Sri Ramakrishna Swami came to London from India and stayed here for two days. He addressed a small group of people in Harrow on 17-5-2025. After a brief introduction by Mr M Rajagopalan, Swamiji spoke and insisted that Sandhyavandanam is an essential ritual, and one should ask any questions only after doing the basic duty. He insisted that Gayatri recitation will clear many of our doubts. Swamij quoted from many Upanishads and scriptures while answering many questions.

Questions were asked about rituals for the departed souls, a place for doing such Apara karmas, clash of dates in celebrating Hindu festivals between different Mutts as well between Sri Lankans and Indian Tamils. Swamiji answered that he was happy to note they are at least interested in celebrating the festivals and there is nothing wrong in doing it. Even in India different Panchangs are followed in different parts.

Another problem that was raised about cremating dead bodies a week or two after the person’s death. He said that the soul will be released from the place of death when the Karma is done. In India the body is cremated within 24 hours.  He narrated many anecdotes to make his point. Discussion about Advaita and Vishistadvita also came up. Swamiji was a strong follower of Advaita.

Swamiji also related his personal experience in Rishikesh and current ashram or residence in Tamil Nadu. He is widely read and well versed in Hindu scriptures. He has written books in Tamil and English.

He was in London on his way to Scotland from Ireland.

At the end of the session Sri Kalyansundara Sivachariar thanked Swamiji for his speech and Rajagopalan for organising it.

Prasad was distributed at the end.
