To him who considers that body is not Self, what is the need to undertake penances?

It is like tying a golden turban to a corpse and decorating it with exquisite diamond jewellery on the chest.

Having harmonised (various elements of the drama) and holding the strings (of the puppets) of the drama (of Universe) in your hands, to the appreciation of the whole Universe, You make us (Or the Universe) dance without missing even a single beat, isn’t it!

Even after observing limit of (leaving behind at the time of death) –

houses constructed strongly with stones,

super abundant relatives and attendants,

boxes of wealth tied in coarse bags –

O Lord abiding in the heart of this Tyagaraja! Please listen.

How can the pure hearted people remain separated from You, who causes coolness for the eyes (in beholding You), nectar for the ears (in listening to Your stories), taste for tongue (in chanting Your names), comfort for the mind, and bliss for the body!

Is it enjoyable to thump the percussion instrument without even knowing beat and pace? Similarly, it is a piggish behaviour to perform worship without a pure mind.

Recognising the abodes (in the body) of the splendorous seven svaras is indeed liberation;

It is also liberation to remain becoming a knower (of truth) after many births; but,

one endowed with true knowledge (of/and) music together with innate (co-born) devotion is indeed liberated (while still alive);

Devotion together with the nectarine juice of svara and raga, is indeed heaven and also liberation.

Of what avail a crane (and/or) a frog flourishing on the Lotus called Supreme Bliss (of Nada)?

Knowing Nada originating from Muladhara is, indeed the blissful liberation;

sangati – sweet thematic variations – are the words (spoken by the Lord) appropriate to the occasion;
