Adi Shankara’s commentary on Vishnu Sahasranama (VS) gives us new interpretation of many words. We know Krishna means Mr Black. But Shankara gives new information.
Devaki-nandanah- Word or naamaa No.989
The son of Devaki in the incarnation as Krishna. Mahabharata 158-31 says
Jyotismi sukraani ca yaani loke!
Trayo lokaa lokapaalaas trayii ca
Trayo gnayas caahutayas ca pancha
Sarve devaa Devaki putra eva
Meaning
All the luminous bodies in the sky including the planets and the stars, all fires, and in the same way the three worlds, their guardian angels, the three vedas, the three Vedic fires, the five oblations, the entire group of Devas—all this is the son of Devaki.
My comments
All Bhajan songs, Krtis, Keertanas, compositions give more importance to Krishna’s mother Devaki or foster mother Yasoda than his father Vasudeva. This is the greatness of Hinduism. No culture or religion in the world praises women like Hinduism. Manu Smrti places women in the highest position. One sloka/ couplet says Mother is thousand times greater than father. Other two slokas say if a woman is made to cry or weep in a house, the family will be destroyed completely. Brothers must keep their sisters happy by buying them dress and jewellery. No one can show any praise or support for women in any part of the world like this. Manu wrote those slokas 2500 years ago or long before that.

Krsnah – Word or naamaa No.57
The Existence- Knowledge- Bliss. Says Mahaabahaarata- Udhyoga Parava 70-5,
Krsir bhuuvaacakah sabdo nas ca nirvrti vaacakah
Visnus tad -bhaava yoga ca Krno bhavati saasvatah
Meaning
The syllable Kr denotes existence, the syllable Na denotes bliss. Vishnu is both these. So He is always Krsna.

Krsnah – Word or naamaa No.550
One who is known as Krsna-dvaipayana. Says Vishnu Purana,
Krsna -dvaipaayanam vyaasam viddhi naaraayanam prabhum!
Ko hy anyah pundarikaaksanMahaabhaarata- krt bhavet!!
Meaning
Know that the Vyaasa known as Krsna dvaipaayana was the Lord Naaraayana Himself. Who except the lotus eyed Lord can produce a work like Mahaabhaarata?
My comments
The introductory slokas of VS also confirm it.
Vyaasaaya Vishnu rupaaya Vyasa rupaya vishnave.
Another couplet gives four generations of Vyasa- Vyasa, Vasistha, Sakti- Suka.
My research shows Vyasa was the person who wrote the longest epic and credited with the highest number of literary productions. No one can match him. Without him, Hindus would have lost 18 Puranas and Mahabharat.

Short cut to cure our sins!
Adi Shankara was so compassionate that he composed so many simple slokas to cure our sins. At the same time, he followed all ancient rituals and established Mutts in nook and corner of India for continuing those rituals. We see them even in today’s Shankara Mutts.
Paapanaasanah – Word or naamaa No.992
He who destroys the sins of those who adore Him, remember and sing hymns of praise on Him. The text known as Vrddha- saataapa says,
Pakso pavaasadyat paapam purusasya pranasyati
Praanaayaama -satena iva tat paapapam nasyate nrnaam!!
Praanaayaama – sahasrena yat yat paapam nasyate nrnaam
Sana-maatrena tat paapam harer dhyaanaat pranasyati
Meaning
–Whatever sin of a man is atoned for by one week’s fasting, that is achieved by a hundred Praanaayaamas. So also whatever sin is atoned for by a thousand Praanaayaamas, that is atoned for by meditation upon Hari even for a while.
