Sri Veeranarayana Perumal Temple, Kattumannarkoil or Kattumannarkudi.

I visited the temple on 13th March 2026. I could see Y shaped Tenkalai Namam everywhere in the bright sunlight.
This Temple is situated in Kattumannarkoil which is otherwise called as Kattumannarkudi. Its ancient names were Chathurvedimangalam and Veeranarayanapuram. Its situated close to the banks of Veeranarayanapuram Lake which in recent times has gained the name of Veeranam Lake.
Vdeeranam Lake became famous through the Ponniyin Selvan Novel written by Kalki. This is one of the important lakes that supplies drinking water to Chennai area.
Sri Narayana came here as ‘Mannan/King’ to hold the hand of Mahalakshmi, and later asked Nathamunigal to share the Divya Prabandham and the Vaishnava Sampradayam to the world at large, he was referred to as ‘ Kattum – Mannan – Aanaar’ (the God who came as a King and showed the direction) and hence the town later became Kattu Mannar.
The Main Deity Sri Veeranarayana Perumal is facing East in a standing posture. His Consort is Sri Maragathavalli Thaayar and found in a separate Shrine.

Goddess Mahalakshmi was born to Jhirumbana Raja Maharishi as per his prayers. When She attained the marriageable age, a Swayamvaram was conducted and Sri Narayanan Himself, came in His Garuda Vaahana, picked Her up, defeating other Kings . Since Shriman Narayanan showed Valour (veeram) here, He came to be called Sri Veera Narayana Perumal.
This is the place where Vaishnavite saints Sri Natha Muni and Alavandar were born. Nathamunikal compiled 4000 poems sung by Alvars and the anthology is called Nalayira Divy Prabandham . Withot his work, we would have lost all the valuable devotional songs.

Temple has many shrines for Narasimha, Varaha Murti, Mathanga Muni etc.
Main shrine has Vishnu with Sri Devi and Bhu Devi. Maragatha Valli is in separate shrine.

கடலூர் மாவட்டம் காட்டுமன்னார் கோவிலில் அமைந்துள்ள வீரநாராயணப் பெருமாள் கோயில், நாலாயிர திவ்ய பிரபந்தத்தைத் தொகுத்த நாதமுனிகள் அவதரித்த சிறப்புமிக்க வைணவத் தலம்.
நான் இந்தக் கோவிலுக்கு2026 மார்ச் 13 ஆம் தேதி சென்று தரிசனம் செய்தேன்.
இறைவன் வீரநாராயணப் பெருமாளாக அருள்பாலிக்கும் இக்கோயிலில், நாலாயிர திவ்ய பிரபந்தம் அரங்கேற்றப்பட்டது, பாண்டியர் மற்றும் கோப்பெருஞ்சிங்கன் கல்வெட்டுகள் உள்ளன,
சிறப்பம்சங்கள்:
மூலவர்: வீரநாராயணப் பெருமாள் (பஞ்சமுக நாராயணன்).
வரலாறு: நாதமுனிகள் நாலாயிர திவ்ய பிரபந்தத்தை தொகுத்து உலகிற்கு வழங்கிய இடம்.
பெயர்க்காரணம்: நாதமுனிகளுக்கு பெருமாள் காட்சி கொடுத்த இடமாதலால், ‘காட்டுமன்னார் கோயில்’ (காட்டிய மன்னார் கோயில்) என அழைக்கப்படுகிறது.
கல்வெட்டுகள்: மாறவர்மன் விக்கிரம பாண்டியன், கோப்பெருஞ்சிங்கன் காலத்துக் கல்வெட்டுகள் உள்ளன.
ஸ்ரீதேவி, பூதேவி உடன் பெருமாள் காட்சி தருகிறார்; இக்கோயில் பாஞ்சராத்ர ஆகம தென்கலை சம்பிரதாய கோயிலாகும். இக்கோயிலின் மூலவர் வீரநாராயணப் பெருமாள், தாயார் பெயர் மரகதவல்லி. உற்சவருக்கு ராஜகோபாலன் என்றும் தாயாருக்கு மகாலட்சுமி என்றும் திருநாமம் உள்ளது.

தல விருச்சம் : அடுக்கு நந்தியாவட்டை
தல தீர்த்தம் : தேவ புஷ்கர்ணி.
இக்கோயிலின் எதிரே உள்ள தீர்த்தத்தின் பெயர் வேத புஷ்கரணி. இக்கோயிலின் தலவிருட்சம் அடுக்கு நந்தியாவட்டை . இக்கோயிலில் நரசிம்மரையும் வராகரையும் நாம் தரிசிக்கலாம்.
வீரநாராயண பெருமாள் கோவிலில் மதங்க மாமுனிவருக்கு அருளிய இடமாதலால் மதங்காசரமம் என்றும் பெயர் உள்ளது. ஆண்டு தோறும் சித்திரை மாதத்தில் பிரம்மோற்சவம் மிகவும் சிறப்பாக நடைபெறுவது வழக்கம்.
ஸ்ரீமத் நாதமுனிகள் ,அவரது பேரர் யமுனைத்துறைவர் என்று அழைக்கப்பட்ட ஸ்ரீ ஆளவந்தார் ஆகிய இருவரும் அவதாரம் செய்த தலம் இது. -பெருமாள் சன்னதியின் வலது புறம் யோக நரசிம்மர் இருக்கிறார்.
ஸ்ரீமந் நாதமுனிகள் சோழநாட்டில் தற்போது கடலூர் மாவட்டம், சிதம்பரம் வட்டத்திலுள்ள காட்டுமன்னார்குடி என்ற வீரநாராயணபுரத்தில், CE 823ல் சோபகிருது வருடம் ஆனி மாதம் 7ம் தேதி புதன்கிழமை பெளர்ணமி திதி கூடிய அனுஷ நட்சத்திரத்தில் அவதரித்தார்.
அதன் பழங்காலப் பெயர்கள் சதுர்வேதிமங்கலம் மற்றும் வீரநாராயணபுரம். சமீப காலமாக வீராணம் ஏரி என்ற பெயரைப் பெற்ற வீரநாராயணபுரம் ஏரியின் கரைக்கு அருகில் அமைந்திருக்கிறது. மஹாலக்ஷ்மியின் கரம் பிடிக்க நாராயணர் ‘மன்னனாக’ இங்கு வந்து, பின்னர் நாதமுனிகளிடம் திவ்யப் பிரபந்தத்தையும் வைணவ சம்பிரதாயத்தையும் உலகுக்குப் பகிருமாறு கேட்டுக் கொண்டார், அவர் ‘காட்டும் – மன்னன் – ஆனார்’ (இறைவன்). அரசனாக வந்து திசை காட்டினான்) அதனால் ஊர் பின்னாளில் காட்டு மன்னார் ஆனது.
ஸ்ரீ வீரநாராயணப் பெருமாள் கிழக்கு நோக்கி நின்ற கோலத்தில் காட்சி தருகிறார். இவரது துணைவி ஸ்ரீ மரகதவல்லி தாயார் தனி சன்னதியில் காணப்படுகிறார். ஜிரும்பன ராஜா மகரிஷியின் வேண்டுதலின்படி மஹாலக்ஷ்மி தேவி பிறந்தாள். அவள் திருமண வயதை அடைந்ததும், ஒரு சுயம்வரம் நடத்தப்பட்டு, பகவான் நாராயணனே, தன் கருட வாகனத்தில் வந்து, அவளைத் தூக்கிக் கொண்டு, தன்னைத் தாக்கிய மற்ற மன்னர்களை முறியடித்தார். ஸ்ரீமன் நாராயணன் இங்கு வீரம் (வீரம்) காட்டியதால், அவர் வீர நாராயண பெருமாள் என்று அழைக்கப்பட்டார்.
நாலாயிர திவ்ய பிரபந்தம் இசையோடு பாடப்பெற்ற தலம். மற்றும் நாத முனிகள் மற்றும் ஆளவந்தான் அவதார தலம் .
இவ்வூரில் அமைந்துள்ள வீராணம் ஏரி மிகவும் புகழ்பெற்றது . கடல் போல் காட்சியளிக்கும் இந்த வீராணம் ஏரியை கட்டியது முதலாம் பராந்தக சோழன் ஆவார் . அமரர் கல்கி எழுதிய புகழ்பெற்ற பொன்னியின் செல்வன் புதினத்தில் இந்த வீராணம் ஏரி பற்றி விவரித்துள்ளார்.
கோவிலின் மற்றோர் சிறப்பு சுவர், கிணறு, கோபுரம் முதலி ய எல்லா இடங்களிலும் தென்கலை நாமங்கள் ! அவை மார்ச் மாத வெய்யிலில் இன்னும் பிரகாசமாகத் தெரிந்தன ; இவ்வளவு நாமங்களை வேறு எங்கும் கண்டதில்லை !
