Age old Indian wisdom about everything under the sun was summarised in Sanskrit couplets and was followed by our forefathers. Even today those couplets remain relevant and useful. Here below are two couplets which say what increases your life span and what factors cause a decreased life span.
Vrddaarko homa dhuumasca baalastrii nirmalodakam
Ratrau kshiiraannabuktisca aayurvrddhir dine dine
Evening sun light, smoke form the fire sacrifice (Havan or Homa smoke), marriage with a younger girl, crystal clear pure water, milk rice in the night increase your life span every day.
What is not good?
Baalaarkah pretadhuumasca vrddastrii palvalodakam
Ratrau dadhyaannabuktisca aayu: kshiinam dine dine
Morning sun light, smoke for the funeral fire, marriage with a girl older than you, muddy impure water, yogurt (curd) rice reduce your life span every day.
Another couplet in the book written by Susruta divides Ayurveda into eight minor divisions. This shows that they have very clear idea about the needs of the patients:-

1.Salyam:-
Sugery
2.Saalakyam:-
Diagnosis
3.Kaaya chikitsaa:-
Body care and Treatment
4.Bhutavidyaa:-
Mental Health, treating mentally sick patients
5.Kaumaarabrutyam:-
Treatment of Child’s diseases (paediatrics)
6.Agatatantram:-
Anti dote to poisons
Treating patients affected by poisons
7.Rasaayana tantram:-
Chemical or medical treatment for longevity
8.Vaajikarana:-
Sexual health, curing impotency and increasing sexual vigour.
