What is my opinion about using Horoscopes in finalising Marriages? Q and A (Post No.13,901)

I have been asked by a very close relative on the significance of “jyothida sastra” on Vivaha Porutham especially in this “Kaliyuga”.
In my humble opinion and based in listening to upanyasam by renowned Vedic scholar “Mahomadhpaya Dr K V Seshadrinatha Sastrigal, based on TV Series on Sankara TV titled “Dharma Sastram” (episode 27 or 28), my understanding is that there are 4 essential qualities that are important as per Dharma Sastram and they are:
- Bandhu (lineage or family history)
- Seela (character)
- Lakshana (appearance etc)
- Arogaha (free from illness or decrease)
Dr K V Sheshadrinatha Sastrigal (widely known as KVS Mama) says that Astrology or Vivaha Porutham based on it must be by an erudite or a Vedic scholar who has in depth understanding of both Veda and Sastra and someone who meticulously follows and adheres to “anushtana” or does this diligently and daily has the qualities required to opine the astronomical or astrological value in “Vivaha Porutham”. Dr KVS mama says that there is no one or very few in this Kali Yuga therefore the 4 qualities described above I.e. bsndhu, Seela, lakshana, arogaha is adequate for Vivaha Porutham. He adds to ensure that the “Gothram” is different of the couple in this.
KVS Mama to me is right as his guidance is in conjunction with Dharma Sastram book that I sent link to few days ago. On that book there is a section for Vivaham on page 32 is on that section, nowhere it says to use horoscope.
I further would say nowhere in Gita or in Ramayana there is reference to use of horoscope in the divine wedding of Sita/Rama wedding of Krishna wedding or in Parameswaran, Parvati wedding.
I want to ask your opinion and suggestions on this as well as guide me with link to your research articles on your blog please?

EVEN NON -BRAHMINS SEE ONLY RAJJU PORUTHTHAM AND AYUL PORUTHTHAM. I AGREE WITH THAT. (if they believe in horoscopes)
THERE ARE OVER 8000 DIVORCE CASES IN EACH BIG CITY IN INDIA.
IN TAMIL NADU, MOST OF THE DIVORCE CASES ARE FROM BRAHMIN COMMUNITY.
SO IT IS BETTER TO ASK THE BOY AND GIRL TO MEET FOR SIX MONTHS AND SAY YES OR NO FOR MARRIAGE.
YOUR CHILDREN AND MY CHILDREN R LUCKY TO GET MARRIED AT THE RIGHT AGE WITH THE RIGHT PERSON.
SO HORSCOPES SHOLUD BE RELEGATED TO SECOND POSITION.
MATCHING MINDS IS MORE IMPORTANT.

U R RIGHT IN SAYING THERE IS NO HOROSCOPE MATCHING REFERENCES IN ANCIENT TAMIL OR SANSKRIT SCRIPTURES. ONLY ANCIENT BOOKS ON ASTROLOGY REFER TO IT.
VARAHAMIHIRA’S BRHAT JATAKA IS OVER 1500 YRS OLD. IT MAY HAVE SUCH REFERENCES.

AS FOR ME I SUPPORT ANY HINDU MARRYING ANOTHER HINDU .
RATIO OF GIRLS PER 1000 IS STILL LOW.
IN CHINA , KOREA AND RUSSIA BIRTH RATE IS VERY LOW.
PUTIN HAS CREATED A SEX MINISTRY TO INCREASE RUSSIAN POPULATION

HOROSCOPES ARE BECOIMNG IRRELEVANT.

(after sending this reply to my friend in London, I remembered one anecdote. Trichy Sri Kalyanasundaram, who is well versed in astrology, is giving religious talks. He used to donate his money for poor brahmin marriages. He said that last time three people did not come to me as promised because their daughters have already ran away with some boys; this is the situation in Tamil Nadu)
