as to request the king to provide him with necessary funds. He entered the palace and enquired where the king was so that he could see him. The minister in charge of the palace asked him to sit for a while in the waiting room as the king was at prayers. The King’s Prayer room happened to be in the adjoining the one in which the sadhu sat. Now the sadhu could distinctly hear the king praying,

”Oh Lord of the universe, I appeal to You to grant me more wealth and prosperity than what I have now. Deign to shower your grace on me so that this prayer of mine be fulfilled.”

On hearing this, the sadhu suddenly got up and started to go. The prayer being over, the king came to the waiting room just at the moment the sadhu was leaving .The king asked the sadhu why he came and what he wanted.

The Sadhu replied, “I came to request you for some money for reconstructing my small hut in the forest. But I heard your pray begging to God for more wealth and more prosperity. I find you are a beggar like myself. So I felt no purpose will be served by asking for anything from a beggar like myself. I prefer on the other hand to directly approach the same Supreme God to whom you appeal for help”.

So saying the sadhu left.

காஷ்மீரில் ஒரு பெரிய வணிகர் இருந்தார். அவர் ஆண்டுதோறும் பாரசீகத்துக்குச் சென்று வணிகம் செய்து வந்தார். (பாரசீகத்தின் தற்போதைய பெயர் ஈரான்). இந்திய சரக்குகளை அங்கே விற்றுவிட்டு ஈரானிய சரக்குகளைக் காஷ்மீருக்குக் கொண்டுவந்து விற்பது அவரது வழக்கம். ஒரு முறை பாரசீகத்தில் ஒரு அழகான கிளியைப் பார்த்தார். அது மனிதர்களைப் போலவே பேசுவது கண்டு வியப்படைந்தார். உடனே அந்தக் கிளியை ஒரு விலை பேசி வாங்கிவிட்டார்.

காஷ்மீருக்குத் திரும்பிவந்தவுடன் அழகான, பெரிய கூண்டு செய்து அதற்கு ராஜ உபசாரம் செய்துவந்தார். அவரது குடும்பத்தினரும் அக்கிளியைப் போற்றி வளர்த்தனர். தங்கக் கூண்டு ஆனாலும், கூண்டு என்பது சிறைவாசம்தானே! இருந்த போதிலும் கிளி அழகாகப் பேசி அவர்களை மகிழ்வித்து வந்தது.

ஒரு குறிப்பிட்ட ஆண்டில் காஷ்மீர் வணிகருக்கு உலல்நலம் சரியில்லை. உடனே அந்தரங்கக் காரியதரிசியை அழைத்து, “இந்த ஆண்டு நீ போய் பாரசீகத்திலிருந்து சரக்குகளை வாங்கி வா; எனக்கு உடம்பு சரியில்லை” என்றார். எஜமானர் போட்ட உத்தரவை சிரம் மேல் தாங்கி அவரும் பாரசீகத்துக்குப் புறப்படத் தயாரானார்.

எல்லோர் அன்புக்கும் பாத்திரமான கிளி, அவரை அழைத்து, “அன்பரே. நீர் பாரசீகத்துக்குச் செல்லும்போது எனக்கு ஒரு உதவி செய்ய வேண்டும். இங்கு எனக்கு ராஜபோக உபசாரம் கிடைத்தாலும் என் சொந்தக்காரர்களைப் பார்க்காமல் எனக்கு வருத்தமாக இருக்கிறது. அவர்களை நீங்கள் சந்தித்து நான் குசலம் (நலம்) விசாரித்ததாகக் கூறுங்கள். என் சொந்தக்கார கிளிகள் நீர் செல்லும் நகருக்குக் கிழக்கேயுள்ள தோட்டத்தில்தான் வசிக்கின்றன. மிகப் பெரிய கூட்டம் என்பதால் அந்தக் கிளிகளை நீவீர் எளிதில் இனம் காண முடியும். இடர்ப்பாடு ஏதும் இராது “ என்றது. கடைசியாக நான் அவர்களைப் பார்க்க வேண்டும். அதற்கு என்ன வழி என்றும் ஒரு கேள்வியைக் கேளும்; அவர்கள் சொல்லும் பதிலை என்னிடம் மறவாது செப்பும்” என்றும் கிளி பகன்றது. காரியதரிசியும் அதற்கு ஒப்புக்கொண்டார்.

வணிகரின் செயலர் பாரசீகத்துக்குச் சென்று வணிகப் பணிகளை செவ்வனே செய்து முடித்தார். திடீரென காஷ்மீரிலுள்ள கிளி சொன்ன விஷயம் நினைவுக்கு வரவே நகருக்கு வெளியேயுள்ள தோட்டத்துச் சென்றார். அந்தக்கிளி சொன்னது போலவே எளிதில் சொந்தக் கார கிளிக்கூட்டத்தைக் கண்டு பிடித்தார். அவர்களுடைய சொந்தக்கார கிளி காஷ்மீரில் அடைபட்டிருப்பதையும் அது “நலம்தானா?” என்று வினவியதையும் செப்பிய பின்னர், ”ஒரு முக்கிய விஷயம் காஷ்மீர் கிளி உங்களை மீண்டும் பார்க்கவேண்டுமாம். நீங்கள்தான் வழி சொல்லவேண்டுமாம்” என்றார். அந்தக் கிளிகளோ கீச்சுக் கீச்சு என்று ஒலி எழுப்பியனவே அன்றி பதில் இறுக்கவில்ல. அவரும் மூன்று நான்கு முறை கேட்டுப் பார்த்தார். பலனில்லை. அவர் புறப்படும் முன் ஒரே ஒரு கிளி மட்டும்—வயதான கிளி—இறக்கையெல்லாம் பாதி இழந்துவிட்ட கிளி- தொப்பென்று மரத்திலிருந்து கீழே விழுந்தது. செத்துப்போன கிளி போல சிறகெல்லாம் விரிந்து, மல்லாந்து கிடந்தது. அதைப் பார்த்த செயலர், “ஐயோ பாவம்; தள்ளாத வயது போலும்” என்று சொல்லிக் கொண்டே வெளியேறினார்.

காஷ்மீருக்குத் திரும்பிவந்தவுடன் , எஜமானரிடம் – முதலாளியிடம் – வணிக விஷயங்களை ஒப்புவித்தார். அவருக்கும் மிக்க மகிழ்ச்சி. இதைப் பார்த்துக் கொண்டிருந்த கிளி மெதுவாக அவரை அழைத்து “நான் சொன்ன விஷயம் என்னவாயிற்று?” என்று கேட்டது. அவரும் நடந்ததை நடந்தபடியே சொல்லிவிட்டு கடைசியில் ஒரு கிளி மரத்திலிருந்து கீழே விழுந்து இறந்ததையும் கூறினார். இதைக் கேட்டுக்கொண்டே இருந்த கிளி திடீரென கூண்டின் உட்புறத்தில் நிற்கும் மரக்குச்சியில் இருந்து விழுந்தது. அது சிறகை விரித்து மல்லாந்து கிடந்ததைப் பார்த்துவிட்டு எஜமானரிடம் கிளி திடீரென்று இறந்துவிட்டது என்றார். அவரும் அதன் பரிதாபச் சாவைப் பார்த்துவிட்டு வேலைக்கரனைக் கூப்பிட்டு, ஊருக்கு வெளியேயுள்ள தோட்டத்தில் உரிய மரியாதையுடன் அடக்கம் செய்யச் சொன்னார்.

உடனே வேலைக்கரன் அந்தக் கிளியை மிகவும் மரியாதையுடன் எடுத்துக்கொண்டு ஊருக்கு வெளியே ஒரு இலைதழை படுக்கை செய்து அதன்மீது வைத்துவிட்டு, ஒரு குழிதோண்டத் துவங்கினான். இதுவரை இறந்ததுபோல பாவனை செய்த கிளி சிறகடித்துப் பறந்தோடிப் போய்விட்டது!!!

Here is a story on Punctuality, Loyalty and Reliability!

A king had a slave serving him with all faith and love. In fact the slave adored his master and was ever ready to please him in all manner of ways. The king appreciated his lovable nature and made him a minister in his court. He gradually raised him to the position of his Prime Minister. Seeing his rise to the biggest position under the king, the other ministers, who had served long in the state, becoming envious of the slave, grumbled and complained. All of them joined together and went to the king in deputation with the complaint. The king heard them patiently and said, “Exactly a week hence all ministers including the prime minister should meet me in the green rest house five miles away from the city, at four pm sharp. He who would meet me first would be considered to have real love and regard for me.

Soon after, he sent for the prime minister and, after telling him what he said to the ministers, asked him to build houses, camps and shamianas on both sides of the road that led to the distant garden where the ministers had to meet him as arranged. In the newly constructed camps and houses, all kinds of entertainment, shows etc. should be exhibited besides lines of shops and restaurants providing the most tempting foods and articles – the condition for meeting the king was all those who go to the garden house should do so on foot.

The day came. The prime minister along with the other ministers started on the journey. When they walked on the road leading to the place, except for the prime minister, all other ministers were tempted to see the shows, witness the entertainments, visit the restaurants, etc. as all these could be had without payment. They thought that there was plenty of time to reach the place where they were to meet the king. Leisurely, they went from one place of entertainment to the other. Time passed. The prime minister, without looking to the left or right walked straight to the garden where the meeting was fixed, reached there an hour before schedule. The other ministers reached the place half an hour late, or one hour late. Some of them failed to be there at all.

The next day, the king called all the ministers and addressed them thus,

“Now you all know why I made this slave (pointing to him) a prime minister. He is a man possessing sterling qualities for the high post. Ministers hung down their heads in shame and unanimously applauded the king for his choice of the PM.

So also, God’s devotees, when they possess genuine love and devotion for him, never think of anything or anybody other than God. They take the straight course that leads to him and are not drawn away by the attractions and temptations of worldly pleasures.
