Kush grass

Eragrotis cynosuroides

It is considered sacred . it is used as a mat to the pitris/departed souls. The eldest son of Rama was named Kush aster this grass.i  In the Chaturmass Mahatmya this grass is associated with planet Ketu. This grass is used in ceremonies, and in sharaddhas/ funeral rites .

Cucurbita maxima or pepo

This fruit represents buffalo demon, Mahisasura , sacrificed on the Dasara day. It is also considered a great merit/ punya to hollow this fruit, fill it up with gold and jewels and to present it to a brahmin priest as a gupta dhan or secret gift. Vrat Kaumudi book calls this creeper a goddess and recommends its worship.

In the Padma purana, saint Narada recommended to King Chandrasen  for worship .

King Chandrasen was the chief of the  Kaayastha  Prabhus, a twice born caste of  Bombay, Baroda and Central India.

Naaral , coconut tree

Cocos nucifera

It is considered an auspicious offering to the gods. It is worshipped as Lakshmi . The tree is called Kalpa Vriksha , wish fulfilling tree . All the parts of the tree are used. It is sold in all the temple towns for offering to god. It is placed on top of a metal pot with mango leaves and offered to god, ascetics and other leaders as Poorna (Puurna) Kumbha to honour them. Fishermen community in the West Coast of India offer to Vedic God Varuna every year.

Melia azadirachta

Its leaves are eaten on the new year day Gudi paadva, Ugadi days. Tamil Hindus use it in all village goddess Maariamman temples. It is considered an antidote to smallpox and infectious diseases. Its medicinal properties are well known. The oil of the neem is a well known remedy for leprosy and other skin diseases. During epidemic of small pox, festoons of the fresh leaves of this tree are hung on the doors of Hindus’ houses.

Piper betel

Betel is derived from Tamil word Vetrilai . Hindus chew it with betel-nuts and spices. It is used in all Hindu ceremonies in the south. It is offered to gods. Of late, betel leaves garlands are offered to lord Anjaneya   in all Hanuman temples . it is good for digestion. It is also offered paan / beedaa.

வெற்றி பெறச் சொல்ல வேண்டிய மூன்று ரதங்களின் பெயர்கள்!

மூன்று ரதங்களின் பெயர்கள்

அம்பாளைப் பற்றிய சகல விவரங்களையும் லலிதா சஹஸ்ர நாமத்தில் வரும் 1000 நாமங்கள் தருகின்றன.

அதில் மூன்று ரதங்களின் பெயரைச் சொன்னாலேயே நமக்கு வெற்றி கிடைக்கும் என்கின்ற ரகசிய செய்தி ஒன்றும் உண்டு.

யாருடைய ரதங்கள் அந்த  மூன்று?

அம்பாள், மந்த்ரிணீ மற்றும் வாராஹீ.

அம்பாளுடைய ரதம்- சக்ரராஜ ரதம்.

மந்த்ரிணீயுடைய ரதம் – கேய சக்ர ரதம்

வாராஹியினுடைய ரதம் – கிரி சக்ர ரதம்.

இந்த மூன்று ரதங்களின் பெயரைச் சொன்னாலேயே சொன்னவருக்கு வெற்றி தான்! கேட்டாலும் கேட்டவருக்கு வெற்றியே!

சக்ரராஜ ரதோயத்ர தத்ர கேய ரதோத்தம: |

யத்ர கேய ரதஸ் தத்ர  கிரி சக்ர ரதோத்தம: ||

ஏதத் ரத த்ரயம் தத்ர த்ரை லோக்யமிவ ஜங்கமம் |||

ஸம்பத்கரீ

66வது நாமமாக ஸஹஸ்ர நாமத்தில் வருவது இது:

ஸம்பத்கரீ சமாரூட சிந்துவ்ரஜ சேவிதா

இதன் பொருள்:

ஸம்பத்கரீ தேவியின் ஆக்ஞைக்கு உட்பட்ட யானைகளின் கூட்டத்தால் வணங்கப்படுபவள்.

ஸம்பத்கரீ தேவியானவள் அம்பாளின் சதுரங்க சேனை பலத்தில் யானை சைன்யத்திற்கு அதிகாரி.

அம்பாளின் ஆயுதங்களில் அங்குசத்திலிருந்து உருவானவள் இவ்ள்.

ஸம்பத்கரியின் வாகனமான யானைக்கு ரணகோலாஹலம் என்று பெயர்.

சுகசம்பத்யமான சித்த விருத்திக்கு ‘ஸம்பத்கரீ’ என்று பெயர். அதற்கு ஆதாரமான சப்தாதி விஷயங்களை யானைகளுக்கு சமமாக சொல்லப்பட்டிருக்கிறது.  அவைகளால் வணங்கப்படுபவள் என்பது பொருள்.

சுக சம்பத்கரீ என்றால் என்ன?

ஞானம் (அறிவு) ஞாத்ரு (அறிகின்றவன்), ஞேயம் (அறியப்படும் பொருள்)

 ஆகிய இந்த மூன்றுக்கும் த்ரிபுடீ என்று பெயர்.

இந்த மூன்றின் வித்தியாசங்களைத் தெரிந்து கொண்டு அவற்றை சம்பந்தப்படுத்தும் ஞான ரூபமான சித்தவிருத்திக்கு ‘‘சுக சம்பத்கரீ’ என்று பெயர்.

அஸ்வாரூடா

67வது நாமமாக வருவது இது:

அஸ்வாரூடாதிஷ்டிதாச்வ கோடி கோடிபிராவ்ருதா

அஸ்வாரூடா தேவியின் ஆக்ஞைக்கு உட்பட்ட கோடி கோடிக் கணக்கான குதிரைகளைக் கொண்டவள்.

அம்பாளுடைய சதுரங்க சேனா பலத்தில் அஸ்வாரூடா தேவி குதிரை சைனியங்களுக்கு அதிகாரியாக நியமிக்கப்பட்டவள்.

அம்பாளுடைய ஆயுதங்களில் பாசத்திலிருந்து ஆவிர்பவித்ததால் அஸ்வாரூடா தேவியின் குதிரைக்கு அபராஜிதம் என்று பெயர்.

மந்த்ரிணீ, தண்டிணீ

அம்பாளுடைய சக்திகளில் மிக முக்கியமாக அருகிலேயே இருப்பவர்கள் இருவர்.

1) மந்த்ரிணீ 2) தண்டிணீ

மந்த்ரிணீ, தண்டிணீயைத் தாண்டி அவர்கள் உத்தரவு இல்லாமல் யாரும் அம்பாளை அணுக முடியாது.

இவர்களே மிக முக்கியமானவர்கள்.

ஸம்பத்கரீ, அஸ்வாரூடா போன்றவர்கள் இவர்களுக்கு உட்பட்டுத்தான் இருப்பர்.

இந்த இருவரும் எப்போதும் அம்பாளின் சந்நிதியில் இருப்பதாகவும் அம்பாளின் சேவையில் ஈடுபட்டிருப்பதாகவும் சொல்லப்படுகிறது.

மந்த்ரிணீ தேவதை அம்பாளுக்கு பிரதான மந்திரி ஸ்தானம் வகிப்பவர். சங்கீதத்திற்கு அதிஷ்டான தேவதை ராஜ ச்யாமலை மற்றும் ஸங்கீத ச்யாமலை என்று பெயர். மந்த்ரிணீயிடம் அம்பாள் தனது ராஜ்ய பொறுப்பு அனைத்தையும் தந்து விட்டதாக 786வது நாமத்தின் மூலமாக நாம்

அறிய முடிகிறது. (மந்த்ர்ணீ ந்யஸ்த ராஜ்ய தூ:- 786)

சக்ரராஜ ரதம்

சக்ரராஜ ரதாரூட ஸ்ர்வாயுத பரிஷ்க்ருதா (68வது நாமம்)

இதன் பொருள்:

சக்ரராஜ ரதத்தில் ஆரூடமாயிருக்கும்படியான சம்ஸ்த ஆயுதங்களினால் அலங்கரிக்கப்பட்டவள்.

யுத்த காலத்தில் தேவிக்கு சமீபத்தில் சகல விதமான ஆயுதங்களும் சக்ர ராஜ ரதத்தில் தயாராக வைக்கப்பட்டிருக்கும்.

அம்பாளின் ரதத்தின் கொடிக்கு ‘ஆனந்த த்வஜம்’ என்று பெயர்.

இந்த ரதத்திற்கு 9 தட்டு உண்டு. 10 யோஜனை உயரம், 4 யோஜனை அகலம் கொண்ட ரதம் இது.

சக்ர ராஜ ரதம் என்பதற்கு இன்னொரு பொருளும் உண்டு. அதாவது இதுவே ஶ்ரீ சக்கரம் ஆகும்.

ஶ்ரீ சக்கரத்திலும் 9 பீரிவுகள் உண்டு.

1) த்ரைலோக்ய மோஹனம்

2) சர்வாசா பரிபூரகம்

3) சர்வசம்சேக்ஷாபணம்

4) சர்வ சௌபாக்யதாயகம்

5) சர்வார்த்தசாதகம்

6) சர்வரக்ஷாகரம்

7) சர்வரோகஹரம்

8) சர்வஸித்திப்ரதம்

9) சர்வானந்தமயம்

ஶ்ரீ சக்கரத்தில் உள்ள பிந்துவே அம்பாளின் இருப்பிடம்.

இதில் இருக்கும் ஆயுதங்கள் ஆத்ம ஞானம் அடைவதற்கான சாதனங்கள் என்று பொருள் கொள்ள வேண்டும்.

ஆதமஞானம் அடைவது நிச்சயம். சக்தரஸித்தி ஏற்படுகிறது. அதுவே யோகம் என்று கூறப்படுகிறது.

சக்ர ராஜம் என்பது ஆறு அதாவது ஷட் சக்கரங்களை, ரத – ஆதாரமாகக் கொண்டது சக்ர ராஜ ரதம்.

இதை சக்ரேசத்வம் என்றும் கூறுவர்.

சகல ஆயுதங்களையும் கொண்டு அந்த ஷட் சக்கரங்களை அடக்க முடியும். இதை சுத்த வித்யா என்று கூறுவர்.

கேய சக்ர ரதம்

அடுத்து 69வது நாமம் இது:

கேய சக்ர ரதாரூட மந்த்ரிணீ பரிஸேவிதா

இதன் பொருள்:

கேய சக்ரம் என்ற ரதத்தில் ஆரோஹணம் செய்திருக்கும் மந்த்ரிணீ தேவியால் வலம் வந்து சேவிக்கப்பட்டவள்.

இந்த ரதத்திற்கு 7 தட்டுகள் உண்டு.

கேய – பிரசித்தமான

சக்ர – சக்கரத்தை உடைய

ரதம் – ரதமான சூர்ய மண்டலம்

இதில் ஆரூடர்களாக இருக்கும்படியான மந்த்ரிணீ ஶ்ரீ வித்யா உபாசகர்களால் வணங்கப்படுபவள்.

இன்னொரு பொருள்

கேய – முக்கியமான

சக்ர ரதா – சக்ராகாரமான ரதத்தில் வீற்றிருக்கும் அம்பாளை

ஆரூட – புத்தியில் அநுசந்தானம் செய்யும்

மந்த்ரிணீ – மந்திர சித்தி உடையவர்களால் வணங்கப்படுபவள்.

கிரி சக்ர ரதம்

அடுத்த 70வது நாமம் கிரி சக்ர ரதாரூட தண்டநாத புரஸ்க்ருதா

இதன் பொருள்:

கிரி சக்ரம் என்கின்ற ரதத்தில் ஆரோஹணம் செய்திருக்கும் தண்டநாதையை முன்னிட்டிருப்பவள்.

கிரி என்றால் வராஹம் என்று பொருள். தண்டநாதையின் ரதம் வராஹ வடிவத்தில் இருப்பதால் அதற்கு கிரி சக்ர ரதம் என்ற பெயர் ஏற்பட்டிருக்கிறது.

வாராஹிக்கு தண்டநாதை என்று பெயர்.

கிரி – கிரணங்கள் அதாவது சிருஷ்டி, ஸ்திதி, லயம் ஆகியவற்றின்

சக்ரம் – சமூகமாகிய ரதத்தில்

ஆரூட – ஏறி இருந்தவளாக இருப்பினும்

தண்டநாத – யமனால்

அபரஸ்க்ருதா – ஸ்வாதீனம் செய்யப்படாதவள்.

அதாவது ஒரு யோகியானவன் சிருஷ்டி, ஸ்திதி, லயம் ஆகியவற்றில் அகப்பட்டிருந்தாலும் கூட அவன் யம வாதனைக்கு உட்பட்டவன் அல்ல என்பது பொருள்.

அம்பாளின் ரதம் மற்றும் முக்கிய இரு தேவதைகளின் ரதம் ஆகியவற்றின் பெயரை தினமும் கூறுவோம்; வெற்றியைப் பெறுவோம்.

குறிப்பு: மேற்கண்ட வியாக்யானங்கள் திரு ஜி.வி.கணேச ஐயர் அவர்களால் ஆர்யதர்மம் பத்திரிகையில் எழுதப்பட்டவை.

லலிதா சஹஸ்ரநாமத்தை பாஸ்கரராயரின் பாஷ்யத்திற்கு இணங்க அவர் அற்புதமாக விரிவுரை ஒன்றை ஆயிரம் நாமங்களுக்கும் எழுதினார்.

இது 1938ஆம் ஆண்டு நவம்பர் மாதம் 11ஆம் தேதி புத்தகமாக வெளி வந்தது.

If balsam plant is not available for worship this is used

For Gauri puja. The twigs of these plants are used as tooth brushes on the Rishi Panchami day . the leaves are used in Ganesh worship. Some scriptures associate it with Buddha.

Mango tree, Magnifera indica , is a sacred tree. Its inflorescence is offered to Moon on the second day of month Maagh . it is also sacred to Manmatha , the hindu cupid. Festoons of mango leaves are  round the halls  and bowers in which wedding and other auspicious ceremonies are held. Mangoes are distributed among Brahmins on Vata Savitri day. Hindus believe the tree represents Prajaapati.  Its twigs are used as tooth brushes. Its leaves are used as spoons for pouring libations. On Maha Shivratri day, Shiva is worshipped with mango blossom.

This tree is held scared, because  Sita devi spent her day in the Ashoka tree grove. Its buds are eaten by women in Bengal on the  Ashok  shasthi day. It is supposed to bloom vigorously  if kicked by a young lady.

Its trifoliate leaf is sacred  to Shiva. No worship of shiva is  omplete without it.   These Vilva are  leaves are sacred and the three leaves represent hindu trinity – brahama ,Vishnu and shiva.

தீனபந்து சி எப் ஆண்ட்ரூஸ் C F  Andrews  , எப்படியாவது காந்திஜி Gandhiji வாய் மூலம் மத மாற்றம் (Conversion)  சரியே என்று சொல்ல வைக்கவேண்டும் என்று  தந்திரம் செய்தார். ஆனால் மஹாத்மா காந்தியோ கிறிஸ்தவ மத மாற்றம்  உலக சமாதானத்துக்கு (Danger to World Peace) பேராபத்து என்று சொல்லி (அ) தீன  பந்துவின் வாயை மூடினார். இதோ காந்தியின்  ஹரிஜன் பத்திரிகை 28-3-1936 பத்திரிகையில் வெளியான உரையாடல்:-

C F Andrews: ஒரு மனிதன் நன்றாகச் சிந்தித்து, பிரார்த்தனை எல்லாம் செய்துவிட்டு, நான் கிறிஸ்தவனாக மதம் மாறினால்தான் எனக்கு விமோசனம் கிடைக்கும் என்று உங்களிடம் சொன்னால் , காந்திஜி, நீங்கள் என்ன செய்வீர்கள் ?

Gandhiji : நான் சொல்வேன் – ஒரு கிறிஸ்தவனிடம் மாற்று மதத்தைச் சேர்ந்த ஒருவன், உதாரணமாக இந்து ஒருவன் வந்து,  இப்படிச் சொன்னால், நீ நல்ல இந்துவாக மாறு. மற்ற மதத்தை நாடாதே – என்பேன்.

C F Andrews: இது பற்றி உங்களுடன் நீண்ட விவாதம் செய்ய முடியாது; என்னுடைய மனப்பாங்கு உங்களுக்குத் தெரியும். கிறிஸ்து மட்டுமே பரலோக சாம்ராஜ்யத்தைக் காட்ட முடியும் என்ற வாதத்தை நான் என்றோ நிராகரித்துவிட்டேன் உதாரணத்துக்காக கேட்கிறேன். ஆக்ஸ்போர்ட் குரூப் இயக்கத்தினர் , உங்கள் மகனின் வாழ்க்கையை மாற்றி, உங்கள் மகனையே கிறிஸ்தவனாக்கினால்  நீங்கள் என்ன சொல்வீர்கள் ?

(காந்திஜியின் மகன் பக்கா அயோக்கியன் ; குடிகாரன்; அவனை முஸ்லிம்கள் மதம் மாற்றினர் ; காந்திஜி மனைவி புலம்பல் கடி தங்கள் எழுதியும் அவன் திருந்தாதால் கஸ்தூரிபாய் காந்தி சிறையில் இருக்கும்போதே இறந்து போனார் ; இது பற்றி அந்தக் காலத்தில் தினமும் பத்திரிக்கையில் திடுக்கிடும் செய்திகள் வெளிவரும். அதை அறிந்தவர்களுக்கு ஆண்ட்ரூஸின் கேள்வி புரியும்; நொந்து போன காந்திஜியை வெந்த புண்ணில் வேல் பாய்ச்சுவது போல குத்துகிறார் ஆண்ட்ரூஸ்)

மதம் மாறிய பிராமணன் கதை

Gandhiji : நான் சொல்வேன் ;ஆக்ஸ்போர்ட் கிறிஸ்தவ மதமாற்ற இயக்கத்தினர் எத்தனை பேரின் வாழ்வை வேண்டுமானாலும் சீரமைக்கட்டும். ஆனால் அவர்களின் மதத்தை மாற்றத் தேவை இல்லை ; அவரவர் மதத்தில் உள்ள நல்ல போதனைகளைச் சுட்டிக்காட்டி அதை பின்பற்றுங்கள் என்று அவர்கள் சொல்லட்டுமே.

என்னிடம் ஒரு பிராமணப் பையன் வந்தான் . நீங்கள் (C F Andrews)  எழுதிய புஸ்தகத்தைப் படித்ததால் அவன் கிறிஸ்தவனாக மாறியதாக என்னிடம் சொன்னான் . அப்படியானால் உங்கள் அப்பா, அம்மா தாத்தா பாட்டி மதம் எல்லாம் தப்பா? என்று நான் கேட்டேன். இல்லை இல்லை என்றான் அந்தப் பிராமண இளைஞன் . நான் சொன்னேன்; பைபிளையும் கிறிஸ்து வையும் ஏற்பதில் உனக்கு சிரமம் இருந்ததா? ஆண்ட்ரூஸ் அவருடைய புஸ்தகத்தில் எங்கும்  பைபிளை ஏற்றுக்கொண்டு கிறிஸ்தவனாக மதம் மாறுங்கள் என்று இந்தியர்களுக்குச் சொல்லவில்லையே . நீ அவருடைய புஸ்தகத்தை தவறாகப் புரிந்து கொண்டு இருக்கிறாய் .என்றேன் 

ஒருவேளை நீங்களும் காலம் சென்ற முகமது அலி போல நினைக்கிறீர்களா? அவர் ஒரு கெட்ட முஸ்லிம்கூட  நல்ல இந்துவை விட மேலானவன் என்றார்’

C F Andrews: நான் முகமது அலி சொன்னதை ஏற்கவே மாட்டேன் ஆயினும் ஒருவன் உண்மையாகவே மதம் மாற விரும்பினால் அதற்குத் தடை போடக்கூடாது என்பதே என் கருத்து

Gandhiji :ஆனால் அவனுக்கு சிந்திப்பதற்கு ஒரு வாய்ப்பே நீங்கள் கொடுக்கவில்லை என்பது உங்களுக்குத் புரியவில்லையே!! நீங்கள் அவனை ‘ஏண்டா மதம் மாறுகிறாய்?’ என்று குறுக்கு விசாரணை கூடச் செய்யவில்லையே . உதாரணத்துக்குச் சொல்கிறேன். ஒருவன் பாகவத புராணத்தைப் படித்துவிட்டு அதனால் நான் இந்துவாக மாற விரும்புகிறேன் என்று என்னிடம் வந்து சொன்னால் ; வேண்டாமப்பா, பாகவத புராணம் சொல்லும் நல்ல விஷயம் எல்லாம் பைபிளிலும் உள்ளது ; அதைக் காண்பதற்கு நீ முயற்சியே செய்யவில்லை . அதை படித்து நல்ல கிறிஸ்தவனாக இரு என்றுதான் சொல்வேன்.

C F Andrews: எனக்குத் தெரியாது ; ஒருவன் நான் நல்ல கிறிஸ்தவனாக மாற விரும்புகிறேன் என்று என்னிடம் சொன்னால் , நீ மாறாப்பா என்றுதான்  நான் சொல்வேன்.; ஆயினும் உங்களுக்குத் தெரியும்; ஒருவன் என்னிடம் வந்து கிறிஸ்தவனாக மாற விரும்புகிறேன் என்று சொன்னபோது என் பெயரைச் சொல்லி மதம் மாறாதே என்று நான் சொன்னேன்.ஆயினும் மனிதனுக்கு உறுதியான ஒரு மதம் வேண்டும் அல்லவா?

(ஆண்ட்ரூஸ் சுற்றி வளைத்து கிறிஸ்துவே ஒரே வழி என்று சொல்லவைக்க தொடர்ந்து முயற்சி செய்யவே, காந்திஜி போட்டார் ஒரு போடு; அந்த ஆள் வாய் மூடி மவுனமானார் )

Gandhiji :ஒரு மனிதனுக்கு பைபிள் மீது நம்பிக்கை இருந்தால் அவன் சொல்லட்டுமே. அதற்காக அவன் தாய் மதத்தை விட வேண்டுமா?  இப்படி மதம் மாறுவது உலகில் அமைதியே  இல்லாமல் செய்துவிடும் . சமயம் என்பது அவரவர் சொந்த நம்பிக்கை; நாம் நமது கொள்கைப்படி வாழ்ந்ந்து காட்டி நல்லனவற்றைப் பிறருடன் பகிர்ந்துகொள்ள வேண்டும் இது கடவுளை அடைய மனிதன் செய்யும் முயற்சிக்கு வலுவூட்டும் .

இப்படிச் சொல்லிவிட்டு காந்திஜி தொடர்ந்து பேசினார் :- நீங்கள் ஒருவரை ஒருவர் சகித்துக்கொள்ள வேண்டும் என்பதையோ அல்லது எல்லா மதங்களும் சமமே என்பதை ஒப்புக்கொள்ளுகிறீர்களோ இல்லையோ . என்னுடைய கருத்து என்னவென்றால் உலகிலுள்ள மதங்கள் அனைத்தும் அடிப்படையில் ஒன்றே ; நம்முடைய மதத்தில் நமக்கு என்ன மரியாதை உண்டோ, அது மற்ற  மதத்தின்மீதும் இருக்கவேண்டும். இன்னும் விளக்கமாகச் சொல்லுவேன் ;ஒருவரை ஒருவர் சகித்துக்கொள்ளுதல் அல்ல ; சகிப்புத்தன்மை அல்ல; ஒருவரை ஒருவர் மதிக்கவேண்டும் என்பதே என் கொள்கை. Harijan 28-3-1936

என் கருத்து 

காந்திஜி ஆஸ்ரமத்தில் வசித்துக்கொண்டே உண்ட வீட்டுக்கு இரண்டகம் நினைத்த ஆண்ட்ரூஸுக்கு சரியான பதிலடி கொடுத்தார் காந்திஜி; சிறு வயது முதலே பகவத் கீதையையும் விஷ்ணு சஹஸ்ரநாமத்தையும் ராம நாமத்தையும் ஜபித்து வந்ததால் எவ்வளவோ கிறிஸ்தவர்கள் அவரை மதம் மாற்ற முயற்சித்தும் அவர் மதம் மாறவில்லை. ஆனால் அப்படி மதம் மாறியிருந்தால் அவரை இந்திய மக்கள் குப்பைத்தொட்டியில் வீசி எறிவார்கள் என்பதும் அவருக்குத் தெரியும்.

அறிஞர்களின் மூட நம்பிக்கைகள்! – 2

தனது ஆய்வுகளின் போது தனது இறுதிக்காலத்தில் தான் கடைத்தெற முடியுமா என்று கவலைப்படுவது ரூஸோவின் பழக்கம்.

தனது ‘Confessions’ -இல் ரூஸோ கூறுவது இது:

“இப்போது இந்தக் கணத்தில் நான் இறந்து விட்டால், நான் கடைத்தேறுவேனா?” (If I died at this moment, should I be saved?) என்றே நான் என்னைக் கேட்டுக் கொள்வேன்”

அவர் எழுதியது :

“ஒரு நாள் நான் இதைப் பற்றி யோசித்துக் கொண்டிருந்த போது ஒரு மரத்தின் அடிபாகத்தில் இயந்திரகதியில் கற்களை தூக்கிப் போட்டுக் கொண்டிருந்தேன். அப்படித் தூக்கிப் போட்டுக் கொண்டிருக்கும் போதே எனக்குள் நானே, “இதோ எனக்கு எதிரில் உள்ள மரத்தை நோக்கி ஒரு கல்லை எறியப் போகிறேன்” என்று சொல்லிக் கொண்டேன். அது குறி தவறாமல் பட்டால் எனக்கு நற்கதி கிடைக்கும். தவறி விட்டாலோ நிச்சயம் எனக்குக் கிடைக்காது.”

நடுங்கிய கைகளுடன் நான் கல்லைத் தூக்கிப் போட அது அருமையாக மரத்தின் அடிப்பாகத்தின் நடுவைச் சென்று தாக்கியது. அன்றிலிருந்து நான் எனது நற்கதி பற்றி சந்தேகப்படுவதே இல்லை.’

மேரி ஆண்டாய்னெட் (Mary Antoinette) தனது வாழ்க்கையோடு தொடர்பு கொண்டுள்ள சின்னச் சின்ன சம்பவங்கள் பற்றிக் கூட கவலைப்படுவார்.

வெர்ஸலிஸ் அரண்மனையில் ஒரு கண்ணாடி இருந்தது. அதில் அவர் தனது தலையில்லாத பிம்பத்தைக் கண்டார்.

அந்தக் கண்ணாடியின் விசித்திர அமைப்பினால் அவரது உடல் மட்டும் அதில் தெரிந்தது. தலை தெரியவில்லை. ஏற்கனவே கலங்கிக் கொண்டிருந்த மேரி தனது தலைவிதி ஒரு  முடிவுக்கு வந்து விட்டது என்று கலங்கிப் போனார்.

ரூபின்ஸ்டெயின் (Rubinstein) திங்களன்றும் வெள்ளியன்றும் பயணத்திற்குப் புறப்படமாட்டார். மிகவும் பயப்படுவார்.

ஹிட்லருக்கு 7ஆம் நம்பர் மிகவும் பிடிக்கும். அவர் தனது முக்கியமான பெரிய தாக்குதல்களை மாதத்தின் ஏழாம் நாளில் தான் துவங்குவார்.

தனது நாஜி சின்னமான ஸ்வஸ்திகா சின்னத்தை புத்த மத சின்னம் போல அவர் சித்தரித்தார்.

கார்னேலியஸ் வாண்டர்பில்ட் (Cornelius Vanderbilt) தனது படுக்கை கட்டிலின் கால்களை உப்பு நிறைந்த தட்டில் நிற்க வைத்தார். அது தீய ஆவிகளிடமிருந்து தன்னைக் காக்கும் என்பது அவரது நம்பிக்கை.

சாமர்செட் மாம் (Somerset Magham) தனது வீட்டில் கணகணப்பை உருவாக்கும் இடத்தில் கண்திருஷ்டிக்கான ஒரு அடையாளத்தைச் சித்தரித்து வைத்திருந்தார். அது அவரது எல்லா புத்தகங்களிலும் ஸ்டேஷனரி பொருள்களின் மீதும் கூடப் பொறிக்கப்பட்டிருக்கும்.

நெப்போலியனுக்குப் (Nepoleion Bonaparte) பூனைகள் என்றாலே (ailurophobia)

பயம்.

வின்ஸ்டன் சர்ச்சில் நல்ல அதிர்ஷ்டம் பெறுவதற்காக கறுப்புப் பூனைகளை வளர்த்தார்.

அல் ஜாlல்ஸன் (Al Jolson) புதிய நிகழ்ச்சி ஒன்றைத் தொடங்கினால் அதில் பழைய ஆடைகளையே அணிவது வழக்கம்.

 ஸ்காட்லாந்தைச் சேர்ந்த மேரி க்வீன் (Mary Queen of Scots) தனது இறுதி காலத்தை சீட்டுக் கட்டு ஜோதிடம் மூலமாகவே அறிந்தார். அவர் கை நிறைய ஸ்பேட் கார்ட் இருந்தது.

லார்ட் நெல்ஸன் தனது கப்பலில் குதிரை லாடத்தைத் தொங்க விட்டிருந்தார்.

ஆங்கில எழுத்தாளரான சாமுவெல் ஜான்ஸன் எப்போதும் ஒரு வீட்டிற்குள் தனது இடது காலை வைத்து நுழையவே மாட்டார். ஏனெனில் அது வீட்டிலிருப்போருக்கு துரதிர்ஷ்டத்தைத் தரும் என்று அவர் கூறுவார்.

அயர்லாந்தின் தேசீயத் தலைவரான சார்லஸ் ஸ்டீவர்ட் பார்னெல் (Charles Steward Parnell, Irish Nationalist Leader) 13 ஷர்த்துகள் அடங்கிய சட்டத்தில் ஒரு போதும் கையெழுத்திட மாட்டார். 14ஆம் ஷரத்தைச் சேர்த்தால் தான் அவர் கையெழுத்திடுவார்.

அமெரிக்க ஜனாதிபதியாக இருந்த ஹாரி எஸ். ட்ரூமென் (S Truman) ஒய்ட்ஹவுஸில் தனது அலுவலக வாச்யில் ஒரு குதிரை லாடத்தைத் (horse shoe) தொங்க விட்டிருந்தார்.

இறுதியாக, ஷேக்ஸ்பியர் கூறுவதைப் பார்ப்போம் :

“For many men that stumble at the threshold

Are well foretold that danger lurks therein.”

ஆக  உலகெங்கும் பலவித நம்பிக்கைகள் உண்டு.

நம்மை மட்டும் குறி வைத்து மேலை நாட்டினர் பகுத்தறிவுவாதம் பேசி மூடநம்பிக்கைக்காரர்கள் என்று சொல்வது பெரும் தவறு அல்லவா?!

C F Andrews: What would you say to a man who after considerable thought and prayer said that he could not have his peace and salvation except by  becoming a Christian?

Gandhiji :I would say if a non- Christian (say a Hindu came to a Christian and made that statement, he should become a good Hindu rather than find goodness in change of faith.

C F Andrews: I cannot in this go to the whole length with you, though you know my own position. I dis carded the position that there is no salvation except through Christ long ago. But supposing the Oxford Group Movement people changed the life of your son, and he felt like being converted, what would you say?

Gandhiji : I would say that the Oxford Group may change the lives of as many as they like, but not their religion. They can draw their attention to the best in their respective religions and change their lives by asking them to live according to them. There came to me a man, son of  Brahmana parents, who said his reading of your books had led him to embrace Christianity . I asked him if he thought that the religion of his forefathers were wrong. He said No’. then I said , is there any difficulty in accepting the bible as one of the great religious books of the world and Christ as one of the great teachers? I said to him that you had never through your books asked Indians to take up the bible and embrace Christianity, and then he misread your book – unless of course your position is like that of the late M.Mahomed Ali’s viz. that ‘a believing Mussulman, however bad his life, is better than a Hindu’.

C F Andrews: I do not accept M. Mahomed Ali’s position at all. But I do say if a person really needs a change of faith I should not stand in his way.

Gandhiji :But don’t you see that you do no even give him a chance? You do not even cross examine him. Supposing a Christian came to me and said he was captivated by reading of the Bhagavata and so wanted to declare himself a Hindu, I should say to him: No what the Bhagavata offers the bible also offers. You have not made any attempt to find it out. Make the attempt and be a good Christian.

C F Andrews: I don’t know. If someone earnestly says that he will become a good Christian, I should say, you may become one., though you know that I have in my own life strongly dissuaded ardent enthusiast who came to me I said to them, certainly not on my account will you do anything of the kind. But human nature does require a concrete faith.

Gandhiji :If a person wants to believe in the bible let him say so, but why should he discard his own religion? This proselytization will mean no peace in the world. Religion is a very personal matter. We should by living the life according to our lights share the best with one another, thus adding to the sum total of human effort to reach God.

Consider, continued Gandhiji ,  whether you are going to accept the position of mutual toleration or of equality of religions. My position is that all the great religions are fundamentally equal. We must have innate respect for other religions as we have for our own. Mind you, not mutual toleration, but equal respect.
