கலோரி என்றால் என்ன?
ஒரு கிராம் எடையுள்ள நீரை ஒரு டிகிரி வெப்பம் உயர்த்த தேவைப்படும் சக்தி ஒரு கலோரி ஆகும். நிறைய கலோரி உடைய உணவுகளை சாப்பிட்டால் உடலுக்கு அந்த அளவுக்கு சக்தி கிடைக்கும். அதிக கலோரி சாப்பிட, சாப்பிட உடம்பில் எடை கூடிக்கொண்டே இருக்கும். எடை கூடினால் இரத்த அழுத்தம், இருதய நோய்கள் வரும். இதை திருமூலரும் சொல்கிறார் .

Why do Tamil Poets call Tirukkural- a Tamil Veda? Part 7
There is a very valid reason for ancient Tamil poets praising Tirukkural (TK) as Tamil Veda. The very name of the book is Dhama Aratha Kama! In Tamil author Tiru Valluvar named it Muppaal meaning Three Subjects or Three Sections and divided it into three sections
Dharma/Aram in Tamil
Artha- Porul in Tamil
Kama (kaama) in Tamil (Tamils used the same Sanskrit word)
Let me first tell you some interesting things about this Dharma, Artha and Kaama.
The very word DHARMA is a cognate of Tamil word ARAM. Dharma becomes Dharam in Hindi and Aram in Tamil.
The second interesting thing is these three Hindu values Dharma, Artha Kaama are found in the oldest Tamil book Tolkappiam and Purananuru, part of 2000 year old Sangam Tamil Books.
The third interesting thing is PORUL have same double meaning in Tamil and Sanskrit! This shows both are from the same family of languages; Dravidian family is a fake. Thousands of Tamil words are found in English and hundreds of Tamil words are found in Greek and Latin. That means they are from the same family of languages. Cunning foreigners who came to divide the country and rule and spread Christianity created new family of languages. Even a child can see that all these new words came from Christian priests!
PORUL= meaning, a thing, wealth (in Tamil)
ARTHA= Meaning , wealth (in Sanskrit)
(there are so many words like this; I have written about them in my Linguistics Research Book)
The fourth interesting thing is Tamils differed from Sanskrit speakers in one aspect that they never write about Moksha (veedu in Tamil) , the fourth value.

Tamil grammatical rules say strange things:
1.A woman should not go abroad (in Tolkappiam)! Manu Smrti says Brahmins should not go abroad.
2.No Tamil should say Mokha openly, because it is a very secret and sacred word.
3.No Tamil should coin any word with Sa sound!! You can’t find a single Tamil word in the list of 100,000 words in the Sangam literature. But few Sanskrit words are used violating Tamil Grammar.
Ancient Tamils never hesitated to use Sanskrit words. The very word SANGAM Tamil Literature is Sanskrit.
The words KAMA, MANAS,HRUTHAYA etc are used through out Tamil Literature for over 2000 years!

The three objects of life are

love, as dealt with in detail in three parts by Valluvar.
We see here that Valluvar always has in his mind Dharma Artha Kama .
There are many more places where the commentators use the three values, though Valluvar did not use the words openly.

As per Tamil tradition, Valluvar neither put it as a topic nor used the word; but throughout the section on Aseticism he talks about VEEDU/Moksha by using different words.

பொருள்
மோட்சத்தை நாடும் குணவான்களான ரிஷி முனிவர்களே நான் சொல்வதைக் கேளுங்கள். கைகளை உயரத்தூக்கிய வண்ணம் நான் அறிவிப்பதாவது – நாராயணாய நமஹ என்னும் மந்த்ரம்.
நாராயணன் பற்றி மனுஸ்ம்ருதியும் பேசுகிறது,
ஆபோ நாரா இதி ப்ரோக்தா ஆபோ வை நரசூணவஹ
தா யத் அசி அயணம்பூ ர்வம் தேன நாராயணாயஹ ஸ்ம்ருதஹ
பொருள்
தண்ணீர் என்பது நாரா அல்லது பரமாத்மனின் குழந்தை ஆதலால் நாரா எனப்படும்.பரமாத்மன் முதலில் பள்ளிகொண்ட இடமும் தண்ணீர் தான். ; ஆகையால் அவரை நாராயண என்பார்கள்.
आपो नारा इति प्रोक्ता आपो वै नरसूनवः ।
ता यदस्यायनं पूर्वं तेन नारायणः स्मृतः ॥ १० ॥
āpo nārā iti proktā āpo vai narasūnavaḥ |
tā yadasyāyanaṃ pūrvaṃ tena nārāyaṇaḥ smṛtaḥ || 10 ||

தண்ணீர் என்னும் சொல் ரிக்வேதத்தில் இருக்கிறது. ஆனால் தமிழ் நூல்களுக்கு முற்பட்ட கிரேக்க புராணக் கதைகளில் நீர் தேவதைகளை நெரெய்ட்ஸ் NEREIDES என்று அழைக்கின் றனர். கிரேக்க மொழியில் ஒரு சொல் இருக்குமானால் அது ஸம்ஸ்க்ருதத்துட்ன் தடர்புடையது என்பது அர்த்தம் ஆகையால் அது திராவிட மொழிச் சொல்லாக இருக்கமுடியாது . ஆனால் கிரேக்க மொழியில் நூற்றுக் கணக்கிலும் ஆங்கில மொழியில் ஆயிரக் கணக்கிலும் தமிழ் மொழிச் சொற்கள் இருக்கின்றன.
இதற்கு இரண்டு காரணங்கள் இருக்கலாம்.
ஸம்ஸ்க்ருதமும் தமிழும் ஒரே குடும்பத்தைச் சேர்ந்த மொழிகளே. ஆகையால் முன்காலத்தில் இந்தச் சொல் புழங்கியது
இரண்டாவது காரணம் தமிழும் ஸம்ஸ்க்ருதமும் ஒரே மூல மொழியிலிருந்து வந்தன மாக்ஸ் முல்லர், கால்ட் வெல் கும்பல்கள் சொன்னதெல்லாம் தவறு இவ்விரண்டும்தான் இன்றுவரை சந்தி விதிகளை பின்பற்றி சொற்களை இணைத்துப் பேசுகின்றன எழுது கின்றன.
நாரா+அயண என்றால் நீரை வீடாகக் கொண்ட நாராயணன் என்று பொருள்.

Narada Jayanthi is being celebrated all across Bharat to commemorate the Jayanthi of Devarishi Narada, which usually falls in the Hindu month of Jyeshta (May-June as per the Gregorian calendar) on the Pratipada Tithi of Krishna Paksha.
Hindu organisations across Bharat have increasingly started re-establishing the significance of Narada muni among us Bharatiyas and placing him as an icon and role model in the field of journalism.
How Devarishi Narada has been portrayed in cinema
Cinema in Bharat has been highly instrumental in creating a negative image of Devarishi Narada. Instead of showing Him to be the way he should be, be it Hindi cinema or Tamil cinema, they ably aided in etching a comic caricature-like image in people’s minds.
Devarishi Narada was always shown to be the troublemaker, the gossip monger, the one who instigates chaos and fights.
In Bhagavad Gita, Bhagwan Krishna tells Arjuna that he identifies with Narada. In Chapter 10, Verse 26, He says,
अश्वत्थ: सर्ववृक्षाणां देवर्षीणां च नारद: |
गन्धर्वाणां चित्ररथ: सिद्धानां कपिलो मुनि: ||
This translates to, “Amongst trees, I am the peepal tree (sacred fig tree); of the celestial sages I am Narad. Amongst the Gandharvas, I am Chitrath, and amongst the Siddhas, I am sage Kapil.”
Devarishi Narada was one who could travel across space and time, and he was welcomed everywhere. Even the demonic asuras welcomed him and listened to his words. Such was his credibility.
Before “blaming” Devarishi Narada for all the “chaos” that ensues with him transferring information from one place to another, one has to understand the intent behind such an action. The intent is Vishwa Kalyan and Lok Kalyan, as Prof Dr KG Suresh, Vice Chancellor, Makhanlal Chaturvedi University, said.
Look back at such “instigations” that Narada has set rolling. Has any of these resulted in chaos? Has any of it resulted in a negative outcome? Then why did we allow such a Devarishi to be denigrated?
Devarishi Narada was a remarkable scholar, raised among sages and recognised for his deeds and qualities. He was also a musician credited with inventing the veena, an expert in mysteries, and a devoted follower of Narayana. He composed 84 Bhakti Sutras, with many mystics, including Swami Vivekananda, providing commentaries on these sutras. In Bharat, it is customary to invoke deities like Ganesha or Saraswati for knowledge, Hanuman Ji or Durga for strength, and Dhanvantari for medical science before starting any auspicious work. It is time for us journalists and media persons to invoke Devarishi Narada as well.
It is time to reclaim his status as the icon of journalism and communication.

Devarishi Narada was a proficient mediator who functioned as a communicator and messenger dedicated to public welfare, roles that remain relevant in modern journalism and media. Whenever Narada appeared suddenly, his hosts did not anticipate any commercial or diplomatic discussions. Instead, Narada always brought news. There is no record of Narada making formal or courtesy visits. His primary mission was disseminating news, making it reasonable to view him as a journalist. In today’s context, his role aligns with the objectives of journalism.
One of Devarishi Narada’s key attributes as a bearer of news was his focus on social benefit. None of his communications caused harm to society or the country. While some accounts suggest that Narada’s interventions caused temporary discord, these actions ultimately led to positive changes in the long run. Thus, Devarishi Narada was an exceptionally skilled public communicator, embodying the duty to serve in the interest of the world (Vishwa Kalyan) – one of the important principles of journalism.
Let us as journalists/mediapersons vow to embody atleast a miniscule percentage of what Devarishi Narada stood for.

He held this even during his most adverse situation and won the blessings of Lord Sri Narasimha. So, too, did Prince Dhruva have your advice & blessings and become an immovable Star or Polar Star. Another instance of Hinduphobia in academia has come to the fore. The Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IIT Bombay) has fined students Rs 1.2 lakh each for performing a play called ‘Raahovan’ during the institute’s annual performing arts festival. The play, loosely based on the Bharatiya Itihasa Ramayana, received heavy criticism on social media for disrespecting Sri Ram and Hindu culture.
In addition to the fine, almost equal to a semester’s fee at the prestigious institute, the graduating students will not receive any recognition in the Gymkhana awards. Their juniors have been fined Rs 40,000 each and banned from using hostel facilities.
The play was staged on March 31 by students from various departments and years. Videos of the performance were widely shared on social media, showing the audience cheering during a conversation between the characters Sita and Lakshman.
Complaints claimed that ‘Raahovan’ portrayed the main characters negatively and mocked Hindu culture and religious sentiments. In response, the institute formed a disciplinary committee to investigate. After careful consideration, the committee decided on the fines and other disciplinary actions.
Supporters of the students argued that the play was a feminist perspective on a tribal society and was appreciated by many. IIT Bombay has declined to comment on the actions taken against the students.
In a related incident, the website of Centre-run Pondicherry University was allegedly hacked in April by a group of Bharatiya hackers. The hackers were protesting a play performed on the campus that they claimed insulted the Ramayana and made fun of Sri Ram. They disrupted the university’s official website in a suspected DDoS (distributed denial of service) attack and threatened to remove the institution’s page from Wikipedia.
Why do Tamil Poets praise Tirukkural a ‘Tamil Veda’?- Part 6
All of us are scared of Death. Brahmins around the world pray to Yama thrice a day facing South . They also recite a Mantra for a long life of 100 years. Tiru Valluvar is no exception. He also says South is the direction where Yama loka is. He also says that we must pay obeisance to the departed souls in the South. Because Hindus are ordained to do Pancha yajna every day. On of them is to worship Pitrus/departed souls. No where in the world we such DAILY worship.
Tiru Valluvar refers to the God of Death in the Kurals/couplets 43, 269, 326, 765, 894, 1083, 1085
Tiru Valluvar is a Pukka Hindutva Guy. He follows orthodox Hinduism. An orthodox Hindu performs Pancha Yajna (Fivefold sacrifice) every day. That is, he has to supports his ancestors, his parents, guests, relations and his own family .
All around the world people support their own family and in some cases relations. But Hindus are supposed to divide their income into six parts and the sixth part should go to the king or government. Most of the Western countries follow the Hindu practice even today by taxing the people 17%.
Hinduism is unique and it says one must feed the guests and ancestors every day. In the olden days people keep the door open and shout before eating, , Is there anyone to join me in the lunch? But how do you feed the ancestors? They just pour water with sesame seeds saying the names of departed people- of seven generations. In this ceremony to propitiate the departed souls they face South and do the ceremony. In Tamil, the departed souls are called Southerners- those who live in the South. That is why Brahmins take the dead body South first (or body laid facing South). They do prayer to Yama facing south thrice a day in Sandhya Vandana.

(for ancestors ,Valluvar used the word Souherners)

In Sanskrit slokas/couplets it is slightly different:
Deva Yajna (gods/reading the scriptures), Pitru Yajna (ancestors), Bhoota Yajna (animals and birds), Manushya Yajna (Family, relations, guests) and Rishi Yajna (supporting saints and Sanyasis)
In many families they first offer the cooked food to gods and crows. All women learn it from their mothers and grand mothers. And while doing Kolam/Rangoli in front of the houses, women use rice flour to feed the ants. Through this couplet Valluvar proved himself a Pukka Hindu.

Those who have acquired strength asceticism have he power of overcoming even death- 269
Or
Those who achieved the strength of penance
Could even defeat the God of Death- 269
This is purely a Hindu concept. Conquering the death is in medical books and Tamil Siddhar Hymns.
Even two ancient commentators Manakkudavar and Parithiar refer to Markandeya as the example for achievement. Markandeya story is known to all Hindus.
One must clearly understand that nowhere in the world no one lived beyond 300 years in human body. Trailinga Swami of Kasi/Varanasi lived for over 300 years. What the Hindu scriptures mean is living in spiritual body. Bharatvaja Rishi lived 400 years to study the Vedas and yet he couldn’t master the Vedas, says our scriptures.

The God of Death will not cut short the life of man who upholds the ideal of non-killing in his life- 326

Who observes the vow of non- killing- 326
This is also a Hindu concept. No religion assures long life just because you are a vegetarian. Mahatma Gandhi said that he would live up to 120 years and he followed Ahimsa ( non killing) in word ,deed and thought. But he was assassinated even before he reached 100 years.
Tiru Valluvar was a Hindutva guy who believed that lands produce abundantly if there is rule of justice. He followed Kalidasa and Kamban who said tigers and deer will drink water from the same lake or river if there is rule of justice. In today’s world, Valluvar, Kamban and Kalidasa will be dubbed most superstitious poets.
Now Dravidian college girls are laughing at Hindutva Valluvar who said if a wife worships husband instead of God, that woman can command Rain God to pour down. One authoress criticised Valluvar saying he is past expiry date and there was a big uproar.
So what Valluvar said here about non-killing and long life would be ridiculed by the Dravidians. Two Dravidiab leaders distorted all the Kurals wherever such “out of date “ things said by Valluvar.

and God of Death/ கூற்றுவன்
One may wonder when the couplets says only ‘Death’ and not God of Death, why commentators interpret it as God of Death. In Tamil the word for death is Kuutram or Kuutru and the word for Yama is Kuuttru+van so ancient commentators use Yama wherever death is mentioned.

Thiruppugaz Recitation was held today 22 June 2024 at London Sri Murugan Temple in Eastham London. This is the 11th year festival organised by Mrs Jayanthi Sundar’s students. About 100 devotees attended the event.
Thiuppugaz was sung by Sri Arunagirinathar 500 years ago. Mrs Jayanthi Sundar of London selected about 25 songs from 1300 poems of Sri Arunagirinathar. Young children also sang some Tiruppugaz on their own,
Elder students sang along with her in beautiful voice. They follow the style of their Guru Sri Ragavan.
After the recitation for two hours, Mr Sundar did the puja for the Padas (wooden shoes) of three Shankaracharyas of Kanchi Kamakoti peetam.
