A priest was preaching a sermon in the church. Hundreds of people formed the congregation in which there were some diseased, poor and crippled persons. The priest told the people that God doesn’t make any difference between the rich and the poor, the diseased and the healthy, the able bodied and the crippled. His grace pours on all alike, whatever their external conditions

In the course of the sermon, the priest’s eye lighted upon a broken candle lying on the floor. He got down from the pulpit, took the candle, and holding it before the congregation, lit it up with a match and it gave light. The candle though crushed and crumpled burnt bright by the touch of the flame. The match did not deny its fire to the candle because it was broken, and the candle gave full light inspire of its broken condition. This example struck Ramdas as unique. Really, God is all compassion and mercy. He pours his grace on any person who opens his heart to receive it.

7.பல்லுயிர்ப் பெருக்கத்தைப் பாதுகாப்போம்!

 

சுற்றுப்புறச்சூழலைப் பாதுகாக்க மனித குலம் எதிர்நோக்கியுள்ள பிரச்சினைகள் பல. அவற்றுள் முக்கியமான ஒன்று பயோடைவர்ஸிடி என்னும் பல்லுயிர்ப் பெருக்கத்தைப் பாதுகாப்பதாகும்.

பூமியில் ஒரு குறித்த பகுதியில் காணப்படும் உயிரினங்களின் வகைகள் மற்றும் எண்ணிக்கையில் பல்வகைமையைக் கொண்டிருப்பதையே பயோடைவர்ஸிடி அல்லது பல்லுயிர்ப் பெருக்கம் என்று கூறுகிறோம்.

ஒரு ஆரோக்கியமான பல்லுயிர்ப் பெருக்கம் ஏன் தேவை?

அது ஒவ்வொருவருக்கும் இயற்கை ஆதாரங்கள் பலவற்றை வழங்குகிறது என்பதால்!

பயோடைவர்ஸிடி அல்லது பல்லுயிர்ப்பெருக்கத்தினால் ஏற்படும் முக்கியமான நன்மைகளுள் சிலவற்றைப் பார்ப்போம்:

சுற்றுப்புறச்சூழல் மனித குலத்திற்குத் தரும், நீர் ஆதாரத்தை அது பாதுகாக்கிறது.

மணல் ஆதாரத்தை அது உருவாக்குகிறது; மற்றும் பாதுகாக்கிறது.

ஊட்டச் சத்துக்களை சேமித்து வைக்கிறது; மறு சுழற்சி செய்து தருகிறது.

சுற்றுப்புறச் சூழல் மாசுகளை தகர்க்கிறது; உறிஞ்சிக் கொள்கிறது.

உலகின் தட்பவெப்ப நிலையைச் சீராகப் பராமரிக்க உதவுகிறது.

சுற்றுப்புறச் சூழல் அமைப்புகளைப் பராமரிக்கிறது.

எதிர்பாராது எற்படும் இயற்கை நிகழ்வுகளிலிருந்து நம்மை மீட்கிறது.

உயிரிய ஆதாரங்களான  உணவு, மருத்துவ ஆதாரங்கள் மற்றும் மருந்து தயாரிக்க உதவும் செடிகள், மரச் சாமான்களைத் தயாரிக்க உதவும் மரங்கள், அலங்காரச் செடிகள் ஆகியவற்றைப் பாதுகாக்கிறது. பறவைகளுக்கான உணவு வகைகளைத் தருவதோடு  பல்வேறு வகை உயிரினங்களின் பாதுகாப்பு, மரபணு பாதுகாப்பு ஆகியவற்றிற்கும் உதவி செய்கிறது.

இது தவிர சமூகத்திற்கு ஆதாயம் தரும் வகையில் பண்பாட்டைப் பாதுகாத்துப் பேணுகிறது; உல்லாச சுற்றுலா ஸ்தலங்களை உருவாக்கி மக்களை மகிழ்விக்கிறது. எதிர்காலத்திற்கான கல்வி மற்றும் ஆராய்ச்சிக்குப் பெரிதும் உதவுகிறது.

ஒரு செலவும் இல்லாமல் இயற்கை நமக்குத் தரும் இதைப் பாதுகாக்க வேண்டும் அல்லவா? இவற்றை நாமே அமைக்க முயன்றால் அதற்கு ஆகும் செலவு கோடானு கோடிகளைத் தாண்டும்.அதோடு இதை உருவாக்கப் பல்லாயிரம் பேர் பல்லாயிரம் ஆண்டுகள் முயற்சிக்க வேண்டும்.

ஆகவே அரிதாக நமக்கு இயற்கை அருளியுள்ள பயோடைவர்ஸிடி எனப்படும் பல்லுயிர்ப் பெருக்கத்தை அழிக்காமல் காத்து சுற்றுப்புறத்தைக் காப்பது நமது கடமை,அல்லவா!

Once a man invited son in law, who was living far away, to stay with him during holidays. When the letter was received by the son in law, there was an adventurer in his place, who knows the contents of the letter. This man thought it was a nice occasion for him to make the best of. When the son in law got into the train, he also boarded the same train, and at the destination both got down. The son in law was greeted by his brother in law who had come to the railway station in a car to receive him. When the son in law got into the car, the adventurer also got into the car. The son in law thought that this man might be some friend of his father in law’s family His brother in law thought that that he might be a friend of the son in law. They all reached the father in laws house and the guests were received with great honour and given nice rooms to stay, and they were all quite happy.

At the time of meals, this impostor would go and sit first, and before the others he would begin eating. Sometimes he even went into the kitchen to demand certain kinds of food he liked. Though this was noticed by the father in law, he did not tell him anything lest he should wound the feelings of his son in law. The imposter was also freely going to the son in law s room and using his shirts ties shoes and so on, without asking him. Though the son in law got annoyed at this, he did not complain as he took him to be a member or friend of his father in law s family. Thus from both sides this imposter was allowed full Liberty and was having a fine time.

Things went on like this, but a time came when both the father in law and the son in law were fed up with the fellow s behaviour. They did not know how to deal with him as each thought that he was the friend of the other. At last when the father in law could not tolerate him anymore he decided to go to his son in law and ask why he had brought such a man with him. At the very moment, his son in law also wanted to ask the father in law “What a pest you have here! Where from he has come? He doesn’t seem to be a member of the family. He comes to my room and uses freely whatever I have in my room. All my clean shirts have been put on and soiled by him”. When the father in law and the son in law met together in a room to discuss privately about this imposter, the imposter found out they were making enquiries about him, and suddenly disappeared by the back door.

So in the case of the ego, a mere enquiry makes this imposter to also to disappear. In fact you will discover there was no imposter ego at all. Ego is an illusion caused by your ignorance. The ignorance is removed by Atmavichar or Self enquiry. But you do not want to make the enquiry. You are so much obsessed by him that you allow him to dance to his tune. He brings nothing but misery for you.

கோமுட்டிகள் பிரயாண ஒற்றுமை

ஆறுபேர் கோமுட்டிகள் ஒரு ஊருக்குப் போகும் மார்க்கத்தில் கள்ளியும் கத்தாழையும் நிரம்பி, ஆதிசேடன் குட்டிகள் வசிக்கும் பாழுங்கோவிலொன்றிருந்தது. அக்கோவிலில் முக்குறுணியரிசிப் பிள்ளையாரொன்றிருந்தது. விரிந்த முகமும் பெரிய துதிக்கையும் ஒருவிரல் ஆழமுள்ள தொப்புளுமாய் வீற்றிருந்ததைக் காணவும் அதில் ஒருவருக்கு சேஷ்டை சும்மாவிராமல் பிள்ளையார் தொப்புளில் விரலை விட்டார். அப்போது உள்ளேயிருந்த கொள்ளித் தேளொன்று நறுக்கென்று கொட்டியது.

அவர் மூக்கில் விரலை வைத்துமுகர்ந்து பார்த்துக்கொண்டு மற்றொருவரிடம்,”ஏமி பாவா! மஞ்சி வாசனரா, கமகமனி மணக்குசுந்தி” என்றான். இதைக் கேட்டு நிஜமென நம்பிய மற்றொருவனும் தன் விரலையுந்திணித்தான். அவனையும் ஒரு போடு போட்டது. அவனும், :அவுனுரா, பாவா, கஸ்தூரி வசன, கதம்ப வாசன, அத்தர் வாசன, அந்தா சேரி அரிகுமுக்குலோபனிசேஸ்துந்தி” யென்றான்

மூன்றாமவன் கையை விட அவனையும் தீண்டவே அவன் முன்னவனைப் போல வாசனை பிடித்து மெச்சினான். அந்தப் பாழுந்தேளுக்கு விஷமெங்கிருந்ததோ தெரியவில்லை, அத்தனை பேரையும் கொட்டிவந்தது.

இப்படியிருக்க கடைசியான ஒருவன் கையை விட்டான். அவன் மட்டும் அலறிப் புடைத்துக்கொண்டு, “அரே உரே, தேளுரா தேளு, கொண்டித் தேளுரா” எனவே எல்லோரும், அவுனுரா மாஅப்ப” என்று கட்டிக்கொண்டு நெறியின் உபத்திரவத்தால் அழுது சந்தோஷித்தனர்.

6.உத்வேகமூட்டும் ஒரு காட்டின் கதை!

 

மரங்களை மனம் போன போக்கில் வெட்டி வீழ்த்தி சுற்றுப்புறச் சூழலுக்குப் பெருங்கேட்டைப் பலரும் ஏற்படுத்தும் இந்தக் காலத்தில் அனைவருக்கும் உத்வேகமூட்டும் விதத்தில் தனிநபராக இருந்து ஒரு காட்டையே உருவாக்கியுள்ளார் ஒருவர் என்றால் அது ஆச்சரியமான விஷயம் தானே!

கௌஹாத்தியிலிருந்து 350 கிலோமீட்டர் தொலைவில் உள்ள ஜோர்ஹாட்டை அடுத்துள்ள பிரம்மபுத்ரா நதியின் படுகை அருகே உள்ள பெரும் மணற்பரப்பில் ஜாதவ் பேரிக் (Jadav ) என்பவர் ஒரு காட்டையே அமைத்துள்ளார்.550 ஹெக்டேர் நிலப்பரப்பில் இவர் அமைத்துள்ள காடு தனி மனிதன் அமைத்த காடுகளில் மிகப் பெரிய ஒன்றாகும்.

1979ஆம் ஆண்டு பிரம்மபுத்ரா நதியில் ஏற்பட்ட பெரு வெள்ளம் காரணமாக ஏராளமான பாம்புகள் மணற்பரப்பில் ஒதுங்க அருகில் மரங்கள் ஏதும் இல்லாததால் அவை மடிந்தன,இதைப் பார்த்து மனம் நெகிழ்ந்த பதினாறே வயதான சிறுவன் ஜாதவ் அந்த உயிரினங்களைக் காக்க காடு ஒன்றை அமைப்பது என உறுதி பூண்டான்.

இடைவிடாத உழைப்பினால் அங்கிருந்த, எதுவுமே விளையமுடியாத மணற்பரப்பை மாற்ற ஆரம்பித்தான். இதற்கென செவ்வெறும்புகளை தூரத்திலிருந்த கிராமங்களிலிருந்து கொண்டு வந்து அந்த மணற்பரப்பில் வாழ வைத்து செடிகளை வளர்க்கலானான். இன்றோ ஆயிரமாயிரம் மரங்களைக் கொண்டு அனைவரையும் அதிசயக்க வைக்கும் அடர்ந்த காடாக அது மலர்ந்துள்ளது. கடந்த 32 ஆண்டுகளில் அந்தக் காடு ஏராளமான பறவைகளுக்கு இருப்பிடமாக ஆகியுள்ளது. முதலில் சிறு பறவைகள் வர ஆரம்பிக்கவே பின்னால் பருந்துகள் போன்றவையும் அங்கே வர ஆரம்பித்து வாழ ஆரம்பித்தன.

அதுமட்டுமின்றி அருகி வரும் இனமான புலிகள் கூட சிறிய அளவில் அங்கே வசித்து வருகின்றன. யானைகளோ விரும்பி கூட்டம் கூட்டமாக அங்கே வசிப்பதற்கு வந்து விட்டன.இயற்கை எப்போதுமே தானாகவே ஒரு உணவுச் சங்கிலியை அமைக்கிறது என்கிறார் ஜாதவ்.

இந்த உணவுக்காகவும் உறைவிடத்திற்காகவும் ஏராளமான மிருகங்கள் அங்கே வந்து சேரவே அது இயற்கைக் காடு போல இப்போது திகழ்கிறது.  சீதோஷ்ண நிலையை அந்தப் பகுதியில் மேம்படுத்தியுள்ளது.

அற்புதமான காட்டை இவர் உருவாக்கியதால் அவரது செல்லப் பெயரான மொலாய் என்பதை அதற்குச் சூட்டி அதை “மொலாய்க் காடு” என்றே அனைவரும் அழைக்கின்றனர்.

இந்த முயற்சியினால் ஏற்பட்ட வெற்றியைக் கவனித்த சுற்றுப்புறச்சூழல் ஆர்வலர்கள் இவரைப் பாராட்டியுள்ளனர். அரசும் பல்வேறு விதங்களில் உதவி புர முன் வந்துள்ளது.

தனி மனிதனாக இருந்து ஏழையான ஒருவர் இயற்கைச் செல்வத்தைக் காக்க ஒரு காட்டையே அமைத்திருக்கும் போது நாமும் நமது பங்கிற்கு இயற்கையைக் காக்க ஏதேனும் செய்ய வேண்டும் என்ற எண்ணத்தை மேற்கொள்வோம்; இயற்கை அன்னையைக் காப்போம்!

The respect which His Holiness Sringeri Shankaracharya had for tradition was so deep that he would not give his approval for an innovation even though it was not against the Sastras (scriptures)

Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya (1861- 1946) sent Dattatreya Krishna Tamale as the representative of himself and others to request His Holiness SRI SACHIDANANDA SIVA ABHINAVA NARASIMHA BHARATI SVAMINH (as the Mutt Chief 1879-1912) to come to Banaras in person and lay the foundation stone for the Hindu University there. He came to Sringeri with a letter of introduction from P.N Krishnamurthi, the then Devan of Mysore. After paying his respects to his H H, he opened the topic and conveyed to H H the earnest prayer of the Pandit and the public of Northern India generally to favour them with a visit which had long been overdue.

Tamale: it is long since an Acharya of Sringeri paid a visit to our parts and people are eagerly looking forward to Your Holiness’ visit at least on this occasion.

HH: I am very glad to hear of the noble work which the Pandit has taken up and of the earnest longing of the people there to see me. It is certainly proper that we should consent to carry out your request. But the distance that separates us from Banaras is very great and the date fixed for the laying of the foundation stone is so near that it is not possible for us to conform to our daily duties and yet reach Banaras in time. I am sorry I have to disappoint you.

Tamale: in our anxiety to have your Holiness at Banaras in time for the function, we have deeply thought over this aspect also and have come to a decision. We intend arranging for a special train or a special fleet of motor cars to take your Holiness and retinue without any hindrance to  the performance of the daily rites. I request therefore your Holiness will be pleased to comply with our request.

HH: it certainly gladdens us to know the deep devotion and enthusiasm of the people there to have us visit them. But we are constrained to point out our difficulty. Any kind of vehicle is prohibited for a Sanyasi. It is well known that our founder Sri Shankaracharya Bhagavatpada travelled throughout our country only on foot except on rare occasions when he availed himself of his power of yoga when he had to traverse long distances urgently. His successors also never used any vehicle. It was only during the time of Sri Vidyaranya that the Royal insignia like the palanquin, umbrella, thrown, crown etc were assigned to the head of this mutt. It is not possible to concede that our predecessors who were fully conversant with the Sastras accepted without reason or justification such an innovation.

It has to be surmised they accepted it not with any selfish motive but only with a view to attract ordinary people who were easily amenable to outward forms. So far as the later Acharyas are concerned, they did right in accepting the same, as it had the sanction of their predecessors. It is definitely stated the obedience to the word of Guru will not operate as a violation of any vow.

Astautaanya vratagnaani aapo muulam grutam payah

Havi braahmanakaamyaa sa gurorvacanam ausadham

Such is our justification for using palanquins.

Now you suggest another kind of vehicle, a train or a motor car. It does not seem to us travelling in either of them more objectionable. The only thig is that our predecessors have not been using it.  Further even though an act may be meritorious, it is not proper to do it if it is likely to be censured by the people. As no Acharya till now has travelled in a train or in a motor car, the people are likely to censure such an innovation.

 

Asvargyam lokavidvishta dharmayaasaret na tu

We are unwilling, therefore, to be the first to adopt this new kind of travel. When Sri Rama who was God incarnate and knew quite well  that Sita was without ant blemish , chose to exile her in deference to a stray popular calumny, how much more careful must be such as ourselves in adopting a method not sanctioned by tradition? I hope you appreciate my position. If instead of asking us to go to Banaras, you take with you the sacred sandals of our revered Guru and have the function done in their holy presence, I am sure all your objects will be fulfilled.

Tamale: I bow to your Holiness’ decision. I am sure that the devotees in the North will be struck with admiration and pleasure when they hear about your Holiness’ firm respect far more than they will be if your Holiness had conceded to our request.

போளி வடை சாப்பிட்ட ஸம்வாதம்

தண்டுலபுரம் பட்டாமணியக்காரர் சம்சாரம் அன்னபூரணியம்மாள் வீட்டில் குருவும் சீஷனும் திருப்தியாக புசித்துவிட்டு மீளுகையில் கீழே குனியமுடியாமல் சீஷனைப் பார்த்து, “அடே! பிரமானந்த சிஷ்யா! என் காலில் செருப்பு இருக்கிறதா பாரடா” என்றார். சிஷ்யனும் வயிறு நிரம்ப புசித்திருக்கிறபடியாலே குனிந்து பார்க்கச் சக்தியற்று ஆகாசத்தைப் பார்த்து, “சுவாமி, நட்சத்திர மண்டலம் வரை எங்கும் தேடிப்பார்த்தேன். காணப்படவில்லை” என்றான்.

சீ!சீ! பிருஷ்டா, தலை குனிந்து கீழே தேடடா” என்று குருவானவர் கோபித்துக்கொண்டு சொல்ல, “தங்களைப் பார்க்கிலும் குறைவாகச் சாப்பிட்ட முட்டாளென்று நினைத்தீரோ” என்று சீடன் ஜவாப்பு சொன்னான். இவர்கள் நம்மைப் பார்க்கிலும் போஜனப்ரியர்கள் யார் இருக்கப் போகிறார்கள் என்று நடந்து போகையில் வேறொரு சாப்பாட்டு ராமன், தெருத் திண்ணையில் படுத்துப் புரண்டு வயிற்றைத் தட்டிக்கொண்டு இப்படி அப்படி நெளிந்து அவஸ்தைப் பட்டுக்கொண்டி ருக்கையில் அவனது தாயார் வந்து அருகில் நின்று, “அப்பனே, இரண்டு ஓமம் தரட்டுமா?” என்று கேட்டாள். அதற்கவன் நகைத்துக் கொண்டு ஒரு ஓமத்துக்கு இடமிருந்தால் இன்னும் இரண்டு போளி சாப்பிட்டிருக்கமாட்டேனா? என்றான்.

இதைச் செவியுற்ற சீடனும் குருவும் இது ஏது நம்மைப் பார்க்கிலும் அகாதமாயிருக்கின்றது என்று தங்களிருப்பிடம் சேர்ந்தார்கள்.

பிராமணா போஜனப் பிரியா

ஒரு நாள் ஜலக்கரையில் உட்கார்ந்து ஜெபம் பண்ணிக்கொண்டிருந்த பிராமணனண்டை மற்றொரு பிராமணன் வந்து “ஐயா, பெரியவரே! இன்று என் ஆத்தில் திவசம், பிராமணார்த்தத்திற்கு வரவேண்டுமென்று கூப்பிட்டான்.

“பிராமணா போஜனப்பிரியா, நாரதா கலகப்பிரியா” என்றபடி முடாமுழுங்கிப் பிராமணன் வேட்டை கிடைத்ததென்று கனைத்து, கொஞ்சமும் வஞ்சமன்னியில் இடுப்பில் கட்டியிருந்த அரைஞாண் அறுபடும்படியாகச் சாப்பிட்டுவிட்டு அடுத்த வீட்டுத் திண்ணையில் படுத்திருக்கும் பொழுது அவ்வீட்டுக்குரிய ஸ்த்ரீ, “ ஏங்காணும் சாஸ்திரிகளே, இப்படி திண்ணையில் விழுந்து புரளுகிறீர்களே! இரண்டு மினறு ஜலம் குடிக்கிறதுதானே என்று கேட்டதற்கு, “ அம்மா!   இரண்டு மினறு ஜலம் சாப்பிட இடமிருந்தால், இன்னும் இரண்டு வடையாவது திணித்திருக்க மாட்டேனா?” என்று சாவதானமாகப் பதில் சொல்லிவிட்டு எழுந்திருந்து தன் வீட்டை நாடிச் சென்றான்.

5.பசுமை இயக்கம் பரவட்டும்!

 

உலகெங்கும் சுற்றுப்புறச்சூழலை மேம்படுத்தும் விதமாக பசுமை இயக்கம் பரவி வருகிறது. பச்சை நிறம் பாரம்பரியம் பாரம்பரியமாக வளத்துடனும், செழிப்புடனும் நல்லதே நடக்கும் என்ற நம்பிக்கையுடனும் அனைத்து நாகரிகங்களினாலும் போற்றப்பட்டு வருகிறது. ஆகவே பூமியைப் பசுமையாக வைக்க எண்ணும் நல்ல நோக்கத்திற்கு பசுமை  இயக்கம் என்று சூட்டப்பட்டுள்ள பெயர் பொருத்தமானதே!

இந்தப் பசுமை இயக்கத்தின் அங்கமாக புதிதாகக் கட்டப்படும் இல்லங்கள் மற்றும் நிறுவனங்கள் பசுமைக் கட்டிடங்களாக அமைக்கப்படுகின்றன. அதாவது சுற்றுப்புறச் சூழ்நிலைக்கு மாசு ஏற்படாவண்ணமும் தூய நீர் தூய காற்று ஆகியவற்றிற்கு பாதிப்பு ஏற்படாமலும் ஆற்றலைச் சேமிக்கும் விதத்திலும் இவை அமைக்கப்படுகின்றன. காற்று நீர், ஆற்றல் இவற்றை சிக்கனமாகப் பயன்படுத்துவதோடு இவற்றை அனாவசியமாக வீணாக்காமல் பாதுகாக்கும் நடைமுறைகளை பசுமைக் கட்டிடக் கலை கொண்டுள்ளது.

வானளாவ உயரும் கட்டிடங்கள் ஒரு புறம் இருக்க அருகில் திறந்தவெளியாக நிலப்பரப்பு அதிகம் உருவாக்கப்படுவதும் இதன் ஒரு அம்சம் தான்!

இப்படிப்பட்ட பசுமைப் புரட்சியில் அனைவரும் பங்கு பெறலாம்; தன் அளவு முடிந்தவரை இயற்கை ஆதாரங்களை வீணாக்காமல் பாதுகாக்கலாம்.

தேவையற்றபோதெல்லாம் விளக்குகளை அணைப்பது, நீரைச் சிக்கனமாகப் பயன்படுத்துவது, குழாயைத் திறந்து விட்டு வேலைகளைச் செய்யாமல் அளவோடு நீரைப் பயன்படுத்துவது,காம்பாக்ட் ப்ளோரஸண்ட் பல்புகளை வாங்கி வீட்டில் பொருத்துவது, நாம் அன்றாடம் வாங்கிப் படிக்கும் செய்தித் தாள்களை மறுசுழற்சிக்கு உரிய முறையில் அனுப்புவது உள்ளிட்ட ஏராளமான எளிய பழக்க வழக்கங்களை ஒவ்வொருவரும் மேற்கொண்டால் ஆற்றல் சேமிப்பு அதிகமாகும்; ஆதார வளங்கள் வீணாவது குறைவாகும்!

தகவல் புரட்சி ஏற்பட்டு கணினி மயமாகி வரும் இன்றைய சூழ்நிலையில் அடுத்த பெரும் புரட்சியாக பசுமை இயக்கப் புரட்சி ஏற்படப்போவதாக அறிவியல் அறிஞர்கள் கூறுகின்றனர். உலகைப் பசுமைத் தாயகமாகக் காப்பதற்கெனவே புதிய புதிய வேலை வாய்ப்புகள் உருவாகும் அவை சுமார் ஒன்றரைக் கோடி பேருக்கு உலகமெங்கும் வேலை வழங்கும் என்ற நல்ல செய்தியையும் அறிவிக்கின்றனர்.

இந்தப் பசுமைப் புரட்சியின் பெருமை வாய்ந்த ஒரு அங்கமாக நம்மில் ஒவ்வொருவரும் ஆவோமாக!

BRITISH PRIME MINISTER DAVID CAMERON EXCITED ABOUT MODI’S FRIDAY VISIT:

In his 15 minute Deepavali speech at No10 Downing Street today (10th November 2015), Mr Cameron mentioned that he was excited about Modi’s Friday visit; He mentioned it three times. He is really excited. When he said it there was a big round of applause from the invitees. In an exciting and emphatic tone, he said that there is going to be 60,000 people at Wembley on Friday, which drew another round of applause. By British standards 60,000 for a politician in a foreign country is a very big number. British politicians draw only a few thousands even at their annual party conferences.

I was one of the 100 plus invitees to Diwali Party at Prime Minister’s house today. He gave an excellent speech in 15 minutes. Three times he mentioned that he was excited about Mr Modi’s visit this Friday.

As soon as I shook hands with him and said I am from Hindu Forum of Britain, the umbrella body of Hindu organisations in Britain, he called the photographer and posed with us for a picture. Official photographer will release the picture in three days (the invitation I got says it is only or personal use!)

“You Hindus have contributed a lot; you have brought good values; Service is your contribution. You serve your family, you serve your community; you do service to the country. Cameron mentioned Ramayana twice in his speech, but with wrong accent:- Ramayaanaa!

Madhu Sastry , President of the Hindu temple organisation, recited Sanskrit mantras and welcomed David Cameron. Preeti Patel, Minister in the British Government, led Mr Cameron through the crowd, introducing all the prominent Gujaratis.

Cameron continued: “India is the largest democracy in the world. We are the most successful multi faith, multi ethnic, and multi religious democracy. Both of us are affected by Islamic State (ISIS) terrorism. India is a large investor in Britain. Britain has invested large amount in India. It is not just commercial relations. Together we can fight terrorism, together we can fight climatic change, and together we can fight poverty. Today the good news is that Burma has become a democracy. This is my sixth Deepavali with you Hindus. I am really excited this time because of Mr Modi’s visit this Friday.

We have to go into the origins of Diwali, meaning of Diwali; I know it stands for victory of good over evil; victory of light over darkness. Sorry I changed the time of Diwali this year to lunch time; this is to prevent my children

eating the Diwali sweets. (Immediately there was a big laughter).

(Today being a working day in Britain all the children are at school during day time)

“Thanks to all the Hindus, Sikhs and Jains attending the Diwali event here today. I know about the food served in the Sikh Gurudwaras 24 hours a day to every one whatever be the circumstances. It is a great service. I know the peace loving Jains. They celebrate Gandhi’ s birth day as a day of peace. You have contributed your values to this country.

Cameron added: I know how you celebrate Diwali. Leicester has the best Diwali celebrations. They had garlands spreading over half a mile; Birmingham had over fifty events for Diwali. In London many events have taken place. Thanks to the Swaminarayan temple for a beautiful decoration (They arranged Annakut with lot of sweets and Radha Krishna and Swaminarayan statues inside David Cameron’s house.

Racism, Discrimination in Britain

Cameron was honest about the racism and discrimination in Britain. We have Preeti (Patel) in our government representing you. But I wouldn’t say that all walks of life have such representation. I know that there is racism, there is discrimination. Slowly it will change.

Over 100 prominent citizens from the Hindu, Sikh and Jain communities were invited for the event. I attended it as an executive committee member of the Hindu Forum of Britain and Chairman of the Chaplaincy Board in Hindu Forum.

They served us only finger foods such as onion Bhaji, mini samosas, cakes, Indian sweets, Mutter paneer, Mango Lassi, and plenty of juice. But the girls were bringing the food again and again so that you can take as much you want. We were all standing and chatting till Cameron entered the room. Then nearly one hour was spent with the Prime Minister.

(Since we were not allowed to take any sort of equipment inside No 10 Downing Street, London, for security reasons, I have given you just a gist of the speech that I remembered.)

இன்று தீபாவளித் திருநாள்! பொங்கும் மங்களம் எங்கும் தங்குக!

உலகில் இந்துக்களின் தனிச் சிறப்பு கடவுளை ஒளிரூபத்தில் வழிபடுவதாகும்; இதன் முத்தாய்ப்புதான் தீபாவளியும் கார்த்திகையும்! தமிழர்கள் கார்த்திகை நாளன்று வீடெங்கும் தீபங்களை ஏற்றி வைப்பர். வடக்கில் வாழும் நம் சகோதரர்கள் தீபாவளித் திருநாளன்று இவ்வாறு அகல் விளக்கு ஏற்றி வைப்பர்.

இந்த ஒளி வழிபாடு உலகம் முழுதும் இந்துமதம் இருந்த காலத்தில், எல்லா தேசங்களிலும் இருந்தது. மோசஸ் ஒளிரூபத்தில் ஆண்டவனைக் கண்டதும், பிற மதத் தலைவர்கள் ஒளிரூபத்தில் தேவதைகள் வந்ததாகக் கூறுவதும் இதையேதான். இந்துமதம் மறந்துபோன நாடுகளில் இந்த ஒளி வழிபாடு இப்போது இல்லை. ஆனால் பாரதத்தில் இன்று வரை அது நீடிக்கிறது.

சங்க இலக்கியத்தில் கார்த்திகை தீபம் பற்றிய குறிப்புகள் உண்டு; ஆனால் தீபாவளி பற்றி நேரடிக் குறிப்புகள் இல்லாவிடினும் மனைவியைக் குடும்ப விளக்கு என்று பாடும் சங்க இலக்கியப் பாடல்கள், விளக்கின் முக்கியத்துவத்தைக் காட்டும்.

இது எப்போது துவங்கியது?

உலகிலேயே மிகப் பழைய சமய நூல் ரிக் வேதம்; அதில் காயத்ரீ மந்திரம் இருக்கிறது. அது கடவுளை ஒளி உருவத்தில் வழிபடும் மிகப் பழைய துதி! பல்லாயிரக் கணக்கான ஆண்டுகளுக்கு முன்னர், சிந்து, சரஸ்வதி, கங்கை நதிக்கரையில் ஒலித்த அந்த மந்திரம் இன்று வரை ஒலிக்கிறது. உலகில் வேறெங்கும் காணாத புதுமை இது. காயத்ரீ மந்திரத்தில் துவங்கிய ஒளி வழிபாடு பிருஹத் ஆரண்யக (பெருங் காட்டு) உபநிஷதத்திலும் தொடர்கிறது.

“அஸதோ மா சத் கமய

தமஸோ மா ஜோதிர் கமய

ம்ருத்யோர் மா அம்ருதம் கமய!”

உபநிஷதங்களிலேயே மிகவும் பழையது பிருஹதாரண்யக உபநிஷத்! அதில் “இருளிலிருந்து என்னை ஒளிக்கு அழைத்துச் செல்” — என்று வேண்டுகிறோம் (தமஸோ மா ஜோதிர் கமய).

ஆயிரம் தீபம்

பகவத் கீதையில் ஒளி வழிபாடு

அர்ஜுனனின் ஐயங்களை அகற்ற கிருஷ்ணன் விஸ்வரூபம் எடுத்தபோது அது ஆயிரம் சூரியன் ஒரே நேரத்தில் உதித்தது (கீதை 11-12) போலிருந்ததாம்! கீதையைப்படித்து அதில் ஊறிப்போன அணுகுண்டின் தந்தை ஓப்பன்ஹீமர் முதல் அணுகுண்டு சோதனையின் போது தோன்றிய ஒளியைப் பார்த்து அசந்து போய், இந்த (திவி ஸூர்ய ஸஹஸ்ரஸ்ய 11-12) ஸ்லோகத்தைச் சொன்னார்.

கண்ண பிரான் ஒளி ரூபத்தில் தோன்றியது மட்டுமின்றி பகவத் கீதையில் ஞானதீபம் (அறிவு ஒளி) என்ற உவமையைப் பல இடங்களில் கையாளுகிறான் (10-11; 4-3, 4-19)

ஆழ்வார்கள், நாயன்மார்கள்

பகவத் கீதையைத் தொடர்ந்து நாயன்மார்களும் ஆழ்வார்களும் ஞான விளக்கு பற்றிப் பாடுகின்றனர். விளக்கு, திரி உருவகத்தை அப்பர் பெருமான் தேவாரத்தில் பாடுகிறார். பூதத்தாழ்வார் திவ்யப் பிரபந்தத்தில் பாடுகிறார்.

ஞான தீபம்= ஞான விளக்கு ( பகவத் கீதை 10–11)

“பக்தர்களின் உள்ளத்தில் நிலைபெற்று என் அருளால் பிரகாசிக்கும் ஞான தீபத்தால் அஞ்ஞான இருளை நாசம் செய்கிறேன்:– இதற்கு அண்ணா (ஸ்ரீ ராமகிருஷ்ண மடம், மைலாப்பூர், சென்னை) எழுதிய உரையில் சில பாடல்களை மேற்கோள் காட்டுவது மிகவும் பொருத்தமாக இருக்கிறது:–

போதாந்தப் புண்ணியர்கள் போற்றி சய போற்றியெனும்
வேதாந்த வீட்டில் விளக்கே பராபரமே – (தாயுமானவர்)

அன்பே தகளியா ஆர்வமே நெய்யாக
இன்புருகு சிந்தை இடு திரியா – நன்புருகு
ஞானச் சுடர் விளக்கு ஏற்றினேன் நாரணற்கு
ஞானத் தமிழ் புரிந்த நான் — (பூதத்தாழ்வார்)

ஞான அக்னி = ஞானத் தீ ( கீதை 4-19 )
“எவனுடைய எல்லா கருமங்களும் ஆசையும், அதற்குக் காரணமான சங்கல்பமும் அறுபட்டு, ஞானத் தீயில் பொசுங்கிய வினைகளை உடைய அவனை பண்டிதன் என்று அறிவாளிகள் கூறுவர்”.

திருமூலர் பாடுகிறார்:

விளக்கினை ஏற்றி வெளியை அறிமின்
விளக்கின் முன்னே வேதனை மாறும்
விளக்கை விளக்கும் விளக்குடை யார்கள்
விளக்கில் விளங்கும் விளக்கவர் தாமே
