சுமார் நூறு ஆண்டுகளுக்கு முன் தேவதாஸ் நாயுடு எழுதிய பாஞ்சாலங்குரிச்சி சரித்திரம் என்ற நூலிலிருந்து எடுக்கப்பட்ட சுவையான செய்திகளின் மூன்றாவது பகுதி இது—
கட்டபொம்மன் தூக்கிலிடப்பட்டபோதும் ஊமைத்துரை தலைமையில் வெள்ளையர்களை எதிர்த்துப் போரிட்டார்கள். இரவோடு இரவாக வெள்ளைக்காரர் வியக்கும் வண்ணம் கோட்டையும் கட்டினார்கள். அதைத் தகர்க்க ஆங்கிலேயர்கள் மிகப்பெரும் பீரங்கி வெடிகுண்டுகளை உபயோகித்தனர்.
ஊமைத்துரை மரணம்
அடுத்து நடந்த சண்டையில் ஊமைத்துரை காயம் அடைந்தார். பின்னர் அவரும் தூக்கிலிடப்பட்டார்.
செந்தில் ஆண்டவன் பக்தர்கள்
கட்டபொம்மன் நாயக்கர் வைஷ்ணவ மற்றும் ஜக்கம்மாள் வழிபாட்டில் வந்தவர்கள் என்றாலும் கட்டபொம்மன் முருகபக்தரும் ஆவார். தினமும் திருச்செந்தூரில் முருகனுக்கு தீபராதனை நடந்த செய்தி முரசுகள் மூலம் வந்தபின்னர்தான் சாப்பிடுவார். இதற்காக நீண்ட தொலைவுக்கு நகரா மண்டபங்கள் அமைக்கப்பட்டதாம்.
இறுதியில் தமிழ் மக்களின் மனம் புண்பட்டிருப்பதை அறிந்த வெள்ளையர் கட்ட பொம்மன் சந்ததியாருக்கு பல வசதிகளைச் செய்துகொடுத்து சமாதானப்படுத்தினர்.
நம் நாட்டின் சுதந்திரம் கட்டபொம்மன் போன்ற ஆயிரக்கக்கானோர் முயற்சியில் கிடைத்ததேயன்றி வெறும் அஹிம்சையால் மட்டும் கிடைக்கவில்லை.
வாழ்க கட்ட பொம்மன்; வளர்க அவன் புகழ்.
