In Hungarian language it is slightly changed to
Three things are harmful in a house,
An angry wife, dense smoke, dish with a hole.
But Chinese, Korean and Japanese proverbs singled out wife and said,
In Chinese wu qi po jia = a bad wife ruins a family.
In Japanese,
Akusai wa rokujunen/ hyakunen no saku= a bad wife is like a poor harvest for sixty hundred years.

Hindus support this with many stories:
Kuchela or Sudhama had 27 children; all of them starved and then his wife begged or nagged him to go to Krishna, the king and get some help. When you go to see a god in the temple or a king or a saint you should take something to offer. So, his wife gave him pounded rice tide in a torn cloth. He went to Krishna’s palace and the guards at the gate refused entry after seeing his poor look. But he requested the guards to tell Krishna that his old school mate Sudhama had come to see him. When Krishna heard the name, he cam running to the palace gate ad hugged Sudhama. Then he was given royal treatment. When he took one hand full of pounded rice and ate, all the wealth started going to Sudhama’s hut. When he took the second handful, Krishna’s wife stopped him eating; she knew if he took another mouthful, the entire palace will go to Sudhama; because the devotion of a sincere friend can move a mountain. Then Kuchela alias Sudhama took leave of Krishna and went to his hut, but there was no hut but a palace just like Krishna’s. (Aladdin and the Wonderful Lamp story took or stole this idea).
Here the nagging wife drove him out, but all ended well.

But there is another story where the most famous Tamil poetess Avvaiyar met a poor husband with a very bad (ddest) wife.
The poor man saw Avvaiyar (avvaiyaar) walking tiredly and invited her for dinner. As soon as his wife saw her, she became angry. Then Avvaiayar said,
The man cajoled his wife in all the ways like dressing her, cleaning her hair of lice and then said about me, the guest ; she became so angry and jumped up and down and drove her husband out by beating him with a winnowing fan (Muram in Tamil); Avvaiyar laughed and slipped out.
இருந்து முகம் திருத்தி ஈரோடு பேன் வாங்கி
விருந்து வந்ததென விளம்ப –வருந்தி
ஆடினாள் … பாடினாள்; ஆடிப்பழ முறத்தால்
சாடினாள் ஓடோடத்தான்.–

அன்பில்லாள் இட்ட அமுது.
I am ashamed to see such a woman; my heart and bones are burning because of the food that served by a woman/ wife who has no kindness.
And the poetess did not stop there,
Shed advised her husband
சண்டாளி சூர்ப்பனகை தாடகையைப் போல்வடிவு
கொண்டாளைப் பெண்டென்று கொண்டாயே
தொண்டா செருப்படிதான் செல்லாவுன் செல்வமென்ன
செல்வம் நெருப்பிலே வீழ்ந்திடுதல் நேர்
பத்தாவுக்கு ஏற்ற பதிவிரதை உண்டாணால்
எத்தாலும் கூடி யிருக்கலாம் – சற்றேனும்
ஏறுமா றாகஇருப்பாளே ஆமாயின்
கூறாமல் சந்நியாசம் கொள்.
Oh my god you got woman like a low life, like demoness Tadaka, Surpanakha; better to fall in the fire than to live with her; if one has a good wife one may live happily otherwise better run away from home and become an ascetic.

நுளம்ப வம்சத்தினர் கி.பி. எட்டாம் நூற்றாண்டுக்கும் 11-ஆம் நூற்றாண்டுக்கும் இடைப்பட்ட காலப்பகுதியில் தென்னிந்தியாவில் நுளம்பபாடி என்னும் பகுதியை ஆட்சி செய்த குறுநில மன்னர்கள் ஆவர். நுளம்பபாடி இன்றைய ஆந்திரா, கர்நாடகா தமிழ்நாடு மாநிலங்களின் சில பகுதிகளை உள்ளடக்கியது. தமிழ் நாட்டில் தருமபுரி வரைக்கும் இவர்களுடைய கலைத்திறன் கொண்ட கோவில்களைக் காணலாம் .
நுளம்ப வம்சத்தினர் , பாணர்களுக்கும் சாளுக்கியர்களுக்கும் கங்கர்களுக்கும், ராட்டிரகூடர்களுக்கும் அடங்கி ஆட்சிசெய்தனர். இவர்கள் தங்களைப் பல்லவர்களின் வழியைச் சேர்ந்தவர்களாகக் கூறுகின்றனர். ஏமாவதித்தூண் கல்வெட்டு மூலம் இவர்களுடைய மன்னர்களின் பட்டியலை அறிகிறோம்.
நுளம்பர்களின் தலைநகராக இருந்த ஹேமாவதியின் வடமேற்கில் சித்தேஸ்வரா, தொட்டேஸ்வரா, விரூபாக்ஷர், மல்லேஸ்வரா சிவன் கோவில்கள் அமைந்துள்ளன. சுமார் 1000 அல்லது 1200 ஆண்டுகள் பழமையுடைய இந்தக் கோவில்களை பிற்காலத்தில் வந்தவர்கள் திருப்பணி செய்ததால் தூண்கள் மற்றும் கருவறையில் உள்ள தெய்வம் போன்றவை பழமை மாறாமல் உள்ளன.. சோழர் கைகள் ஓங்கியதும் நுளம்ப வம்சம் மறைந்து விட்டது.

சித்தேஸ்வரா கோவில் கர்ப்பக்கிரகத்தில் சித்தேஸ்வரர் மூன்று கண்களுடன் சுகாசனத்தில் அமர்ந்து அருள்புரிகிறார். சிலையானது ஒரு பீடத்தில் நிறுவப்பட்டுள்ளது . நான்கு கைகளில் மூன்றில் திரிசூலம், டமருகம், கபாலம் ஆகியன உள்ளன. நாலாவது கை அபய முத்திரையில் ஆசி வழங்குகிறது; நெற்றியில் பிறைச் சந்திரனைக் காணலாம்..
தொட்டேஸ்வரா கோவில் மேற்கு நோக்கி இருக்கிறது கர்ப்பக்கிரகத்தில் சிவ லிங்கத்தைத் தரிசிக்கலாம். இங்கு குறிப்பிடத்தக்க விஷயங்கள் –சிற்பங்கள் நிறைந்த சபா மண்டபமும் அவற்றின் தூண்களும் ஆகும் . ஜன்னல்கள் விதவிதமான பூ அலங்கார வேலைப்பாடுகளுடன் செதுக்கப்பட்டுள்ளன. வேறு எங்கும் இவ்வளவு வகைகளைக் காண முடியாது; ஒரு சிறிய மண்டபத்தில் இருக்கும் நந்தியும் கவர்ச்சிகரமாக வடிவமைக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது .ஒரு வேலைப்பாடுமிக்க ஆழ் கிணறும் மண்டபங்களுக்கு முன்னால் வெட்டப்பட்டுள்ளது.
ஏனைய இரண்டு கோவில்களில் இது போன்ற சிற்பங்கள் இருந்தாலும் அவைகளை , அடுத்த தரத்தில்தான் வைக்க வேண்டும்.
ஹேமாவதி மியூசியத்தில் பல சிற்பங்கள் பாதுகாப்பாக வைக்கப்பட்டிருக்கின்றன.
நான்கு கோவில்களில் சித்தேஸ்வரா கோவில்தான் மிகப்பழையது. இந்த வம்சத்தினரின் முழுச் சிறப்புகளையும் அறியவேண்டுமானால் அரலகுப்பே, நந்தி, அவனி, தருமபுரி கோவில்களுக்கும் செல்ல வேண்டும்.
தொட்டேஸ்வரா கோவிலில் கார்த்திகேயன் , பிரம்மா ஆகியோரை ஜன்னல்களில் உருவமாகச் சமைத்து இருப்பது நுளம்பர்களின் தனித்துவத்தைக் காட்டுகிறது . மேலும் கங்கா, யமுனா, விஷ்ணு ஆகியோர் உருவங்களையும் செதுக்கியுள்ளனர்.; அவைகளில் நந்தி சிலை குறிப்பிட்டது தக்கது.
சித்தேஸ்வரா, தொட்டேஸ்வரா ஆகிய இரண்டு கோவில்களிலும் பதினாறு கால் மண்டபங்கள் இருக்கின்றன. ஒவ்வொரு தூணிலும் அற்புத வேலைப்பாடுகளைக் காணலாம்; இதிலும் நுளம்பர் காலச் சிற்பிகளின் தனித்துவம் மிளிர்கிறது . ஒரு காலத்தில் இந்தக் கோவில்கள் மீதிருந்த கோபுரங்கள் இப்போது இல்லை.
வீர சைவர்கள் வணங்கிய இந்தக் கோவில்களில் ஆடுகளை பலிகொடுத்ததும் தெரிகிறது.
கோவில்களின் காளி சிற்பம் உள்பட சில சிற்பங்கள் சென்னை மியூசியத்தில் வைக்கப்பட்டுள்ளன.
நுளம்பர் கலைச் செல்வங்கள் குறித்து ஆங்கிலத்தில் நான்கு புஸ்தகங்ககளும் பல கட்டுரைகளும் வெளியாகியுள்ளன.

சென்ற ஆண்டு (2023) மல்லேஸ்வரசுவாமி கோவிலில் ஹொய்சாளர் கல்வெட்டு ஒன்று கண்டுபிடிக்கப்பட்டது . அது நுளம்பேஸ்வர சுவாமிக்கு இரண்டாவது வீர வல்லாளன் (Hoysala King Veera Ballala II (1173-1220) கொடுத்த தானத்தைக் கூறுகிறது; கடந்த காலத்தில் இரண்டு சோழர் கல்வெட்டுகளும் இரண்டு நுளம்ப- பல்லவர் கல்வெட்டுகளும் கண்டுபிடிக்கப்பட்டன. இப்பொழுது ஹொய்சாளர் கல்வெட்டு கண்டுபிடிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது.

இளமையில் பியானோ வாசிக்கக் கற்றுக் கொண்டார் டாட்டா. ஆனால் அதை வாசித்து மகிழ அவருக்கு நேரமே கிடைக்கவில்லை. ஓய்வு பெற்ற பின்னர் தனது சிறிய வீட்டில் பியானோ வாசித்து மகிழ்ந்தார் அவர்.

According to the program Columbus DNA: His True Origin, aired on RTVE to coincide with Spain’s national day and the commemoration of Columbus’s arrival in the New World, the 15th-century explorer was Jewish and originally from Spain. A research team led by forensic expert Miguel Lorente examined small samples from remains believed to be Columbus’s, interred in Seville Cathedral in Spain, which has been recognized as his burial site despite competing claims.
They compared these samples with those from known relatives and descendants. For centuries, nations have disputed the origins and final resting place of Christopher Columbus, the controversial figure who led Spanish-funded expeditions starting in the 1490s, paving the way for the European colonization of the Americas. Many historians have challenged the conventional belief that Columbus hailed from Genoa in northwestern Italy, proposing alternative theories suggesting he could have been a Spanish Jew, Greek, Basque, or Portuguese.
Miguel Lorente, who spoke to reporters about the research on Thursday, confirmed earlier claims that the remains found in Seville belonged to the explorer. He stated, “Today, we have used new technologies to definitively confirm that the remains in Seville (Spain) are indeed Christopher Columbus’s.”
He also noted that while the research into his nationality was complex due to the vast amount of data, the results are “almost absolutely reliable.” Columbus passed away at the age of 55 in Valladolid, Spain, in 1506, but he expressed a desire to be buried on the island of Hispaniola, which is now divided between the Dominican Republic and Haiti. His remains were transported there in 1542, then moved to Cuba in 1795, and eventually, it was believed they were brought to Seville in 1898.
In 1877, workers discovered a lead casket behind the altar of a cathedral in Santo Domingo, the Dominican Republic’s capital, which contained bone fragments that the country claims are Columbus’s remains. Lorente mentioned that both claims could be valid since both sets of bones are incomplete.

தலைமை
டாட்டா குழுமத்தின் தலைவரானவுடன் ரத்தன் டாட்டா தனது இயல்பை முதலில் காட்டினார்.
ஜே.ஆர்.டி. டாட்டா அமர்ந்த இடத்தில் அவருக்கு இணையாகத் தம்மால் அமர்வது இயலாது என்று பணிவுடன் கூடிய அவர் “அவரது பெரிய காலணிகள் எங்கே எனது சிறிய கால்கள் எங்கே” என்று கூறினார்.
நிர்வாக போர்டு கூட்டத்தில் அனைவரும் அமரும் போது தலைவரான இவர் சிறிது நேரம் தான் ஜே ஆர் டி டாட்டா அமர்ந்த அதே இருக்கையில் அமர்வார். பின்னர் அங்கிருந்து எழுந்து அடுத்த நாற்காலிக்குச் சென்று விடுவார். இதை ‘மியூஸிகல் சேர் அமர்தல்’ என்பார்கள் அனைவரும்!
மிகப் பெரிய டாட்டா குழுமத்தின் தலைவராக இருந்தாலும் கூட தனக்கென விசேஷ சலுகை எதையும் விரும்பாதவர் டாட்டா.
டாட்டா ஸ்டீலின் அலுவலகம் சிறியதாக இருந்த காரணத்தினால் மூத்த அதிகாரிகளுக்கான அறைகளும் சிறிதாகவே இருந்தன. அவருடன் பணியாற்றிய இரு அதிகாரிகளுக்கும் அவருக்கும் ஒரே பணியும் பொறுப்பும் தரப்பட்டது. அதிகாரிகள் அவரிடம் சற்று பெரிய காபின் ஒன்றை அமைத்துக் கொள்ளுங்கள் என்று கூறிய போது அவர் தனக்கென விசேஷ சலுகை எதுவும் கூடாது என்று கண்டிப்பாகக் கூறி அதே காபினில் பணியைத் தொடர்ந்தார்.
தொழிலாளர்களின் நண்பர்
தொழிலாளர்கள் நோய்வாய்ப்படும் போதோ, ஒரு கஷ்ட சூழ்நிலையில் இருக்கும் போதோ, அந்தத் தொழிலாளியின் வீட்டிற்கு தானே நேரடியாகச் சென்று ஆறுதல் கூறி உதவிகளைச் செய்வது அவர் வழக்கம்.
1984-ல் நடந்த பெரும் குழப்பத்தில் தங்கள் வாகனங்களை இழந்த சீக்கிய ஓட்டுநர்களுக்கு அவர் இலவசமாக வாகனங்களைத் தந்தார். இது யாருக்குமே தெரியாது. விளம்பரத்தை அவர் வெகுவாக விரும்பவில்லை.
எளிமை
தனது வாழ்நாள் முழுவதும் மிக எளிமையாக வாழ்ந்து வந்தார் அவர். “வெற்றியாளர்களைக் கண்டு நான் பிரமிக்கிறேன். ஆனால் இரக்கமற்ற அநியாயமான வழியில் அவர்களின் வெற்றி அடையப்பட்டது என்றால் அவர்களைக் கண்டு என்னால் பிரமிக்கத்தான் முடியும். என்னால் அவர்களுக்கு மரியாதை கொடுக்க முடியாது.” என்றார் அவர்.
இந்தக் கொள்கையைக் கொண்ட ரத்தன் டாட்டா தனது வாழ்நாள் முழுவதும் நேர்மையான வழியைக் கடைப்பிடித்து வெற்றியை அடைந்தார் என்பதோடு பெற்ற வெற்றியால் தலைக்கனம் கொள்ளாது மிக எளிமையானவராக இருந்தார்.
இதை நிரூபிக்கும் நூற்றுக் கணக்கான சம்பவங்களை அவருடன் கூட இருந்து பழகியோர் அனுபவித்திருக்கின்றனர். அவரது மறைவையொட்டி அவர்கள் ரத்தன் டாட்டா என்ற மாமனிதருடன் பழகிய சம்பவங்களை இது பற்றி நினைவு கூர்கின்றனர்.
பெரிய குழுமத்தின் தலைவராக இருந்த அவர் ஒருநாள் அலுவலகத்திலிருந்து வெளியே வந்தார். அவரது நண்பர் ஒருவர் டாக்ஸியில் ஏறிக் கிளம்பிக் கொண்டிருந்தார். “எங்கே போகிறீர்கள்?” என்று கேட்டார் டாட்டா. தான் போகும் இடத்தை அவர் சொன்னவுடன், “நானும் அங்கே தான் போக வேண்டும், வரலாமா?” என்று கேட்டு விட்டு டாக்ஸியில் அவர் பக்கத்தில் அமர்ந்தார் டாட்டா.
இதைப் பார்த்த நண்பர் விக்கித்து பிரமித்தார்.
பிரம்மாண்டமான நிறுவனங்களின் தலைவர் சாதாரண டாக்ஸியில் தன் கூட பயணிப்பதா? அவரால் நம்பவே முடியவில்லை. ஆனால் டாட்டாவோ சகஜமாக சிரித்தவாறே அவருடன் பேசிக் கொண்டு வண்டியில் சென்றார்.
விருதுக்குப் பெருமை தந்தவர்
வருடத்திற்கு ஒரு பெரிய விருதாவது டாட்டாவிற்கு வழங்கப்படும். விருதை வழங்கியவர்கள் அதைப் பெற்றவரை விட அப்படி வழங்கியதால் பெருமைப்பட்டார்கள். ஒரு முறை இன்ஃபோஸிஸ் நிறுவனர் திரு நாராயணமூர்த்தி அவருக்கு வாழ்நாள் சாதனை விருதை அளித்தார். விருதை அளிப்பதற்கு முன்னர் அவர் காலில் விழுந்து அவரைக் கும்பிட்டு விட்டு வழங்கினார். இப்படிப்பட்ட அபாரமான மனிதரைத் தான் கண்டதே இல்லை என்றார் அவர். கல்லூரியில் படிக்கும் தன் மகளை டாட்டா வீட்டிற்கு அழைத்துச் சென்ற போது அந்த இளம்பெண்ணுடன் மூன்று மணி நேரம் உரையாடி அவருக்கு உத்வேகம் ஊட்டியதை அவர் நெகிழ்ச்சியுடன் அனைவருடன் பகிர்ந்து கொள்கிறார்.

அமெரிக்காவில் வாஷிங்டனில் உள்ள இந்திய தூதரகம் சுறுசுறுப்பானது. இந்திய தொழிலதிபர்கள் தங்குவதற்காக நல்ல ஹோட்டல் அறைகளை அது தேர்ந்தெடுத்தது. ரத்தன் டாட்டா தங்குவதற்காக வாஷிங்டன் டி.சி.யில் உள்ள மிகப் பெரும் நட்சத்திர ஹோட்டலான வில்லார்ட் இண்டர் காண்டினெண்டல் தேர்ந்தெடுக்கப்பட்டது. ஆப்ரஹாம் லிங்கன் உள்ளிட்டோர் தங்கியதால் சரித்திர பிரசித்தி பெற்ற இடம் இது.
இங்கு ரத்தன் டாட்டா தங்க இடம் ஏற்பாடு செய்யப்பட்டது. அவர் தனது சூட்கேஸை தானே எடுத்துக் கொண்டு வர, அறையில் நுழைந்து இந்திய தூதரகத்தினரைப் பார்த்து புன்சிரிப்புடன் ஜெய்ஹிந்த் என்றார். அனைவரின் நலனையும் விசாரித்தார்.
மறுநாள் காலை அவரை உரிய இடத்திற்கு அழைத்துச் செல்ல பணியாளர்கள் சென்ற போது அவரை அவரது அறையில் காணோம். அவரது உடைமைகள், பெட்டிகள் எதையும் காணோம். கலவரம் அடைந்த அனைவரும் நேரடியாக நட்சத்திர விடுதியின் வரவேற்பாளரிடம் ஓடினர். திடுக்கிட்ட அவர்களது கவலையை வில்லார்டின் பொது மேலாளர் போக்கினார். முதல் நாள் இரவு டாட்டா தங்களை அணுகி அந்த பிரமாண்டமான சூட் தனக்கு வேண்டாம் என்றும் ஒரு சிறிய சிங்கிள் அறை போதும் என்றும் கூறவே அவரது வேண்டுகோளுக்கிணங்கி ஒரு சிறிய அறை ஒதுக்கித் தரப்பட்டது என்று கூறினார்.
அனைவரும் அந்த அறைக்கு விரைந்தனர். அங்கே புன்சிரிப்புடன் தயாராக இருந்தார் டாட்டா. ஏன் அப்படி அவர் அந்த சிறிய அறைக்கு மாறினார் என்று கேட்கப்பட்ட போது, அவர் கூறிய பதில் இது: “என்னால் ஏற்பட்ட அசௌகரியத்திற்கு மிகவும் வருந்துகிறேன். ஆனால் இந்த பிரம்மாண்டமான சூட்டிற்கு ஆகும் செலவை என்னால் நியாயப்படுத்த முடியாது. எனது கம்பெனியின் பங்குதாரர்களுக்கு பதில் சொல்ல வேண்டியவன் நான். எனக்கு இந்த ஆடம்பரச் செலவு ஆகாதே!”.
இந்த பதிலால் அனைவரும் பிரமித்தனர். அவரது உயரிய நேர்மை, சிக்கனம், எளிமை, நிறுவனத்தின் பங்குதாரர்களுக்கு அதிக லாபத்தொகையைத் தர வேண்டும் என்னும் அவரது உறுதி ஆகிய அனைத்தையும் சுட்டிக் காட்டிய இந்த சம்பவம் அனைவர் மனதிலும் நல்ல ஒரு தாக்கத்தை ஏற்படுத்தியது. “இவர் தான் டாட்டா” என்பதை அறிந்து அனைவரும் பூரித்தனர்.

His cousin said to him
How could you abandon the name of your ancestor and adopt the name of another man ?
A hero woud rather be a brokne jade than a whole tile. Yuan jingan reported it to Gao Yang . His cousin was put to death and he was rewarded and promoted.

Annual Diwali event on behalf of the Greater London Authority lead by London Mayor Sadiq Khan was held on Sunday 27th October 2024 at the Trafalgar Square in London. This year BSNL (Brahmin Society of NorthLondon ) took the leader role and made the function a grand success. Thousands and thousands attended it from 1 pm to 7 pm.
Many years ago, I attended the event and then decided not to go, because the Sikhs took the leader role and made it a dirty event with Bollywood dances and Non Veggy items. The smell was horrible. This year (2024), it was a completely different event with real Hindu Diwali items.
There were Yoga Stall, Bhajan Stall, Dance Stall, Hinduism stall etc. 10 to 15 street food stalls were there with long Queues in front of them.

Highlights of the event:
All organisations such as Jain, Hindu and Sikh organisations were given time slots to greet the people. Hare Krishna (ISKCON), Brahma Kumaris, Nepali Hindus also spoke.
Wonder of Wonders, Pakistani origin London Mayor Sadiq Khan garlanded Ganesh statue along with others and lit the Diwali lamps with others. All the people appreciated his gesture and thanked the mayor team for full support.

About the Cultural Events
Dance after dance was performed by various teams. One team came all the way from Cambridge. The function began with Drums.in between Bollywood songs, divine music was also heard. Indian High Commission was represented by Deputy H C Mr Gosh. I stayed there for three hours and covered 40 percent of the events. South Indians also did participate in the dance events.
In between the cultural items, Professor Steven who did good research on autism, explained the causes and requested full support for people with autism. No bad activity of parents cause autism, and it is one of the genetic things. People with autism got Ph.D.s and we see famous doctors and lawyers, accountants who has autism. Though he took five minutes he gave an informative report. One Ms. Geetha came with an autism boy.
The good thing is all the staged items were brief and did not take more than ten minutes. People from different walks of life and foreign tourists who frequent Trafalgar Square also joined the crowd.
Above all, London weather blessed the event with full sunlight which is very rare. A lot of volunteers maintained the crowd efficiently.
Hope every year we get such an event with good quality and standards.

Diwali is on 31st October 2024. But Gujarati Hindus celebrate it for four days and one of the days is New Year day for them.

I have seen my accountant friends do Computer Puja on that day because all the accounting work is done by computer software!
