Interview with Violinist Miss Aparna Raguraman of London by Sandhya Sridhar
Miss Sandhya Sridhar interviewed young London violinist Miss Aparna Raguraman
Daughter and Disciple of renowned musicians Sri Balu Raguraman & Smt Subathra Raguraman, Aparna Raguraman was initiated into the art of violin playing at a very young age. Milapfest awarded the National youth Fellowship to Aparna for the years 2020 and 2021, following with her violin Arangetram in the year 2022 with the support of Sri Srimushnam V Raja Rao. Aparna was featured as a special artiste in the group conducted by Miss Anoushka Shankar and performed at The Royal Festival Hall, South Bank Centre, London in 2022 and has toured Italy for a series of Concerts organized by the Isha Foundation. Aparna debuted her performances in the Chennai music season for several concerts in 2024. Having attended various workshop conducted by Sri Ganesh Rajagopalan and Sri Lalgudi Krishnan, Aparna now trains under Smt A Kanyakumari in Chennai.

Sandhya Sridhar is an Odissi dancer based in London, UK. Alongside her profession as a scientist, she has nurtured a range of arts from a young age. She hails from an artistic family- daughter of Smt. Geetha Sridhar, Bharathanatyam Dancer and niece of Kalaimamani Sukanya Ramesh, film actress and Bharathanatyam Dancer. Her maternal family is steeped in artistic lineage, descending from the eminent actress S Jayalakshmi, Veenai S Balachander and painter S Rajam.
She received tutelage in Carnatic violin from Sri Balu Raguraman at a young age at the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan.
She trained in Odissi dance with Smt Swapnokalpa Dasgupta (NCPA Mumbai), following induction into the form from Smt Sujata Mohapatra. She has additionally received tutelage from Smt Poushali Mukherjee and Smt. Barnali Mitra. She completed her Rang Manch Pravesh (debut performance) at Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan in Chennai in 2013- the first event of its kind in Chennai. She has performed at numerous events and festivals both in the UK and internationally, including International Yoga Day in London, Equator Festival, Kent and Indian High Commission Veterans Day.
Sandhya continues to practice and perform Odissi whilst pursuing her PhD with Imperial College London in Oncology.
