Pictures -Paintings by Jaimini Roy
After God made your eyes of lotus blue
Took for your teeth white jasmine, shaped the whoe
Face as a better lily, chose the hue
And texture of magnolia for your skin,
He the grew tired of soft things, and within
He carved from flint the impenetrable soul.

Women and Fish
Love goes a-fishing with the rod desire
Baiting his hook with Woman for Delight.
Attracted by the flesh, the men-fish bite.
He hauls them in and cooks them in his fire

Women is Moon
A face to rival the moon,
Eyes that make mockery of lotuses
Complexion eclipting God’s lustre
Thick tresses that shame the black bee
Breast s like elephants swelling losses
Heavy hips,
A voice enchanting and soft
The adornments in maidens is natural.
Woman is a Sweet and Bitter Fruit
No single plant in this world’s garden- plot
Bears such sweet fruit , such bitter fruit as she:
Ambrosial are the apples on her tree
When she is in love, and poison when she is not.
–Bhartruhari
Tamil poet Tiru Valluvar also says Woman is a disease and she is also the medicine for the disease. This is the basis of Homeopathy as well.
பிணிக்கு மருந்து பிறமன் அணியிழை
தன்நோய்க்குத் தானே மருந்து– குறள் 1102:
Disease and medicine antagonists we surely see;
This maid, to pain she gives, herself is remedy.
Another translation
For all illnesses, the medicine is distinct from the disease, but for the pain she causes,
The bejewelled maiden herself is the cure – 1102
“The medicine for a disease is always something different from it : but for the disease caused by this beautiful maid, she herself is the cure”.1102 -Tirukkural
Woman is a Day and a Year
When you are away
A day is a year:
But when you are here
A year is a day
It is in Sanskrit
Sassaamemaasasamaasamaa
Yoyaatayaatayaayaatiyaayaatyaayaatayaatayaa
First line contains no consonants other than s and m, the second line only y and t.
In Sanskrit they don’t leave space between words.
Ancient Tamil verses also written with little space. Only these two languages use Sandhi/ joining rules until this day. It is seen even in day today Tamil newspapers.
