Why do Tamil Poets praise Tirukkural a ‘Tamil Veda’?- Part 5; Brahma and Lakshmi in Tamil Veda Tirukkural

Tiru Valluvar refers to Lakshmi , Hindu Goddess of Wealth, in Kural couplets 179, 519, 617, 920; her sister Alakshmi in 617 and 936

And

Brahma in 377, 1062.

These couplets show how God fearing were Hindus in the ancient Tamil Nadu. They worshipped al Hindu Gods. They believed in Curses and boons.

The word THIRU is SRI in Sanskrit and SIR in English.

My linguistics research shows they are cognate words.

T becomes S according to linguistics rule. All English words with TION is pronounced as SION (T=S). That means even the name of TIRUkkural and the name of author TIRU vallluvar – all have Lakshmi.

SIR title given by the British Government is nothing but SRI (Wikipedia gives different origin which is wrong).

xxx

Now let us look at Lakshm in Tirukkural. TIRU means sacred, wealth, Lakshmi and honorific prefix in Tamil just exactly same as SRI in Sanskrit. Fortune is synonym for Lakshmi.

The Goddess of wealth will make her abode with the worthy ones

Who, knowing the right path, refrain from casting covetous glances.-179

Or

The Goddess of Fortune will abide in the wise who know that coveting what belongs to another is unrighteous and acts accordingly- 179

Simple message is don’t be greedy.

Next Kural

Good fortune will desert the chief, who mistrusts and misinterprets

the actions of his trustworthy and efficient executives-519

or

Fortune forsakes the leader who suspects the loyalty of him that endeavour to carry out a design- 519

We see such things in big companies. Good workers are sent out and the company loses heavily.

xxxx

Next Kural

The dark elder sister representing misfortune  will go with the man of indolence

while the lotus born Lakshmi will reside with man of industry-617

or

Ill luck resides with the indolent and good luck of the lotus deity Lakshmi with strenuous strivers – 617

Successful stories of big companies prove this.

xxxx

Valluvar condemns three vices.

For those forsaken , misfortune’s device

Is double faced women , drink and dice- 920

Or

Prostitutes, liquor and gambling are the friends of those who have forsaken by the Goddess of Wealth -920

Strangely these are not considered vices in the Western world

xxxx

Now about Alakshmi in 936

Lakshmi’s elder sister is Alakshmi who symbolises poverty and misfortune.

Gambling is the ogress misfortune. Those who are deluded and swallowed by her, suffer grief, misery and poverty —936

Or

The habitual gamblers, who are blindfolded by their passion for the game ,

Will lose all sense of values and suffer untold evil-936

(Yudhisthira of Mahabharata is the best example. Manu Smriti included gambling as one of the vices of kings).

xxxx

BRAHMA is the God of Creation in Hindu religion.

Except as ordained by the lord, who measures out each man’s meet

Even the millionaire cannot enjoy his hoards -377

Or

Even to those who have acquired immense wealth the enjoyment of it may not be possible except as ordained by the Disposer of all things-377

All religions that appeared on Indian soil believe in Karma theory and fate.

Nala Damayanti story is the best example and in Tamil Kovalan- Kannaki story of Silppadikaram are the best examples.

xxxx

May the Creator perish wandering about if he has ordained begging too as a means of existence- 1062

Or

If the creator intended that some people should beg in order to eke out their livelihood

May he too wander about in such a world and perish-1062

Rajaji’s comment on this Kural is as follows-

If the world were so ordered that one of its inhabitants lives in dependence and on the mercy of others, the Creator would indeed deserve the curse of becoming a wandering beggar himself- 1062

(Valluvar, being a Sanatan Hindu believes  in cursing. Hindu Puranas have many stories where Gods themselves were cursed ) .

Valluvar becomes angry at the very thought of begging. He envisages a Utopian world where there is no begging.
