To attain full Vedic Knowledge, remember the following five:

Gananaatha

Sarasvatii

Ravi

Sukra

Brhaspati

Gananaathasarasvatii ravisukrabrhaspatin

Pancaitani smarennityam vedavanipravruttaye

My comments: Gananatha stands for Siva and Ganesh. All the Vedic prayers start with a hymn on Ganesh: Gananam tva ganapathihum…………

Sarasvati- Goddess of Knowledge

Ravi is Sun, also the symbol for Veda Mata Gayatri.

Sukra (Venus) and Brhaspati (Jupiter) stand for the teachers of Demons and Angels/Devas respectively. Both of them are praised as Two Great Brahmins in Tamil and Sanskrit literature. They were the most famous teachers of ancient Hindu world.

If one remembers all the above five, they derive great inspiration to imbibe more.

My comments:

If you know the mythological stories of these people, then you will understand better the logic behind these five names.

1.Agastya was a short person who travelled from North India to South India at the request of Lord Siva to solve the problem of population explosion in the North. At that time South India was least populated. Moreover he was a great Hindu engineer who diverted the River Kaveri in to the plains of Tamil Nadu and laid a new road route to South India via Vindhya Mountains. He also crossed the Bay of Bengal n a naval expedition to South East Asia and established Hindu empire there. But all these facts are hidden in mythological stories (Please read my previous research papers).

At that time South India was infested with cannibals. One of the cannibals Ilvala killed lot of seers. He used to ‘cook’ his brother Vatapi and feed the seers. As soon as they ate ‘him’, he used to call his brother Vatapi to come out and he would do it by tearing open the  stomachs of the seers. Ilvala tried the same trick with Agastya. Knowing the cunningness of Ilvala, Agastya ‘ate’ Vatapi dish and said “Vatapi jeerno Bhava”, when Ilvala called him. But he died inside the stomach of Agastya when he said “Let Vatapi get digested” (vatapi jeerna bhava).

2.Kumbhakarana used to eat for six months and sleep for the next six months. He was the brother of Ravana, the king and demon of Sri Lanka. Though he was a great eater, he got everything digested. If someone sleeps peacefully like Kumbha karna after a big meal, food will get easily digested. We don’t need to sleep for six months like him. You need a good, long and sound sleep for good digestion.

3.Vadavanala is the submarine fire in Hindu mythology. During volcanic eruptions under the ocean, it comes out and make Tsunamis to happen. Tsunamis create mysterious fires and devour lands and other objects on its way. If one could remember it, he would get the confidence of digesting anything.

4.Vrkodara alias Bheema was one of the five Pandava brothers. Bheema would consume anything that comes his way. When a demon called Bakasura who killed villagers, Bheema went all alone, ate the carts load of food sent for him and killed the demon Bakasura as well. So he stands for good appetites, great food and easy digestion.

5.Sani graha, planet Saturn, is in charge of longevity, disease and death in Hindu astrology. He is in charge of large intestines and feet. Apart from this, my friend and priest Sri M N Kalyanasundaram of Trichy, living in London, gave me a reasonable explanation to link Sani/Saturn with digestion. According to our Hindu astrology, Sani/Saturn governs the metal IRON. And in our blood vessels, the most important metal is iron. If haemoglobin is less, all problems crop up. So doctors first check our iron (haemoglobin) level as soon as we go into the clinic with some complaints. That way Sani is connected with blood and digestion.

So if one wishes that he or she should live for long without any disease, one should know digestion and absorption are essential. Remember the above five great personalities who got digested anything in their way!

We know people who eat some tablets for digestion after dinner. But if they give some positive thoughts about the five characters mentioned here, it will improve their digestion. It is more of a psychological treatment rather than a physical treatment.
