Village Gods and Goddesses are found all over India. There are three types of village Gods and Goddesses:
1.Gods and Goddesses of Vedic Origin
2.Local Heroes and Heroines with Memorial Stones
3.Persons who self- sacrificed in Sati and Navakandam.
Since it is a vast subject we will look at Village Gods and Goddesses only. All such Gods and Goddesses have Sanskrit names such as Sastha/Ayyanar, Rakkaayee/Vedic Goddess Raka, Kaththaayee/ Kathyayani, Makamaayee /Mahaa Maayaa., Mookkaayee/Mukambhika etc
Kanchi Paramacharya (1894-1994) dispelled the wrong notion that these Gods are of local origin.
The only difference from the big temples and the shelter less, open spaced Village gods is that they are maintained by Non Brahmins. Moreover, they don’t have daily pujas or rituals. During summertime they are celebrated on a grand scale. Lot of Brahmin families hold such Gods and Goddesses as their family deities. Every year, particularly during weddings, birth of new babies they go there and give offerings.
Another difference is offering flesh and wine. This is also over blown by half baked foreigners and Dravidians. They offer meat, fish and wine because they consume it every day. Even Cigarettes, Cigars and Beedies were offered to the village Gods for the same reason.
Sati Stones (Following Parvati’s self -sacrifice in to her father’s Yaga Kundam chaste women also do that; Sati means Parvati), Nava Kandam (Cutting his own body into nine different parts as in Mahabharata) memorials are found all over India. Because Muslim invaders destroyed them in the North, we see a smaller number of monuments in North India. Unfortunately, this topic has not been dealt with on Pan Indian basis.
Kanchi Paramacharya mentioned this type of worship in his lectures. Dr R Nagaswamy, world famous archaeologist and historian, has contributed much on this topic. Local villagers raise a memorial for a hero and in course of time, it became temples. In and around Madurai we see such temples.
(author who lived in Madurai visited Peacchi Amman, Chellath Amman, Sittuk Kuruvi Kali Aaththaa temples very often in Madurai. Just before entering Meenakshi temple used to worship Muniswaran in the northern entrance, and Madurai Veeran in the Eastern entrance. He used to go to Mari Amman temple with his mother outside the town and offer silver replicas of Body parts to avoid small pox. His mother used to offer Maa Vilakku/ lighted wicks in the midst of sweet flour. This is to show that Brahmin families worship village Goddesses. Every year during summer, street aster street celebrate their Goddesses and march to Vaigai River to dissolve/immerse the Goddesses they made with clay. Very big crowd with all the music and dance march to the river bank)
Even big temples have village Gods at the entrance or in front of them. Mostly they are outside villages or towns are in the border of a town.
Each festival of such Gods has different customs. Fire Walking is one of them; offering hair, making Gruel or Sweet Pongal for distribution, taking the clay model of goddesses in procession, making temporary Urchava Murtis with clay and paint, immersion on the third day of festival, carrying Umbrellas (Kudai Eduththal) men dressing themselves like females, wearing only neem leaves to hide their private parts etc are found throughout Tamil Nadu.
Dr Nagaswamy has written one article about the references in Raurava Agama about erecting memorials for the departed heroes or saints. Brahmins used to bury the stones under the earth in their gardens.
Orthodox Hindus bury the dead saints and erect Tulsi Plant Brindhavanams for Vaishnavie saints , Adhistanam with Lingas for Saivite saints. Such Samadhis are seen from Kashmir to Kanyakumari.
After Gajabhahu visited the erection of Patni Goddess Stone for Kannaki in Kerala around 132 CE, Patni cult spread all over Ceylon/Sri Lanka. This shows creation of new gods in Hinduism.
Now Samadis of Shirdi Baba, Sathya Sai Baba, Ragavendra, Ma Ananda mayi, Dhargas of Muslim saints, Gurudwaras of departed Sikh Gurus, Maharashtra Hindu sains, Samadhis of great composers are visied by millions. They are all considered Gods and regular pujas are offered. This is to show that hero worship is not new to Hindus.
Renula Devi, Draupati temples are in several places.
Not only villages, even cities have their Goddesses according to Valmiki Ramayana, Silappadikaaram, Manimekali and several other Hindu books.
Greatest of the ancient Tamil poets, Tiru Valluvar justified it in his Kural couplet:
A man who leads an ideal life in this world
Will be ranked amongst the Gods in the Heaven
Tirukkural verse 50
வையத்துள் வாழ்வாங்கு வாழ்பவன் வான்உறையும்
தெய்வத்துள் வைக்கப் படும்.-50
There are two very important points in this couplet,
This comes under the chapter Family Life along with another couplet where Pancha Yajnam of Hindus’ daily life is described.
The second important point is God/ Father in the Heaven.
So, Valluvar emphasizes ordinary family man can become God provided he leads a virtuous life.
That is why Hindus have million Gods.

பூச்சிகளுக்கும் பறவைகளுக்கும் விலங்குகளுக்கும் எண்ணத் தெரியும் என்று சொன்னால் ஆச்சரியம் தான் ஏற்படும். ஆனால் அது உண்மை!
ஜார்ஜியா ஸ்டேட் பல்கலைக்கழகத்தில் உளவியில் பேராசிரியாகப் பணி புரியும் மைக்கேல் பெரான் (MICHEAEL BERAN, PROFESSOR OF PSHCHOLOGY, GEORGIA STATE UNIVERSITY) பெரிய ஆய்வு ஒன்றைச் செய்து பல பூச்சிகள், மெல்லிய உடல்கொண்டவை, பறவைகள், நீரிலும் நிலத்திலும் வாழும் உயிரினங்கள், விலங்குகள் ஆகியவற்றிற்கு அளவுகள் நன்கு தெரியும் என்கிறார்.
நியூமராசிடி (numerosity) என்று கூறப்படும் அளவுகள் பற்றிய அறிவு இவற்றிற்கு இருப்பது மிகவும் ஆச்சரியமாக இருக்கிறது.
உயிர் வாழத் தேவையானது உணவு. உணவை உட்கொண்டு உயிர்வாழ்வதோடு அவை தனது ஜீன்களுக்கு இந்த அறிவைக் கொண்டு செலுத்துகிறது.
தேனீக்கள் பறக்கும் போது எங்கெல்லாம் தேன் அதிகம் உள்ள மலர்களைக் காண்கிறதோ அந்த வளமான பகுதிகளை எண்ணி வைத்துக் கொள்கிறது.
கோல்டன் ஆர்ப் வீவர் ஸ்பைடர் எனப்படும் சிலந்திப்பூச்சிகள் (Nephila clavipes) தங்களது கூட்டில் எத்தனை பூச்சிகளைப் பிடித்து வைத்திருக்கிறோம் என்பதைக் கணக்கிட்டுப் பார்த்துக் கொள்கிறது.
தவளைகளில் துங்க்ரா தவளைகள் (Physalaemus pustulosus) தங்களது செக்ஸ் அழைப்புக்கு இந்த எண்களைத் துணை கொள்கிறது. ஒரு ஆண் தவளை முதலில் சக் என்கிறது. உடனே இன்னொரு ஆண் தவளை சக் என்று பதில் தருகிறது. இந்த சக் என்னும் ஒலிப் போட்டி தொடர்ந்து போய்க் கொண்டே இருக்கிறது. கடைசியில் ஒரு தவளை சக்தி இல்லாமல் சக் சொல்லாமல் நின்று விடுகிறது. அதிகமாக சக் சொல்லி, ஜெயித்த தவளை பெண் தவளையை ஈர்த்து செக்ஸில் வெல்கிறது.
பெண் சிங்கங்களை (Panthera leo) எடுத்துக் கொண்டால் எதிரியின் பலத்தை அறிந்து கொள்ள ஹோ என்று கர்ஜிக்கிறது. பதில் கர்ஜனை உடனே வரும். எத்தனை பதில் கர்ஜனைகள் வருகிறது என்பதை எண்ணிக் கொண்டு அதை எதிர்த்துத் தாக்கலாமா வேண்டாமா என்று முடிவு செய்கிறது.
2024ல் நடந்த ஒரு அதிசய ஆய்வில் பூமியில் உள்ள காக்கைகளில் உள்ள ஒரு அதிசயமான இனமான கேரியன் காக்கைகள் (Corvus corone) நினைவூட்டும் குறிப்புகளாக கா, கா என்று ஒன்று முதல் நான்கு முறை வரை கத்திக் கத்தி செய்திகளைப் பரிமாறிக் கொள்கிறது.
ஆனால் இவை அனைத்தும் மனிதனுக்கு நிகாராகாது. என்றாலும் இவைகள் எண் பற்றிய அறிவைக் கொள்ளும் ஒரு ஏ என் எஸ் எனப்படும் அப்ராக்ஸிமேட் நம்பர் சிஸ்டத்தைக் (ANS – Approximate Number System) கொண்டவையாகும்.
இதை விட ஆச்சரியகரமான சம்பவம் ஒன்று 1891-ம் ஆண்டு நிகழ்ந்தது. சாதாரண பள்ளி வாத்தியாரான வில்லியம் வான் ஆஸ்டன் என்பவர் தனது க்ளூஸ் ஹான்ஸ் என்ற குதிரைக்கு கணக்குப் போடும் திறனைக் கற்றுக் கொடுத்தார். ஒரு மேஜை மேல் கொட்டைகளை வைத்தால் எத்தனை இருக்கிறதோ அத்தனை தடவை அது தனது கால் குளம்புகளைத் தட்டிக் காட்டி எண்ணிக்கையைச் சரியாகச் சொல்லும்.
இதனால் கவரப்பட்ட எல்பர்பெல்ட் நகரில் இருந்த ஒரு நகை வியாபாரியான ஹெர் க்ரால் என்பவர் தன்னுடைய குதிரைகளுக்கும் கூட்டல், கழித்தல், பெருக்கல், வகுத்தல் ஆகியவற்றைக் கற்றுக் கொடுத்தார். அவருடைய நான்கு குதிரைகளான முகம்மது, ஜரீஃப், பெர்டோ மற்றும் ஹான்சென் வர்க்கம் மற்றும் க்யூப் ரூட்டைக் கூட போட ஆரம்பித்தன. இதில் ஆங்கில ஸ்பெல்லிங்கை வேறு அவை தெரிந்து கொண்டன. 34 என்று சொன்னால் இடது கால் குளம்பை மூன்று தடவையும் வலது கால் குளம்பை நான்கு தடவையும் அவை தட்டும்.
இது உலகில் பெரும் பரபரப்பை ஏற்படுத்தவே இது உண்மை தானா என்பதை அறிய நோபல் பரிசு பெற்ற பிரபல சிந்தனையாளரான மௌரிஸ் மேடர்லிங்க் (பிறப்பு28-8-1862 மறைவு 6-5-1949) எல்பர்பெல்ட் நகருக்கு வந்து நேரில் முகம்மதைப் பார்த்தார். குதிரை அவர் பெயரைக் குளம்புகளினால் தட்டிக் கூறி அவரை வரவேற்றது. பல
கணக்குகளை அவர் போட்டார். விடைகளைச் சரியாக குதிரை கூறியது. அதிசயித்த அவர் குதிரை கணக்குப் போடுவது உண்மை தான் என்று கூறினார். உலகமே வியந்தது.
இப்போது நவீன யுகத்தில் இது பற்றிய ஆய்வுகள் தொடர்கின்றன. நாளுக்கு நாள் வரும் சோதனை முடிவுகள் நம்மை பிரமிக்க வைக்கின்றன.

In Sangam literature we see B=V
Sabha in Rig Veda changed to Avai because in Tamil , initial letter SA is banned by Tolkappiam.
So, Tamils dropped SA and inserted vowel A+vai/bai
Thi schange is seen in Avestan language which is extinct now.
The Rig Vedic ASVA is changed to ASPA (V=P) in Avestan. We see it in all words in Bengal nowadays. Vangam is pronounced as Bengal. Vandematarm= Bandemataram
No linguist has explained this change linking Tamil, Avestan and Sanskrit.
Now the question is who directed them to change V=B or B=V.
This is a Vedic rule; Paninian rule followed all over the world. It is seen even in Inca culture and Melanesian (Pacific Ocean Islands) languages.
Unless one studies Sanskrit, no one can understand linguistics. I have already shown how letter “J” migrated from India. If we study the route of J around the world one will understand Yaaz= Jazz, Yazpaanam= Jaffna, Yesu=Jesus, Yusuf= Joseph, Yuudha= Jew. Hindus spread the culture and language around the world. Oxford and Cambridge Linguists give ridiculous reasons for this J=Y change, because they don’t know this change is in Sangam Tamil Literature.
புறநானூற்றுப் புலவர் முடி/ நாக/ ராயர் = முடி/ நாக/ ரா ஜர் (ய= ஜ) Poet name is MR NAGARAJAN.
Oldest Tamil poet in Purananuru is MUDI NAAGA RAAYAR; his real name is Mudi NaagaraaJAr. So the J = Y change is seen even in Sangam Tamil Literature. Regal= Royal are derived from Sanskrit RAJA (J=Y). that is why they say Raja= Roya/l. in my previous research paper, I have given examples from more languages.
Those who don’t know Tamil and Sanskrit can’t be linguists!
J sound is found only in ancient Sanskrit; not even in Greek; Jason of Homer is actually Esan (Shiva’s name)

இரண்டு லட்சம் மக்கள் வாழ விரும்பும் முதல் விண்வெளி தேசம் – அஸ்கார்டியா!

பூமியில் ஏராளமான நாடுகள் இருக்க முதன் முதலாக விண்வெளியில் ஒரு தேசம் உருவாகி இருக்கிறது, தெரியுமா?
அதன் பெயர் அஸ்கார்டியா! – (ASGARDIA)
அஸ்கார்டியா என்ற விண்வெளி தேசம் உருவாகிவிட்டதாக பாரிஸில் 2016 அக்டோபர் மாதம் அறிவிக்கப்பட்டது.
உடனேயே இருபது நாட்களுக்குள் இதன் குடிமக்களாக ஆவதற்கு விருப்பம் தெரிவித்து ஐந்து லட்சம் பேர்கள் விண்ணப்பித்துள்ளனர்.
இந்த விண்ணப்பங்களைப் பரிசீலித்த அஸ்கார்டியா கமிட்டி தந்தை தாய் அனுமதியின்றி விண்ணப்பித்த சிறுவர்களையும், இரண்டு முறை விண்ணப்பித்தவர்களையும் நீக்கியது. பூமியில் உள்ள இருநூறு நாடுகளிலிருந்து நன்கு சரிபார்க்கப்பட்ட பின் இரண்டு லட்சம் பேர்கள் தேர்ந்தெடுக்கப்பட்டனர்.
இவர்களுடைய பட்டியல் அஸ்கார்டியா தேசத்துக்கு அனுப்பப்பட்டுள்ளது.
அஸ்கார்டியா என்ற பெயர் ஸ்காண்டிநேவியாவைச் சேர்ந்த ஜெர்மானியக் கொள்கைகள், கடவுள்கள், தேவதைகள் உள்ளிட்ட பழைய நம்பிக்கைகளின் அடிப்படையில் உருவாக்கப்பட்ட பெயராகும், கடவுளரின் தேசம் என்று இதற்கு அர்த்தம்.
இந்த நாட்டிற்கென ஒரு கொடி உண்டு.
ஒரு தேசீய கீதம் உண்டு. ஒரு அரசியல் சட்டம் உண்டு. இதில் 150 பாராளுமன்ற உறுப்பினர்களும் உண்டு.
குறுங்கோள்கள், விண்கற்கள், மனிதரால் விண்வெளிக்கு அனுப்பப்பட விண்கலங்களில் பல செயலிழந்ததனாலும் விபத்துக்குள்ளாகியதாலும் உருவான துண்டுகள் உள்ளிட்டவை பூமி மீது மோதினால் என்ன செய்வது?
இதைத் தடுக்க அஸ்கார்டியா ஒரு குறுங்கோள்களின் கூட்டமைப்பை உருவாக்கி பூமியைக் காக்கும் பணியில் ஈடுபடும்.
முதல் அஸ்கார்டியா தேசம் ஒரு கையளவே தான் இருக்கிறது.
அஸ்கார்டியா – 1 என்று பெயரிடப்பட்டு இந்த தேசம் 2017, நவம்பர் மாதம் விண்ணில் ஏவப்பட்டு சுற்றிக் கொண்டே இருக்கிறது
இதன் மொத்த எடை 2.8 கிலோகிராம். நீளம் 20 செண்டிமீட்டர். இது. அதாவது 8 அங்குலம் – ஒரு கையளவு தான்!
அஸ்கார்டிய தேச மக்கள் அஸ்கார்டியன் என்று அழைக்கப்படுவர்.
அஸ்கார்டிய தேசத்தின் நிர்வாக அலுவலகம் ஆஸ்திரியாவில் வியன்னாவில் உள்ளது.
இந்த தேசத்தை உருவாக்கியவர் இகார் அஷுர்பெய்லி. (பிறப்பு 9-9-1963 வயது 61) இவர் அஜர்பைஜன் சோவியத் சோஷியல் ரிபப்ளிக்கில் பாகு என்ற இடத்தில் பிறந்தார். இவரே தான் தேசத்தின் தலைவர்.
ஐநாவின் விண்வெளிக் கொள்கைப்படி மொத்த விண்வெளியும் மனிதகுலம் முழுமைக்கும் சொந்தமானது. சந்திர, சூரியன் உட்பட்ட எதையும் எந்த நாடும் தனி உரிமையாகச் சொந்தம் கொண்டாட முடியாது.
அப்படி இருக்கும் போது அஸ்கார்டியா – 1ம் இதுவரை யாராலும் அங்கீகரிக்கப்படவில்லை.
அமெரிக்காவிலிருந்து இது ஏவப்பட்டதால் தற்போதைக்கு அமெரிக்க விண்வெளிச் சட்டங்களே இந்த விண்வெளி தேசத்திற்கும் பொருந்தும்.
தனி காலனி ஒன்றை விண்வெளியில் அமைக்க அஸ்கார்டியா எண்ணி இருக்கிறது.
ஆனால் ஒரு விண்வெளி நிலையம் அமைத்து அது தொடர்ந்து செயல்பட வைக்கும் ஆகும் செலவோ மலைக்க வைக்கும் நூறு பில்லியன் அமெரிக்க டாலர் ஆகும்.
ஆகவே, அஸ்கார்டியாவின் எதிர்காலம் பொறுத்திருந்து கவனிக்க வேண்டிய ஒன்றாக இருக்கிறது!

Nominated as one of theWorld’s best 100 caricaturists by Romanian Cartoonists Association- 2007 and again in 2011 . In 2016 awarded as the second best caricaturist in the world by them too.
Author of ‘Thiraiseelai’, a collection of Essays on world cinema, ‘Oru Beediyundo Sakhave’ another collection of cinema essays , ‘Neengal eppadi oviyar aaneergal’ a collection of interviews with 17 eminent artists and ‘Maayamaan ulavum Vanam’ a collection of essays on Cinema.
His Book ‘Thiraicheelai’ has won the Special mention award in the ‘Best Book on Cinema’ category in the National film Awards 2011, and after 29 years a Book in Thamizh has won this award.
Received the Award from the hands of the President at New Delhi on 9-9-2011.
‘Oru Beediyundo Sakhave’ bagged the best ‘katturai thoguppu’ award from Vasagasalai, Chennai.
Kalaimamani Award now announced by the govt of TamilNadu for the year 2021
