Naaraayanah -Word No.245 in the VS.

Nara means aatman. Aakaasa and other categories that are born  of it are Naaraas. Because He pervades these above mentioned categories as their cause.

He is called Naaraayana, that is one having residence in all beings. Narayana Upanishad13-1-2 says:

यच्च किञ्चित् जगत् सर्वं दृश्यते श्रूयतेऽपि वा ।
अन्तर्बहिश्च तत्सर्वं व्याप्य नारायणः स्थितः ॥

yacca kiñcijjagatsarvaṁ dṛśyate śrūyate’pi vā,
antarbahiśca tatsarvaṁ vyāpya nārāyaṇaḥ sthitaḥ.

Narayana remains  pervading  within and without this whole universe that is, seen or heard .

The Mahabharata says,

Naraat jaataani tattvaani naaraan iti tato viduh

Taany eva c’aayanam tasya tena Naaraayanah smrtah

Meaning

All categories are born of Nara, therefore, they are called Naaras. They also constitute the residence of the Lord. So He is Naaraayana.

He is called Naaraayana also because He is Ayana or residence of all beings at the time of dissolution.

Says Taittiriya Upanishad 3-1

Yat prayanti , abhisamvasanti – that which into all Jiivas enter into after death.

Says Narasimha Puraana

Naaraayanaaya nama iti ayam eva satyah

Samsara ghora visa samharanaaya mantrah

Sravantu bhavyamatayo yatayo’staraagaah

Uccaistaraam upadisaamy aham uurdva-baahuh

Meaning

O ascetics of virtuous mind and endowed with the spirit of renunciation! Listen to me. With hands uplifted I declare aloud that Naaraayanaaya namah (salutation to Naaraayana) is true Mantra for overcoming the terrible poison of the serpent of Samsaara.

Says Manu 1-10

आपो नारा इति प्रोक्ता आपो वै नरसूनवः ।
ता यदस्यायनं पूर्वं तेन नारायणः स्मृतः ॥ १० ॥

āpo nārā iti proktā āpo vai narasūnavaḥ |
tā yadasyāyanaṃ pūrvaṃ tena nārāyaṇaḥ smṛtaḥ
 || 10 ||

Water is called ‘nara,’—water being the offspring of nara; since water was the first thing created by (or, the original residence of) that being, he is, on that account, described as ‘nārāyaṇa.’—(1-10) Manu Smrti.

My Comments

The word NEER for Water is found in the Rig Veda. Famous linguists like S.K. Chatterjee jumped to the conclusion that it is a Tamil word. But Greeks have water nymphs like NEReids, that means it is a Sanskrit word. I Have also listed the Tamil words found in Greek language in one of my research papers. This is also proving my theory that Tamil is NOT a separate language from Sanskrit. Thousands of Tamil words are found in English. It proved two things:

1.Sanskrit and Tamil belong to the same group. Caldwell and Max Muller gangs are wrong.

2. Sanskrit and Tamil came from same source as Hindu scriptures say. In all the ancient languages we see remnants of these two languages. These are the languages that follow similar Sandhi rules; these are the two languages that write with or without Sandhi even today. Narayana means one who has his abode in NEER/Water.
