 FOREWORD

In the first part of the book , I have given brief descriptions of 108 famous Hindu temples in Maharashtra. Like Tamil Nadu, we have a lot of temples for Shiva, Vishnu and Goddesses there. Four of the 12 Jyotirlinga Shrines attract millions of people every year. Like Sabarimalai in Kerala, lakhs of devotees walk to Pandharpur every year. In addition to the temples, Samadhis of holy saints like Shirdi Baba, Tukram, Jnandev, Samartha Ramdas and others are worshipped by millions. Like the divine Tamil hymns Tevaram, Tiruvasagam and Divya Prabandham, Marathi Abhangs are in thousands. They are household songs in Maharashtra.

Ashta Vinayak temples and Mumbai temples are visited by film personalities from Bollywood. Veera Shivaji and freedom fighter Bala Gangadhara Tilak made Bhavani worship and Ganesh worship very popular. Grama devatas like Khandoba are unknown in other parts of India. With beautiful groves of Western Ghats (Sahyadri Mountain) in the background, these temples have been a solace to millions of Hindus.

In the second part I have included a few stories of Lord Ganesh entering White House, Ten, Downing Street in London and Haldi festival.

My guide gives direction to or location of all the temples. If one keeps it in hand, one can plan the journey well and avoid wastage of time.
