Cooked rice in small quantity is needed to place in the Homa fire with ghee.

Naivedya (Prasad food); for Ganapati Homa , Modaka is a must.
Dry fruits , nuts = almonds, cashew nuts, pistachio, sultanas .

At the of all good rituals Arti is taken for the family members. So you need coins for the Aarti plates) .Coins may be required to put in the metal pot (Purna Kumba) and Arti plate. It is a tradition to give some money for the two ladies who do the Arti.

Rangoli Powder (Tamils use Rice flour to decorate the floor).
Wooden seat/ Plank or mat for the priests to sit.

Swich of the Smoke alarm before you start the Puja (also mobile phones)
Most of the things are available in every home. If you celebrate outside the house, for example in a Mandap or a hall or a temple, you have to take all these things in different boxes, properly labelled.
Scissors and Jute threads or cotton threads will be useful to tie certain things.
Paper, pencil, pen to write down the names, birth stars, Gotra names for the Sankalpa (Sanklapa is the vow made before starting a Puja or a Havan to declare the names and Nakshatras and the purpose of the Puja or Havan)
Extra metal plates and Cups/Kalasas will be useful.
If you are making and distributing Prasad, you may need extra plastic plates, cups and spoons.
MOST OF THE HINDUS AVOID ONION, GARLIC, MASALA INGREDIENTS ON PUJA DAYS. NON VEGETARIAN DISHES ALSO PROHIBITED. EVEN BIRTH DAY CAKES ARE MADE EGGLESS.
