Gangotri temple opens

The portals of the Gangotri temple in the Himalayas opened here YESTERDAY with a simple ceremony

being held amid COVID-19 restrictions..

Temple priests and a few members of the administration were among the select few who attended the opening ceremony.

The temple gates were opened at 7:31 am on the occasion of ‘Akshay Tritiya’ amid the chanting of

Vedic hymns and special prayers, Gangotri temple priest Ravindra Semwal said

Soon after the opening of the temple, the first puja was performed on behalf of Prime Minister

 Narendra Modi, he added.

While the Yamunotri temple opened on May 14, Kedarnath will open on May 17 and Badrinath on May 18.

Om Namah Shivaya’: Israelis show solidarity with India amid raging Covid wave

As India continues to battle the second wave of the Covid-19 pandemic, many countries have come forward to show solidarity and offer help. Amid the aid and wishes pouring in from around the world, a video of people in Israel chanting ‘Om Namah Shivaya’ for the well-being of the country has gone viral on social media.

The video was shared by Pawan K Pal, an Indian diplomat in Israel, on his Instagram page, along with

a caption that read, “When whole Israel unites to give you a ray of hope.” In the clip, which has now garnered over one lakh views, hundreds of people are seen sitting at Habima Square in Tel Aviv and chanting the mantra.

Once shared online, it did not take long for the clip to go viral and be flooded with people commenting on the post. “Thank you, Israel 🇮🇱💗 This is a beautiful gesture 🥺. Good to see Israel is covid free,” read one

of the many comments on the viral clip.

RSS launches campaign to counter Covid ‘Dooms Dayers’

People, Government Became Negligent After First Covid Wave”: RSS Chief

Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat said today that amid these testing times of the Covid pandemic, society must remain hopeful.

Taking part in a webinar — “Positivity Unlimited” — organised in the context of the pandemic, Bhagwat said,

“The pandemic is testing our patience and character. We will come out triumphant.” He said India had

come out of many difficult situations in the past. “We should forget our differences. It is not the time for fault-finding,” said the Sangh chief. Pitching for helping the needy, he said, “We have to ensure poor people get food.”

Bhagwat called for caution and adherence to Covid-appropriate behaviour. He said the present situation arose as “we took things lightly after the first wave”. “Experts had cautioned about the second wave, but we became lax,”

he said.

On experts predicting a third wave, he urged people to be prepared for a good fight. “We have to win,” he said. 

Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) has launched a massive nationwide campaign to provide relief to victims as well as counter an atmosphere of “negativity”.

The RSS’ Sar Karyavah (general secretary) Dattatreya Hosabale had recently cautioned that anti-Indian elements could take advantage of the prevailing situation in wake of the second Covid-19 wave that has brutally impacted the country. 

Thus the RSS has decided to consciously promote and propagate positive developments and success stories around Covid-19.

This talk series is the first of its kind. Before the finale it would be preceded by a series of addresses by a number of spiritual gurus and well-known personalities such as Jaggi Vasudev, Sri Sri Ravi Shankar.

The talk is being organised under the banner of a newly formed forum called Covid Response Team (CRT), which is headed by Retired Lt Gen. Gurmeet Singh.

Indian-American diaspora hold rallies against post-poll violence in West Bengal

Protestors carried placards reading “Hindu Lives Matter”, “Protest Against Hindu Genocide” to draw attention to the killings that followed soon after the poll results.

Non-resident Indians, including the Bengali diaspora, have staged protests in more than 30 American cities, condemning the post-poll result violence in West Bengal.

Several incidents of violence were reported in West Bengal after the announcement of assembly poll results

on May 2.

Protestors carried placards reading “Hindu Lives Matter”, “Protest Against Hindu Genocide” to draw attention to the killings that followed soon after the poll results.

Judhajit Senmazumdar, a technology entrepreneur from Silicon Valley who frequently travels to Bengal, said

“After the results were announced, my friends and I got frantic calls for help from people facing targeted

attacks; shops were being looted and bombs were being thrown inside houses,”

The anguish coalesced into a spontaneous protest in the major cities of the US, the UK and many other locations.

Widespread protests across US, Canada, UK, Nigeria, Thailand, etc demanding “Mamata StopViolence,” 

The protestors demanded “justice and a probe” into the widespread violence in West Bengal.

“My mind recoils at the manner in which Hindu women have been dragged by the hair, flung on the floor, battered and raped,” said Houston-based author Sahana Singh.

The TMC, however, has denied the charges.

Chief Minister Banerjee had earlier asked people to show restraint and not be involved in any form of violence.

Saffron flags and posters appeared in Basingstoke in the United Kingdom with ‘Demonstration against the

genocide of Hindus’ and ‘Hindu Lives Matter’.

Blow conch shells to keep Covid at bay say Yoga experts

THIS IS A NEWS REPORT FROM ASSAM TRIBUNE NEWSPAPER.

Yoga experts are now advising people to blow conch shells in order to strengthen the respiratory system.

The age-old practice of blowing conch shells, known as ‘shankha’, after prayers, is said to help in fighting

Covid by enhancing the lung power.

Yoga expert, Ratan Sinha of Prayagraj, said, “Blowing a conch shell is a part of Hindu and Buddhist tradition. Our elders blew the ‘shankh’ regularly and their lungs were strong. They rarely suffered from respiratory problems.

On Sinha’s advice, people in three Lucknow neighbourhoods at Stanley Road, Darbhanga and Civil Lines area have started blowing conch shells on a regular basis.

 “At 6.a.m every day, we start blowing the ‘shankh’ in our houses and everyone joins in form the confines of their homes, said G.P. Singh, an octogenarian who lives on Stanley Road.

He insisted that the blowing of conch shells also dispels all the negative energy in the surroundings.

The members of the group admit that there is NO scientific evidence to prove that blowing conch shells helps prevent Covid-19 but they say it definitely helps one in lung exercise.

Leicestershire crematorium is first in Britain to have a dedicated shrine to Shiva

A Leicestershire crematorium is believed to be the first in the country to have a dedicated shrine to

Shiva as part of its commitment to serve the diverse local community.  Great Glen Crematorium is part of Westerleigh Group, the UK’s biggest independent owner and operator of crematoria and cemeteries,

with 35 sites nationwide. The white marble statue of Shiva was donated by local businessman Sailesh Raja.

“Most crematoriums have temporary shrines, but I believe this was the first to have a permanent one. Everyone who has heard about this is very appreciative; people have told me that because of this, their first approach for cremation will be Great Glen Crematorium, said Sailesh Raja.

Swami Omkarananda, Vedic scholar attains Siddhi

Vedic scholar Swami Omkarananda , an authority on Thirukkural and many other Tamil scriptures and

founder of Sri Swami Chidbhavananda Ashramam at Theni, passed away on Monday at a private hospital at Madurai.  He was undergoing treatment for coronavirus infection. Swami Omkarananda has also been

the pontiff of Sri Bhuvaneswari Avadhuta Vidyapitham at Pudukottai. 

Swami’s mortal remains were laid to rest in front of his Ashramam at Theni according to Sastras on Monday

night itself.

According to the Ashramam sources, Swami Omkarananda, when he was alive, chose the place for his

Samadhi and gave directions to his disciples on how he should be laid to rest. Special poojas and other

rituals will be arranged in the coming 10 days, they said.  

Born as Manoharan alias Goshteswara Sharma to Vaidyanatha Ganapadi and Alamelu Ammal near Porur, Coimbatore in 1956, he was attracted to the works of Swami Vivekananda, Bhagavad Gita, Upanishads and other scriptures at a very young age.

Born in a family steeped in tradition and culture, he adopted the Vedic lifestyle from an early age. An erudite scholar par excellence, he was well versed in both the Vedas. His eloquence and mastery, both in Tamil and

Sanskrit, have earned accolades and words of praise, from learned Pandits across the country.

In 1979, he left home and remained in meditation for 21 days in a hillock near Karamadai near Coimbatore.

During this period, he took a firm decision to become a monk. Swami had the Sanyasa Diksha (initiation into spiritual life) from Swami Chidbhavananda,  founder of the Sri Ramakrishna Tapovanam, Thirupparaithurai who gave him the name Swami Omkarananda. 

Later, Swami Omkarananda studied Vedanta under Pujyasri Swami Paramarthananda, one of the foremost

disciples of Swami Dayananda Saraswati. For over the past 30 years, he has been spreading the Vedantic

teachings, in spiritual camps held across the globe.

Swami has established Vedanta Sasthra Prachara Trust, through which he trains his students and devotees, on the spiritual ways of life. He expounded the essence of some of the sacred texts in Tamil, such as Thevaram, Thiruvachakam, Thirumandiram, Thayumanavar’s hymns, Bharatiyar’s songs and Thirukkural, in particular.

Devotees of Swamiji in London and abroad paid homage in a special programme held yesterday via zoom

துறைமங்கலம் ஸ்ரீ சிவப்பிரகாச சுவாமிகள்!

துறைமங்கலம் ஸ்ரீ சிவப்பிரகாச சுவாமிகள் தமிழ் மீது அளவற்ற காதல் கொண்ட சிவபக்தர். இவரைப் பற்றிய சுருக்கமான வரலாறு இங்கு தரப்படுகிறது.

காஞ்சிபுரத்தில் வேளாளர் மரபில் குமாரசாமி தேசிகர் என்பவர் குருவாக விளங்கி வந்தார். இவருக்கு சிவப்பிரகாசர், வேலையர், கருணைப்பிரகாசர், ஞானாம்பிகை என நான்கு மக்கள் பிறந்தனர். சிவப்பிரகாசரின் இளமைப் பருவத்திலேயே அவரது தந்தையாரான குமாரசாமி தேசிகர் மறைந்தார்.

அதன் பின்னர் அவர், தமது சகோதரர்களோடு திருவண்ணாமலை சென்றார். அங்கு தெற்கு வீதி திருமடத்தில் இருந்து கற்க வேண்டிய அனைத்து நூல்களையும் கற்றுத் தேர்ந்தார். இயற்கையிலேயே கவி பாடும் ஆற்றல் அவருக்கு அமைந்திருந்தது.

பின்னர், பெரம்பலூர் அருகில் உள்ள துறைமங்கலம் சென்று அங்கு சிவ பூஜையைச் சிறப்பாகச் செய்து வந்தார். அந்த ஊரின் பிரமுகரான அண்ணாமலை ரெட்டியார் அவரிடம் பெரிதும் ஈடுபாடு கொண்டார். அங்கேயே இருக்குமாறு அவர் வேண்ட அப்படியே சில காலம் அங்கிருந்தார் சிவப்பிரகாசர்.

பின்னர் திருநெல்வேலிக்கு அருகில் உள்ள சிந்துபூந்துறையில வாழ்ந்து வந்த தருமபுர ஆதீன வெள்ளியம்பல சுவாமிகளிடம் இலக்கண இலக்கியம் கற்க வேண்டும் என்ற ஆசையுடன் அவரை அணுகினார். அவரது தமிழறிவை சோதிக்க எண்ணிய ஆதீனம் ஒரு பரிட்சையை வைத்தார்.

“‘கு’வில் ஆரம்பித்து ‘கு’ என்ற எழுத்தில் முடிய வேண்டும். இடையில் ‘ஊருடையான்’ என்ற சொல் வர வேண்டும். இறைவனைப் புகழ்ந்து ஒரு பாடல் பாடுக” என்றார் அவர்.

உடனே சிவப்பிரகாசர்,

“குடக்கோடு வானெயிறு கொண்டாற்குக் கேழல்

முடக்கோடு முன்னமணி வாற்கு – வடக்கோடு

தேருடையான் தெவ்வுக்குத் தில்லைதோல் மேற்கொள்ளல்

ஊருடையான் என்னும் உலகு” என்னும் வெண்பாவை இயற்றிக் காட்டினார்.

இதனால் பெரிதும் மகிழ்ந்த ஆதீனகர்த்தர் அவருக்கு முறையாக இலக்கண பாடங்களைக் கற்பித்தார்.

இதற்கிடையில் அவரது குருவான வெள்ளியம்பல சுவாமிகளை அவமதித்த புலவரை திருச்செந்தில் நிரோட்டக யமக அந்தாதி பாடி, வாதில் வென்று அவரை அடிமையாக்கித் தன் குருநாதரிடம் அழைத்துக் கொண்டு வந்து ஒப்படைத்தார்.

அண்ணாமலை ரெட்டியார் அவரை மணமுடிக்குமாறு வேண்டினார். ஆனால் அதற்கு சிவப்பிரகாசர் உடன்படவில்லை.

“சேய்கொண்டா ருங்கமலச் செம்மலுட னேயரவப்

பாய் கொண்டானும் பணியும் பட்டீச்சுரத்தானே                    நோய்கொண்டா லுங்கொள்ளலாம் நூறுவய தளவிருந்து             பேய்கொண்டாலுங் கொளலாம் பெண்கொள்ளல் ஆகாதே”

என்று பாடி  தனது நிலையை உணர்த்தினார்.

ஆனால் அவரது தம்பிகள் திருமணம் செய்து கொள்ள இசைந்தனர். அவர்களுக்கு மணமுடித்து வைத்தார்.

இவர் இயற்றிய நூல்கள் ஏராளம். சுமார் 34 நூல்கள் பற்றி நமக்குத் தெரிய வந்துள்ளது.

கற்பனைக் களஞ்சியம் என்றும் கவி சார்வ பௌமா என்றும் நன்னெறிப் பிரகாசர் என்றும் இவர் போற்றிப் புகழப்படுகிறார். பதினேழாம் நூற்றாண்டில் வாழ்ந்த இவர் 32 ஆண்டுகளே வாழ்ந்து சிவபதம் அடைந்தார். வாழ்வின் இறுதிக் காலத்தில், புதுச்சேரிக்கு மேற்கே 16 கி.மீ. தொலைவிலுள்ள நல்லாற்றுாரில் தங்கியிருந்து அங்கேயே அடக்கமுற்றார்.

ஆகவே நல்லாற்றுார்ச் சிவப்பிரகாசர் என்ற பெயராலும் இவர் வழங்கப் பெறுகிறார். 

இவர் இயற்றிய நூல்கள் பற்றிய விவரம்:-

திருச்செந்தில் நிரோட்டக யமக அந்தாதி

இந்த நூல் பற்றிய கட்டுரை தனியே வெளியிடப்பட்டுள்ளது. அதைக் காணவும்.

இயேசு மத நிராகரணம்

இந்த நூல் கிறிஸ்தவ மதக் கொள்கைகளை ஆதாரங்களுடன் மறுக்கும் நூல். இது இப்போது கிடைக்கப் பெறவில்லை. சிவப்பிரகாசர், ராபர்ட் டி நோபிளுடன் வாதம் புரிந்ததாகச் சிலர் கூறுவர்; இல்லை வீரமாமுனிவருடன் அவர் வாதம் புரிந்தார் என்று மாறுபட்ட கருத்தும் கூறப்படுகிறது.

நால்வர் நான்மணி மாலை

சைவ சமயக் குரவர்களான திருஞானசம்பந்தர், திருநாவுக்கரசர், சுந்தரர், மாணிக்கவாசகர் ஆகிய நால்வரைப் போற்றி எழுதப்பட்ட நூல் நான்மணி மாலை. காப்புச் செய்யுள், திருஞானசம்பந்தரைப் போற்றி 10 நேரிசை வெண்பாக்கள், திருநாவுக்கரசரைப் போற்ரி 10 கட்டளைக் கலித்துறைப் பாடல்கள், சுந்தரரைப் போற்றி 10 அறுசீர்க் கழிநெடிலடி ஆசிரிய விருத்தங்கள், மாணிக்கவாசகரைப் போற்றி 10 நேரிசை ஆசிரியப்பாக்கள் ஆகியவற்றைக் கொண்டது இந்த நூல். எடுத்துக்காட்டிற்கு கீழே 4 பாடல்கள் தரப்படுகின்றன.

மின்னெறி சடாமுடி விநாயகன் அடிதொழ

என்ற கடவுள் வாழ்த்துடன் இன்னும் 40 நேரிசை வெண்பாக்களைக் கொண்டது இந்த நூல். எடுத்துக்காட்டிற்கு ஒரு வெண்பாவைப் பார்ப்போம். (36வது வெண்பா)

முதல் இரண்டு அடிகளில் தான் கூற வந்த கருத்தைக் கூறும் இவர் அடுத்த இரு அடிகளில் அதற்கான தக்க உவமை ஒன்றைக் கூறித் தன் கருத்தை விளக்குவது படிப்போர்க்கு இன்பம் பயக்கும்.

தக்கார்க்கே ஈவர் தகார்க்கு அளிப்பார் இல்என்று
மிக்கார்க்கு உதவார் விழுமியோர்–எக்காலும்
நெல்லுக்கு இறைப்பதே நீரன்றிக் காட்டுமுளி

இந்த நூல் 25 கதிகளைக் கொண்டது. 1158 பாடல்கள் இதில் உள்ளன. கற்பனை வளம் நிரம்பிய இந்த நூல் அரிய பல உண்மைகளைத் தெளிவுற விளக்கும் நூல். அனைவரும் விரும்பிப் படிக்கும் நூல் இது.

சோணசைல மாலை

திருவண்ணாமலையில் இருந்த போது இயற்றப்பட்ட நூல் இது.

சிவஞான பாலைய தேசிகர் நெஞ்சு விடு தூது,

நெஞ்சு விடு தூது என்பது 96 பிரபந்த வகைகளில் தூது பற்றிய நூல் ஆகும். உமாபதி சிவம் உள்ளிட்ட பெரியோர் பலரும் நெஞ்சைத் தூதாக விட்டு நூல்கள் இயற்றியுள்ளனர். சிவபிரகாசரும் தூது நூல்களில் ஒன்றாக அமையும் இந்த சிவஞான பாலைய தேசிகர் நெஞ்சு விடு தூது என்னும் நூலை இயற்றியுள்ளார்.

சுவாமிஜியின் அன்பர்கள் இந்த நிகழ்ச்சியை ஏற்பாடு செய்தனர். பல அன்பர்கள் இந்நிகழ்ச்சியில் ZOOM, FACEBOOK.COM வழியாககலந்து கொண்டு சுவாமிகளுக்கு புகழஞ்சலி செலுத்தினர்.

 லண்டனிலிருந்து சனிக்கிழமை மே 15-ம் தேதி ஒளி பரப்பான ஸ்ரீ ஓம்காராநந்தா அஞ்சலி நிகழ்ச்சியில் எனது  இரண்டு பழைய கட்டுரைகளை வாசித்தேன் (இணைப்பில் காண்க)

லண்டனில் நான் கற்ற பாடம் – என்ற தலைப்பில் 2017-ம் ஆண்டில் இந்த பிளாக்கில் எழுதிய விஷயத்தையும் ZOOM (Z சூம்) ஒளிபரப்பில் சொன்னேன் .

லண்டனில் நான் கற்ற பாடம்………..

“பல ஆண்டுகளுக்கு முன்னர் மதுரை மாவட்டம் தேனியில் இருந்து சுவாமி ஓம்காரானந்தா வந்தார். அவர் இரு முறை லண்டனுக்கு வந்த போதும் நான் சார்ந்திருந்த அமைப்புகள் மூலம் பல இடங்களில் கூட்டங்கள் ஏற்பாடு செய்தேன் அவர் பெரிய தத்துவ வித்தகர். உண்மைச் சாமியார்; நான் கூட்டம் ஏற்பாடு செய்த கோவில்களில் ஒன்று லூயிஷாம் என்னும் இடத்திலுள்ள சிவன் கோவில்; இலங்கைத் தமிழர்களால் சிறப்பாக நடத்தப்படும் கோவில்.

ஒரு கூட்டம் ஏற்பாடு செய்தால் அதற்கு முதல் நாள் அவர்களுக்கு நினைவுபடுத்தி “எப்போது அழைத்து வரலாம், எவ்வளவு நேரம் பேச வேண்டும், என்ன வயதுக்கார ர்கள்? எவ்வளவு பேர் வருவார்கள் என்று எதிர் பார்க்கிறீர்கள்? என்றெல்லாம் விசாரித்து பேச்சாளர்களுக்கு சொல்லுவது என் வழக்கம். அதன்படி சிவன் கோவில் நிகழ்ச்சிப் பொறுப்பாளரை டெலிபோனில் அழைத்து விசாரித்தேன்.

“தம்பி நாளை காலை பத்து மணிக்கு சுவாமிகள் பேசலாம். பின்னர் கேள்விகள் கேட்டால் பதில் சொல்லட்டும் ஒரு மணி நேரம் அல்லது ஒன்றரை மணி நேரம் இருந், தால் போதும்; அப்புறம் கோவில் நிர்வாகிகளும் குருக்கள்களும் மரியாதை செய்வார்கள் என்றார். யார் வருகிறார்கள் என்று கேட்டேன்.

“அதுவா, நம்ம தமிழ் ஸ்கூல் பிள்ளைகள்தான். ஆரம்ப வகுப்பு முதல் பள்ளி இறுதிப் படிப்பு வரை படிக்கும் மாணவ மாணவியர். ஆனால் பெருமளவு சின்னக் குழந்தைகள்தான்” என்றார்.

எனக்கு தூக்கிவாரி போட்டது. டெலிபோனில் அதைக் காட்டவா முடியும்? பெரிய பதட்டத்துடன் “அடக் கடவுளே, அவர் பெரிய அறிஞர். வேதங்கள், உபநிஷத்துகள், கீதை பற்றி பெரியோர்களுக்காக பேசக்கூடியவர். அரிய வாய்ப்பை நழுவவிடுகிறீர்களே” — என்றேன்.

அவரோ நிதானமாக ,

“தம்பி; நீங்கள் அவர் ஒரு நல்ல , உண்மையான சந்யாசி என்று சொன்னதால்தான் இப்படி செய்திருக்கிறேன். எங்கள் பிள்ளைகள் பார்ப்பது எல்லாம் சினிமாவில்—தெய்வீகத்  திரைப்படங்களில் வரும் நடிப்பு சந்யாசிகளைத் தான் பார்த்திருக்கிறார்கள்; நிஜ வாழ்விலும் இப்படி மனிதர்கள் இருக்கிறார்கள் என்பது அவர்களுக்குத் தெரியாது. நாங்கள் சொல்லினால் விளக்கி புரியவும் வைக்க முடியாது. ஆகையால் கூப்பிட்டுக் கொண்டு வாருங்கள் அவரைப் பார்த்தால் போதும். அவர் எதுவும் பேசலாம்; ஆசியைகளுக்கும் கோவிலுக்கு வரும் மற்ற பெரியோர்களுக்கும் அறிவித்திருக்கிறோம் அவர்களும் வருவார்கள்” என்றார்.

என் கண்களில் நீர் வராத குறைதான். அவருடைடய அணுகுமுறை என் உள்ளத்தை உருக்கிவிட்டது. நானும் ஒரு பாடம் கற் றேன். ஒரு தனி மனிதன் நல்லவனாக இருந்தால், ஆன்மீக வாதியாக இருந்தால் அவருடைய தோற்றம் எத்தனை இளம் உள்ளங்களின் அடி மனதில் — பிஞ்சுப் பருவத்தில் – பதியும் என்று அந்த கோவில் நிர்வாகிக்கு இருந்த அனுபவ அறிவு எனக்கு இல்லாததை உண ர்ந்தேன்.

சுவாமிகளும் எல்லா வயதினரையும் வசப்படுத்தும் — பரவசப்படுத்தும் — அருளுரை வழங்கினார்.

தமிழுக்கும் ஸம்ஸ்க்ருதத்துக்கும் மூலம் ஒன்றே என்று காஞ்சி பரமாசார்ய சுவாமிகள் ஒரு சொற்பொழிவில் கூறுகிறார். அவருக்கு சில நூறு ஆண்டுகளுக்கு முன்னர் பரஞ்சோதி முனிவர், சிவஞான முனிவர் ஆகியோரும் அதையே செப்பினர். நான் இவ்விரண்டு மொழிகளிலிருந்துதான் உலக மொழிகள் தோன்றின என்று நூற்றுக்கும் மேலான கட்டுரைகள் எழுதியுள்ளேன். இதோ மேலும் ஒரு சான்று

ப்ருத்  என்பதை பெரிது என்ற பொருளில் பாணினி இந்த சூத்திரத்தில் கொடுக்கிறார் .

ப்ருத் = பெரிது = பிக் / ஆங்கிலம்

ம்ரதிமா = ம்ருது = மெது = மென்மை = மெத் = மெத்தை = மேட்ரஸ் /ஆங்கிலம்

Panini says Guna Vachana, Brahmana, Karma

All these words are used in Tamil until this day

Guna, Karma are in Sangam literature and Tirukkural.

Valluvar, author of Tirukkural, was a great Sanskrit scholar.

He was bold enough to use the Sanskrit word Gunam as the initial word in a Kural.

It is used in other ancient Tamil literature too.

குண வசன ப்ராஹ்மண கர்ம — ஆகிய 4 சொற்கள் 2700 ஆண்டுகளுக்கு முன்னரே பயன்பட்டது. இன்றும் நாம் அதை உபயோகிக்கிறோம்.

தமிழ்ப் புலவர்களில் திருவள்ளுவர் மஹா மேதை. மாபெரும் ஸம்ஸ்க்ருத பண்டிதன். வள்ளுவன் துணிச்ச்சலாக தானம் தவம் என்ற பகவத் கீதை சொற்களை குறளில் முதல் சொற்களாக பயன்படுத்துவான்

தானம் தவமிரண்டும் ………………………….

அதே போல துணிச்சலாக

குணம் என்னும் குன்றேறி நின்றார் ……………………………..

என்று பாடுகிறான்.

பாணினியும், பகவான் கிருஷ்ணனும் பயன்படுத்தும் கர்ம என்ற சொல்லையும் மஹா சம்ஸ்க்ருத மேதையான  திருவள்ளுவன் பயன் படுத்துகிறான். நாமோ  தினமும் சினிமா வசனம் பற்றிப் பேசுகிறோம்.

என்ன ஆச்சர்யம், 2700 ஆண்டுகளாக நம் நாக்கிலும் வள்ளுவன் நாக்கிலும் ஸம்ஸ்க்ருதம் நடமிடுகிறது.

இந்த சூத்திரத்தில் 2400 ஆண்டுகளுக்கு முன்னர் வார்த்திக நோட்ஸ் / குறிப்புகள் எழுதிய காத்யாயன வரருசி ஒரு முக்கியமான வரியை மேலும் ஒரு இலக்கண ஈடுத்துக்காட்டாக விளம்புகிர்றார். அதுவும் பகவத் கீதை வரியே.

சாதுர் வர் ண்யம் = 4 ஜாதிகள்

இது பாணினிக்கும் காத்யாயனருக்கும் உள்ள கால இடைவெளியைக் காட்டுகிறது. பாணினி இப்படி ஜாதிகளை சேர்த்து குறிப்பிடுவதில்லை. ஆனால் தனித்தனியே மொழிகிறார்.

இந்த நால் வகை ஜாதிகள் புறநானூற்றில் 2000 ஆண்டுகளுக்கு முன்னரே உளது. புற நானூற்றில் ஜாதி –183

நால் வகை வருணம் – சிலம்பு 6-164, , 14-183; மணி .6-56

நால் வேறு தெரு – மது. 522; சிலம்பு- 14/212, 22/110

தானம் – குறள் 19, 295

தவம் – பத்து குறள்களில் வருகிறது

குணம் – தொல் .2-416-2; 3-230-1; புறம்-55; குறள் – 9, 29, 504, 1125.

சங்க இலக்கியத்தில் குணம், குணன் ஆகிய சொற்கள் மேலும் பல இடங்களில் வருகிறது.

கருமம் – தொல் .3-1214, 502-2;புறம்-104-5; , குறள் – 266, 467, 505, 578, 818, 1011, 1021

சிலப்பதிகாரம், மணிமேகலையில் நிறைய இடங்களில் வருகிறது

THIS IS WRITTEN FOR LONDON SCHOOL CHILDREN AND MAY BE USED IN OTHER COUNTRIES AS WELL. I WILL POST MY SUMMARY ON HINDU GODS ONE BY ONE. LORD GANESH , SKANDA/MURUGA  AND LORD SHIVA ARE ALREADY POSTED HERE. THIS IS THE FOURTH  ESSAY IN THE SERIES.

Parvati is the consort/ wife of Lord Shiva and mother of Ganesh (Pillaiyaar) and Skanda (Murugan). She is known as Devi and by several other names like her husband Shiva

Parvati means mountain woman. Her father was from the Himalaya mountains. He had mountain emblem in his flag. Parvati has other names such as Bhagavathi, Ambaa, Maa, Jagan Maathaa, Bhavaani, Shivaani, Umaa and Kaali or Durgaa.

In her normal form she is Paarvati. But when she wants to finish bad people she takes arms in her hands and kill the bad people. At that time, she is called Kaali or Durgaa. Her famous temples are in 51 places in India and outside India. By worshipping her, our bad thoughts will go away.

During Nine Nights Festival, that is Nava raatri festival, all the temples decorate her in different ways and different forms. On the tenth day ‘Vijaya Dasami’ (Dasaraah) she kills the Asura. She killed a buffalo headed demon called Mahisaasura. This famous scene is everywhere in India.

She rides a tiger or a lion. That means she can control even the wild animals. She has up to 16 hands. That shows her power. Her two hands can do 16 hand jobs at the same time as your mother. She helps her children, her husband and does household jobs like cooking and cleaning. In her normal form she is red or yellow in colour. In her angry mood she is shown as black. Kaali means black.

Like a mother, she has lot of love, kindness, and compassion. She helps people voluntarily.

TWO STORIES

One day she asked her husband Lord Shiva ‘who helps little creatures like ants?’ Shiva said to her that HE helps everyone in the world. To test whether it is true or not, she hid some ants in a box at the feeding time. When Shiva came back after his work, she told that he forgot to feed some ants. But Shiva told he helped all the creatures on earth. She told him that the ants she hid in the little box did not get food. Shiva asked her to open the box and the ants were eating rice. Parvati was surprised.

Like every mother she loves all her people. One day she saw a poor man without food. She requested Shiva to give him money or food. Shiva told her that men also should THINK and TRY to get money or food. He threw a bundle of currency before the poor man. At the same time, he played Hide and Seek game. He closed his eyes for the sake of the play and walked closing his eyes. Thus he missed the currency bundle. Even if god is ready to help, we must also TRY our level best. God helps who helps themselves.

In Tamil Nadu Parvati has names like Meenaakshi, Kaamaakshi and Visaalaakshi in Kasi. Like Shiva she also has 1008 names. Hindus call it Lalithaa Sahasranaama. When you are a grown-up boy or girl you must read it. Most of the names have beautiful stories.

Hindus are the only people in the world who worship Goddess. In villages she has different names and they will tell you the stories behind each name. Most important name of her is Shakti. It means POWER. Every one of us need power and energy and strength to do anything. So Shiva placed her on his body. He gave half of his body to her. This is also pictured as Ardhanari (half woman). It has a moral lesson for children. Father and Mother are equally important. Together only they do everything.

Without mother no one can live happily. The love of mother to the child is most touching. She forgives all your mischiefs and mistakes. That is why Hindus say ‘Maathaa, Pithaa, Guru Deivam’. Maathaa= Mother comes first. All the three are Gods to Hindus. So give respect to your Mother, Father and Guru/teacher.

Your mother gives you and others food every day. In Sanskrit she is called Annapurani (poorani). It means she has lot of food for everyone. For Hindus the holiest place on earth is Kaasi. Another name is Vaaraanasi. There the goddess is named Annapoorani. The meaning is Food Goddess. In the same temple God Shiva is called Viswanatha or Visveswaran. The meaning is Lord of the World.

Let us all worship the ever- loving, most compassionate, and most powerful SHAKTI and get all the good things in the world.

Tamil poet Bharatiyaar has sung lot of songs on Shakti. In Sanskrit a great saint by name Aadhi Shankara has sung several songs (hymns)

Ask your mother or teacher to teach you at least one song.

ஹலோ, என்ன எல்லோருக்கும் குளூட்டன் ஒவ்வாமை வந்து விட்டதா? யாரைப் பார்த்தாலும் இதைப் பற்றியே பேசுகிறார்களே!

சிலியாக் வியாதி – Celiac disease – எனப்படும் குளூட்டன் ஒவ்வாமை என்பது ஒரு தன் எதிர்ப்பு நோய் (Immune disease)ஆகும். இதில், குளூட்டனை எடுத்துக் கொள்வதால் சிறுகுடல் பாதிப்பு ஏற்படுகிறது. சுருக்கமாகச் சொல்லப் போனால் குளூட்டன் உணவை ஒருவர் எடுத்துக் கொள்ளும் போது குடலை பாதிக்கும் தன் எதிர்ப்பு நோய் தூண்டி விடப்படுகிறது. இதனால் உடலில் முக்கியமான உணவுச் சத்துக்கள் உட்கிரகிப்பது தடுக்கப்படுகிறது.

எனக்கு குளூட்டன் ஒவ்வாமை உண்டா இல்லையா என்பதை எப்படி அறிவது?

இதற்கான பொதுவான அறிகுறி : மலச்சிக்கல் அல்லது டயரியா. அதிகமான வயிற்று உப்புசம். தலைவலி.

இதிலிருந்து எப்படி என் உடலை விடுபடச் செய்வது?

சில எளிய உணவுத் திட்டக் குறிப்புகள் கீழே தரப்படுகின்றன. இவற்றின் மூலம் விடுபடலாம

குளூட்டன் இல்லாத தானிய வகைகளைத் தேர்ந்தெடுங்கள்.

கோதுமை, ஓட்ஸ், பார்லி, ரை எனப்படும் புல்லரிசி இவை குளூட்டன் நிறைந்தவை. இவற்றைத் தவிர்க்கலாம்.

குளூட்டன் இல்லை என்ற சான்றிதழ் பாக்கிங் அட்டையில் இருக்கிறதா என்பதைப் பார்த்து வாங்குங்கள். உங்கள் உக்கிராண (சாமான்கள் வைத்திருக்கும்) அறையை குளூட்டன் இல்லாதபடி சுத்தப்படுத்துங்கள். குளூட்டன் உள்ள பானங்களைத் தவிருங்கள். எங்குமே வீட்டில் தயாரிக்கப்பட்டஉங்களுடைய சொந்த உணவைக் கொண்டு செல்லுங்கள். பருப்பு வ்கைகளை அதிகம் சாப்பிடுங்கள். கோதுமையின் பல்வேறு பெயர்களை அறிந்து கொள்ளுங்கள். குளூட்டன் கோதுமையைத் தவிருங்கள்!

குளூட்டன் இல்லா உணவுத் திட்டத்தை ஏற்றுக் கடைப்பிடித்தால் மூன்று மாதங்களில் அறவே இது நீங்கி விடும். பழைய ஆரோக்கிய நிலையை முற்றிலுமாக அடைய ஆறு மாதங்கள் ஆகும். அப்போது குடல் தனது சீரான நல்ல நிலையை அடையும்.

முதல் சில வாரங்கள் அதிகப் பசி இருப்பது போல உணர்வு ஏற்படும். எப்போதும் சாப்பிடத் தோன்றும். இது உங்கள் உடல் உணவை உட்கிரகிக்க முடியாததால் ஏற்படும் நிலை தான். பின்னர் படிப்படியாக இந்த உணர்வு சரியாகி விடும்.

இதற்கான மாத்திரை ஏதேனும் உண்டா?

இதற்கென CVS Health GlutenAid தயாரிக்கப்படுகிறது. உங்கள் டாக்டரை அணுகி ஆலோசித்து தக்க மாத்திரையை உட்கொள்ளலாம். கோதுமை உள்ளிட்ட சில தானிய வகைகளைச் சாப்பிட்டவுடன் குளூடன் இன்டாலரன்ஸ் (Gluten intolerance) ஏற்பட்டால் தக்க மருத்துவ ஆலோசனை பெறலாம். குளூடன் என்பது பார்லி, ரை, கோதுமை உள்ளிட்டவற்றில் காணப்படும் புரதச் சத்து ஆகும்.

இந்த குளூட்ட்ன் ஒவ்வாமை தீரக் கூடிய ஒன்று தானா?

சில வருடங்களுக்கு முன் வரை மருத்துவர்கள் இந்த சிலியாக் வியாதி குழந்தைகளுக்கு மட்டுமே வரும் ஒன்று, வளரும் போது சரியாகி விடும் என்று நினைத்தனர். ஆனால் இப்போதோ இது வயதானவர்களுக்குக் கூட வரும் ஒன்று என்பதை அறிந்து கொண்டுள்ளனர். குளூட்டன் இல்லா உணவே இதற்கு சரியான தீர்வு என்று கூறுகின்றனர்.

இதை அலட்சியப் படுத்தி விட்டு விட்டால் ஜீரண சம்பந்தமான கான்ஸர் வியாதி ஏற்படக்கூடும். லிம்போமா (Lymphoma) எனப்படும் மிக அரிதாக வரும் ஒரு சிறுகுடல் கான்ஸர் வியாதி வரக்கூடும்.

ஆகவே சிலியாக் வியாதியை அலட்சியமாக ஜீரண கோளாறு என்று விட்டு விடக் கூடாது. மருத்துவரின் ஆலோசனையை உடனடியாகப் பெறுதல் அவசியம்!

After reading Panini’s Ashtadhyayi, I thought the Rig Vedic translation of the word ‘Vrka is wrong at least in some places. Ancient Hindus used animal totems, or they had animals on their flags. We know that Arjuna had monkey flag and Duryodhana had snake on his flag. We also read Vanara/ monkey tribe, Jatayu, the Eagle rtribe, Jambhavan, the Bear tribe in Ramayana. All the rishis have animal or bird names. Just a few examples Kausika Visvamitra means Owl, Bharadvaja means Crow and Kashyapa means Tortoise. These totem symbols are in later Mahabharata as well. We read about Matsya/ Fish kingdom and Naga/ snake loka or kingdom.

To cut it short,  over hundred kings, seers and persons are named after plants, birds and animals. It is even in Vedic literature like Pippalada/ peepul tree, Mesha/ sheep for Indra. Aja means goat and many kings and Brahma were called Aja.

Vrka is found in Rigveda in several places. The Vedic Index of Keith and Macdonell gives two meanings. Strangely not connected to one another. A wolf or a plough. I read one or two hymns where the word Vrka occurred. The people who read Vedas forget completely the greatest grammarian Panini. Nobody explained why Panini gives the meanings of  words or usage In Chandas/ Vedas and Bhasha/ Sanskrit. Scholars like Goldstucker only pointed out that he was very close to the end of the Vedic period.

So let us look at some interesting details about Vrka in Panini and also Viruhu in Tamil

Panini’s Vrka is explained in detail by M S Agrawala in his doctoral research thesis and published later with the title ‘India As Known to Panini’.

Here is the gist from the book:

Vrikas is an Aayudha jiivi Sangha, a community that lived by the profession of arms. The whole tribe was called Vrikaah. The Vrikas thus appears to be a section of the war like Saka tribes.

Vrka, Sutra 5-3-115

An individual member of this Sangha was called Vaarkenya and the whole Sangha Vrika. This name standing alone in the sutra with a suffix peculiar from the rest is hither to untraced. It is stated to be Aayudha jiivin, but not necessarily associated with Vaahiika.

It should probably be identified with Varkana, the Old Persian form in the Behitsun inscription of Darius, mentioned along with Paarthava or the Paarthians.

There is a striking similarity between the Sanskrit and old Persian forms of the name,e.g.Vaarkenya equal to Vaarkana in the singular number, and Vrikaah equal to Varkaa in the plural as in the expression Sakaa Hauma Varkaa.

The country of the Vrikas s seems to have been the same as Hyreania lying to the north of Paarthia and on the Eastern corner of Caspian.

Modern Persian Gurgan from Vrika= gurg, in the valley of the river with that name in fertile district of Astarabad.

The Persians distinguished the Varkas and in fact all the northern warlike equestrian people as Sacas.

The name Vrika is known throughout the north west as shown by by its derivatives found in several languages near by Paninis homeland

The title Bakanapati or Barkanapati, the Chief of the Varkanas, is applied to a governor of Mathuraa who was associated with the foundation and repair of Devakula of Vima kadphises, whom Jayaswal identifed a sa Hycranian Saka.

The Sakas were a very ancient race referred to in old Persian inscriptions of Darius and settled both in the Sakasthana. Katyayana also has the expression Saka- Parthava in a Varttika showing that he knew about them in the fourth century BCE.

Vrika in Vedic Index

Vrka, wolf, is mentioned frequently in the Rigveda and also later. It was an enemy of sheep and of calves, being dangerous even to men. Its colour is stated to be reddish/aruna. The she wolf is Vrki ; several times mentioned in the Rigveda.

Second meaning:

Vrka in two passages of the Rigveda denotes ‘plough’.

Another word next to it is Vrka-dvaras, found in only one place in the Rigveda. It is interpreted differently by Ludwig, Roth, Oldenberg and Hillebrandt.

King of the Sandikas. Hillebrandt says it has Iranian connection.

Viruhu (Dhole)  in Tamil

In Tamil, Viruhu is forest Red dog.

It is like Dingoes of Australia. They circle the prey and attack together.

My Comments

Matsya tribe is found in the Puranas and Mahabharata. It means Fish tribe. In our own time we saw Tamil Tigers in Sri Lanka attacking Sinhalese. The newspapers simply called them ‘tigers’. Those who were familiar with the Sri Lankan politics know they were fighters against the government .

In the same way, Vrka were wolf people. They attacked others and made a life out of it. But in the Rig Vedic translations we find only wolves. It may be right in some places, but not in other places. So we have to reconsider the old translations.

And strangely Tamils also has this word. Many Rig Vedic words are used in day today conversations. Like Rig Vedic Aruna/ Red wolf we have Sen Naay, Red Dogs of the wild, the common name of which is Viruhu/dhole. There is even a proverb. He blinks like a viruhu; it also means the face of a thief. Because they steal goats and sheep.

So Vrka is not just Wolf. It may be Armed Vrka tribe or Red Dog, Dingoes of Tamil Nadu or plough.

Another interesting point is its Iranian connection. Since Tamils also have the word we are pretty sure the word travelled from India to Iran and not vice versa.

One more interesting  point is Gurg. We have to see whether there is any connection with the Gurkas of Nepal.

The word Gurg is used even in Karnataka where the River Kaveri originates.

We see wolf and sheep even in Aesop fables who copied all the Hindu stories. Vrka gives the word Wolf in English is known to linguists.
