ஆங்கில எழுத்து வரிசையில் கொடுக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது ; அதாவது ஏ , பி, சி, டி ………………. என்ற வரிசையில் சொற்கள் வரும்; WORDS ARE GIVEN IN ALPHABETICAL ORDER… A B C D
அஸ்வத்த – அரச மரம் ; வேத காலம் முதல் இந்துக்கள் புனிதமாக வழிபடும் மரம். விஷ்ணு சஹஸ்ர நாமத்தில் ஆலமரம், அரச மரம், அத்தி மரம் ஆகிய மூன்றும் விஷ்ணுவின் பெயர்களாக வருகின்றன.
ASVATTA- Pipal tree, Peepul tree; Ficus Religiosa;
Hindus consider this as a holy tree from Vedic period. Along with this tree two other trees from Ficus genus (Banyan and Fig trees) are Vishnu’s names in Vishnu Sahasranama.

அதிதி – வேதத்தில் கடவுளின் தாயாக ADITHI வருணிக்கப்படும் பெண் தெய்வம் ; பொதுவான சம்ஸ்க்ருத அர்த்தம் – விருந்தாளி ATHITHI ;
(இரண்டும்வெவ்வேறு ஸ்பெல்லிங் உடைய ஸம்ஸ்க்ருதச் சொற்கள்: Aditi; Athithi)
இந்துக்கள் தினமும் விருந்தாளிகளுக்கு உணவு அளிக்க வேண்டும் என்பது கடமை; தமிழிலும் ஸம்ஸ்க்ருத்த்திலும் இதைப் புகழும் பாடல்கள் ஏராளமாக உள்ளன. அதிதி தேவோ பவஹஎன்பது வேத மந்திரம்; அதாவது மாதா, பிதா, குரு ஆகியோருக்கு அடுத்தபடியாக விருந்தினரையும் தெய்வமாகக் கருத வேண்டும். விருந்தோம்பல் என்ற தலைப்பில் பல பாடல்கள் உள்ளன.
ADITI- ATHITHI (both have different meanings)
Aditi (अदिति).—[a-diti], f. The name of a female deity, Chr. 298, 25 = [Rigveda.] 1, 112, 25; the mother of the gods, [Rāmāyaṇa] 3, 20, 15.
Aditi (अदिति).—2. [adjective] boundless, unlimited, infinite; [feminine] infinity, person, as the other of the gods.
Atithi (अतिथि) – meaning guest.

ஆதித்ய – சூரியனுடைய பெயர் ; இந்து மன்னர்கள் சூரியனைத் தனது பெயரில் வைத்துக்கொண்டனர் (ஆதித்த கரிகாலன், விக்ரமாதித்தன் ). பன்னிரு சூர்ய நமஸ்கார பெயர்களில் ஒன்று. (மித்ர, ரவி, சூர்ய, பானு, கக, பூஷண, ஹிரண்யகர்ப, மரீசி, ஆதித்ய, ஸவித்ர, அர்க்க, பாஸ்கர)
AADITYA- Name of Sun God; Hindu kings had sun in their names, E.g. Aditya Karikalan, Vikramadityan etc. It is one of the 12 Surya Namaskara Mantras: Mitra, Ravi, Surya, Bhanu, Khaga, Pushana, Hiranyagarbha, Marichi, Aditya, Savitra, Arka, Bhaskara are the 12 names of Sun God)

ஆசனம் – பொதுவான அர்த்தம் -அமரும், உட்காரும் பலகை , பாய் முதலியன ; யோகா அகராதியில் உடலினை,– கை, கால், தலை முதலிய உறுப்புகளை– வெவ்வேறு வகையில் வைக்கும் முறை.
AASANAM – Yoga posture; general meaning in Sanskrit is a seat, anything to sit on. In Yoga any prescribed posture.
Some examples: Padmaasana, Bhujangaasana, Sirssaasana

ஆத்மா – மனிதன் (தான்); பரமாத்மா = கடவுள், பிரம்மம் . அத்வைத சித்தாந்தப்படி இரண்டும் ஒன்றே; அதை உணராமல் தடுப்பது மாயத் திரை/ மாயை.
AATMAN- The Soul. Individual Self; In Advaita, Self is identified with Brahman/God or Paramaatman . When the Maayaa/illusion is removed it will be known.

ஆத்மவித்யா – உன்னையே நீ அறிவாய் என்னும் தத்துவம், கலை.

பலி – பொது இடத்தில் படைக்கப்படும் சோறு ; யாகத் தீயில் போடப்படுவது ஆஹுதி; வெளியே பிராணிகளுக்கும் பறவைகளுக்கும் படைக்கப்படுவது பலி . கிராமக் கோவில்களில் ஆடு, கோழி முதலியவற்றைக் கொல்வதற்கும் இந்தச் சொல் பயன்படுகிறது ; இந்துக்கள் தினமும் செய்ய வேண்டிய ஐவேள்விகளில்– பஞ்ச யக்ஞங்களில் –சொல்லப்படும் பூத பலி சோறு அல்லது தானியங்கள்- படைப்பதையே குறிக்கும்.
BALI- Offering cooked rice to the birds and beasts is called Bali; part of Five Yajnas of Hindus. Hindus are supposed to offer food or water or grains to five kinds of living beings. It is called Bhuuta yajna in the Pancha Mahaa Yajnaas. When food is offered in fire it is called Aahuti. When it is offered in public places it is called Bali. Temples do this. In Village temples animals are sacrificed and that is also called Bali.

பஸ்மம்- பஸ்மம் என்றால் சாம்பல் என்று பொருள்; சிவனுக்குப் பிரியமான பஸ்மம் பசு மாட்டின் சாணத்திலிருந்து செய்யப்படும்; இதை விபூதி என்று அழைக்கிறோம்.
உடலில் 12 இடங்களில் இதைப் பூசிக்கொள்வது சிவனடியார்களின் மரபு; காலையிலும் மாலையிலும் குளித்துவிட்டு இதைப் பூசிக்கொள்ள வேண்டும்.
BHASMA- Ashes of cow dung are smeared on forehead and body. Devotees of Shiva apply this on 12 places on body parts. Holy ash is called Vibhuuti also. Shiva is fond of ashes.

பில்வம்/ வில்வம் – வில்வம் என்பதை பிறமொழிகளில் பில்வம் என்பார்கள் ப=வ இட மாற்றம் இந்திய மொழிகளில் காணப்படும். இந்த வில்வ மரத்தின் இலைகள் ஒவ்வொரு காம்பிலும் மூன்று இதழ்களாக இருக்கும். சிவ பூஜையில் வில்வத்தைஅதிகமாக பயன்படுத்துகிறோம்
BILVA- in Tamil it is spelt Vilva; B=V are interchangeable. This tree is called Aegle marmelos. Every stem has three leaves. Some varieties have more than three leaves on a single stem. Used in the worship of Shiva
