சுபாஷிதச் செல்வம்

சமுதாயத்தைத் தாங்கி ஒன்றிணைப்பதுவே தர்மம்!

தர்மம் என்றால் என்ன என்பதை விளக்கும் சுபாஷிதம் உள்ளிட்ட சில சுபாஷிதங்கள் இதோ:

தாரணாத் தர்மமித்யாஹு: தர்மோ தாரயதே ப்ரஜா: |

யஸ்யாத் தாரணசம்யுக்தம் ச தர்ம அதி நிச்சய: ||

தர்மம் என்ற வார்த்தை தர்மா என்ற வார்த்தையிலிருந்து வந்த ஒன்றாகும். சமுதாயத்தை ஓரிழையில் ஒருங்கிணைப்பது தர்மமே. ஆகவே எது அனைத்து மக்களையும் ஒருங்கிணைக்கிறதோ அது நிச்சயம் தர்மமே தான்!

The word “Dharma” is derived from “Dharma”. It is “dharma” which holds society together. Hence if something is able to hold people together, no doubt it is dharma. (Henceforth dharma)

ஆஹார நித்ரா பய மைதுனம் ச சாமான்யமேதத் பசுபிர்நராணாம் |

தர்மோ ஹி தேஷாம் அதிகோவிஷேஷோ தர்மேண ஹீனா: பசுபி: சமானா: ||

உண்பது, உறங்குவது, பயம், பாலியல் உணர்வு ஆகியவை மனிதனுக்கும் மிருகங்களுக்கும் பொதுவானவை. மனிதரையும் மிருகங்களையும் வேறுபடுத்திக் காட்டுவது தர்மமே. எனவே, தர்மம் இல்லையென்றால்  மனிதன் மிருகத்திற்குச் சமானமே!

Eating, sleep, fear, and sexual instinct are common to both human beings and animals. It is dharma which separates the two because, without dharma the human being is same as the animal.

ஸத்யஸ்ய வசனம் ச்ரேய: சத்யாதபி ஹிதம்வதேத் |

யத்பூதஹிதமத்யந்தம்  ஏதத் மதம் மம ||

ஸத்யத்தையே பேசுவது சிறந்தது; அதிலும்  மற்றவர்க்கு ஹிதம் தருவதையே சொல்வது இன்னும் சிறந்தது. நாரதர் கூறுகிறார்: ஸத்யமே அனைவருக்கும்  பயன் அளிக்கும் என்பது என் கொள்கை!

Telling truth is recommended, but more than that, tell those things which are in interest of all. According to Narada, truth is that which is beneficial to (all) beings.

ந ராஜ்யம் ந ராஜாசீத் ந தண்ட்யோ ந ச தாண்டீக: |

தர்மேணைவ ப்ரஜாஸ்சர்வா ரக்ஷந்தி ஸ்ம பரஸ்பரம் ||

எந்த ராஜ்யமும் எந்த அரசனும் எந்த குற்றவாளியும் எந்த ஒரு நீதிபதியும் ஒரு குற்றவாளிக்குத் தண்டனை வழங்குதல் முடியாது. மக்கள் ஒருவரை ஒருவர் தர்மத்தினாலேயே காத்துக் கொள்கின்றனர்.

சமூக நலனில் அக்கறை கொண்டுள்ள தொண்டு நிறுவனங்களான முதியோர் இல்லம், குழந்தைகள் காப்பகம் முதலியவை அதிகரிப்பது சமுதாயம் வளர்கிறது என்பதற்கான ஒரு  அறிகுறியே. ஆனால் உண்மை என்னவெனில் இப்படிப்பட்ட தொண்டு நிறுவனங்கள் அதிகரிப்பதன் காரணம் உறவினரோ அல்லது அண்டை அயலாரோ தங்கள் தர்மத்தைச் செய்யும் கடமையிலிருந்து நழுவி விட்டனர் என்பது தான்!

There is no kingdom nor any king; no criminal nor any judge to administer penalty to the criminal. People protect each other by virtue of dharma, If the number of social service organizations such as orphanages, child care centres etc. keeps growing then is it a healthy sign of progress of society. Yet, the fact remains that the need to such institutions arises in the first place because the relatives or neighbours may have failed to do their dharma!

வித்வத்வம் ச ந்ருப்த்வம் ச நைவ துல்யம் கதாசன |

ஸ்வதேஷோ பூஜயதே ராஜா வித்வான் சர்வத பூஜ்யதே ||

வித்வத்வமும் அரசாளும் அதிகாரமும் ஒரு நாளும் சமம் அல்ல. (புலவரும் அரசரும் சமமானவர் அல்லர்) ஏனெனில் ஒரு அரசனின் மதிப்பு அவனுடைய ராஜ்ய எல்லைக்கு உட்பட்டிருக்கிறது. ஒரு வித்வானுக்கோ சென்ற இடமெல்லாம் சிறப்பு தான்.

கற்றவர்க்குச் சென்றவிடமெல்லாம் சிறப்பு என்பதைச் சொல்லும் பல தமிழ் செய்யுள்களை இங்கு ஒப்பு நோக்கலாம்.

Kingship and erudition are never comparable; because king’s adulation is restricted to his own kingdom while the sage is respected everywhere (king gets respect from his own country whereas learned person received it fro everywhere).
