Panchami means Fifth Day in Hindu Calendar. Hindus have divided each month into two halves. One fortnight begins immediately after new moon called Amavasyai; another fortnight begins immediately after full moon called Purnima or Pournami. Therefore they will have two Panchamis every month . 5.Bhadrapatha month is the month when Hindus worship departed souls and this period is known as Pitri Paksha or Mahaalaya or Apara paksha. On the fifth day a rite is done for one who has died in the past one year.
