Akanauru wonders continue; Mamular (MM) adds more interesting information.
Mysore and Mathangi
In Akam 115, Maamoolar (MM) says
In ancient literature including Bible, a beauty of a town is compared with the beauty of a woman.
In this verse 115, the lady says I don’t care even if my beauty equal to the Kuda Naadu of Erumai disappears.
Two interesting points are here ; the commentator just gave us the literal interpretation and missed the main thing.
Erumai in English is buffalo and Mahisha in Sanskrit.
Kuda Naadu is the western region of ancient Tamil nadu covering modern Kerala and part of Karnataka . all of us read that the river Kaveri originates in Kudagu.
The name of Mysuru is derived from the word Mahisa/buffalo. According to all encyclopaedias once Mahisa Asura ruled this region and hence the name Mahishanur or Mahishapura. So, MM refers to the ancient story of Mahishasura and his destruction by Chamundeeswary whose temple is in the same area.

The second interesting detail is the breaking of lyres, YAAZ in Tamil. When the singers came to know that their supporter EVVI died in the battle field, they broke their musical instruments. The commentators add the lyre instruments are worshipped by the Paanars/singers because Goddess Maathangi (Sarasvati) resides in it. Worthy of worship is the epithet given to Yaaz in the poem.
YAAZ gave birth to the word JAZZ.
J=Y in all languages, because Sanskrit is the only ancient language that has J.

MM adds another Chieftain Anji’s name in the poem. The gist of the poem is my lover is delaying his return That is Okay; let the gossiping women say whatever they want to say. My man should live longer – Long Live My Lover.

One more interesting point is that the lady in the poem says My town is the one where the festivals never stop. Like Vedic women Tamil Hindu women were enjoying the festivals celebrated in their towns.
Here is the poem for Tamil lovers:
அழியா விழவின், அஞ்சுவரு மூதூர்ப்
பழிஇலர் ஆயினும், பலர்புறங் கூறும்
அம்பல் ஒழுக்கமும் ஆகியர், வெஞ்சொல்
சேரிஅம் பெண்டிர் எள்ளினும் எள்ளுக;
நுண்பூண் எருமை குடநாட் டன்னஎன்
ஆய்நலம் தொலையினும் தொலைக; என்றும்
நோய்இல ராக, நம் காதலர் – வாய்வாள்
எவ்வி வீழ்ந்த செருவில் பாணர்
கைதொழு மரபின்முன் பரித்துஇடூஉப் பழிச்சிய
வள்உயிர் வணர்மருப்பு அன்ன, ஒள்இணர்ச்

நன்னர் ஆய்கவின் தொலையச் சேய்நாட்டு

MM adds some historical and geographical details in his verse 127
1.King of Kerala Cheralathan sent his naval force and destroyed his enemies and chopped their Kadamba Tree.
In the stories of Skanda /Murugan we read about Lord Kartikeyan/Murugan destroying Soora Padman and cutting off his Mango tree.
This type of tree symbols we read more in Tamil . We need to do more research into this.
Even when Sugriva wanted to test the strength of Rama, he was asked to pierce seven trees with one arrow and Rama did it.
When Akananuru described Krishna- Gopi Girls anecdote a Kuruntha Tree is referred to. But others described it as Punnai tree. More research is required about the flora and fauna of a particular area.

2.Another detail is that Chera king engraved his Bow Symbol on the Himalaya.

3.THE MOST INTERESTING DETAIL IS THE TRIBUTE OR BOOTY HE GOT DURING NORTHERN TRIP; HE GOT DIAMONDS AND GOLD AND BROUGHT IT TO HIS CITY MAANTHAI.
The amount of tribute or booty is AAMBAL, says MM..Commentators say Ambal is a number. Unfortunately, no one gave us the exact figure. We can guess that it is a big number.

MM adds that the robbers waiting to rob the travellers wore flowers in their hair. Even the murderous robbers had music, festivals, worship of Durga and decoration of their hair!

MM’s cliché is Countries where many languages are spoken. Later poets like Nakkeerar also copied this phrase. We know beyond Venkatam Tamil is NOTspoken.
This is a blow to Caldwell gang. With only three Tamil numbers in Brahui language, this gang described Brahui a Dravidian language Even English has two Tamil numbers – One and Eight!!

MM talks about Sword Fish and a tribal festival called Poonthodai Vizaa. This is in verse Akam 187. This festival is celebrated in front of Durga (temple), when youths complete their weapon training.

In verse Akam 91, MM sings about Nymphs in Tanks. We have Nereids in Greek mythology and the Tamil word NEER in Greek. Kuttuva’s Kuda Naadu (west coast) is also mentioned.

In Akam verse 65, MM used a beautiful simile. The forest fire looked like the lamps of the boats on the waves of the sea. So many ships and boats were going in the sea in the night and on top of the rising waves they looked like the tip of the forest fire. MM must be a great traveller. Great Chera king Uthiyan Cheralathan is also mentioned.

In verse Akam 97, the chest of the woman is compared to the beauty of Viyaloor. Tiger killing deer, robbers killing cows are also described. Dancer’s Thalaik kol is also referred to.
TALAIKKOL
In the country of Nannan, the dancers made Talaikkol from a chosen bamboo. MM says just Kol/stick from bamboo. But the commentators say that it is Talikkol of the Kooththiyars/dancers.
The story of Talikkol is very interesting. Indra’s son Jayantha misbehaved with the divine beauty Urvasi in the heaven. Enraged Agastya cursed Jayantha to become a bamboo tree in the Vindhya Hills and Urvasi to be born on earth as a courtesan. During Indra Viza /festival, a bamboo stick is made by the dancers and it is called Talaikol. It is passed onto other courtesan/daughter to use.
