Famous Tamil writer Dr Jeyamohan has visited Britain to attend many meetings and seminars organised to felicitate him and to discuss his translated stories and novels. His books have been translated into many South Indian languages. Recently he has been awarded an honorary doctorate for his contribution in literature.
The first meeting was held in London on sixth December 2025 at October Gallery in Central London. Over 100 people attended the meeting. His translated works in Malayalam, Telugu, and Kannada were taken for discussion. a panel of scholars including Dr Prameela, Pawan and Giridharan took part in the discussion. The panel discussion was coordinated by Dhanraj. Rajesh compered the whole programme. Meeting began with a prayer by little girl Krivisha.
Meeting was organised by Giridharan Rajagopalan, Dhanraj, Sivakumar, Muthu, Prabhu, Rajesh and many other volunteers.
Earlier young readers Aditya and Ananya analysed his works as found in translation. London Swaminathan former BBC broadcaster, former University Tamil Tutor and author of 154 books was invited to adorn Dr Jeyamohan with a shawl. He was presented a statue of Goddess Sarasvati Devi.
Following the panel discussion Dr Jeyamohan answered the questions from the audience. He dealt with problems in translations, and selling English books in Tamil Nadu. He felt that the South Indian authors are not given due importance in the western world. Their works are seldom translated. To redress such grievances, he is planning to bring together all the famous writers from South India. He said that two big conferences are planned for 2026 and 2027. First such conference of South Indian writers will be held in America next year and another conference in London in 2027. He also said translations of South Indian fiction will be done with the consultation of English writers to make it more appealing to the westerners. Already annual Vishnupuram meetings invite authors from Kannada, Telugu and Malayalam languages.
Prabhu welcomed the participants and Giridharan proposed a vote of thanks.
Towards the end of the meeting, the author was adorned with more shawls on behalf of many South Indian and Sri Lankan organisations based in London.
Ajithan, Dr Jayamohan’s son, who is also an author was felicitated. Both will be attending many more meetings in the north of England and Scotland.
