/ September 27, 2020In Sangam age and post Sangam age we used koYIl, later we see koVIl. Historical meaning changes and spelling changes and pronunciation changes and accent changes are found in all the languages of the world. In Tamil Nadu almost all the temples use the spelling I used – koVil. above all the proverb book published by Saiva Siddaanta Publishing house used KOVIL. That is the book I have been using for all my Proverb posts.
During Sangam age KOYIL meant the palace of the king.
At Silaappadikaram time koYIl was used for Gods’ temples.
in short both are correct now. Change is inevitable. We move with the times. My computer goes automatically to American English spellings
Then I change it to UK spellings.
Example — Color= coloUr
