Item 387 Valmiki Echo
In Puranānūru verse 34, Poet Ālathūr Kizhār said………………..
“They say that even those who are not righteous
and chop off the udders of cows, or abort the
fetuses of women wearing fine ornaments or
who harm their parents, may atone for their evil
deeds. But if someone ruined the kindness done
to them even if the earth moved, there is no
forgiveness for that, say the righteous books”.
These lines are adapted from Valmiki Ramayana 4-34-12. This is in Panchatantra and Mahabharata as well.
Valmiki Ramayana sloka 4-34-12
ब्रह्मघ्ने च सुरापे च चोरे भग्नव्रते तथा।
निष्कृतिर्विहिता सद्भि: कृतघ्ने नास्ति निष्कृतिः।।
(Valmiki Ramayana, 4-34-12)
go ghne ca eva suraape ca caure bhagna vrate tathaa |
niShkR^itir vihitaa sadbhiH kR^itaghne na asti niShkR^itiH || 4-34-12
12. go ghne = in respect of – cow, slayers; suraape ca eva = liquor-drinkers, also, thus; caure = for thieves; tathaa = likewise; bhagna vrate = infringers, of solemnity; sadbhiH niSkR^itiH vihitaa = by savants, atonement, ordained; kR^ita ghne niSkR^itiH na asti = for treacherous one, atonement, not, available.
” ‘The savants have ordained atonement for slayers of cows, for drinkers of liquors, thus for thieves and infringers of solemnity, but no atonement is available to a treacherous person. [4-34-12]
Valluvar also said in his Tirukkural
எந்நன்றி கொன்றார்க்கும் உய்வுண்டாம் உய்வில்லை
செய்ந்நன்றி கொன்ற மகற்கு.(குறள் 110 )
One may slain every goodness and yet escape,
But no escape for one who slain gratitude.

Item 388 Non Veg. Food Items
Tamil bards and kings used lot of non-vegetarian food ; Here Hare meat is referred to.
wealth to bards who utter sweet words and eat
huge balls of rich, cooked rice mixed with honey and
millet grown in dry fields, that are as large as the eggs
of pigeons, with cooked hare meat.”

Kalidasa’ Meghadutam is the first travelogue in the world; he traced also the course of South West Monsoon progressing towards the Himalaya. Here poet Ālathūr Kizhār sang about the East wind (Kondal in Tamil) blowing towards the Himalaya.

Item 390 Rain Drops Simile
Hindu poets use the simile of countless rain drops or the uncountable sand particles when they wish someone a long life.
May you live for more
years than the many raindrops showered by large clouds
that that come with the eastern wind and rumble sweetly
in the Himalayas, because of the good deeds that noble
people have done in this world!

Brahmins do Sandhya (Vandanam) three times a day.
That is referred to as ANTHI here, because Tolkappiam banned SA in Tamil as initial letter
காலை அந்தியும், மாலை அந்தியும், Pratha Sandhya and Sayam Sandhya are dome by Brahmins everyday.

Purananuru is corrupted by the Davidians in many places. One of the places is here. Instaed of Brahmins in the old boos in the libraries they replaced Gurvar (Guru)

But all the lines are from the Hindu Smritis (Law Books of Hindus)
Brahmahaththi (Brahmin murder)
Brunu haththi ( abortion done by anyone)
Guru Nindha ( Insulting Guru is one of the Pancha Maha Patakas)
Go Haththi (Cow murder) it is in all the Tamil and Sanskrit Inscriptions as well as all Smritis of Hindus
Now the BJP State Governments in India banned Go Haththi (Killing Cows)

Hindus believe the rains will pour down even if there is one good person in the city.
இவ்வுலகத்துச்
சான்றோர் செய்த நன்றுண்டாயின், 20
Tamil poetess Avvaiyar says it in one of her verses.
நெல்லுக்(கு) இறைத்தநீர் வாய்க்கால் வழியோடிப்
புல்லுக்கும் ஆங்கே பொசியுமாம் – தொல்லுலகில்
நல்லார் ஒருவர் உளரேல் அவர்பொருட்(டு)
எல்லார்க்கும் பெய்யும் மழை. 10 மூதுரை
When one irrigates the field that benefits not only the pady crops but also the grass there, the rain fall happens for one good person in the town (that benefits others too)
இதோ வள்ளூவன் எழுதிய குறள்:–
தெய்வம் தொழாஅள் கொழுநன் தொழுதெழுவாள்
பெய்யெனப் பெய்யும் மழை (குறள் 55)
தெய்வத்தைத் தொழாமல் தன் கணவனைத் தொழுது எழுகின்ற ஒரு பெண் ‘பெய்’ என்றால் மழை பெய்யும்..
மநு நீதி நூலிலும் (9-247) நல்ல மன்னவன் ஆட்சியில் பருவ மழை தவறாது என்கிறார்.
9-247- நல்ல மன்னன் நாட்டில் நிலங்கள் தானாக விளையும் .(வள்ளுவனும் குறளில் 545, 559, 560 சொல்லும் அதிசயம்; காளிதாசனும் இந்த அதிசயத்தை விளம்புவான்
முறைகோடி மன்னவன் செய்யின் உறைகோடி
ஒல்லாது வானம் பெயல்–குறள் 559
அரசன் முறை தவறி நாட்டை ஆட்சி செய்வானானால், அந்த நாட்டில் பருவமழை தவறி மேகம் மழை பெய்யாமல் போகும்.

GURAVAR is wrongly interpreted as Parents. It is GURU/Teacher

செய்தி கொன்றோர்க்கு உய்தி இல்’ என,
அறம் பாடிற்றே, ஆயிழை கணவ!

புறவுக் கருவன்ன புன்புல வரகின்
பால் பெய் புன்கம் தேனொடு மயக்கிக், 10

இரத்தி நீடிய அகன்தலை மன்றத்துக்,
கரப்பு இல் உள்ளமொடு வேண்டு மொழி பயிற்றி,

Item 396 Three Kingdoms (Puranānūru 35)
From the ancient days only three kingdoms- Chera, Choza, Pandya Kingdoms were recognised as the original rulers. This shows that Tamils were well organised

Item 397 Venus and Rain (Puranānūru 35)
Forecast of rains was based on the movement of the planet Venus. At the end of Purananuru all Venus poems are placed together. So this is NOT the only reference to Venus and rains. So far we have no scientific evidence to this belief. Further research is required

Importance of Farming
Here in the verse Puram 35 the poet advises the king to focus his attention on cultivation and irrigation. We have proof that Tamil kings like Karikalan built dams for irrigation.

Another advice by the poet is
Don’t listen to useless words.
If you really understand this, you will not listen to
uselesswords that are uttered by slanderers! If you take care of farmers
who work with their oxen and all the other communities, even your
enemies will praise your feet!
Tiruvalluvar also emphasized the importance of Agriculture in ten couplets
Farmers are the linchpin of the world For they support all others who cannot till.
They only live who live by the plough. The rest must stoop and trail behind.
Those who eat what their hands produce Neither beg nor refuse a beggar.
Mother Earth laughs at the sight of those Who remain idle pleading poverty.

Puranānūru 35, Poet Vellaikudi Nākanār sang to Chozhan Kulamutrathu Thunjiya Killivalavan

In this dense world where winds cannot penetrate,
decorated with the sky, with huge ocean as its limits,
among the three who rule over the cool Thamizh land with
roaring drums and armies, your royalty alone is true royalty!
O greatness!

Even if the moving sun’s rays appear on four sides,
even if Venus moves to the south, your country alone is truly
a country where lovely, cool Kāviri flows through many canals
and feeds the land, and appearing like spears, flowers of the
sugarcanes with swaying nodes sway!
O very proud king of a greatly prosperous country! I will
tell you something that concerns you! Listen to me! When one
rules with a perfect scepter like righteousness itself is ruling,
the poor receive showers when they ask for drops of rain.
Is your wide umbrella, which touches the sky and blinds the eyes
with its brightness, a shield against the sun, like a huge, round cloud
in the sky? No! O Valavan with sharp spears! It is a shield
for the suffering citizens!
On the wide battlefield where elephants lie scattered like pieces
of young palmyra tree trunks,
your army withstands the onslaught of attacking forces,
and cheers as it retreats, its victories rising from what grows inthe furrows dug by plows.

If the rains should fail, if harvests shrink,
and if people do deeds that are not natural, those in this vast world
blame the kings. If you really understand this, you will not listen to
