Yesterday’s summary
We looked at fourth case, which is called Dative case in English. Here is the summary:
You add either Ukku or kku or Vukku for English “To”
Ramanukku= Ukku added with Raman (To Raman)
Marykku = kku added with Mary (To Mary)
Umaavukku= Vukku added with Umaa; This shows all AA sounding words will take Vukku
Kankalukku = Ukku added with Kangal (eyes)
Singaththukku = aththukku added with Singa/lion; This shows , all AM sounding words drop the last dotted consonant and add Aththukku
Singha+ aththukku
Suppose Mr Guna Singham comes to your house and You tell your wife to give him coffee to drink
Here it is
Guna singhaththukku kaappi Kodu
Give coffee to Guna Singham.
You don’t say Gunasungamukku.

In Tamil “ I “ becomes En என் or Enn and then take case suffix AKKU அக்கு.
In the same way You becomes UN or UNN and then take case suffix AKKU அக்கு.
எனக்கு Enakku= to me ,
உனக்கு Unakku= to you
அவனுக்கு Avanukku = to him ,
அவளுக்கு Avalukku = to her
அவர்களுக்கு Avarkalukku = to them
நமக்கு Namakku = to us (Here Naam/ WE becomes Nam and then added with Akku)
எங்களுக்கு Engalukku = to us (Naangal/ WE becomes Engal and then added with ukku)
உங்களுக்கு Ungalukku = to you (plural) என் + அக்கு = எனக்கு
உன் + அக்கு = உனக்கு To You
அவன் + உக்கு = அவனுக்கு (ன்+உ=னு ) to him
அவள் + உக்கு = அவளுக்கு (ள் + உ= ளு ) to her
அவர்கள் + உக்கு = அவர்களுக்கு (ள் + உ= ளு ) to them

Now let us look at Genitive or Possessive case.
This is Sixth Case in Tamil “of = உடைய udaiya”
In English we say Rama’s House , or House of Rama.
In Tamil we add udaiya உடைய or in இன் or athu அது
In இன் , athu அது are not used much.
Some examples
Raamanudaiya veedu ராமனுடைய வீடு Rama’s House or House of Rama raamanin veedu ராமனின் வீடு, raamanathu veedu ராமனது வீடு .
En veedu என் வீடு, ennudaiya veedu என்னுடைய வீடு , rnathu எனது My House
Un உன் , unnudaiya உன்னுடைய ,unathu உனது Your House (House= Veedu)
Nam நம் , nammudaiya நம்முடைய, Namathu நமது Our House
Engal எங்கள், Engaludaiya எங்களுடைய Emathu எமது Our House
Ungal உங்கள் , Ungaludaiya உங்களுடைய Umathu உமது Your House (Plural or respectful)
Veetin Kathavu வீட்டின் கதவு Door of the House
Manithanin Uyaram மனிதனின் உயரம் (Man’s Height)
Yaanaiyin Uyaram யானையின் உயரம் (Elephant’s House)
Paambin Visham பாம்பின் விஷம் (Poison of Snake or Snake’s poison)
Singaththinudaiya Parkal சிங்கத்துடைய பற்கள் (Lion’s Teeth or Teeth of Lion)
Singaththin Parkal சிங்கத்தின் பற்கள் (Lion’s Teeth or Teeth of Lion)
Note: Am sounded words take Aththin or Aththudaiya)
Raamanathu ராமனது Rama’s , veettathu வீட்டது of House , naattinathu நாட்டினது of the country are not common
நாடு = நாட் ட்
வீடு = வீட் ட்
oblique and then doubling
என் = என் ன்
நாட்டினது, நாட்டின், நாட்டுடைய
வீட்டினது , வீட்டின், வீட்டுடைய
என் ன் + உடைய = என்னுடைய
If there is no doubling of N , it will be எனுடைய which is wrong.
What is doubling?
N = ன் is used twice
E.g. உன் ன் = doubling
Word Meanings
வீடுveedu= house; யானை yaanai= elephant; பாம்பு paambu= snake, serpent; சிங்கம் Singham/(Simha in Sanskrit)=lion;
பல்Pal= tooth, பற்கள் Parkal= Teeth, மனிதன் Manithan= man விஷம்visham= poison, நாடுnaadu = country; கதவுkathavu= door
