As a botany student, I love plants. As soon as I see them , I try to identify them with the plants I already know. The plant varieties are immense and so it is not easy to identify them.I noticed White Shoe flower (semparuththi in Tamil; hibiscus rosasinensis).
On our way to Shell Harbour from Sydney, we visited the botanic garden for two hours. It is spread over 27 acres and we covered a small part of it. One good thing about it is, there is no entrance fee or car parking fee. London Kew Gardens has an entrance fee. In London everything is ticketed except British Museum and V & A Museum.
“The Garden is also home to a range of native wildlife including Bower Birds, Ring Tail Possums, Kookaburras, native bees, and more. Escape with a walk through one of the largest rainforest collections in Australia, featuring a range of Illawarra rainforest species.
Open daily, this spectacular 27-hectare space is a serene and beautiful place to relax, celebrate, and learn more about plants and horticulture. Overlooking the city of Wollongong from its highest point at the Gleniffer Brae Manor House it features an impressive collection of native and exotic plants from around the world. The Garden has an exciting array of activities and experiences on offer for visitors of all ages. Regular activities include guided tours, garden workshops, nocturnal walks as well as the popular Sunset Cinema”.
I saw lot of workers watering the plants, clearing the rubbish. The garden is well maintained. Though there were boards indicating the types of gardens, I don’t find the names of individual plants. Perhaps the students are taught at schools.
