Foreword

This book Medical Wonders in Hindu Scriptures contains over 35 articles written over a period of ten years in my blogs. The book is dealing with Ayurveda, herbs and plants in Hinduism. Sacred plants like Bilva, Tulsi, Parijatha, Sandal etc are covered. Herbal references in the Vedas are also touched. Some titbits from Charaka and Susrutha Samhitas are also included. The Ayurvedic Exhibition held in London displayed the replicas of surgical instruments that were used by Sushruta two thousand years ago. I have added the pictures. Hindus not only did artificial nose surgery but also did brain surgery according to a research article and I have added the details. The book will be a guide for future research in the allied subjects. And the book will be an addition to my previous books on trees and herbs. All the books are available in Pustaka.co.in website.

முன்னுரை

தமிழ் – அவஸ்தன்– சம்ஸ்க்ருத- கிரேக்க -மொழி ஆராய்ச்சிக் கட்டுரைகள் என்ற தலைப்பில் வெளியாகும் இந்த நூல் மொழியியல் ஆராய்ச்சி குறித்த எனது இரண்டாவது நூலாகும். உலகின் மிக முக்கியமான நான்கு மொழிகளின் ஒற்றுமைகளை இருபத்தைந்துக்கும் மேலான கட்டுரைகள் ஆராய்கிறது .

தமிழ் தெரிந்தவர்களுக்கு சம்ஸ்கிருதம் தெரிவதில்லை; சம்ஸ்கிருதம் தெரிந்தவர்களுக்கு தமிழ் தெரிவதில்லை. இதனால் பல தவறான கருத்துக்களை பரப்பி வருகின்றனர். கிரேக்கம் மற்றும் அவஸ்தன் மொழி பற்றி நிறைய பேருக்குத் தெரியவே தெரியாது. அவைகள் பற்றிய ஆங்கில நூல்களை நான் படித்தபோது தமிழ் சம்ஸ்க்ருத மொழிகளுடன் அவைகளுக்குள்ள அபூர்வ ஒற்றுமை தெரிந்தது.  பாரதியார் பாடலில் சொன்னது போல தமிழ் மொழியை ஆதி சிவன் பெற்றுவிட்டான் என்றால், தமிழின் பழமை எவ்வளவு என்பது எல்லோருக்கும் விளங்க வேண்டும். சிவ பெருமான் எவ்வளவு பழமையானவரோ அவ்வளவு பழமை யானது தமிழ் மொழி! எழுத்துக்களைக் கற்கும் சிறுவர் சிறுமியர் கற்பது அரிச்சுவடி; அதாவது தமிழ் எழுத்துக்கள், திருமால் எவ்வளவு பழமையானவரோ அவ்வளவு பழமையானது; அதனால் அதற்கு அரிச்சுவடி என்று பெயரென்பதை அம்பலவாண தேசிகர் அறப்பளீஸ்வர சதகத்தில் பாடி நமக்கு விழிப்புணர்வு ஏற்படுத்துகிறார்.

தமிழும் சம்ஸ்கிருதமும்தான் உலகின் ஆதி மொழிகள் என்றும் எந்த ஒரு பழைய மொழியிலும் இவ்விரு மொழிகளின் சொற்கள் இருப்பதைக் காணலாம் என்றும் நான் என் கருத்தினை முன்வைத்து ஆதாரங்களைக் காட்டியிருக்கிறேன். மொழியியல் ஆராய்ச்சிக்கு இந்த நூலும் இதற்கு முந்தைய எனது நூலும் துணை புரியும். மேலும் புது நோக்கில் ஆராய்ச்சிகளை ஊக்குவிக்கும் என்பது எனது நம்பிக்கை .
