We went to the Sydney University museum on 9th January 2025. It is a small museum and one hour is enough to see the displayed objects. The museum is called CHAU CHAK WING MUSEUM.
The entry is free. Compared with the British Museum and V&A in London, it is nothing. But there are some unique design models and miniature models; I went with my grandchildren and they learnt a lot. The atmosphere is very quiet and the staff are very nice.
At the entrance you get a free booklet explaining the sections on different floors in the building. The collections include antiquities, contemporary art, natural history, and objects of indigenous culture. It is open seven days a week. There is a café and a gift shop.
Level 1
We saw antiquities from Cyprus and the Middle East; stuffed animals, birds; sea shells are also displayed. Café serving hot food and drinks.
China gallery
Level 2
The Mummy Room, Roman and Greek antiquities.
Level 3
Entrance, gift shop etc.
The latest addition is the China gallery which brings together the work of five contemporary Australian artists from Chinese communities. This is a unique section.
I like the Micro Macro section with models of insight and inspiration. This is also unique. It presents models in miniature scales; they are part of the teaching in the University of Sydney. Models made up of wax, papier maches, glass, brass and iron are displayed. Single cells are expanded by a magnitude of thousands and a whole suburb is shrunken to the size of a tabletop.
Mini instruments, minerals , aeroplane models are also on display. It will help Australian students to learn a lot and generate new interest in some subjects/ areas.
Temporary exhibitions are also held.
