உடுப்பி மாவட்டத்தில் உள்ள, அஷ்ட மடங்களில் ஒன்றான சிரூர் மடத்தின் மடாதிபதியாக 16 வயது சிறுவன் அனிருத் நியமிக்கப்பட்டு இருக்கிறான். அவனுக்கு அடுத்த மாதம் பட்டாபிஷேகம் நடைபெறுகிறது.
கர்நாடக மக்களால் வேதாந்தி, தத்துவவாதி என்று போற்றப்படும் மத்வாச்சாரியாரால் உடுப்பி மாவட்டத்தில் 8 மடங்கள் அமைக்கப்பட்டன. அவை பெஜாவர், பலிமாறு, அடமாறு, புத்திகே சோதே, கனியூறு, சிரூரு, கிருஷ்ணபுரா ஆகிய 8 மடங்கள் ஆகும். இந்த 8 மடங்களையும் சேர்த்து ஒன்றாக அஷ்ட மடங்கள் என்று மக்கள் அழைக்கின்றனர். இந்த அஷ்ட மடங்களில் பெஜாவர் மடம் தான் தலையாய மடம் என்று கூறப்படுகிறது.

இந்த நிலையில் சிரூர் மடத்தின் மடாதிபதியாக வித்யோதயா பள்ளி மாணவனான 16 வயதே நிரம்பிய அனிருத் நியமிக்கப்பட்டு இருக்கிறார். இவர் துளு மொழி பேசும் பிராமண வகுப்பைச் சேர்ந்தவர் என்பது குறிப்பிடத்தக்கது. சிரூர் மடத்தின் மடாதிபதியாக அனிருத் நியமிக்கப்பட்டு இருப்பது குறித்து உடுப்பியில் சோதே மடத்தின் மடாதிபதி விஸ்வவல்லப தீர்த்த ஸ்ரீபாதரு சுவாமி நிருபர்களுக்கு பேட்டி அளித்தார். அப்போது அவர் கூறியதாவது:-
அனிருத், தட்சிண கன்னடா மாவட்டம் தர்மஸ்தலா பகுதியைச் சேர்ந்தவர். இவர் சிரூர் மடாதிபதியாக நியமிக்கப்பட்டு இருக்கிறார். இவருக்கான பட்டாபிஷேக விழா அடுத்த மாதம்(மே) 11-ந் தேதி முதல் 14-ந் தேதி வரை உத்தர கன்னடா மாவட்டம் சோதே மடத்தில் நடக்கிறது.
அதற்கு முன்பாக இவர் அஷ்ட மடங்களிலும் சன்னியாசம் பெறும் நிகழ்ச்சி நடைபெறும். இது அஷ்ட மடங்களின் சம்பிரதாய முறைப்படி நடக்கிறது. அஷ்ட மடங்களின் யாகம விதிகளின்படி சன்னியாசம் பெற்ற பிறகு அனிருத்துக்கு மடம் சார்பில் பெயர் சூட்டப்பட்டு, அவர் சிரூர் மடத்தின் மடாதிபதியாக பதவி ஏற்பார்.

TTD announces that Tirumala is birthplace of Lord Hanuman, provides ‘evidence’
The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) on Wednesday announced that Japali Theertham near Akasha Ganga waterfall in Tirumala Hills was the birthplace of Lord Hanuman. The announcement cam on April 21, that is National Sanskrit University vice-chancellor V Muralidhara Sharma, who was one of the experts on the committee constituted by the TTD to establish Anjanadri Hill of the Seven Hills (Tirumala Hills) as the birthplace of Hanuman, announced at a programme organised in Tirumala that this was established after four months of intense research and collecting various pieces of evidence.
“It has been established based on puranic anthologies, literary evidence, epigraphic evidence and geographic details,” he said and added that Venkatachalam is also known as Anjanadri and 19 other names. Hanuman was born on Anjanadri in Treta Yuga, he said.
He said they have collected evidence from 12 Puranas and as for literary evidence, they were found in verses of Kamba Ramayanam and Annamacharya Sankeerthanas. He said that epigraphic evidence includes inscriptions found in Tirumala temple that in 12th and 13th-century Venkatachala Mahtyam was recited in Tirumala temple, processional deity of Sri Rangajanaya was brought to Anajandri for protection during the attack of Turks and later taken from there to Srirangam, inscriptions at Varadaraja Swamy temple in Kanchipuram, Sawal-e-Jawab, a record of practices engaged in Tirumala by North Arcot First Collector G Stratton in 1801–2 and later translated by VN Srinivas Rao in 1950.
As for geographical details, Sharma said in Skanda Puranam, when Anjana Devi asked Sage Matanga where Venkatachalam is, he clearly explained that it is north of Swarnamukhi river and 12 yojanas from Ahobilam.
“Claims that Hampi is the birthplace of Hanuman are not true. Hampi is Kishkinda while Venakatchalam is Anjanadri. It is clearly evident from the conversation between Sugreeva and Hanuman when the former asks the latter to bring Vanaras from Anajandri. If it was in Kishkinda, he would not have asked that way,” he said. He also dismissed the claims of other places like in Bhoomla district of Jharkhand, Gujarat and Kaikal in Haryana.
Tamil Nadu governor Banwarilal Purohit, TTD Executive Officer Dr KS Jawahar Reddy, who constituted the committee to determine the birthplace of Lord Hanuman, additional EO Dharma Reddy and others were present.
Other Claims
However, there is doubt among some historians over Anjaneya’s birthplace. The five other places which claim Hanuman originated from include:
1. There is a hillock near Anjanadri at Hampi in Karnataka. But scholars of Kannada University at Hampi affirmed that there is no material evidence to prove that.
2. Anjan village, 21 km from Gumla district headquarter in Jharkhand.
3. Anjan mountain in Navsari region of Gujarat.
4. Kaithal region in Haryana
5. Anjaneri, 7 km from Triambakeswar in Nashik district of Maharashtra
Historians contend that the Hampi region was popularly known as Kishkinda in legends and Puranas. Hence, Anjaneya could have gone to Hampi from Tirumala, which was just 363 km away. They also scientifically say that Hampi was 1,240 km from Gumla in Jharkhand, 1,626 km from Kaithal of Haryana, 616 km from Maharashtra, and ruled them all out and suggested that migration to Hampi is feasible.

Restrictions on darshans in Tirumala
Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) is likely to impose restrictions on darshan of Lord Venkateswara in Tirumala due to the rising intensity Covid-19 cases in the country. Free Darshan is completely stopped. More restrictions on special entry tickets are also expected.
It is now mulling cutting down on daily issuance of Rs. 300 special entry darshan tickets too, starting from the month of May. Guidelines in this regard are expected to be released soon.
The devasthanam has in a statement said devotees, who have booked Rs. 300 special entry darshan tickets online for darshan from April 21 till April 30; but cannot come to Tirumala due to rising cases of Coronavirus in the country, can use the same tickets for darshan in the next 90 days.

At a press meet in Udupi on Wednesday, the Sode seer introduced Aniruddha Saralatthaya, a class X student, who will be the next head of the Shiroor mutt.
Three years after the death of Shiroor mutt chief Swami Lakshmivara Teertha, a 16-year old boy has been named as his successor by Sode mutt seer Sri Vishwa vallabha Teertha.
Shiroor mutt is one of the ‘Ashta’ (eight) mutts of Udupi. Lakshmivara Teertha died on July 19, 2018, without naming a successor. Vishwavallabha Teertha, seer of Sode mutt, the ‘Dwandva’ Mutt of Shiroor, has been handling the mutt’s activities.

Registration for Amarnath Yatra temporarily suspended
In view of evolving Covid-19 situation, registration for Amarnath Yatra is being temporarily suspended, said Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board on Thursday.
The board further said that the situation is being constantly monitored and it will be reopened once the situation is improved.
Online registrations for this year’s Amarnath Yatra commenced on April 15.
This year’s 56 day-yatra will commence simultaneously on both routes from June 28 and culminate on Raksha Bandhan, August 22.
The yatris who propose to travel by helicopter do not require registration as their helicopter tickets shall suffice for this purpose. However, they shall be required to produce the Compulsory Health Certificate,(CHC) in the prescribed format issued by an authorised doctor, before they are allowed to travel by helicopter.

Thirrsur Pooram celebrated without pomp amid Covid
Amid strict vigil and restrictions in the wake of surging Covid-19 cases in the second wave of the pandemic in Kerala and across the country, Thirrsur Pooram was celebrated on Friday without spectators.
Unlike the usual pomp and thunderous cheers of spectators — who enjoy the ensemble of percussion instruments and parade of 80-odd, caparisoned elephants — this time, Pooram was restricted to mere rituals.
The entry was restricted to only artists, temple board members, mahouts and others involved in the rituals of the festival. Earlier, the temple body and many Hindu outfits had insisted for a regular festival, citing the just- concluded assembly elections, but after several rounds of discussion, all agreed to limit the festival to mere rituals.
The lack of spectators, however, failed to dampen the grandeur of the visual spectacle. The Pandi Melam led by maestro Peruvanam Kuttan Marar enthralled the festival, which was live streamed by many channels. Thiruvambadi temple only paraded only one elephant, but Paramekavu Devi temple brought 15 jumbos and Kudamattom, the change of colourful parasols in quick succession, added to the grandeur.
The largest cultural pageant of the state, Pooram was started in the late 18th century by erstwhile King of Kochi, Sakthan Thamburan. Every year, the festival is held at Vadukunathan temple in Thrissur. But last year, it was not held in view of the pandemic situation. Usually, more than two million devotees take part in the 10-day celebration, which culminates with a musical ensemble and grand fireworks. It is also a major tourist attraction of the state. But over the last two years, pandemic has taken sheen out of the festival.

Planting trees crucial to protect soil’s fertility: Isha founder
Fertile soil is the real asset of the nation and planting trees is crucial to protect the fertility of the soil and the health of the people, Isha Foundation Founder Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev said on Thursday.
This is the primary objective of Isha’s Cauvery Calling movement which is encouraging farmers in Tamil Nadu and Karnataka to adopt tree-based agriculture which has proven to yield enormous ecological and economic benefits for the farmer,a release from Isha said on the occasion of World Earth Day.
“Mother Earth is so generous. If only we give her the chance, she will restore everything in absolute abundance and beauty,” he said in a message.
In the 2020 planting season, farmers in both states planted 1.1 crore saplings on their farmlands in the Cauvery river basin which is expected to have a significant impact on the soil health and water holding capacity of the densely populated river basin, the release said.
“Without fertile soil, there is no question of abundant water as healthy soil is the greatest reservoir of water. Nutrient-rich soil can absorb rainwater and store it underground, protecting it from evaporation and recharging groundwater tables,” the spiritual leader said.

Fugitive godman Swami Nithyananda bans Indians from entering ‘Kailasa’ ISLAND NATION
Fugitive godman Swami Nithyananda has banned Indians from entering ‘Kailasa’, his island ‘nation’ due to the ongoing Covid pandemic.
Nithyananda has also banned travellers from Brazil, European Union, and Malaysia. His statement was released in a video.
In December 2020, Nithyananda had made headlines when he announced a 3-day visa to ‘Kailaasa’ off the coast of Ecuador in South America.
When the Covid-19 pandemic struck the world in March this year, Nithyananda had made headlines saying that those who made fun of him for going into self-isolation are scrambling to find a place where they can quarantine themselves, a media report said.

While the police were investigating how Nithyananda managed to flee the country when his passport had expired, shockingly, the website says ‘Kailaasa’ has its own “passport”. The symbols on the passport include the flag of Kailaasa, called Rishabha Dhvaja, and features Nithyananda along with Nandi, Lord Shiva’s mount.

Mangaluru temple authorities booked for violating COVID-19 norms
The authorities of the Ullal Somanath temple near Mangaluru in Karnataka have been booked by the local police on charges of violating COVID-19 guidelines by organising a religious event in which thousands of devotees had participated.
Mangaluru tahsildar Guruprasad had issued a notice to the temple at Ullal three days ago seeking a reply. On Tuesday, Ullal police registered a case under the Epidemic Act and section 269 of the Indian Penal Code for organizing the ‘Jatrotsav’ violating the state government order.
As part of Brahma kalasha Utsav, the temple authorities had organised a chariot procession and ‘hore kanike’ on Monday. Thousands of devotees from various corners had gathered for the procession and many were seen not wearing masks or maintaining social distancing.

சிவபிரான் தாண்டவமாடிய பஞ்ச ஸ்தலங்களில் இது ரஜத சபை எனப்படும் வெள்ளியம்பலம் ஆகும். இங்கு இறைவன் கால் மாறி வலது காலைத் தூக்கி நடனமாடிய கோலத்தில் இருக்கும் அபூர்வ காட்சியைக் கண்டு மகிழலாம்.

அறுபத்துநான்கு திருவிளையாடல்களைக் கொண்ட அற்புதத் தலம் இது. பிட்டுக்கு மண் சுமந்தது, நரியைப் பரி ஆக்கியது உள்ளிட்ட வரலாறுகளை அனைவரும் அறிவோம். அத்திருவிளையாடல்களின் சின்னங்களாக ஆனைமலை, பசுமலை, நாகமலை உள்ளிட்டவை இன்றும் மதுரை நகரிலும் மதுரையைச் சுற்றிலும் உள்ளன. சுவாமி சந்நிதி பிரகாரங்களில், இந்த 64 விளையாடல்களின் சித்திரங்களைக் காணலாம். கோவிலைச் சுற்றி சதுர வடிவில் ஆடி, ஆவணி, சித்திரை, மாசி வீதி என மாதங்களின் பெயர்களைக் கொண்ட வீதிகள் உள்ளன. மாசி வீதியில் சித்திரை மாதம் நடைபெறும் தேரோட்டம் குறிப்பிடத் தகுந்த ஒரு நிகழ்ச்சியாகும். கோவிலில் 14 கோபுரங்கள் உள்ளன. தெற்குக் கோபுரம் 170 அடி உயரம் கொண்டு வானளாவி இருக்கிறது.
பாண்டிய நாட்டில் முக்கியத் தலமாகத் திகழும் இதில் ஞானசம்பந்தர் 9 பதிகங்களையும் அப்பர் இரு பதிகங்களையும் அருளியுள்ளனர். அருணகிரிநாதர் 12 திருப்புகழ் பாடல்களை அருளியுள்ளார். நின்றசீர் நெடுமாறர், மங்கையர்க்கரசியார், மூர்த்தியார் ஆகிய நாயன்மார்கள், சுந்தரர், மாணிக்கவாசகர், அப்பய்ய தீக்ஷிதர்,நீலகண்ட தீக்ஷிதர் உள்ளிட்ட ஏராளமான சித்தர்கள், மகான்கள் வசித்த தலம் இது. பகவான் ரமணர் உயரிய ஞான அனுபவம் பெற்ற இல்லம் தெற்கு கோபுரத்திற்கு எதிரில் உள்ள தெருவில் சிறிது தூரத்தில் உள்ளது.
திருப்பல்லாண்டு பாடப்பட்ட வைணவ திருத்தலமும் மதுரையே. ஸ்ரீ கூடலழகர் அருள் பாலிக்கும் இது 108 வைஷ்ணவ திவ்ய க்ஷேத்திரங்களுள் ஒன்றாகவும் அமைகிறது. பாண்டியனுக்கு மெய் காட்டிய பொட்டல் இன்று பேச்சு வழக்கில் மேங்காட்டுப் பொட்டலாக மாறி உள்ளது. இது மீனாட்சிஅம்மன் தெற்குக் கோபுரத்திற்கு மிக அருகே உள்ளது. காலம் காலமாக லட்சக்கணக்கான பக்தர்கள் வழிபட்டு வரும் ஸ்ரீ மீனாக்ஷி சுந்தரேஸ்வரர் அனைவருக்கும் சர்வ மங்களத்தைத் தர ஞானமயம் சார்பில் பிரார்த்திக்கிறோம்.

உனது நாக்கு நுனியில் தான் லக்ஷ்மி வசிக்கிறாள். உனது நாக்கு நுனியில் தான் நண்பர்களும் உறவினர்களும் உள்ளனர் – (இனிமையான வார்த்தைகளைப் பேசும் போது!) அதே நாக்கு தான் உன்னைச் சிறைக்கும் கொண்டு செல்லும், ஏன் மரணத்திற்கே கூட இட்டுச் செல்லும் கடினமான வார்த்தைகளைப் பேசினால்!
At the tip of your tongue reside riches and also friends and relatives (when it utters sweet words). The same tongue can lead to prison or even death if it utters harsh words.

சர்வநாஷே சமுத்பன்னே ஹ்ரார்தம் த்யஜதி பண்டித: |
அர்தேன குருதே கார்யம் சர்வநாஷோ ந ஜாயதே ||
சர்வ நாசம் ஏற்படும் ஒரு நிலையில் புத்திசாலியானவன் பாதி நாசமடைவதை தன் விருப்பத்துடனேயே அனுமதிக்கிறான். இப்படியாக, மீதி இருக்கும் பாதியுடன் சர்வ நாசத்திலிருந்து அவன் தன்னைக் காப்பாற்றிக் கொள்கிறான்.
When a situation arises of total ruination, a wise person willfully allows destruction of half. Thus, he is able to pull along with remaining half and saves himself from total ruination.

பேராசை பிடித்த ஒருவனை புத்திசாலியானவன் பணத்தைக் கொடுத்து வெல்ல வேண்டும். கோபம் கொண்டவனையோ உடனடி சரணாகதி மூலம் வெற்றி பெற வேண்டும். முட்டாளையோ அவன் சொன்னதை ஆமோதித்து வெல்ல வேண்டும். பண்டிதனான ஒருவனையோ தத்வார்த்தம் (உண்மையைச்) சொல்லி வெல்ல வேண்டும்.

A wise man should win over a greedy person by offering money, an angry person by instant surrendering, a fooling person by supporting his viewpoint and a learned by merely stating truth.

க்ரோதவந்தம் மதோன்மத்தம் நமஸ்காரேபி வர்ஜயேத் |
தூரத்தில் நின்று கொண்டிருக்கும் ஒருவனுக்கோ அல்லது ஆற்றில் இருக்கும் ஒருவனுக்கோ அல்லது ஓடிக் கொண்டிருக்கும் ஒருவனுக்கோ அல்லது கோபத்துடன் இருக்கும் ஒருவனுக்கோ அல்லது தனது செல்வாக்கினால் கர்வம் பிடித்த ஒருவனுக்கோ நமஸ்காரம் செய்யக் கூடாது.
One should avoid doing pleasantries to a person standing far away or in a river or who is running or is proud of his own affluence or full of anger and pride.

சலம் சித்தம் சலம் பித்தம் சலே ஜீவிதயௌவநே |
சலாசலமிதம் சர்வம் கீர்திர்யஸ்ய ச ஜீவதி ||
மனம் சஞ்சலமானது. செல்வம் மாறும் இயல்புடையது, நிலையற்றது. அதே போலத் தான் ஜீவிதமும் (வாழ்க்கையும்), இளமையும் கூட! சுருக்கமாகச் சொல்லப் போனால் இந்த உலகில் அனைத்துமே நிலையற்றவை தாம்! ஆனால் எவன் ஒருவன் தனது புண்ணியச் செயல்களால் அழியாத கீர்த்தியைப் பெறுகிறானோ அவனே நிலையாக வாழ்பவன் ஆவான்.
The mind is fickle, wealth is transient and so is life as well as youth: in short, all in the world is transitory, but he only lives for ever who has earned everlasting fame through his meritorious deeds.

Panini in his grammar work Ashtadhyayi gives interesting information about citizenship, patriotism, and qualifications of an assembly member
Classmates are called ‘sa brahmachar’i by Panini. In the same way citizens of a particular Janapada/ country were called ‘sa Janapada’(Sutra 6-3-85)
Socrates of Greece, talks about loyalty to his country
“As to his parents and his master , so to the laws and his country, he must not return injury for injury, nor blow for blow. Country is more than a mother. For her sake all things must be endured”.
Whatever Socrates said was from the ancient Hindu scriptures; in other words ‘un Greek’ principles. That is why he was hated and accused of poisoning the youths.
‘Matha pitha guru deivam’ is a Vedic tenet. He repeated this in the above quote.
Don’t return injury for injury is in Buddha’s Dhammapada and Valluvar’s Tirukkural
Concept of Motherland is in the Atharva Veda-
Maataah bhuumih upto aham prithivyah

Earth is my Mother, I am the son of the earth
Laws of the Janapada must be obeyed and Panini called it Bhakti, i.e. the political and moral allegiance of the citizens both to the Janapada and Janapadins (Sutra 4-3-100)
A citizen of the Anga Janapada was called ‘Aangaka’ with reference to his Bhakti to the Anga state .
The two fold Bhakti is here significantly distinguished, viz. to the state in theory and to his government in practical life.
Mahabharata says
Namo Dharmaya mahate dharmo dharayati prajah
—Udyoga parva 137-9
Dharma or the law is the foundation.
Panini used ‘Dhaarmiika’, ‘Dharmam charati’ where ‘charati’ is explained as ‘aasevaa’ habitual moral conduct or practice of virtue.
The ideal of the Janapada state was the highest development of virtue and its object was to produce the perfect citizen.
This ideal is embodied in the famous words of King Asvapati of Kekaya which he uttered in the presence of such citizens as were house holders posessing magnificent mansions, (Mahaa saalaa) supplied with all the luxuries that Janapada life would provide, but who still chose the path of virtue and learning, (Mahaa srotriya )
“Within my realm ( Janapada ) there is no thief
No miser, nor a drinking man,
None altarless, none ignorant,
No man unchaste, no wife unchaste”
–Chandogya Upanishad 5-11-5
We see such principles, statements In Vidura Niti, Chanakya Niti and even in the writings of Chinese traveller Fahiyan . He said there were no thieves in India and people left the doors open duing night time.
Buddha in dhammapada says
“For hate is not conquered by hate;
Hate is conquered by love. This is a law eternal”
Dhammapada 5
Valluvar in Tirukkural 314 says ,
“The best way to punish those who harm you is to make them feel abashed by doing them good and thinking no more of it”—Kural 314
“Of what avail is perfection if it does not do good even to them that have done evil?” Kural 987

Assembly in the Vedas
Each Janapada/State had its assembly / Sabhaa and a governing council / Parishad.
In Greece 20 year old youths became assembly membeSr after two year military training. Panini also refers to such qualification with the word Sabhya which means he can attend the ‘ Sabhaa’.
‘Sabhaayaa yah’ 4-4-105
‘Sabhaayaam saaduh’ where ‘saaduh’ means yogya/qualified.
A Kshatriya young man, when eighteen years of age acquired the privilege of becoming a ‘kavacha hara’/ fit for military duty (3-2-10)
And at the age of 21, became privileged for all political rights and duties.
The new word ‘Sabhya’ was equivalent in meaning to the Vedic ‘sabheya’ which Panini himself records as an old chandasa/ Vedic term (4-4-106)
Sabhaa had a two -fold meaning i.e. the assembly and the assembly hall (Saalaa 2-4-23, 24)
Till this day Sabha is used for assembly in all Indian languages including Tamil (Sabha- Avai; Sa is banned by Tolkaappiyar. So AVAI; B=V)
Thousands of years later than Vedas , Uttaramerur Inscription in Tamil Nadu gives more details about the qualification to contest for a council post.
India is the oldest democracy in the world. Before Greeks started writing, we had Sabhas/Assembly!
