This blog has three articles on Sister Nivedita written from 2018. I was fortunate to attend the unveiling of Sister NivedIta’s statue in London on 1 July 2023.

Here is the report about the great event.

Sister Nivedita started a school in Wimbledon and used novel methods in teaching. So a spot on Lake Road in Wimbledon, London under Merton council was chosen. Moreover, it is near the Ricards Lodge High School for girls. The school hall was used for the unveiling event.  The event was well attended and well organised. All the speakers pointed out Sister Nivedita’s work in the field of education, particularly women’s education. They said that her life and service to community will inspire everyone for ages to come. Singers sang relevant songs and enthralled the audience in between the speeches. Girl students read the English translation.

Swami Sarvasthananda, Minister in charge of Ramakrishna Vedanat Centre, UK and Swami Nirmalatmananda from Brazil centre , American historian and academic Ruth Harris and many others spoke and praised the service of Sister Nivedita. Songs by Singers Dr Uma Basu and Pundit Chiranjib Chakravarthy and others  sanctified the atmosphere.

Just before the start of the meeting Mayor Councillor Doug Smyth Mayor of Great Torrington ( Devon area in England)where Sister Nivedita Celebrations have installed another statue of Nivedita, unveiled the statue .  along with Madam Mayor Jill Manly Mayor of Merton (in London) where the statue is installed now .

Torrington is the place where Sister Nivedita’s ash was buried in the family cemetery though Sister Nivedita died in Darjeeling in India.

Following the unveiling two Swamijis, Rev Swami Nirmalatmanandaji Maharaj Minister in charge of Sao Paolo Brazil and Rev Swami Sarvasthanandaji MIC London paid respects by garlanding the statue.

In her speech Mrs K Page Head teacher at the Girls High school praised the girl students who came as volunteers for the event. Mrs Sarada Sircar thanked everyone from the sculptor of the statue to the donors for the installation of the statue.

A souvenir with good articles on Nivedita was released. Descendants of Sister Nivedita also participated in the event.

Merton council, under which Wimbledon falls, did a great job in making the event a success.

Here is a brief life history of Sister Nivedita (28 October 1867 – 13 October 1911)

1867, October 28
The child Margaret Elizabeth Noble (later called Sister Nivedita by Swami Vivekananda) is born to Mary Isabel Hamilton and Samuel Richmond Noble of Scotch Street, Dungannon, Northern Ireland.
Her siblings :Richmond Noble, May Noble  (Wilson)

1891-94
A young Margaret takes up a teaching job at Wimbledon, England. She is an exceptionally gifted teacher and within a few years, starts a school of her own, influenced by the progressive methods of Swedish educator Johann Pestalozzi and his pupil Friedrich Froebel.

1894
Margaret co-founds the Sesame Club, where she is noticed for her strong, progressive views on education. She makes the acquaintance of leading intellectuals such as Thomas Huxley, the poet W. B. Yeats and playwright George Bernard Shaw.

1895 November.
Margaret meets Swami Vivekananda at a lecture at Isabella Margesson’s residence at West End, London. She is profoundly influenced by the Swami’s vision and starts corresponding with him on a regular basis.

1898, January 28.
Margaret arrives in Calcutta on the ship Mombasa.

1898, March 17.
Margaret meets Sarada Devi for the first time who shares food with her, breaking a centuries old taboo. Sarada Devi’s gesture throws opens doors for foreign-born Margaret in orthodox Hindu society of the time.

1898, March 25.
Initiated by Vivekananda into Brahmacharya, becomes Nivedita, The Dedicated, of Ramakrishna-Vivekananda.

1898, May 11.
Travels to the Himalayas with Swamiji and fellow disciples Sara Bull and Josephine McLeod.

1898, November.
Nivedita returns to Calcutta and moves to 16, Bosepara Lane.

1898, November 13.
Sarada Devi inaugurates the girls’ school on November 13 with a puja in the Thakur Dalan. Swami Vivekananda is present with his brother disciples.


1899, March.
Plague breaks out in Calcutta. Nivedita throws herself into relief work.

1899, May 28.
Nivedita delivers her historic lecture on Kali Worship at the Kalighat Temple.

1899, June 20.
Nivedita leaves for England with Vivekananda and Turiyananda to raise funds for the school. In London, Vivekananda meets her family for the first time.

1899, November 5, Chicago.
Vivekananda bestows spiritual powers upon Nivedita and Sara Bull. “What came to us from a Woman I give to you two women,” he says. Nivedita calls the incident the “great turning point” of her life.

1900, February 27.
Nivedita establishes the “Ramakrishna Guild of Help” in America, supported by Besse Leggett of Ridgely Manor and longtime Vivekananda disciple Sara Bull. The modest plan is to take in and train “twenty widows and twenty orphan girls.”

1900, 8 July.
Nivedita’s book Kali the Mother is published. She dedicates it to her guru Swami Vivekananda, as Vireshwar, Lord of Heroes.

1900, 29 August.
Nivedita receives Swamiji’s now famous benediction at Perros-Guirec village, in Brittany, France. “Be thou to India’s future son / The mistress, servant, friend in one.”

1901 May.
Nivedita travels to Norway as Sara Bull’s guest,accompanied by Abala and JC Bose, and the renowned historian Romesh Chandra Dutt

1901 September-December.
Nivedita assists JC Bose in writing his epoch-making The Living and Non-Living.

1902

Sister Nivedita saw Swami Vivekananda for the last time on 2 July 1902 at Belur Math

Swami Vivekananda died at 9:10 p.m. on 4 July 1902

மஹாராஷ்டிர மாநிலத்தின் புகழ்பெற்ற 108 கோவில்கள் பற்றி எழுதி  முடித்தவுடன் அதை புத்த கமாக அச்சிட அனுப்பிவிட்டேன். இப்போது கர்நாடக மாநிலத்தின் 108 புகழ்பெற்ற கோவில்கள்  பற்றியும் எழுத ஆசை பிறந்தது .வெப் சைட்டுகளில்  நுழைந்தால் சிறியதும் பெரியதுமாக 400 கோவில்களின் பெயர்கள் வருகின்றன. அவற்றில் 108 கோவில்களை மட்டும் தெரிந்தெடுப்பது கடினமானதே ; முயன்றுதான் பார்ப்போமே சில கோவில்களில் வழிபாடு இல்லா மல் சிற்பங்கள் மட்டும் இருக்கும். இன்னும் சில இந்து மதத்துக்குப் புறம்பான சமண தலங்கள் (உ.ம். சிரவண பெல கோலா ) .அவைகளையும் காண்போம்.

தமிழ்நாட்டைப்போலவே கர்நாடக மாநிலத்திலும் 30,000 கோவில்களுக்கு மேல் உள்ளன. இந்தியாவில் ஐந்து லட்சம் கோவில்கள் உள்ளன. இவை அனைத்திலும் அயோத்தியா கோவில் திறப்பு தினத்தில் விசேஷ பூஜைகள் செய்ய ராமர் விக்ரக பிரதிஷ்டை செய்வோர் அழைப்பு விடுத்துள்ளனர்  பெங்களூரு வட்டாரத்தில் மட்டுமே நூற்றுக் கணக்கான கோவில்கள் இருக்கின்றன

முக்கியமான வழிபாட்டுத் தலங்கள் அல்லது இந்து சமய புராணக் காட்சிகளை விளக்கும் சிற்பங்கள் உள்ள இடங்களின் பட்டியல் இதோ:–

முதலில் பெங்களூரிலுள்ள முக்கியக் கோவில்களை ‘புல்லட்bullet points  பாயிண்டு’களில் (சிறப்பு அம்ஸங்களை மட்டும்) காண்போம்

1.The Chokkanathaswamy Temple

சொக்கநாத சுவாமி கோவில் பெங்களூர்

தொல்மூர் பகுதியில் உள்ள சொக்கநாத சுவாமி கோவில் விஷ்ணு கோவில் ஆகும். மதுரையில் இதைச் சொன்னால் சிவன் கோவில் என்று பொருள்படும். ஆனால் இங்கோ சொக்க பெருமாள் குடிகொண்டுள்ளார். சுந்தர என்ற ஸம்ஸ்க்ருதச் சொல்லின் தமிழ் வடிவம் சொக்க . இது மிகப்பழமையான கோவில். சோழர்கால கோவில். தமிழ்க்  கல்வெட்டுகளும் கன்னடக் கல்வெட்டுகளும் இருக்கும் இடம். கலை  வேலைப்பாடு அமைந்த தூண்களையும் சிற்பங்களையும் இங்கே காணலாம். ஒரே கம்பத்தில் விஷ்ணுவின் பத்து அவதாரங்களும் செதுக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது குறிப்பிடத்தக்கது.

2. The Nandhi Temple

நந்தி கோவில்

கெம்ப கவுடாவினால்  (1500 CE ) கட்டப்பட்ட இந்தக் கோவில் பசவன குடியில்  இருக்கிறது

கன்னடத்தில் பசவ என்றால் காளை . இங்கு சிவ பெருமானின் பெரிய வாகனமான நந்தி ஒரே கல்லில் செதுக்கப்பட்டு காட்சி தருகிறது உயரம் 4-6 மீட்டர் அதன் தலையில் இரும்புத் தகடு இருக்கிறது. அது வளராமல் இருக்க இப்படிச் செய்ததாகச் சொல்லுவார்கள்  அதைத் தாண்டி உள்ளே சென்றால் பெரிய கணபதியைக் காணலாம். விஜயநகர ஆட்சியில் 500 ஆண்டுகளுக்கு முன்னர் கட்டப்பட்டது . இங்கு நடைபெறும் நிலக்கடலைத் திருவிழா  (Kadalekaye Parishe Festival (groundnut fair) மிகவும் பிரசித்தமானது. அன்று இறைவனுக்கு நிலக்கடலை மலை போலக்  குவியும்.

3. ISKCON Temple

ஹரே கிருஷ்ணா கோவில்

அண்மைக்காலத்தில் கட்டப்பட்ட கவர்ச்சிமிகு தங்கக்கோவில் . மிகப்பெரிய 56 அடி உயர த்வஜ ஸ்தம்பம் தங்கத் தகட்டினால் மூடப்பட்டுள்ளது. அதே போல கலச சிகரமும் தங்கத் தகட்டினால் மூடப்பட்டுள்ளது.. ஒரு கோடி டாலர் செலவில் கட்டப்பட்ட இந்தக் கோவிலில் ராதா- கிருஷ்ணர் , பலராமனை தரிசிக்கலாம் . நீரூற்றுகளும் பெரிய அலங்கார வளைவுகளும் நம்மை வரவேற்கும். கோவிலுக்குள் ஐந்து பிரார் த்தனை ஹால்/ HALLS மண்டபங்கள் இருக்கின்றன

4. Shivoham Shiva Temple

சிவோஹம் சிவன் கோவில்

பழைய விமான நிலைய ரோட்டில் அமைந்த சிவோஹம் சிவனை யாரும் மிஸ் MISS பண்ண முடியாது. ஏனெனில் சிவபெருமானின் உயரம் 65 அடி. ஆண்டுக்கு 5 லட்ச ம் பேர் தரிசனத்துக்கு வருகின்றனர் . 1995-ல் சிருங்கேரி சுவாமிகளால் கும்பாபிஷேகம் செய்யப்பட்டது. பின்னணியில் கைலாஷ் பர்வதம் இருப்பது போல அமைக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது.32 அடி உயர கணபதி, 28 அடி உயர சிவலிங்கம் ஆகியன எல்லாம் நினைவிலிருந்து நீங்காத அளவுக்கு பெரியவை. சிவன் தலையிலிருந்து கங்கை பாய்கிறது.

5. Banashankari Amma Temple

வனசங்கரி அம்மன் கோவில்

இந்தக் கோவில் கனகபுர சாலையில் நிற்கிறது அண்மைக்கால கோவில் ஆனாலும் இங்கு நடைபெறும் ராகுகால பூஜை பிரபலம் அடைந்துள்ளது. பார்வதியின் உருவமான ஷாகம்பரி  தேவியை கன்னடியர்களும் மராட்டியர்களும் வழிபடுகின்றனர்.

6.Annamma Temple

அன்னம்மா கோவில்

அன்னம்மா தேவி இந்த நகரத்தின் காவல் தேவதையாக கருதப்படுகிறா ள்  ; உள்ளூர் மக்கள் திருமணத்திற்கு முன்னர் வழிபடுவது சம்பிரதாயம். இது நகரின் மெஜஸ்டிக் பகுதியில் கடைகளுக்கு இடையே அமைந்துள்ளது. பாறையில் செதுக்கப்பட்ட ஒற்றைக் கல் புடைப்புச் சிற்பமாக அமமன்  உள்ளார்

7. Dharmaraya Swamy Temple

தர்மராய கோவில்

800 ஆண்டுகளுக்கு முன்னர் வன்னி குல க்ஷத்ரியர் கட்டிய கோவில் இது.  நகரின் கடைத் தெரு பகுதியில் கம்ப கவுடா பஸ்  நிலையம் அருகில் அமைந்தது . விவசாயிகள் வணங் கும் இந்தக் கோவிலின் சித்திரைமாத காவடி உற்சவம் மிகவும் புகழ்பெற்றது.

8. Shrungagiri Shanmukha Temple

 ச்ருங்ககிரி ஷண்முக கோவில்

ராஜ  ராஜேஸ்வரி நகரில் அமைந்த முருகன் கோவில் இது.  இங்கு சுப்ரமண்யர் ஆறுமுகங்களுடன் காட்சி தருகிறார் . 240 அடி உயரமுள்ள சிறு குன்றில் கோவில் கட்டப்பட்டுள்ளது கோபுர உயரம் 62 அடி மேலே 3000 படிகமுள்ள கிரிஸ்டல் மாடம் CRYSTAL DOME இருக்கிறது பகலில் சூரிய ஒளியில் வானவில்லின் வர்ண ஜாலங்களைக் காட்டும் . இரவில் மின்விளக்குகளால் பலவண்ண ஒளி அலை வீசும் . கோபுரத்தில் உள்ள சண்முகருக்கு சூரிய கிரண அபிஷேகம் செய்ய இது அமைக்கப்பட்டது. கோவிலின் நுழை வாயிலில் இரட்டை மயில்களும் மேலே திரி சூலமும் , பஞ்சமுகி ( 5 முக) கணபதியும் நம்மை வரவேற்பார்கள் பின்னர் ஆறுமுக இறைவனைக் காணலாம்

சுவாமி விவேகானந்தரைச் சந்தித்த நாத்திகவாதி, கோடீஸ்வரர், விஞ்ஞானி, பாடகி! – இரண்டாம் பகுதி

விஞ்ஞானி டெஸ்லா

உலகம் கண்ட ஆகப் பெரும் விஞ்ஞானிகளுள் பெரிய விஞ்ஞானி நிகோலா டெஸ்லா. ( பிறப்பு: 10-7-1856 மறைவு 7-1-1943). இன்று உலகெங்கும் ஓடுகின்ற டெஸ்லா கார்களே அவரது விஞ்ஞானத் திறமைக்கான சான்றாகும்.

மின்சாரத் துறையில் அவரது கண்டுபிடிப்புகள் பெரும் புரட்சியைச் செய்தது,

1895ஆம் ஆண்டு இங்கிலாந்திலிருந்து நவம்பர் மாதம் 27ஆம் தேதி நியூயார்க் நகருக்குக் கிளம்பினார் விவேகானந்தர். அங்கு வியத்தகும் பிரபல மேதைகள் மூவரின் சந்திப்பு நிகழ்ந்தது.

பெரும் விஞ்ஞானியான டெஸ்லா, பிரபல கலையுலக மேதையான  பிரெஞ்சு நடிகை மேடம் சாரா பெர்ன்ஹர்ட், சுவாமி விவேகானந்தர் ஆகிய மூவரும் ஒரு நாள் சந்தித்தனர். அறிவியல் உலகில் ஆதிக்கத்தைச் செலுத்தியவர் டெஸ்லா. புலன் சார்ந்த  கலை உலகில் தன் பெருமையை நிலை நாட்டியவர் நடிகையான பெர்ன்ஹர்ட். இவை இரண்டும் கடந்த ஆன்மீக உலகின் சிகரத்தில் ஏறி அமர்ந்தவர் விவேகானந்தர்.

நடிகை பெர்ன்ஹர்ட் நடித்த புத்தரின் வாழ்க்கை பற்றிய இஸில் என்ற நாடகத்தைப் பார்க்கச் சென்றார் விவேகானந்தர். இஸில் என்ற பெண்மணியாக நடித்த பெர்ன்ஹர்ட் அவருடன் பேசப் பெரிதும் விரும்பி வந்தார். அப்போது அங்கு டெஸ்லாவும் இருந்தார்.

டெஸ்லா விவேகானந்தர் கூறிய கல்பங்கள், பிராணன், ஆகாயம் பற்றிய விவரங்களைக் கூர்ந்து கேட்டு மகிழ்ந்தார். டெஸ்லாவின் அறிவியல் பூர்வமான கருத்துக்கள் வேதாந்த கருத்துக்களுடன் ஒத்து இருந்ததால் அனைவரும் மகிழ்ந்தனர்.

உலகம் நலமுற வேண்டும் என்ற உன்னதமான கருத்தை இந்த மூவரும் கொண்டிருந்ததால் அனைவரது பார்வையும் ஒன்றாகவே இருந்தது.

டெஸ்லா தனது மின்சாரம் பற்றிய ஆய்வில் ஈடுபட்டிருந்த போது அவரது கண்டுபிடிப்பால் பெரிய கட்டிடம் இடிந்து விழுந்து தரை மட்டமானது.

அழிவைச் செய்யும் அந்தக் கண்டுபிடிப்பைப் பற்றி எவரிடமும் கூற அவர் மறுத்து விட்டார். அது அவருடனேயே மறைந்தது. டெஸ்லா வேதாந்தம் கலந்த ஒரு விஞ்ஞானி!

பாடகி எம்மா கால்வே

1900ஆம் ஆண்டு ஆகஸ்ட் மாதம் 3ஆம் நாள் நியூயார்க்கிலிருந்து கிளம்பிய விவேகானந்தர் பாரிசை அடைந்தார். அங்கு ஒரு பிரம்மாண்டமான உலகக் கண்காட்சி ஏற்பாடாகி இருந்தது. அதற்குப் பலமுறை சென்றார் அவர். அப்போது பாரிசில் பிரபல ஒபேரா பாடகியான எம்மா கால்வே (பிறப்பு 15-8- 1858 மறைவு 6-1-1942) விவேகானந்தரைச் சந்தித்தார். ஒரு நாள் அவர் பாடிய இசை நிகழ்ச்சிக்கு விவேகானந்தர் விஜயம் செய்தார். அந்த நிகழ்ச்சி தான் எம்மா கால்வேயை உலகப் புகழ் பெற்ற பாடகி ஆக்கியது.

ஆனால் கால்வேயின் வாழ்க்கை மிக சோகமயமான ஒன்று. அவர் பாடிக் கொண்டிருந்த ஒரு நிகழ்ச்சியின் போது,  அவரது ஒரே மகள் தீக்கு இரையாகி மாண்ட செய்தியை நடுவில் கேட்டு அவர் மேடையிலேயே மயங்கி விழுந்தார்.

அவரால் அதிலிருந்து மீளவே முடியவில்லை. பலமுறை தற்கொலைக்கு முயன்றார். ஆனால் ஒவ்வொரு முறையும் அவரது நெருங்கிய தோழி வீட்டிற்கே சென்றார். அங்கு தான் விவேகானந்தர் தங்கி இருந்தார்.

அவருக்கு ஆறுதல் அளித்த விவேகானந்தர் அவரது வாழ்க்கையில் அவர் மட்டுமே அறிந்திருந்த நிகழ்ச்சிகளை வரிசையாகக் கூறினார்.

பிரமித்துப் போன கால்வே, “இதெல்லாம் உங்களுக்கு எப்படித் தெரியும்” என்று கேட்ட போது, “ஒரு திறந்த புத்தகத்தைப் படிப்பது போல உன்னைப் படிக்கிறேன்” என்று கூறிய விவேகானந்தர், “அனைத்தையும் மறந்து விடு. உற்சாகமாக இரு. மகிழ்ச்சியுடன் இரு உன் பணியைத் தொடர்.” என்றார்.

இந்தச் சந்திப்பால் உத்வேகம் பெற்ற கால்வே  கலைத்துறையில் தன் கவனத்தைச் செலுத்தலானார். பெரும் புகழையும் பெற்றார்.

இதே போல ஏராளமான விஞ்ஞானிகளும், அறிஞர்களும், இதர துறை விற்பன்னர்களும் சுவாமி விவேகானந்தரைச் சந்தித்தனர்.

அவரிடமிருந்து உத்வேகம் பெற்று தம் தம் துறையில் சிறந்து விளங்க ஆரம்பித்தனர்.

12-1-11893 அன்று அவதரித்த சுவாமி விவேகானந்தர் அமெரிக்காவையே ஆட்கொண்டார். அமெரிக்க சுதந்திர தினமான ஜூலை நான்காம் தேதியையே தனது சமாதி அடைவதற்கான தினமாகவும் தேர்ந்தெடுத்தார்.

அவர் சமாதி எய்திய தினம் 4-7-1902

அவர் ஒரு முறை கூறினார் : “இந்தியாவின் திரண்ட வடிவமே நான்!” என்று.

இந்தியா உலகிற்கு என்னவெல்லாம் அளிக்க முடியும் என்பதை அவர் தனது வாழ்வின் மூலம் காண்பித்தார்.

ரவீந்திரநாத் தாகூர், “இந்தியாவை அறிய வேண்டுமெனில் சுவாமி விவேகானந்தரைப் படியுங்கள்” என்றார்.

இந்தியாவின் திரண்ட வடிவத்திற்கு நமது உள்ளார்ந்த வணக்கங்களைச் சமர்ப்பித்து அவர் காட்டிய வழியில் முன்னேறுவோம்!

 Bhagavad Gita Homam

Vedic Scholar Anna has given the details of Bhagavad Gita Homam in his Tamil book ‘Homa Vidhanam’.

After the usual preliminaries including Vigneswara puja is finished, Lord Krishna is invoked with his Eight Wives Rukmini, Sathayabhama, Jambavati, Nagnajit, Mitravidha, Kalintyai, Lakshmanaa and Susila , the main Homa is done with 700 Aahutis for all the 700 slokas in the Bhagavd Gita.

After every sloka, the samittu/ wood stick touched in Paayasa (sweet liquid )and ghee is placed in the fire pit with the prayer Om Kleem Krishnaaya Govindaaya, Gopi Jana Valllabhaaya Swaahaa.

Then Purnaahuti is done. All the minute details are available in the book.

Prathyangira Sarabha Soolini Koti Homam

An important activity of Chennai Om Sri Skandasramam is the daily conduct of Prathyangira Sarabha Soolini Koti Homam. The Homam with the Moolamantras of the presiding deities of the Ashram is conducted every day at the yagasalai as per Sri Sanathananda Swamigal’s directions and according to strict Vedic requirements since Kumbhabhishekam (Consecration). It is done to appease Goddess Durga (Chandi). Kanaga Durga Temple in Vijayawada does it everyday.

Chandi Homam performed at Rameswaram to drive away Coronavirus ,June 2020

Rameswaram: A ‘Chandi Homam’, to drive away the ‘evil’ Covid-19 novel coronavirus and praying for world peace was performed in the strict Vedic tradition at the Shankara Mutt premises here on Tuesday.(June 2020).

’36 ‘Vedic Pundits’ under the leadership of the ‘Vedic’ scholar Sri Ananthapadmanabha Sarma, conducted the ‘Yagam’, an elaborate ritual involving the chanting of a lare number of Sanskrit Mantras. 

The ‘Sankalp’ (objective) of the ‘Chandi Homam’ taken on the occasion was “Coronavirus which is crippling the people of the world should be banished from the face of the earth”. Special ‘Yaga Pooja’ and ‘Paarayanam (recitations from holy verses) were also part of the observances in the adjacent hall today.

The ‘Homam’ was undertaken under the advice of the Sankaracharya of the Kanchi Kamamkoti Peetam, Sri Shankara Vijayendra Saraswathi, the sources said.

CM to initiate Poornahuti to conclude Raja Syamala Yagam (May 16,2023)

 VIJAYAWADA: Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy would participate in the Poornahuti on Wednesday to conclude the Ashtottara Satha Kundatmanya (108) Sri Lakshmi Mahayaga with Chandi, Rudra, Rajashyamala and Sudarshana rituals aimed at the comprehensive development of the state.

Deputy chief minister in charge of endowments, Kottu Satyanarayana, said that the poojas and rituals continued for the fifth day on Tuesday with “great success.”

He said this type of a Yaga with chanting of the Vedic mantras in the Chaturagama hall, chanting of the Chaturveda, continuous homams, archanas, kumkumarchans, different abhishekas and special pujas had never been done anywhere else.

Rutviks, Ghanapatis and Vedic scholars are performing the ritual magnificently with all their energy to make the Yaga complete, he said.

He said the venue, the Indira Gandhi Municipal Stadium, will be illuminated with spiritual splendor by virtue of this Maha Krutuvu.

Satyanarayana said the Maha Yajna started with Jagan Reddy’s Sankalp Shuddhi and the Mega Penance would end with the Maha Purnahuti, as has been decided by scholars. The chief minister will reach the Yaga Mandapam at 8.55am, followed by special poojas at the Pancharatra Yagashala at 9.10am and Vedic Smartha Yagashala at 9.20am. Before 9.50am, the Pooja programme related to Purnahuti will be performed in Vaikhanasa Yagashala, where the Amma Rajashyamala is installed.

After that, at 10.10am, the chief minister would come to the Saiva Agama Hall and perform a special puja with the rutviks, ghanapatis and scholars in the midst of chanting the Vedic mantras with black lilies that are very dear to Lord Shiva.

The minister said that at 10.20am, a special abhishekam would be performed for the goddess by the CM. The goddess is present in the form of a golden statue specially brought from Kanchi for this purpose.

As part of the rituals, the rutviks will give Yaga Prasadam to the chief minister. At the same time, the couple who initiated the Yaga will present new silk clothes to the chief minister. The CM will honour Vedic scholars and priests.

7.சம்ஸ்கிருதத்தில் 2000 வினைச் சொற்கள் இருந்ததை பாணினி கால நூல்கள் காட்டுகின்றன. ஆயினும் சுமார் 700 வருடங்களுக்குப் பின்னர் பாணினியின் புஸ்தகத்துக்கு பேருரை – மஹா  பாஷ்யம் — எழுதிய பதஞ்சலி முனிவர் காலத்தில் (150 BCE) சம்ஸ்கிருதத்தில் 800 வினைச் சொற்களே உபயோகத்தில் இருந்தன . இதைக் குறிப்பிடும் பதஞ்சலி முனிவர் ஏனைய 1200 வினைச் சொற்களை கற்பனை என்று கருதிவிடக்கூடாது என்றும் நம்மை எச்சரிக்கிறார் . அதாவது காலக்கிரமத்தில் நிறைய சொற்கள் வழக்கொழிந்து போகின்றன.

சுவாமி விவேகானந்தரைச் சந்தித்த நாத்திகவாதி, கோடீஸ்வரர், விஞ்ஞானி, பாடகி! – முதல் பகுதி

ஸ்பரிசவேதி விவேகானந்தர்

ஸ்பரிசவேதி என்ற மூலிகை ஒன்று உண்டு. அந்த மூலிகை எதன் மீது பட்டாலும் அது தங்கமாக மாறி விடுமாம்.

தொட்டதெல்லாம் தங்கம்!

இதே போலத் தான் மகான்களும் என்கின்றன நமது அறநூல்கள். மகான்களின் பார்வை ஒரு கணம் நம் மீது பட்டாலும் போதும், அவர்கள் நம்முடன் ஓரிரு வார்த்தைகள் பேசினாலும் போதும், நம் வாழ்வே மாறி உயர்நிலையை அடைய வழி வகுக்கும், நமக்கு ஞானம் சித்திக்கும் என்பர்.

இந்த வகையில் சமீப காலத்தில் வாழ்ந்து இந்தக் கூற்றை நிரூபித்த ஸ்பரிசவேதி சுவாமி விவேகானந்தர் ஆவார்.

அவர் வாழ்க்கையில் அவரைச் சந்தித்தோர் நூற்றுக் கணக்கானோர்.

அவரிடம் நேரடித் தொடர்பு கொண்டோரின் வாழ்க்கை கண நேரத்தில் மாறியது; உயர்ந்தது.

அப்படிப்பட்டோரில் ஒரு நால்வரைப் பற்றி இங்கு பார்க்கலாம்.

நாத்திகவாதி இங்கர்ஸால்

அமெரிக்காவில் வாழ்ந்த இங்கர்ஸால் (பிறப்பு : 11-8-1833 மறைவு 21-7-1899) ஒரு பிரபலமான நாத்திகவாதி. அனைவரையும் கவர்ந்து இழுக்கும் சொற்பொழிவாளர்.

சுவாமி விவேகானந்தர் சிகாகோவில் இருந்த போது அவரைச் சந்தித்தார் இங்கர்ஸால். கொள்கையளவில் எதிரும் புதிருமாக இருந்த இருவரும் பலமுறை சந்தித்துக் கருத்துப் பரிமாற்றம் செய்து கொண்டனர்.

சுவாமிஜியைச் சந்தித்த இங்கர்ஸால் தன் கையிலிருந்த ஒரு ஆரஞ்சுப் பழத்தைத் தூக்கிப் போட்டுப் பிடித்தவாறே கூறினார் இப்படி: “இந்த ஆரஞ்சுப் பழத்தின் சாறு முழுவதையும் குடித்து விட வேண்டும் என்று நினைக்கிறேன். இந்த வாழ்க்கை ஒன்று தான் நமக்கு உறுதியாகத் தெரியும். இன்னொன்று உண்டோ இல்லையோ, யார் கண்டது?”

இதைக் கேட்ட விவேகானந்தர் அவர் லோகாயதவாதத்தை மனதில் கொண்டு உலக இன்பங்கள் அனைத்தையும் அனுபவிக்க விரும்புவதைத் தெரிந்து கொண்டு உடனடியாக பதில் தந்தார் இப்படி:

“ஆரஞ்சுப் பழத்தின் சாறு முழுவதையும் குடிப்பதில் தப்பே இல்லை.

கடைசிச் சாறு வரை குடிப்பது எனக்கு உடன்பாடு தான். ஆனால் அதற்கான உங்கள் வழியை விட இன்னும் சிறந்ததான வழி எனக்குத் தெரியும்”

அத்தோடு தொடர்ந்தார் : “எனக்கு மரணம் இல்லை என்பது எனக்குத் தெரியும். அதனால் அந்தச் சாறைக் குடிக்க நான் அவசரப்படுவதில்லை. இறந்து விடுவேனோ என்ற பயம் எனக்கு இல்லை. ஆகவே நிதானமாகச் சாறு பிழிகிறேன். மனிதனைக் கடவுளாக நேசிக்கக் கற்றுக் கொள்ளுங்கள். அப்போது இந்த வழியில் ஆரஞ்சைப் பிழிந்து பாருங்கள். நீங்கள் பிழிவதை விட லட்சம் மடங்கு கூடுதலாக உங்களுக்குச் சாறு கிடைக்கும்“ என்றார்.

இங்கர்ஸால் பிரமித்தார்.

“உங்களைப் பத்திரமாகப் பார்த்துக் கொள்ளுங்கள். சில காலம் முன்பு இங்கு வந்திருந்து இப்படிச் சொல்லி இருந்தீர்கள் என்றால் உங்களைத் தூக்கில் தொங்க விட்டிருப்பார்கள்” என்ற இங்கர்ஸால் விவேகானந்தரைப் பற்றி அக்கறையும் கவலையும் கொண்டார்.

இங்கர்ஸாலிடம் உபநிடதங்களை விவரித்தார் விவேகானந்தர். வேதாந்தம் மூலம் அனைத்தையும் நன்கு அறிந்து வாழ்க்கை மர்மத்தை நன்கு புரிந்து கொண்டு சுவைக்க முடியும் என்பதை அறிந்து கொண்ட இங்கர்ஸால், இது தான் வழி என்றால் இது எனக்குப் பிடிக்கிறது என்றார்

கோடீஸ்வரர் ராக்ஃபெல்லர்

சிகாகோவில் சுவாமிஜையைச் சந்தித்த இன்னொரு பிரபலமானவர் கோடீஸ்வரர் ஜான் டி. ராக்ஃபெல்லர். (பிறப்பு : 8-7-1839 மறைவு 23-5-1937)  ராக்ஃபெல்லரின் நண்பர் ஒருவர் வீட்டில் அவர் தங்கி இருந்த போது அவரைச் சந்தித்தார் ராக்ஃபெல்லர்.

கதவைத் திறந்த வேலையாளைத் தள்ளி விட்டு முன் அனுமதி கூடப் பெறாமல் வேகமாக விவேகானந்தர் இருந்த அறையில் நுழைந்தார் அவர்.

அப்போது விவேகானந்தர் ஏதோ எழுதிக் கொண்டிருந்தார்.  வந்தவர் யாரென்று அவர்  பார்க்கவில்லை. சிறிது நேரம் கழிந்தது. தலையைத் தூக்காமலேயே ராக்ஃபெல்லரின் வாழ்க்கையில் அவர் மட்டுமே அறிந்திருந்த நிகழ்ச்சிகள் பலவற்றைக் கூறிய விவேகானந்தர் கடைசியாக, “ நீங்கள் சேர்த்துள்ள சொத்தானது உண்மையில் உங்களுடையது அல்ல. உலகிற்கு நன்மை செய்வதற்காகவே அதை கடவுள் உங்களிடம் ஒப்படைத்திருக்கிறார்.  ஆகவே அந்தப் பணத்தால் உலகிற்கு நன்மை செய்யுங்கள்” என்றார்.

ராக்ஃபெல்லர் திகைத்தார். தான் என்ன செய்ய வேண்டும் என்பதைச் சொல்ல இவர் யார் என்று நினைத்தவர் வெளியேறினார்.

ஆனால் விவேகானந்தரின் சொற்கள் அவரைச் சுற்றிச் சுற்றி வந்தன.

ஒரு வாரம் கழித்து ஒரு பொதுத் தொண்டு நிறுவனத்திற்கு பெரிய தொகை ஒன்றை நன்கொடையாக அளிக்க அவர் முடிவு செய்தார்.

அதைப் பற்றிய விவரங்களை எழுதிய அவர் முன்பு போலவே விரைவாக விவேகானந்தர் இருந்த அறைக்குள் திடீரென்று நுழைந்தார்.

தான் எழுதிய பேப்பரை அவரிடம் தந்து, “இதோ இதைப் படித்துப் பாருங்கள். நீங்கள் எனக்கு நன்றி சொல்ல வேண்டியதிருக்கும்” என்றார்.

விவேகானந்தர் முன்பு போலவே தலை நிமிராமல் அதை வாங்கிப் படித்தார். பின்னர், “நன்றி சொல்ல வேண்டியது நான் அல்ல; நீங்கள் தான் சொல்ல வேண்டும்” என்றார்.

ராக்ஃபெல்லர் முதன் முதலாக அளித்த பெரிய நன்கொடை தொகை அது தான்!

அன்றிலிருந்து ராக்ஃபெல்லர் பவுண்டேஷன் பெரிதாக வளர்ந்தது.உலகின் போற்றத்தக்க சிறந்த கொடையாளி ஆனார் அவர்.

The details of Purusha sukta Homa, Sri Sukta Homa and Gayatri Homa are given below:-

PURUSHASUKTA HOMA:

Purushasukta hymn of Rigveda is very famous; it is in the tenth mandala of the Veda. Rudram and Purusasuktam are recited in temples and orthodox houses everyday. This hymn gives a symbolic account of the manifestation of the Divinity through Creation. It is in praise of Purusha, the Cosmic being.

Just before starting this Homa, all the preliminary things including Vigneswara Puja , are done like we do in all Homas.

Then the main mantras beginning

Sahasraseersha purushah ………………………… are divided into 18 parts and with saying Swaahaa,  Ahuthi is placed in the fire.

After this,  all the finishing rituals like Jayaathi homa etc are done.

Benefits

The benefits are :- general welfare of the family  and anything wished for in particular is obtained

Sri Sukta Homa

Sri is Goddess Lakshmi in charge of Wealth. So the main benefit is acquiring wealth.

Sri Suktam is part of the later Vedas.  The hymn beginning with

Hiranyavarnaam Harineem…………..

Is divided into 15 parts and with each saying Swaahaa, Aahuti is poured into Homa fire .

After this,  Post Homa rituals are done.

Gayatri Homa

Gayatri Mantra is found in all the Four Vedas. It is considered the most powerful Mantra. And Brahmins recite this mantra three times a day with the water ablutions.

Every Brahmin boy is supposed to do it on Upakarma Day after his Punul Kalyanam/ Ceremony .

Upakarma occurs every year in the month of Sravan, when Brahmins change their sacred thread start the Vedic study again anew.

Those who do the Gayatri Homa, invoke Goddess Gayatri and recite the Mantra 1008 times. With each mantra and  saying Swaahaa , he places the Samiththu (wood stick from Peepal trees) with ghee in fire pit.

At the conclusion, Goddess is given a send off .

All the Homas are done with some Sweet Prasad.

After all the Homas, the black ash residue is taken from the Havan vessel and mixed with a few drops of ghee it is placed in the forehead of all participants. It is called Homa Rakshaa.

Newly  Married couple are honoured on Diwali day as they celebrate ‘Head (Chief Diwali)’.  In Tamil they call it Thalai Deepavali (Head/Chief Diwali).

For the first pregnancy Seemantha ritual is done. The first delivery of a woman is called Thalaip Prasavam (First or Chief Pregnancy/Delivery).

The First Upakarma that occurs after the Punul/ sacred thread Kalynam of a boy is called Thalai Avaniyaa Vattam (Avittam), i.e.Chief Aavani Avittam.

(aavani = Sraavan month; Avittam is star name; full moon occurs in that star; Dhanishtha: धनिष्ठा), (Tamil: அவிட்டம்). it is Sraavan Puurnimaa)

On that day, the boy must do Gayatri Homa with 1008 times Japa. It will take at least two hours . After placing 1008 sticks in the fire with ghee and Pipal wood sticks, reciting the mantra 1008 times,  the Homa is concluded by sending back the goddess with relevant mantras.

Prasad , Aarti etc follows.

Hindus invoke all gods before reciting a hymn or sloka. In the same way, they send the god back by saying good bye. Even during the Tarpana for the departed souls, they invite them first, offer them the things, and send them back with proper salutes.
