INTERESTING STORY

A wealthy merchant went on a business trip. A thief in the disguise of a businessman joined him, intent on robbing him at the earliest suitable occasion. Every morning, before leaving the inn which they happened to have put up for the night, the merchant would count his money quite openly and then put it into his pocket. At night the merchant went to sleep seemingly without suspicion. While he was asleep the thief would frantically search through all the belongings of the merchant without being able to find the money. After several nights of frustrating searching, the thief finally in resignation confessed to the merchant his true intention and pleaded with him to tell him how he was able to hide his money so successfully. The merchant replied casually: ‘I knew from the very beginning what you were up to. So, every night I placed the money under YOUR pillow. I could safely sleep, knowing full well that that would be the one place where you would never look.’

God is within everyone, but man goes out in search of Him. This is what constitutes God’s Play and God’s Creation.

மாலைமலர் ஆடி மாத அம்மன் வரிசைத் தொடரில் 25-7-2023 அன்று பிரசுரிக்கப்பட்ட கட்டுரை. இரு பகுதிகளாக இங்கு பிரசுரிக்கப்படுகிறது.

சாமுண்டி பெயர் காரணம்

தேவி  சும்ப நிசும்பர்கள் என்ற அரக்கர்களையும் வதம் செய்தாள். அந்த அரக்கர்களின் சேனாதிபதிகளான சண்ட முண்டர்களையும் வதைத்ததால் சாமுண்டி என்ற பெயரைப் பெற்றாள். தேவி பாகவதம் ஐந்தாம் ஸ்கந்தம் 26ஆம் அத்தியாயம் கோரமாக நடந்த சண்ட முண்டர்களுடனான தேவியின் கோர யுத்தத்தை வர்ணிக்கிறது.

சாமுண்டி தேவி 64 யோகினிகளில் ஒரு யோகினியாக அருள் சக்தியுடன் விளங்குகிறார். ஒரிஸாவில் புவனேஸ்வரில் 64 யோகினிகளுக்கான கோவில் உள்ளது. இங்கு சாமுண்டாவின் சிலை உள்ளது.

ப்ரஹ்மி, வைஷ்ணவி, மஹேஸ்வரி, குமாரி, வராஹி, ஐந்திரி, சாமுண்டா என்ற சப்த மாதர்களில் ஒருவர் சாமுண்டி  தேவி.

சாமுண்டி ஆன்மீக சக்தியை வெளிக் கொணரும் மஹா சக்தியாக வர்ணிக்கப்படுகிறாள்.

தேவியின் பிரதிநிதியாக ஆண்ட மைசூர் மன்னர்கள்

மைசூர் உடையார் மன்னர்களின் குல தெய்வம் சாமுண்டீஸ்வரி.

மன்னனைக் காத்த அம்மனின் அருள் பற்றிய வரலாறு ஒன்று உண்டு.

நானூறு ஆண்டுகளுக்கு முன்னர் மைசூரை நான்காம் சாம்ராஜ உடையார் ஆண்டு வந்தார். அவர் சாமுண்டீஸ்வரியை தரிசனம் செய்து திரும்பும் போது மழை பெய்யவே, ஒரு மரத்தடியில் பல்லக்கு

நிறுத்தப்பட்டு அவர் கீழே இறங்கினார். மலை உச்சியை நோக்கி அவர் வேண்ட நினைத்த போது கோவில் சரியாகத் தெரியாததால் அங்கிருந்து நகர்ந்து தள்ளிச் சென்று கோவிலை தரிசனம் செய்தார். அதே சமயம் பல்லக்கு இருந்த மரத்தின் மீது மின்னலுடன் இடி விழ அது எரிந்து சாம்பலானது. தன் உயிரைக் காத்த அம்மனுக்கு அவர் நன்றி தெரிவிக்கும் வண்ணம் கோவிலைச் சிறப்புற விரிவாக்கினார்.

மன்னர் அம்மனுக்கு சமர்ப்பித்த காணிக்கையும் விசேஷமான ஒன்றாக அமைந்தது. தங்கக் காசுகளால் அமைந்த நக்ஷத்திர மாலிகா என்ற காசுமாலையை அவர் அம்மனுக்குக் காணிக்கையாகச் செலுத்தினார்.

அதில் சம்ஸ்கிருதத்தில் அமைந்துள்ள முப்பது ஸ்லோகங்கள் தேவியைப் போற்றுகின்றன.

கோவிலின் அமைப்பு

கோவில் அமைப்பு சிறப்புற அமைக்கப்பட்டுள்ள ஒன்றாகும். ராஜ கோபுரம் ஏழு நிலைகளைக் கொண்டுள்ளது. நவரங்க மண்டபம், அந்தராளம், பிரகாரம், கர்ப்பகிருஷம் என நாற்கர வடிவில் இது உள்ளது.

கோவிலின் கோபுர வாயிலில் கண்பதி அருள் பாலிக்க இருபுறமும் துவாரபாலகர்கள் உள்ளனர்.

கருவறையின் முன்னே கொடிமரம், அம்மனின் பாதம் நந்தி ஆகியவை அமைந்துள்ளன. சந்நிதியின் வலப்புறம் பைரவர் இருக்க வாயிலில் நந்தினி மற்றும் கமலினி ஆகியோர் துவாரபாலகியராக உள்ளனர்.

எட்டுக் கரங்களுடன் சாமுண்டி அம்மன் அருள் பாலிக்கிறார்.

ஶ்ரீ சக்கரம்

இங்குள்ள ஶ்ரீ சக்கரம் குறிப்பிடத்தகுந்த ஒன்றாகும்.

6” x 6” x 6” என்ற அளவில் பஞ்ச தாதுக்களால் அமைக்கப்பட்ட யந்திரம் இது. இன்னொரு பூப்ரஸ்தார சக்கரமும்  6” x 6” என்ற அளவில் 1964ஆம் ஆண்டு அமைக்கப்பட்டு நிறுவப்பட்டது. தங்கத்தினாலான இந்த சக்கரம் 60 தோலா எடையுள்ளது. சாமுண்டியின் பீடத்தில்  தேவியின் பாதங்களுக்கு அருகே இவை ஸ்தாபிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளன.

சகல தோஷங்களையும் போக்கி நலன்களை அருள்வது ஶ்ரீ சக்கரம் என்பது குறிப்பிடத் தகுந்தது.

மகிஷனின் சிலை

சாமுண்டி மலையில் உள்ள பிரம்மாண்டமான நந்தியைப் போலவே இங்குள்ள மகிஷாசுரனின் சிலையும் பிரம்மாண்டமான ஒன்று. இது மேற்கு நோக்கிச் செல்லும் மலைப்பாதையில் அமைந்துள்ளது. வலது கையில் தலைக்கும் மேலே தூக்கிப் பிடித்த பெரிய வாளையும் இடது கையில் படம் எடுக்கும் நாகப் பாம்பையும் ஏந்தியவாறு அச்சுறுத்தும் பார்வையுடன் மகிஷனின் சிலை அமைந்துள்ளது.

பிரச்சினைகளைப் போக்கும் தெய்வம்

இங்கு வந்து வழிபடுவோரின் பிரச்சினைகள் திர்ந்து விடும்.குறிப்பாக கணவன் – மனைவி உறவில் ஏற்படும் பிரச்சினைகள் உடனடியாகத் தீரும் என்பது ஐதீகம்.

சாமுண்டீஸ்வரியை பக்தர்கள் அனைவரும் விமரிசையாக நவராத்திரி –  – தசரா -விழாவில் கொண்டாடி வருகின்றனர். ஆயிரக் கணக்கில் பக்தர்கள் திரள, வண்ண மின் விளக்குகள் ஒளிர, அம்மன் யானை மீது சிம்மாசனத்தில் அமர்ந்து பவனி வருகிறாள்.

மிகச் சிறப்பாக நடக்கும் இந்தத் திருவிழாவில் கலை நிகழ்ச்சிகளும் உண்டு.

மன்னர் மற்றும் மக்கள் என அனைவருக்குமான தெய்வமாகத் தொன்று தொட்டு இருந்து வரும் சாமுண்டீஸ்வரி தனது அருளால் அனைவரையும் நல்வழிப்படுத்தி சகல நலங்களையும் தந்து வருவது கண்கூடு.

Before Pre Pagan dynasty, there were four important kingdoms:

Ramanna Desa – Mon Kingdom

Sri Lankan chronicles and Burmese inscriptions give important details.

Mon language inscriptions give us names as

Haripunjaya – Lamphun

Lavo – Lob puri

Ayuththaya – Ayodhya

Kshikittara – Sri Kshetra

Hamsavati – Pegu

Phanrang- Paanduranga

All Sanskrit names ; but they are spread over Cambodia, Thailand and Burma/Myanmar.

The Glass Palace Chronicle gives the name Jeya Simha as Zeyatheinkha.

Sanskrit names are corrupted beyond recognition.

The name of many other Hindu settlements in lower Burma are known from inscriptions and literature. Thus we have Ramaavati, Asitanjana Nagara near Rangoon, Kusima Nagar or Mandala, RAAMPURA, Mullimanadala They are collectively known as RAMANNADESA.

The kingdom of Dvaaraavati in the valley of Menam was also a Mon Kingdom. Most important city was LAVA PURI (Lob Puri)

We have already seen Pegu was called Hamsavati and Pagan was called Ari Mardhana Pura.

Pure Sanskrit wrds were used for Kings, Queens and Cities.

Rama, Lava, Kusa remind us of RAMAYANA.

VIKRAMA kings

At Prome in Burma/Myanmar, legends in Pyu language engraved on Royal funerary urns give us the name of three kings. The date is around 638 CE.

688- Death of Surya Vikrama – age 64

695- Death of Hari Vikrama – age 41

718- Death of Sihaa Vikrama – age 44

We know from elsewhere the names of Prabhu Varman, Jeyachandra Varman.

Another inscription says elder brother of Hari Vikraman was Jeyachandra Varman

Kyanziththa died in1112 CE. His correct name was Jnana siddha. His son name was Raja Kumara. His other’s name Queen Tri Loka vatamsika (Burmese corrupted it as U Sauk Pan).

Sithu means the victorious hero = Siddha

The Glass Palace Chronicle claims that Narapatisiththu or Jeya Sura became king at Pagan in 1173 after the murder of his elder brother Naratheinka (Correct name Narasimha)

Jayasimha name is corrupted to Htilominlo in Chinese and Zeyyatheinkha in Burmese.

If one looks at all the names with their family names, one can easily get the correct name.

Narasimha is the only Avatar name clearly mentioned in Burma.

40 kings Missing

The Burmese Chronicles, which place the foundation of Pagaan at 108 CE, give a list of forty kings. But they are unknown to history.

Kalhana , author of Raja Tarangini of Kashmir, also gives a missing list like this regarding Kashmir.

KING KILLED BY 8 INDIANS

One interesting episode is in Glass Palace Chronicle.

Indians were called Kala, corruption of Kula (English word clan is derived from this Sanskrit word.) The meaning is they belong to Higer clan/cultured.

Narathuu (1167-1171) CE

Narathu was known by two names:

King killed by eight Indians (kaalagya);

Imitaw Syaan (Lord of the Royal House)

Actually he was killed by Eight Sinhalese sent by Parakrama Bahu, King of Sri Lanka. He was angry because Burmese interfered in his commercial activities with Cambodia.

Earlier Minshinsaw attacked Narathu to revenge his father’s murder. But Narathu escaped by calling his brother to ascend the throne. Panthagu, the elder son of a dealer in almsbowls, was worshipped like lord by the people of Pagaan. Narathu sought his help . But Narathu later poisoned him to death.

Narathu was a cruel ruler according to the Glass Palace Chronicle. His ministers and his people stood in fear and awe before him. He also slew his close relatives. He killed his wife who was the daughter of Kala King (not Indian but Sri Lankan according to historians).

The names in the above episode are interesting. Though the Chronicle exaggerated many things, Sri Lankan names are in it. Further research may reveal that Tamils are also involved in it. Velu Vati is one example.

சுமார் 700 ஆண்டு வரலாறுடையது நந்தலிகே மஹாலிங்கேஸ்வர கோவில். இது துளுவ நாட்டு பாணியில் அமைந்த கோவில் .சிவன், கணபதி சந்நிதிகளுடன் நிறைய தெய்வங்களுக்கு தனித்தனி கர்ப்பக்கிரகங்கள் இருக்கின்றன. அருகில் குடும்பத்தை நிர்வகிக்கும் ஹக்கடே முதலியோரின் அரண்மனை போன்ற வீடுகள் அப்படியே பாதுகாத்து வைக்கப்பட்டுள்ளன. ஆண்டு தோறும் நடைபெறும் சிறி (Siri Jhatre) யாத்திரையில் (விழாவில்) கிறிஸ்தவர்களும் கலந்து கொள்ளுகின்றனர். கன்னடக் கவிஞர் முத்தண்ணாவின் நினைவுச் சின்னமும் இங்கு உளது . பாரதியாரைப் போல இளம் வயதில் இறந்தவர், வறுமையில் வாடியவர். யக்ஷகான கவிஞர்.

70.உடுப்பி ஸ்ரீ கிருஷ்ணன் கோவில் Udupi Sri Krishna Temple

உடுப்பி எங்கே உள்ளது?

அரபிக் கடல் ஓரமாக அமைந்த கோவில் நகரம் இது. மங்களூரிலிருந்து 60 கிலோமீட்டர்; பெங்களூரிலிருந்து 381 கிலோமீட்டர்.

த்வைத மத ஸ்தாபகரான மத்வரால் உருவாக்கப்பட்ட ஸ்ரீ கிருஷ்ணன் கோவில் 800 ஆண்டுகளாக அருள் மழை பெய்து வருகிறது.

உடுப்பியில் ஒரு ஜன்னல் வழியாகத்தான் கண்ணபிரானைத் தரிசிக்கவேண்டும். அற்புதமான நகைகளை அணிந்த கிருஷ்ணன், ஒரு அறைக்குள் ஏன் இப்படி ஒளிந்து கொண்டு இருக்கிறார்? ஏன் என்றால், கனக தாசர் என்ற கீழ் ஜாதி பக்தர் கோவிலுக்கு வந்தபோது அக்கால வழக்கப்படி அவருக்கு உள்ளே செல்ல அனுமதி மறுக்கப்பட்டது. இறைவனுக்குத்தான் ஜாதிகள் கிடையாதே? உடனே கனகதாசர் இருந்த திசையை நோக்கித் திரும்பி ஜன்னல் வழியே காட்சிதந்தார். இன்று நாம் போனாலும் கூட அதே கனகதாசர் ஜன்னல் வாயில் வழியாகத்தான் கிருஷ்ணனைத் தரிசிக்க வேண்டும்.

இரண்டாவது அதிசயச் செய்தி மத்வர் காலத்தில் நடந்தது. அவர் கடற்கரையில் பிரார்த்தனையில் ஈடுபட்டிருந்தார் அப்போது தொலைவில் வந்துகொண்டிருந்த ஒரு கப்பல், பாறையுள்ள பகுதியை நோக்கிச் சென்று கொண்டிருந்தது. அதைக் கண்ட மத்வர், பெரும் ஆபத்தைத் தடுப்பதற்காக, தன் மேல் துண்டை ஆட்டி எச்சரித்தார். கப்பலும் பிழைத்தது.மாலுமி எவ்வளவோ விலை உயர்ந்த பொருட்களை கொடுக்க முன்வந்தான். ஆயினும் கப்பலில் உள்ள மஞ்ச ள் நிற பாறைகளை மட்டும் மத்வர் எடுத்தார். அதற்குள் பலராமன் ,கிருஷ்ணன் சிலைகள் இருந்தன. அவை இரண்டு இடங்களில் தனித்தடியே பிரதிஷ்டை செய்யப்பட்டன.

மூன்றாவது முக்கியச் செய்தி என்னவென்றால் உடுப்பி கோவிலைச் சுற்றி எட்டு புனித மடங்கள் இருக்கின்றன. அவற்றின் தலைவர்கள் இரண்டு ஆண்டுக்கு ஒரு முறை கோவில் பொறுப்பை சுழற்சி முறையில்  ஏற்கின்றனர்.

மத்வர் பிறந்த பஜக(Pajaka)  அருகிலேயே உள்ளது . உடுப்பியிலிருந்து 12 கி.மீ.

உடுப்பியிலிருந்து ஆறு கி.மீ தொலைவில் கல்யான் பூரில் கெஞ்சம்மா, வீரபத்ரர், மகாலிங்கேஸ்வரர், கணபதி, வேங்கடரமணா கோவில்கள் இருக்கின்றன

உடுப்பியிலிருந்து 13 கி.மீ தொலைவில் பிரம்மவரம்  என்னும் இடத்தில் ஒன்பதாம் நூற்றாண்டைச் சேர்ந்த கோவில்கள் மஹாலிங்க கோவில், கோபிநாத் கோவில், ஜனார்த்தன கோவில்கள் உள்ளன

இவற்றில் ஹொய்சாளர் பாணியில் அமைந்த கோபிநாதர் கோவில் சிறப்புடையது  பிராமணர்கள் ஊர் என்பதால் இப்பெயர். சீதா, சுனா ஆகிய இரண்டு நதிகளுக்கு இடையே ஊர் உளது.

சாலிக்ராம யோக நரசிம்மர் கோவில் Saligrama Narasimha Temple

இது சாலிக்ராம கல்லால் ஆனா நரசிம்மர். இங்கு மஹா கணபதி யந்திரத்தின் மீது நரசிம்மர் அமர்ந்துள்ளார்.

உடுப்பி நகரிலிருந்து 20 கிமீ தொலைவு. குரு நரசிம்மர் என்ற பெயரும் உண்டு

71.ஆனகுட்ட விநாயகர் கோவில் Anegudde Vinayaka Temple

மங்களூரு நகரிலிருந்து சுமார் 100 கி.மீ.குந்தாப்பூரிலிருந்து 9 கி.மீ தொலைவில் மிகவும் பிரசித்திபெற்ற ஆன குட்டே (யானை மலை) பிள்ளையார் கோவில் இருக்கிறது

பரசுராம சிருஷ்டி என்று அழைக்கப்படும் ஏழு புனிதத் தலங்களில் இதுவும் ஒன்று. இந்த இடம் கும்பாஷி என்றும் சொல்லப்படுகிறது அகஸ்தியர் தவம் செய்தபோது கும்பாசுரன் இடையூறு செய்ததாகவும் அப்போது அவரை த்வம்சம் செய்த இடம் என்பதாலும் இந்தப்பெயர் ஏற்பட்டது.

மாலைமலர் ஆடி மாத அம்மன் வரிசைத் தொடரில் 25-7-2023 அன்று பிரசுரிக்கப்பட்ட கட்டுரை. இரு பகுதிகளாக இங்கு பிரசுரிக்கப்படுகிறது.

இல்லற பிரச்சினைகளைத் தீர்க்கும் மைசூர் சாமுண்டீஸ்வரி

மைசூர் சாமுண்டீஸ்வரி ஆலயம் 

இன்றைய கர்நாடக மாநிலத்தில், மைசூரில் உள்ள சாமுண்டி மலையில் அமைந்துள்ள சாமுண்டீஸ்வரி ஆலயம் பிரபலமான 18 மஹா சக்தி பீடங்களில் ஒன்றாக இலங்குகிறது

மிகப் பழமை வாய்ந்த இந்தக் கோவிலில் குடிகொண்டு அருள்பாலிக்கும் சாமுண்டி தேவி தனது பிரதிநிதியாக மைசூரை ஆண்டு வந்த மன்னர்களை நியமித்து அறநெறி வழியில் அவர்களை ஆட்சி செய்ய வழி காட்டி வந்த தெய்வம்.

சாமுண்டியை மைசூர் ராஜ்யத்தின் காவல் தெய்வமாக அனைவரும் வழிபட்டு வந்தனர்; வருகின்றனர்.

 தன்னை அண்டி வந்த சகல மக்களுக்கும் அவர்கள் வேண்டிய நல்ல காரியங்கள் அனைத்தையும் நிறைவேற்றித் தரும் சக்தி வாய்ந்த அம்மனாக இன்று வரை இலங்குகிறாள் சாமுண்டி.

கிரௌஞ்ச பீடம்

சாமுண்டீஸ்வரி அம்மனின் கோவில் மைசூரிலிருந்து சுமார் 12 கிலோமீட்டர் தொலைவில் உள்ளது.

சாமுண்டி மலையின் உச்சியில் சுமார் 3000 அடி உயரத்தில் அமைக்கப்பட்டுள்ள சாமுண்டீஸ்வரி ஆலயம் கிரௌஞ்ச பீடம் என்று அழைக்கப்படுகிறது.

மஹாநந்தி

இந்த மலையின் மீது அமைந்திருக்கும் கோவிலுக்குச் செல்ல  ஆயிரம் படிக்கட்டுகள் அமைக்கப்பட்டுள்ளன.

இதில் 800வது படிக்கட்டில் ஒரு சிறு சிவன் கோவில் உள்ளது. சிவபிரானுக்கு எதிரில்  அமைந்திருக்கும் நந்தி மாபெரும் நந்தியாகும். கருங்கல்லினால் அமைக்கப்பட்டிருக்கும் இந்த நந்தி சிலை 15 அடி உயரம் உள்ளது. 24 அடி நீளம் உள்ளது.

பெரியகோயில் என்று அழைக்கப்படும் தஞ்சை பிருஹதீஸ்வரர் ஆலயத்தில் உள்ள நந்தி ஒரே கல்லினால் அமைக்கப்பட்ட ஒன்றாகும். இதன் நீளம் சுமார் 16 அடி. உயரம் சுமார் 13 அடி.

ஆக, நாட்டின் உள்ள நந்திகளில் பெரிய நந்தியைக் கொண்டுள்ளது சாமுண்டீஸ்வரி ஆலயம்.

12ஆம் நூற்றாண்டில் ஹொய்சாள வம்ச மன்னர்களால் இந்த ஆலயம் அமைக்கப்பட்டது.

பின்னர் இந்த கோவிலுக்கான கோபுரத்தை விஜயநகர சாம்ராஜ்ய மன்னர் 17ஆம் நூற்றாண்டில் கட்டினார்.

மகாபல கிரி

மகாபல கிரி என்று அழைக்கப்பட்ட இந்த மலையில்  மகாபலேஷ்வர் என்ற பெயரில் சிவபெருமான் ஆலயம் ஒன்றும் உள்ளது. இது மிகப் புராதனமானது. இந்த ஆலயத்தில் உள்ள கணபதி மற்றும் ஆஞ்சநேயர் சுயம்பு மூர்த்திகள்.

முன்பொரு காலத்தில் மகாபலேஸ்வரர் ஆலயமும் சாமுண்டீஸ்வரி ஆலயமும் ஒரே மதில் சுவருக்குள் அமைந்திருந்தது. பின்னால் சாமுண்டீஸ்வரியின் தேர் பவனிக்காக ஆலயங்கள் பிரிக்கப்பட்டு தேர் செல்லும் பாதை தனியே அமைக்கப்பட்டது.

சுயம்பு லிங்கமாக உருவாகியுள்ள மகாபலேஸ்வரர் சாமுண்டீஸ்வரி கோவிலுக்கு வலது புறம் உள்ள ஆலயத்தில் இருந்து அருள் பாலித்து வருகிறார்.

மகிஷாசுர வதம்

சாமுண்டி தேவியைப் பற்றி ஸ்கந்த புராணமும் மார்க்கண்டேய புராணமும், தேவி பாகவதமும் விவரிக்கின்றன.

முன்னொரு காலத்தில் மைசூர் பிரதேசத்தை மகிஷாசுரன் என்ற அசுரன் ஆண்டு வந்தான். அவன் சிவபிரானை நோக்கிக் கடும் தவம் புரிந்து அவர் அருளைப் பெற்றான். தனக்கு சாகா வரம் வேண்டும் என்று அவன் கேட்க சிவபிரான் அவனிடம் அவனுக்கு ஆண்கள், விலங்குகள், நீர் ஆகியவற்றால் மரணம் ஏற்படாதிருக்க வரத்தை அருளினார்.

இதனால் மகிழ்ச்சி அடைந்த மகிஷாசுரன் தனக்கு மரணமே இல்லை என்ற மமதையில் அனைவரையும் கொடுமைப்படுத்தி வந்தான்.

இதனால் தேவர்கள் மிகவும் தொல்லைக்குள்ளாகவே அவர்கள் சிவபிரானை அணுகி தங்களைக் காக்குமாறு வேண்டினர். சிவபிரானும் மனம் கனிந்து அவர்களிடம் இதற்காக தேவியை அணுகுமாறு கூறினார்.

பார்வதி தேவியை அணுகிய தேவர்கள் தங்கள் நிலையைத் தெரிவிக்க, தேவி அவர்களிடம் அஞ்ச வேண்டாம் என்று கூறி தாமே சாமுண்டியாக அவதரிப்பதாக உறுதி கூறினார்.

அதன்படியே ஆடி மாதம் மூன்றாவது வெள்ளிக்கிழமை சாமுண்டியாக மைசூரில் அவதரித்தார்.

மகிஷனுடன் உக்கிரமாகப் போர் புரிந்த சாமுண்டி தேவி அவனை வதம் செய்தார்.

தேவியின் உக்கிரத்தைத் தாங்க முடியாத மகிஷாசுரன் அங்கும் இங்கும் அலைந்து திரிந்து கடைசியில் சப்தமி திதி, மூல நட்சத்திரத்துடன் கூடிய திங்கள்கிழமை அன்று சாமுண்டி மலைக்கு ஓடி வந்து அம்மனின் திருப்பாதங்களில் சரண் அடைய அவனது தலையைத் துண்டித்தாள் அம்மன். அவனைத் தனது பாதங்களில் ஐக்கியப்படுத்த அனைவரும் மகிஷனின் வதத்தால் மகிழ்ந்தனர்.

மகிஷன் வதம் செய்யப்பட்ட பின், தேவர்கள் தேவியின் உக்கிரத்தைத் தணித்து சாந்தப்படுத்தினர்.

மார்க்கண்டேய மஹரிஷி தேவிக்கு எட்டு கரங்களுடனான வடிவத்தை இங்கு அமைத்தார். அன்றிலிருந்து இன்று வரை அம்மன் அங்கிருந்து அருளாட்சி செய்து வருகிறார்.

மகிஷனின் நினைவாக மகிஷாவூர் என்று அழைக்கப்பட்ட இந்த ஊர் காலப்போக்கில் மருவி மைசூர் என்று இப்போது அழைக்கப்பட்டு வருகிறது.

மார்க்கண்டேயரின் ஆசிரமும் இந்தப் பகுதியில் உள்ளது. மார்க்கண்டேயர் கடும் தவத்தை இங்கு மேற்கொண்டதை புராணங்கள் சித்தரிக்கின்றன. இங்குள்ள சிவலிங்கம் பக்தர்களால் விசேஷமாக வழிபடப்படுகிறது.

Second Part

Hindu literature called Burma, SWARNA BHUMI (Land of Gold) which is a pure Sanskrit word.

Vaisali is a town Rakhine region  (Also known as Arkan). It was the capital of Candra dynasty and whose origins dates back to fourth century CE.

Burmese got this name from Vaisali in Bihar in India. Vaisali of Bihar is closely connected with Buddha’s life because he took his FIRST training from his teacher RAMA PUTRA there.

Kala in Burma is used for Kula  in Sanskrit.

Tamil Connection

A number of inscriptions, about thirty, have been discovered in Burma. Following are important ones:

Scholars say that all inscriptions in S E Asia have the script derived from Pallavas. Pallava surname VARMAN is found in Burma.

About some inscriptions in Prome, Prof. Wales says one Sanskrit inscription is in Gupta script.

An inscription engraved on the pedestal of a Buddha image composed in Sanskrit verses show the existence of a ruler named Jaichandra Varman. Dr R C Majumdhar, a great authority on S E Asian History, says the script and style of the image resemble those of eastern India of about 7^th century CE.

We also find mention of Prabhu Varman , Prabhu Devi in a Pyu inscription on a stupa. According to Hall the name Varman indicates the possibility of Pallava influence from Kanchipuram.

Tamil Name Queen Veluvati

After the murder of Narasimha( in Burmese Naratheinka) Narapati Siddha became king. He was anointed with his queen Veluvati. He introduced Cylonese Buddhism replacing the Burmese Buddhism.

This Sri Lankan connection shows Veluvati was a Sri Lankan Tamil. We have to do more research.

Two gold plates and three fragments of a stone Inscription, a small votive stupa and a gold leaf manuscript were discovered at Hmawza. All of these have Pali language matter in a script very closely allied to Canara- Telugu script of 6^th or 7^th centuries CE.

This shows Andhra-Kalinga/Orissa and Tamil Nadu connection with Burma .

About the early kings of Burma we have no information other than their names

Following kings ruled Burma nearly 2000 years ago.

Thamodarrit- Founder of the dynasty- 152 CE

Yathe kyaung – 152-167 CE

Pyusawti – 167- 242 CE

Htiminyi – 242-299

Yinminpaik 299-324

Paitthili – 324-344

Thinlikyaung – 344-387

Kyaungdurit 387- 412

THIHTAN 412-439

MOKHAMAN and THUYE-412-439

These last two names sound like Tamils. In Sri Lanka also we see Tamils seizing power for some time

The Mons

The first people in Burma to leave definite traces of their settlement were Mons. They were close cousins of Khmers (of Cambodia) and they came down the Me Kong river. The correct name of Me Kong is Ma Ganga ( Ganga Maathaa). If you look at Sri Lankan rivers, you can see the Ganga suffix with important rivers. Wherever Hindus migrated or whoever is influenced by Hindu culture used all Hindu names like Ganga, Go(cow), Devi (goddess), Deva (god) Indra (leader) Rama and Krishna.

Mons occupied many areas of Thailand and Burma by 3^rd century CE. Their country was called Ramanna Desa.

The Mons is not extinct but under the name of Talaing retains some distinction yet. In the first part we saw them as the people of Telengana.

Mons called themselves Rmen (Raman??). it is found in an inscription of Burmese King Kyaziththa1102 CE (correct name is Jnana Siddha). From its medieval form Rmen or Ramen comes Ramanna and the name Ramanna Desha given by Arab geographers.

Buddhism of Theravada variety was the prevailing religion in the Mon regions

The Pyus

The Pyus were completely absorbed and merged in the Burmese population. Their capital was SRI KSHETRA. It is described as a great walled city of 12 gates with a pagoda at each of the four corners. The word Sri Kshetra got corrupted in Burmese as Tharahkittara!!!

Hindu and Buddhist sculptures are seen in the area.

The Pyu script is like South Indian script. Thanks to the discovery of a “Rosetta Stone” in Burma with four languages, Pyu language was deciphered. The four languages are Pali, Pyu, Mon, Burmese. it was on a pillar of Myazedi, south of Pagan. Buddha.

Before Pre Pagan dynasty, there were four important kingdoms:

Pyu Kingdom – Sri Kshetra

Ramanna Desa – Mon Kingdom

Arakan Kingdom-

Kingdom of Mrammas
