சுபாஷித செல்வம்

துன்பம் இல்லாமல் வாழ வழி!

துன்பம் இல்லாமல் வாழ வழி!

அபரிசலயா சக்த்யா சுத்ருஷா ஸ்நிக்தமுக்தயா |

ருஜு பஷ்யாமி சர்வத்ர தேன ஜீவாப்யநாமய: ||

அசைக்க முடியாத வலிமையுடன், நேர் கொண்ட பார்வையுடன் எதிர் வருவதை நான் நேராகப் பார்க்கிறேன்; ஆகவே நான் பிரச்சினையின்றி வாழ்கிறேன்.

With unwavering strength, with steadfast and clear vision I shall look ahead and hence live without trouble.

சிங்கம் சிறுநரியை இரையாக ஏற்றுக் கொல்லாது!

சிம்ஹோ ஜம்புகமங்கமாகதபி த்யக்வா நிஹந்தி த்விபம் |

சர்வ: க்ருச்கதோபி வாஞ்சதி ஜன: சத்வானுரூபம் பலம் ||

ஒரு சிங்கமானது தன் அருகே வரும் சிறுநரியை இரையாகக் கொல்லாமல விட்டு விடுகிறது; அது யானையையே தன் இரையாகக் கொள்ள நினைக்கிறது. ஒவ்வொருவரும் எவ்வளவு கஷ்டமாக இருந்த போதிலும் தன் பலத்திற்குத் தக்கபடியே பலனை அடைய விரும்புகிறார்.

A lion igorea jackal coming into his lap but prefers an elephant as his prey. All however be in difficulty wants to achieve the result according to his stature. (Translation by Dr N.P.Unni)

ஸ்த்ரீ ரத்னம்

விஷாதப்யம்ருதம் க்ராஹ்யமமேத்யாதபி காஞ்சனம் |

நீசாதப்யுத்தமாம் வித்யாம் ஸ்த்ரீரத்னம் துஷ்குலாதபி ||

விஷத்திலிருந்தும் கூட ஒருவன் அம்ருதத்தை எடுக்கலாம்; மோசமான அமேத்யத்திலிருந்து கூட தங்கத்தை எடுக்கலாம்; மிக உயரிய வித்தையை கீழான நீசன் ஒருவனிடமிருந்து பெறலாம்; நற்பெயர் இல்லாத குலத்திலிருந்து கூட ஒரு ஸ்த்ரீ ரத்னத்தை (பெண்களில் ஜொலிக்கும் ரத்னம் போல இருப்பவளை) பெறலாம்.

One should take nectar even from poison, gold from filthy surroundings, knowledge of the highest kind even from  a low person and the jewel of an woman from an ill-reputed family. (Translation by Dr N.P.Unni)

சுபாஷித பெருமை!

பாஷாஷு முக்யா மதுரா திவ்யா கீர்வாணபாரதி |

தஸ்மாத்தி காவ்யம் மதுரம் தஸ்மாதபி சுபாஷிதம் ||

மொழிகளில் கடவுளர் பேசும் மொழியானது முக்கியமானது, (கீர்வாண பாரதி – சம்ஸ்கிருதம்) இனிமையானது, தெய்வீகமானது. அதிலும்  அதில் உள்ள காவியங்கள் இனிமையானவை; அதிலும் அதில் உள்ள சுபாஷிதம் இன்னும் அதிக இனிமையானவை.

Among languages the speech of the gods is important, sweet, and divine; even there the poetry is enjoyable and the subhasita – the finer sayings are even sweeter. (Translation by Dr N.P.Unni)

விவேகமில்லாதவனிடம் வேலை பார்ப்பதை விட காட்டுக்குப் போவது மேல்!

வரம் வனம் வரம் பைஷ்யம் வரம் பாரோபஜீவனம் |

பும்ஸாம் விவேகஹீனானாம் சேவயா ந தனார்ஜனம் ||

காட்டிற்குப் போவது, பிச்சை எடுப்பது, கடினமாக உழைப்பது முதலிய யாவும் ஒரு விவேகமில்லாத முதலாளியிடம் உழைப்பதை விட மேல்! அப்படிப்பட்டவர்களிடம் வேலை பார்த்து ஒருவன் பணம் சம்பாதிப்பது முடியாத காரியம்.

Going to the forest, begging for alms, living by hard labour etc, are better than serving a master who has no discretion and in no way  one could make money out of service with such people.
