Dwaraka in Gujarat is the last of the Seven Holy Cities called Spata Puri.
Krishna walked 800 miles with the Yadavas from Brindhavan, Mathura in Uttar Pradesh to Dwaraka in Gujarat fearing the tyrant Jarasandhan. Later Krishna killed him.
In the history of Dwaraka we have the world’s largest Exodus older than the Exodus in the Bible.
In the history of Dwaraka we have the world’s largest Tsunami that drowned Dwaraka.
Marine archaeologists have found out the underwater Dwaraka confirming our Puranic accounts.
Along with submerged Dwaraka, Indus-Sarasvati Valley seals are also discovered near Dwaraka, which proved that is one of the oldest cities like Kasi. Mahabharata which is at least as old as 3102 BCE Kaliyuga links Kasi the oldest city in the world with Dwaraka. (Remember Amba Ambalika Ambika story of Bhisma)

Fanatic Muslim destroyed the original temple.
According to tradition, the original temple Dwaraka was built by Krishna’s grandson, Vajranabha, over the hari-griha (Krishna’s residential place). The original structure was destroyed by fanatic muslim looter Mahmud Begada in 1472.
Adi Shankara , the greatest of the World Philosophers, established one of his four Mutts here ; he was the one who established four mutts in four corners of India. This torpedoed fools’ argument that India was united by foreigners.
Like Parasurama established a colony in Kerala, Krishna started a colony in Dwaraka in Gujarat. Both used the land reclaimed from the sea.

Dwarkadhish Temple (Jagat Mandir),
Krishna’s temple here is called Dwarkadhish temple
The Sanskrit proverbial saying is AS LONG AS THE SUN AND MOON EXIST. It is shown in the Dwraka temple flag with sun and moon symbols. The temple spire is 256 feet tall, probably the highest in India. The flag is 50 feet long and changed four times every day. Devotees offer money for it.
The temple has two entrances. The name Dwaraka meant entrance to Swarga or Gateway to Heaven. It was proved by Krishna’s death nearby and Saint Poetess Meerabai’s merger with God in this place.
The temple stands on a small hill accessed by 50 plus steps, with heavily sculptured walls that cocoon the sanctum with the main Krishna idol. Around the complex lie other smaller shrines.
River Gomati merges with the Arabian sea here
Bet Dwaraka, an island is nearby, is the place where Krishna lived in a palace. Now there is a temple which can be reached by boat from Okha.
Guru Vallabhacharya built a temple here. Apart from the main temple of Krishna, others in the complex commemorate Hanuman, Vishnu, Shiva, Lakshmi Narayan, Jambavati, Devi and others. Bet Dwarka is known by the name of ‘Antardvipa’.
Porbandar and Jamnagar are closest airports to Dwaraka.

Krishna’s Death
Krishna died at the age of 120 in a place called Bhalka near Veraval on west coast. He was shot by a hunter called Jara , who mistook him for some animal. When Arjuna and others came there, they saw only dead bodies of Krishna and Balrama. Both were cremated there. But the mystery about the cremation is that Krishna’s heart did not become ash. It was taken to Puri and kept there. As there is no heart in Puri now, one should not take it literally. Krishna is in sleeping pose under the Peepal tree here
Like Vraj Bhumi in Uttar Pradesh, there is a huge circuit of Krishna Leela here. Earlier part of his life was in Uttar Pradesh and later part of his life was spent here in Gujarat.
It is amazing to see his activities in these two states and Kurukshetra in Haryana .

Tsunamis in India
Dwaraka went into sea during a Tsunami before 1000 BCE .We saw Dhanushkodi in Tamil Nadu going under sea in our own time in one of the Tsunamis. Sangam Tamil literature also mentioned two Tsuamis which devoured two Pandyan capitals 2000 years ago.
Five great Tamil Vaishnavite saints, known as Alvars, composed poems in praise of Lord Krishna of Dwaraka

Two Shiva Shrines
Those who go to Dwaraka wont miss two great Shiva temples in this area. Nageshwar Shiva temple is one of the 12 Jyotirlingas. Somanath Shiva temple was looted and destroyed by fanatic Mahmed of Gazni . Now both temples are visited by lakhs of pilgrims. Girnar and Raivatak hills in this area are connected with Krishna’s life. Girnar has beautiful historic inscriptions covering one thousand year period.
