Swami Vivekananda, Adi Sankara and Bharatiyar, the greatest of the modern Tamil poets , left the world before they were forty years old. They have done tremendous work within that period. But had they lived longer they would have changed the world for better. Two of the three attained Samadhi and Bharati died without taking medicine. Their last days described how they died or attained samadhi
Sri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa (R .K .P) explains the reason for this in his teachings.
For Brahma Gnanis , 21 day period is the survival period according to him.
Bharati called himself a Siddha and declared that he would not die. Like other Siddhas or saints he is also remembered whenever one speaks about Tamil Language. And we believe Tamil wont die. So as long as Tamil exists, Bharati’s name would also live.
Sri R K P explains it in an anecdote:
There was a place enclosed by a high wall, and men outside did not know what sort of a place it was. Once four persons made up their minds to scale the wall with the help of a ladder, and find out what was inside. As soon as the first man ascended to the top of the wall, he laughed out, “Ha ha! ha!”, and jumped into the enclosure.
The second person also, as soon as he ascended the wall, laughed aloud and jumped in like the first; and so did the third. When the fourth and last man got upon the wall, he found stretched before him a large and beautiful garden with pleasant groves full of delicious fruits. Though strongly tempted to jump in and enjoy the scene, he resisted the temptation, and coming down the ladder, spoke of the glory of the garden to those outside it. Brahman is like that walled garden.
Whoever sees Him forgets his own existence and rushes headlong to Him to be absorbed in His essence. Such are the holy men and the liberated saints. But the Saviours of humanity are those who see God, and being at the same time eager to share their happiness of Divine vision with others, refuse the opportunity of passing into Nirvana (state of extinction of individuality), and willingly undergo the troubles of rebirth in the world in order to teach and lead struggling humanity to its goal.
Bhagawan Sri Ramakrishna
(Sayings of Sri Ramakrishna,)
And in another place, he says,
“Can there be Maya in the emancipated soul? Ornaments cannot be made of pure gold.; some alloy must be mixed with it. As long as a man has a body he must have some Maya, at least to carry on the function of the body; a man totally devoid of Maya ,will not survive more than 21 days”.
Once the saintly men think that they have done what they wanted to do, they leave the world. Bharati refused to take medicine in his last days. Vivekananda sat in meditation and left the body. Sankara also disappeared. In the case of Gnana sambandar and Andal also we see them merging with the God in their teenage.
Sri RKP explains that they are like salt dolls that went to measure the depth of the sea of bliss. As soon they jump into it they dissolve themselves and become one with the sea. The sea is Ananda Sagara.
Very few saints , even after seeing the mighty ocean of bliss, come back and call every one, please come and enjoy the ocean of bliss. We see this in the verses of great saints.
Bharati, Swami Vivekananda and Sankara explained it and then they jumped into it and merged with the god.
