Jain saints of Tamil Nadu left us hundreds of poems with didactic messages 1200 years ago. They are collected under the title Naladiyar (naaladiyaar). Since their poems have four lines each it is named Naal= Four, Adi=Line or foot and Aar=honorific suffix.

Jains believed in Karma theory and Rebirth. Like Manu and Tirumular, one of the 18 Siddhas, Jains also predicted future births. Thy found out that the lepers, eunuchs, slaves and beggars were sinners in their previous births.

There has always been a never ending debate on Why some people are born rich and others poor, why some people get cancer and others not even if they smoked through their life, why some good people die sooner than bad people, why some are born handicapped and others are well built, why some people become rich over night and why some leaders and de thrown and executed by bad foreigners.

Hindus, Jains, Sikhs and Buddhists believe in Fate, Karma and Sin and Good merits.

Tamil poems say very interesting thins about Slaves, Beggars, Lepers and Hermaphrodites/eunuchs.

( I have already given a long list of animal births from Manu Smriti and Tirumular; Manikkavasagar and Adi Shakara also said that they were born as human beings after several million births as worms and animals.)

Great Tamil astrologer Kanian Poonkundran of Sangam Age also said that good and bad things happen according to their own Karma (good or bad deeds ); it in  Purananuru verse 192)

Here are Jain Predictions:

1

Punishment of ravishers. Those who, in a former state, without any regard to right, becoming associates of the mean, enjoyed the embraces of beautiful women, and by violence approached their neighbour’s wife, in this state will become eunuchs, and dancing shall earn their bread.

2

Why ignorant men live, while the wise die. Those that know the fruit of varied and profound learning die off, while the unlearned joyously live on. Would you know the cause ? — The unlearned posses within no ‘sap of sapience’; — so death deems then refuse stalks, and takes them not!

3

Why some beg from door to door. 53 Lord of the sea’s cool shore, where amid the wave swans sport, tearing to shreds the Adambu flowers ! When those whose hearts are sore with urgent need stand begging, and wander through the long street, in sight of all, this is the fruit of former deeds.

4

Penalty for imprisoning birds. Their legs in iron bound, as slaves to alien lords they will till the black and barren soil, who snared and kept in cages partridges and quails, that dwell in wilds where beetles hum amid the flowers.

5.

The penalty incurred by crab-eaters. Like fire their palms shall glow, their fingers rot away, who loved in other times on crabs to feed, and broke their joints, what time the guilt of ‘olden deeds’ comes home, and leprosy’s fierce pangs assail
