Twelve Vaishnavite Tamil saints are called Alvars (aalvaar). Most of them lived 1200 years ago, a few of them even earlier. 4000 poems on Lord Vishnu and his Ten Avatars sung by them are compiled in the book called Divya Prabandham. Here is some interesting information about secular subjects and religious matters. (Translation of poems by Kausalya Hart are taken from Project Maduri)

335. If you want to see the young son of Devaki,
Kaṇṇan, the lord who hid the light of the sun with his discus
for thirty nalihais, made enemy kings wait and conquered them,
go to the people who saw him drive the chariot for Arjuna
when Arjuna fought and killed Jayathratha in the Bharatha war.
This episode is actually about solar eclipse happened 3000 years ago. The battle was fought on alternate days.

70. You listened to the words of the strong cowherds,
fought and controlled seven strong bulls
and married the dark-haired Nappinnai, lovely as a peacock.
You went on a bright shining chariot,
searched for the lost children,
found them and brought them back to their mother.
O dear one, shake your head and crawl for me once.
You are a bull and you fight for the cowherds. Crawl, crawl.
This poem says that they went in a space shuttle and returned in a moment
403. The Thiruppadi of the lord
who brought the four children of his guru
back to life quickly
when they could not be alive as soon as they were born
is Srirangam where good Vediyars
skilled the Vedas live,
making sacrifices with fire
and receiving guests happily.
Tamil Word in the poem is IRAIP POZUTHU which means a moment
Periyalvar and Nammalvar sang about this space travel.
Commentators added Muhurta and the meaning of Muhurta in ancient days was different from today. Now it means 48 minutes. But in Rig Veda it meant a moment

World famous Indian poet Kalidasa wrote that all the Three Gods Brahma, Vishnu and Siva are one entity. They are seen in different angles. This is echoed by Saivite and Vaishnavite Poets in many hymns.

உருப்பிணி நங்கையைத் தேர் ஏற்றிக் கொண்டு,

ருக்மிணிப்பிராட்டியை தேரிலே ஏற்றிக்கொண்டு போகும்பொது, எதிர் நின்ற ருக்மனுடைய வீரியம் அழியும்படி தலையைச் சிரைத்து விட்டவனுடைய வன்மையை பாடிப்பற, தேவகி வயிற்றில் பிறந்து சிங்கம் போன்ற வீரம் உடையவனை பாடிப்பற
விதர்ப்ப தேசத்தில் குண்டினி என்கிற பட்டணத்தில் பீஷ்மகன் என்கிற ஒரு அரசனுக்கு ருக்மன் முதலிய ஐந்து பிள்ளைகளும் ருக்மிணி என்கிற ஒரு பெண்ணும் இருந்தனர். அந்த ருக்மிணி ஸ்ரீமஹாலக்ஷ்மியின் அவதாரம்; அவள் திருமண வயது வந்தவுடன், கண்ணன் அங்கு சென்று இந்த பெண்ணை எனக்குத் திருமணம் செய்து கொடுங்கள் என்று கேட்டான்; ருக்மன் என்ற அவளது சகோதரன் அவளைச் சிசுபாலனுக்குக் கொடுக்க நினைத்துக் கண்ணனுக்குக் கொடுக்க முடியாதென்று சொன்னான். சிலநாள் கழிந்தபின் ருக்மிணியின் கல்யாணத்துக்காக சுயம்வரம் என்று முடிவு செய்து எல்லா தேசத்து அரசர்களையும் வரவழைத்தான்.
இதன் இடையில் ருக்மிணி “தன்னை எவ்வகையினாலும் மணந்து செல்லும்படி கண்ணனிடத்து ஒர் அந்தணனைத் தூது விட்டிருந்தாள். கண்ணனும் அப்படியே பலராமன் முதலியோரைக் கூட்டிக் கொண்டு அந்த பட்டணத்திற்கு எழுந்தருளினான். கல்யாண முஹுர்த்த தினத்துக்கு முதல்நாள் ருக்மிணியைத் எடுத்துத் தேரில் ஏற்றிக் கொண்டு ஊர் நோக்கிப் புறப்பட்டான். சிசுபாலன் முதலிய சில அரசர்கள் கண்ணனை எதிர்த்துப் போர் செய்ய முயல பலராமனும் தானுமாக அவர்களை அடக்கி வென்று ஓட்டி விட்டான்.
பின்பு ருக்மிணியின் தமையனான ருக்மன் மிகவும் ஆத்திரப்பட்டு கண்ணனைக் கொல்ல வந்தபோது, அவனைக் கண்ணன் ருக்மினியின் வேண்டுதலின் படி உயிர்க் கொலை செய்யாமல் அவனது மீசையையும், குடுமியையும் சிரைத்து அவமானப் படுத்திவிட்டான்

மொட்டையும் குடுமியும்

ஆதி காலத்தில் இந்து, புத்த, சமண மதத்தில் மிகுந்த ஈடுபாடுடையோர் வெளிச் சின்னங்கள் மூலம் அதைக் காட்டினர். காவி உடை, மஞ்சள் உடை, வெள்ளாடை இப்படி வெளிப்புறத்திலும் நெற்றியில் விபூதி, குங்குமம், சந்தனம், கோபி, நாமம் இப்படிப் பல சின்னங்களாலும் யார் என்பதைக் காட்டினர். இது போலவே தலை முடி விஷயத்திலும் பல பாணிகள் (ஸ்டைல்) நிலவின. முன் குடுமி, பின் குடுமி, மொட்டை (பௌத்தர்), மயிர் ஒவ்வொன்றாக பறித்து மொட்டையாகுதல் (சமணர்) என்று பல வகைகள் இருந்தன. முற்றிலும் உணர்ந்த ஞானிகள் இந்த வெளி வேஷத்தைப் பொருட்படுத்தாமல் தத்துவங்களில் மட்டுமே நம்பிக்கை வைத்தனர். ஏனெனில் காலப்போக்கில் இது எல்லாம் ஏமாற்றும் பேர்வழிகளுக்கு வசதியாகப் போயின.
வள்ளுவர், ஆதிசங்கரர், புத்தர், திருமூலர் ஆகிய எல்லோரும் இதில் ஒருமித்த கருத்து வைத்திருப்பது வியப்பளிக்கிறது.இவர்கள் ஒவ்வொருவரும் வெவ்வேறு காலகட்டங்களில், இந்தியாவின் வெவ்வேறு பகுதிகளில் வசித்தவர்கள்.

1400 ஆண்டுகளுக்கு முன் தமிழகத்தை ஆண்ட மஹேந்திர பல்லவ மன்னன் சம்ஸ்கிருதத்தில் ஒரு நகைச்சுவை நாடகம் எழுதி இருக்கிறான். மத்தவிலாசப்ரஹசனம் என்ற அந்த நாடகத்தில் இந்து, புத்த, ஜைன (சமண) மத போலி சந்யாசிகளைக் கிண்டல் செய்துள்ளான். சங்க்ரரின் பஜகோவிந்தத்தில் சொல்லும் விஷயம், மஹேந்திர வர்மன் நேரில் கண்ட காட்சியுடன் இணைகிறது!
முடி விஷயத்தில் பல வகையான ‘ஸ்டைல்கள்’ வேத காலம் முதலே இருந்திருக்கின்றன. ஏதோ இந்தக் காலத்தில் ரவிவர்மா வரைந்த படங்களில்தான் சிவனுக்கு மீசை, விஷ்ணுவுக்கு மீசை இல்லை என்று நினைத்துவிட வேண்டாம். சிவபெருமானை வருணிக்கும் யஜூர் வேத ருத்ரம்/சமகத்தில் சிவனை மொட்டையன் என்றும் நீண்ட சடையன் என்றும் போற்றுகின்றனர்.
நீண்ட சடையன் (கபர்தீன்)
வ்யுப்தகேச (முண்டம்/ மழித்த) – ருத்ரம் (யஜூர் வேதம்)
வைத்தால் குடுமி சிரைத்தால் மொட்டை என்ற தமிழ்ப் பழமொழி இந்த ருத்ர மந்திரத்தில் இருந்துதான் வந்ததோ என்னவோ!

வள்ளுவர் கூறுகிறார்:
மழித்தலும் நீட்டலும் வேண்டா உலகம்
பழித்தது ஒழித்துவிடின் – (குறள் 280)
பொருள்: தவம் செய்வாருக்கு மொட்டை அடித்துக் கொள்வதும் சடை முடி வளர்த்தலும் தேவை இல்லை உலகத்தார் எதையெல்லாம் பழிக்கிறார்களோ அத்தகைய தீய வழக்கங்களை விட்டாலே போதும்.

சங்கரரும் சாடுகிறார்
தத்துவ வித்தகர் ஆதி சங்கரர் பஜ கோவிந்தம் என்ற அருமையான துதிப்பாடலில் இதை அழகாக வருணிக்கிறார். இந்தப் பாட்டை அவரது சீடர் தோடகர் பாடியதாகச் சொல்லுவர்.:
“ஜடிலோ முண்டி லுஞ்சித கேச :
காஷாயாம்(அ)ம்பர பஹுக்ருத வேஷ :
பஸ்யன் அபி ச ந பஸ்யதி மூட:
ஹ்யுதரநிமித்தம் பஹுக்ருத வேஷ :”
—பஜகோவிந்தம்
( : இவ்வாறு இரண்டு புள்ளி இருக்கும் இடத்தில் ஹ என்று உச்சரிக்கவும்.எ.கா. வேஷஹ, கேசஹ, மூடஹ).
பொருள்: ஒருவன் சடை முடியுடன் இருக்கிறான். மற்றொருவனோ மொட்டைத் தலையன். இன்னும் ஒருவன் ஒவ்வொரு முடியாகப் பிடுங்கிவிட்டான். இன்னொருவன் காவி உடையில் வலம் வருகிறான். இந்த மூடர்கள் கண் இருந்தும் குருடர்கள். இந்த வெளி வேஷம் எல்லாம் வயிற்றுப் பிழைப்புக்குத்தான்.
எவ்வளவு பெரிய உண்மையை எவ்வளவு அழகாகச் சொல்லிவிட்டார் தோடகர்.

திருமூலரின் திருமந்திரம்
நூலும் சிகையும் நுவலில் பிரமமோ
நூலது கார்ப்பாசம் நுண்சிகை கேசமாம்
நூலது வேதாந்தம் நுண்சிகை ஞானமாம்
நூலது அந்தணர் காணும் நுவலிலே
பூணூலும் உச்சுக்குடுமியும் தரித்திருக்கும் எல்லா பிராமணர்களையும் பிரம்மத்தை அறிந்தவர்கள் என்று எண்ண முடியுமா? நூல் என்பது வெறும் பருத்தி நூல்தானே, சிகை என்பது வெறும் முடிதானே. உண்மையில் நூல் என்பது வேதாந்த நூலறிவு. நுண் சிகை ஞானம் என்பது இடகலை, பிங்கலை, சுழுமுனை ஆகிய 3 நாடிகளின் தன்மை அறிந்து, பிரம நாடி சிறக்க தலை உச்சியில் ஞானம் உண்டாவதே. இதுவே அந்தணர் கடைப்பிடிக்க வேண்டிய முறை—என்பார் திருமூலர்.
புத்தர் பேருரை
நீண்ட முடியும் சிகையும் வைத்திருப்பதாலோ, பிராமண குடும்பத்தில் பிறந்ததாலோ ஒருவன் பிராமணன் ஆகிவிடமாட்டான். எவனிடத்தில் சத்யமும் புனிதமும் இருக்கிறதோ அவனே பிராமணன். அவன் ஆனந்தக் கடலில் மிதப்பான் என்று தம்மபதத்தில் (393) புத்தபிரானும் கூறுகிறார்.
புத்தரும் தனது மதத்தினரின் வெளி வேஷங்களை அபோழுதே கண்டித்துள்ளார். அவரது மதம் எப்படித் தேய்ந்துபோகும் என்பதை அவர் பிரதம சீடரான ஆனந்தனுடன் நடத்திய சம்பாஷணையில் கூறினார். அவர் இறந்தவுடன் நடந்த மூன்று மஹா நாடுகளில் வாதப் பிரதிவாதங்கள் விண்ணைப் பிளந்தன. பெண்களைக் கட்டாயம் புத்த மதத்தில் சேர்க்கவேண்டும் என்று ஆனந்தன் மன்றாடியபோது, 1000 ஆண்டுகள் நிலைக்கக்கூடிய என்னுடைய மதம், பெண்களை (புத்த பிட்சுணிகளாக) அனுமதித்தால், 500 ஆண்டுகளே இருக்கும் என்றார் புத்த பிரான்

அபூர்வ தீபாவளி மகான் ஸ்வாமி ராமதீர்த்தர்!

ஒரு தீபாவளி தினத்தன்று தோன்றி இன்னொரு தீபாவளி தினத்தில் சந்யாசம் ஏற்று இன்னும் ஒரு தீபாவளி தினத்தில் ஜல சமாதி எய்திய அபூர்வ வேதாந்த மகான் ஸ்வாமி ராமதீர்த்தர்.
இவர் வாழ்க்கை முழுவதும் ஏராளமான அபூர்வ சம்பவங்கள் நிறைந்துள்ளன. இவரது உபதேச மொழிகள் தனித்தன்மை வாய்ந்தவை.
லாகூரில் அரசுக் கல்லூரியில் கணிதத்தில் முதுகலைப் பட்டம் பெற்ற அவர் ஃபோர்மன் கிறிஸ்துவக் கல்லூரியில் கணிதப் பேராசிரியர் ஆனார் ஆதலால் இவரது உபதேசங்களில் கணிதம் ஆங்காங்கே மின்னி தன் இறைத்தன்மையைக் காட்டும்.
ஸ்வாமி விவேகானந்தரால் உத்வேகம் பெற்று இவரும் அமெரிக்கா சென்று அந்த நாட்டையே பிரமிக்க வைத்தார்.
இவரது உபதேச உரைகள் இன் வுட்ஸ் ஆஃப் காட் ரியலைசேஷன் (IN WOODS OF GOD REALISATION) என்று எட்டுத் தொகுதிகளாக வெளியிடப்பட்டுள்ளன.
இதை ஆழ்ந்து படிப்பவர்கள் வேதாந்தத்தை நன்கு அறிந்து கொள்ள முடியும்.

இவரது வாழ்க்கைத் துளிகள் சில இதோ:
ஸ்வாமி விவேகானந்தர் 1897ம் ஆண்டு லாகூருக்குச் சென்று ஒரு வாரம் அங்கு தங்கி இருந்தார். அவரது சொற்பொழிவுகள் லாகூரையே கவர்ந்தது. ஸ்வாமி ராமதீர்த்தர் அவரைத் தனது இல்லத்திற்கு அழைத்தார். ஸ்வாமிஜி அவரது இல்லத்தில் இருந்த புத்தகங்களைக் கண்டு ஆனந்தம் கொண்டு அதைப் படிக்கலானார்.
அவரது அற்புதமான உரைகளைக் கேட்ட தீர்த்த ராம் – ஆம் அது தான் அவரது இயற் பெயர், சந்யாசம் ஏற்ற பின்னர் அவர் ஸ்வாமி ராமதீர்த்தர் என்று அறியப்படலானார் – ஹிமாலய மலைக் காடுகளின் உள்ளே சென்று தியானம் செய்யலானார்.
பின்னர் சந்யாசம் ஏற்றார். அது ஒரு தீபாவளி தினம். குடும்பத்தை விட்டுப் பிரிந்த அவர் 1902ம் ஆண்டு ஆகஸ்ட் மாதம் 28ம் தேதி கப்பலில் ஜப்பானுக்குப் பயணமானார். அங்கு நடந்த ஹிந்து மத மாநாட்டில் கலந்து கொண்டார். டோக்கியோ கல்லூரியில் வெற்றிக்கான வழி என்ற அவரது உரை அனைவரையும் கவர்ந்தது.
பின்னர் விவேகானந்தர் வழியில் அவர் அமெரிக்காவுக்குப் பயணமானார். கப்பலில் பார்த்தவர் மீதெல்லாம் அவர் அன்பு மழை பொழிந்தார்.
அவர் சான்பிரான்ஸிஸ்கோ அடைந்த போது அவரையே கவனித்து வந்த ஒரு சக பயணி அவரிடம் வந்தார். அவர் ஒரு அமெரிக்கர்.
“சார்! உங்கள் பயண லக்கேஜ் எங்கே? என்று அவர் கேட்டார்.
“நான் எப்போதுமே லக்கேஜ் கொண்டு செல்வதில்லை” என்றார் ஸ்வாமி ராமதீர்த்தர். உண்மையும் அது தான்.
ஆச்சரியம் அடைந்த அந்த அமெரிக்கர், “அப்படியானால் உங்கள் பணத்தை எல்லாம் எங்கே வைப்பீர்கள்?” என்று கேட்டார்.
“நான் பணமே வைத்திருப்பதில்லை” – இப்படி பதில் வந்தது.
“அப்படியானால் எப்படி நீங்கள் வாழ்கிறீர்கள்?”
“நாந்ன் எல்லோர் மீதும் அன்பு செலுத்தி வாழ்ந்து வருகிறேன். எனக்கு தாகம் எடுக்கும் போது எனக்குத் தண்ணீர் தர எப்போதுமே ஒருவர் தயாராக் இருக்கிறார். எனக்குப் பசிக்கும் போதெல்லாம் ரொட்டி தர ஒருவர் தயாராக இருக்கிறார்.”
“அப்படியானால் அமெரிக்காவில் உங்களுக்கு நண்பர்கள் யாரேனும் இருக்கிறார்களா?”
“ஆஹா! இருக்கிறாரே! எனக்கு ஒரு அமெரிக்கரைத் தெரியும். அது நீங்கள் தான்!” இப்படிச் சொல்லியவாறே அவரது தோளைத் தொட்டார் ராமதீர்த்தர்.
அந்த அமெரிக்கர் அயர்ந்து போனார். அந்தக் கணமே அவரது அணுக்கத் தொண்டரானார்.
அவர் பின்னால் எழுதினார் இப்படி:” இமயமலையிலிருந்து வந்த விளக்கு அவர். அது அவரை எரிக்காது. இரும்பு அவரை வெட்டாது. அவரது கண்களிலிருந்து அன்பு வெள்ளம் பெருகும். அவர் எங்கு இருக்கிறாரோ அங்கு புது வாழ்வைத் தரும்.”
சென்ற இடமெல்லாம் உற்சாக வரவேற்பைப் பெற்ற அவர் வேதாந்தத்தை நன்கு விளக்கினார்.
அவருடன் நாத்திகம் பேச வந்த பெண்மணி அவரைப் பார்த்த மாத்திரத்தில் மாறி ஆத்திகரானார்.
அமெரிக்காவில் உள்ள 14444 அடி உயரமுள்ள சாஸ்தா மலையில் அவர் தங்கி இருந்த போது உழைத்துத் தான் சாப்பிடுவேன் என்றார்.
அங்கு மரங்களை வெட்டி அதில் பெற்ற வருமானத்தைக் கொண்டு வாழ்ந்து வந்தார்; பிறரை அதிசயிக்க வைத்தார்.

1873ம் ஆண்டு அக்டோபர் மாதம் 22ம் தேதியன்று தீபாவளியன்று அவர் பிறந்தார்.
1906ம் ஆண்டு அக்டோபர் மாதம் 17ம் நாள் தீபாவளி வந்தது.
கங்கை ஆற்றிலே குளிக்கக் கிளம்பினார் அவர்.
குளிக்கச் செல்லும் முன்னர் ஒரு துண்டுச் சீட்டில் இப்படி எழுதி வைத்தார்:
“ஓ! மரணமே! நிச்சயமாக இந்த உடலைச் சிதற விடு. எனக்குப் பயன்படுத்த ஏராளமான உடல்கள் உள்ளன! அந்த சந்திர ஒளிக்கற்றையின் வெள்ளி இழைகளை நான் அணிந்து கொள்வேன்.
நான் தெய்வீக இசைவாணனாக மலை ஒடைகளிலும் நீரோடைகளிலும் அலைந்து திரிவேன்.”
கங்கையில் இறங்கிய அவர் ஆழத்தில் சென்று அமிழ்ந்தார். ஜல சமாதி எய்தினார்.
வாழ்க்கை முழுவதும் வேதாந்தத்தைப் பரப்பிய அவரது உரைகளைப் படிப்பது ஒருவரது பாக்கியவசத்தினால் தான் என்று உறுதியாகச் சொல்ல முடியும்!
