Most celebrated battle in Sangam Tamil literature is Thalaliaalnkaanam battle. Pandya King Neduncheziyan defeated Chera, Choza and five chieftains. It is sung in over 13 poems.
Puranānūru 18, 19, 23, 24, 25, 26, 76, 77, 78, 79, 371 and 372 were written for this king, who wrote poem 72
பாண்டியன் தலையாலங்கானத்துச் செருவென்ற நெடுஞ்செழியன் சேரனையும் சோழனையும் (சேரமான் யானைக்கட்சேய் மாந்தரஞ்சேரல் இரும்பொறை, சோழன் கிள்ளிவளவன்), ஐந்து வேளிர் குறுநில மன்னர்களையும் (திதியன், எழினி, எருமையூரன், இருங்கோ வேண்மான், பொருநன்) சோழ நாட்டில் உள்ள தலையாலங்கானத்தில் தோற்கடித்தான்.

There is a big difference in the wars fought in previous Yugas and Kaliyuga. Ramayana and Mahabharata show us Dharma Yuddha where people were not killed or villages, towns and houses were not targeted.
Tamils are very clear about the destructions that happened in wars. They cut down the Totem trees in every place and set fire to the houses. We may guess that people ran away and escaped.

Mankudi Kizar used UNTHU for UM in three verbs. We don’t see such forms after Sangam age. But it is allowed by Tolkappiam
உந்து (பாயுந்து, தூங்குந்து, தரூஉந்து) – உம் உந்தாகும் இடனுமார் உண்டே (தொல்காப்பியம், இடையியல் 44).

you crushed them and took their drums tied with straps.
But O Chezhiyan! The joints of your spear were saved
from breaking and shattering being hurled at
enemies around you, when you saw the women with bright
brows, anguished widows, losing their senses and beating
their full breasts and making them warm, wailing endlessly,
cutting off their pretty, thick, dark hair as bright as sand!
