Now we will look at Arya and Asura in Tamil Literature which is 2000 year old.

Tamils are all praise for Aryas and condemn demons. Sangam period Tamils were followers of Vedic Dharma. Oldest book Tolkappiam and Sangam books Purananuru etc used Dharma Artha Kama in the same order (Aram, Porul, Inbam). Tamil saint Tituvalluvar named his book Dhama Artha Kama. It was called Muppaal because it was divided into three parts in the same order Dhama Artha Kama. Tiruvalluvar praised God in first ten couplets and called atheists as Ghosts, Stupid and Illiterate later.

Tamils never sing about Moksha (Veedu in Tamil) according to their ethical rule. Though commentators mentioned it in their commentaries on Tamil works, they never gave any reason for it. But all Tamil books dealt with this subject.

Now coming back to statistics let us look at ARYA in Tamil first. If I take the word Deva and Deiva/God, then I have to write a whole book. So I will stick to ARYA only.

In short the poets meant:-

People in the north,

Saints who recited Sanskrit mantras

Kings who ruled Northern parts.

Saints and seers living in the Himalayas

300 years after Sangam period, came the great Saivite saints who praised Lord Shiva as ‘Aryan’. They never used ARYA in negative sense or as a  contemptible word. On the contrary demons (in Tamil Avunar, Arakkar etc) were condemned.

Demons were referred to in 11 places.

Let us take a few examples:-

In Kurunthokai verse,  poet Maha padman (Perumpathumanaar) uses Arya for northern acrobatics performer who does walk on ropes for the rhythm of drum beats.

In one of the Akam verses (386), a wrestler has the prefix Arya, probably he was from the north.

In Narrinai verse an anonymous poet sings about Mullur battle where a chieftain by name Malayaman Thirumudikkari defeated the Aryas who attacked him. It is the only reference and we don’t have any other evidence for this btatle. It may be a group from the North. Because we have one Pandya king with the title Nedun Cheziyan who conquered Aryan army. They may be from the north. We may ignore these fights because there are more severe fights among Tamil groups in more verses, in fact hundreds of verses!

In one of the Akam verse (276), Kerala Brahmin poet Paranar gives an interesting simile- “like the female elephant trained by Arya helping to catch male elephants”. We have all Gaja/elephnant shastras, Asva/horse Shastras  in Sanskrit. So those who spoke Sanskrit language trained the elephants. Even in Turkey, one Kikkuli trained horses using Sanskrit commands in 1380 BCE. So no wonder Paranar sings about Aryan trained female elephants.

In Akam verse (336), Chozas defeating the Aryan army was used as a simile .

In Akam verse (396), Kerala brahmin poet Paranar again refers to a Chera king defeating Aryan army when he went to fly his bow and arrow flag on the Himalayas .

In Akam verse (398), another poet Immenkeeranar refers to Aryas of the golden Himalayas.

So all these references are neutral or without any racial connotation. In short any one from the north whether he is a king, or a wrestler or an acrobat ,  that person was called Arya.

Even the seers and saints at the foot hills of Himalayas were called Arya.

We will see more Aryas and Asuras in the next part.

தமிழ் என்னும் விந்தை!

நிரோட்டம் – 1

ச.நாகராஜன்

நிரோட்டம் என்பது ஒரு வகை சித்திர கவி அமைப்பாகும்.

உ, ஊ,ஒ,ஓ,ஔ,ப, ம, வ ஆகிய எழுத்துக்கள் வராமல் பாடப்படும் செய்யுள் நிரோட்டம் எனப்படும்.

இதை நிரோட்யம் என்றும் கூறுவர்.

நிர் என்றால் இன்மை என்று பொருள்.

ஒட்டியம் எனால் ஒட்ட சம்பந்தம் உடையது. ஒட்டம் என்றால் உதடு.

சுருக்கமாகச் சொல்லப் போனால் உதடு ஒட்டாமல் சொல்லக் கூடிய பாடல்கள் நிரோட்டப் பாடல்கள்.

இதற்கு உதாரணமாக வி.கோ.சூரியநாராயண சாஸ்திரியார் ‘சித்திர கவி விளக்கம்’ என்ற தனது நூலில் தரும் பாடல் இது:

சீலத்தான் ஞானத்தாற் றேற்றத்தாற் சென்றகன்ற

காலத்தா லாராத காதலான் – ஞாலத்தர்

இச்சிக்கச் சால சிறந்தடி யேற்கினிதாங்

கச்சிக்கச் சாலைக் கனி

இதன் பொருள்;

சீலத்தான் – ஒழுக்கத்தோடும்

ஞானத்தான் – ஞானத்தோடும்

தேற்றத்தான் – மனத்தெளிவாகிய சித்த சுத்தியோடும்

சென்று அகன்ற காலத்தான் – மிக நீண்ட காலத்தோடும்

ஆராத காதலான் – அடக்க முடியாத பக்தியோடும்

ஞாலத்தார் – இந்தப் பூவுலகில் உள்ளவர்கள்

இச்சிக்க – விரும்பி வணங்கவும்

சால சிறந்து – மனம் வாக்குகளுக்கு எட்டாமல் மிகவும் பெரிதாக விளங்கி

அடியேற்கு இனிதாம் – எளியேனாகிய எனக்குப் பேரானந்தம் அளிப்பதாகும்

கச்சி கச்சாலை கனி – காஞ்சீபுரத்தில் திருக்கச்சாலை என்ற இடத்தில் உள்ள கோவிலில் எழுந்தருளி இருக்கும் கனி போன்ற கடவுளாகிய சிவபெருமான்

(எனக்கு அருள் புரிவாராக!)

ஒழுக்க ஞான சித்த சுத்திகளோடு நீண்ட காலம் ஆரா அன்பு செய்த ஞாலத்தார்க்கு எட்டாது பெரிதும் சிறந்திருந்தும் அடியேனுக்கு எளிதாய் இன்பம் பயப்பது கச்சாலைக் கனி என்பது திரண்ட அர்த்தமாகும்.

கலாவது நாடகம் வி.கோ.சூரியநாராயண சாஸ்திரியால் இயற்றப்பட்ட ஒரு நாடகம்.

அதில் ஒரு பாடலை அவர் நிரோட்டப் பாடலாக அமைத்துள்ளார்.

அதையும் எடுத்துக்காட்டாக தனது நூலில் தருகிறார்:

செய்யா யினிய நலஞ் சேரரசர் சீராளா

கையா லெனைத்தழீ இக் காதலியே யென்றழைத்த

லையா தகையேய்ந் தழகார்ந்தா யென்றைக்கே

நையாநிற் கின்றே னனி

நலம் – அழகு, நன்மை

சீராளன் – சிறப்பினை ஆள்பவன்

தழீஇ – தழுவி

தகை – பெருந்தன்மை

ஏய்ந்து – பொருந்தி

அழகு ஆர்ந்தாய் – அழகு நிறைந்தவனே

நனி – பெரிதும்

அழைத்தல் என்றைக்கு, நனி நையா நிற்கின்றேன் என்று கூட்டிப் பொருள் காணல் வேண்டும்.

இதற்கான சூத்திரம் :

“உ, ஊ, ஒ, ஓ, ஔ, ப, ம, வ, விவற்றியைபு,

சேரா நிரோட்டத் திறத்து’

மாறனலங்காரம் நிரோட்டியம் என்று குறிப்பிட்டுத் தரும் விளக்கம் : இதழ்குவிந்தியையாதியல்வது நிரோட்டியம்.

அதரமுமதரமும் குவியாது கூடாது நடப்பது நிரோட்டியம் என்றவாறு.

எடுத்துக்காட்டாக மாறனலங்காரம் தரும் செய்யுள்:-

நாதனரங்கநகர்நாராயணனேறைசே

சீதநளினத்தினிற்சிறந்த – காதற்

கனிநானிலக்கிழத்திகட்கினியகாந்தித்

தனிநாயகன்றாள் சரண்

இதில்,

நறைசேர் சீத நளினத்தினிற்சிறந்த காதற் கனி என்பது திருமகளைக் குறிக்கும்.

நானிலக் கிழத்தி என்பது பூமி தேவியைக் குறிக்கும்

கட்கினிய காந்தி என்பதன் பொருள் கண்ணுக்கு விருப்பத்தைத் தரும் அழகு என்பதாகும்.

துறை – கடவுள் வணக்கம்.

Tamil Veda Tirukkural’s original name was Muppaal, that is Three Subjects. The three subjects are Dharma Artha and Kama found in very old Sanskrit books. These Dharma, Artha, Kama are found in ancient Sangam book Purananuru and Tolkappiam. That is the reason for the greatest of the Tamil poets Tiru valluvar naming his book Three subjects or Three Divisions, I.e. Dharmaarthakaama.

Christian evangelists were already critical of Gopis and Lord Krishna. The British library in London has the old Tamil evangelical books. They criticised Lord Krishna and his association with the Gopis in their propaganda against Hinduism. When they came to know Tiruvalluvar’s book Tirukkural, that is Muppaal, has the last chapter on Sex/Kaama, they were scared to open those pages. They thought if they tell the world what Tiruvalluvar has written there, the whole world will think that Tiruvalluvar was a sex maniac. They did not know that Hindu religion is the only religion in the world that considers sex is also sacred. Their 40 Samskaras, that is Forty Rituals from birth to death, have enough proof for it. Rigveda, the oldest book in the world, has lot of similes where women hugging males, wife hugging husbands; they are used scores of times. It is very rare to find such similes even in Parsi’s Gathas. Even Arjuna in Bhagavad Gita use lover- lady love similes (BG.11-44)

Read what Dr R P Sethu Pillai wrote in 1943-44 in the Oriental Journal which was published in book forms by the university in 1953 and 1974 under the title ‘Words and their Significance’

“The early missionaries who set themselves the task of translating the Kural into European languages were evidently shocked at the title Kaamattup pal, (chapter on Sex).

Kamam is cherished as one of the four objectives of life and the Prince of moralists Tiruvalluvar did not disdain to use the term Kamattup pal as the caption of the last canto of his classical work.

The God of Love in Hindu mythology is known as Kaman and as he awakens love in human hearts he is styled Kaamavel” .

Regarding Kaamattuppaal Rev Drew said that “it could not be translated into any European language without exposing its translator to infamy. The confessions of Dr G U Pope may be considered in this connection.

“This prejudice, says Dr Pope, kept me from reading the third part of the Kural for some years; but the idea occurred to me very forcibly that he who wrote,

‘Spotless thou be in mind! This only merits virtue’s name

All, else mere pomp and idle sound, no real worth can claim’

could not have covered himself with the spotted infamy of singing a song of lust. Thus I ventured at length to read and study it, when I was able fairly to appreciate its spirit; and as the result, I translate it believing that I shall be regarded as having done service in doing so”.

Hope these people didn’t visit Khajuraho Temples and read Kamasutra of Saint Vatsyayana.

R T Griffith also refused to translate several hymns of the Rig Veda. Others translated them into Latin. So much scare!

தற்காலத்தில் ஒரு பெண்ணை அறிமுகப்படுத்தும் போது அவள் ஒரு சிறுக்கி என்று சொன்னால், அவளுடைய காலில் அணிந்த பொருள் நம் முகத்திலோ தலையிலோ விழும். ஏனெனில் இப்போது அது ஒரு கெட்ட வார்த்தை (Rude word). ஆனால் 300, 400 ஆண்டுகளுக்கு முன்னால் கமலா ஒரு சிறுக்கி, விமலா ஒரு சிறுக்கி என்று சிறு பெண்களைப்பற்றி நாம் பேசலாம்.

ஒரு மொழியில் எழுத்துக்களும் பொருளும் எப்படி காலப்போக்கில் மாறும் என்பதற்கு தமிழ் மொழியிலேயே உதாரணங்களைக் காட்டினேன். சங்க காலத்தில் பாண்டில் என்றதை சீவக சிந்தாமணி எழுதிய திருத்தக்க தேவர் பண்டி என்று எழுதினார். இன்று நாம் குதிரை வண்டி, மாட்டு வண்டி என்று சொல்லும் பொது ப= வ ஆக மாறிவிட்டிருக்கிறது .

இது தெரிந்தும் தெரியாமல் போல நடித்த கால்டு வெல்களும் , பர்ரோக்களும், எமனோக்களும் அண்டப்புளுகு , ஆகாசப்புளுகுகளை அள்ளி வீசி இருக்கின்றனர். தமிழ் மொழியில் மட்டுமின்றி  மாற்றங்கள் அவஸ்தன் , கிரேக்க மொழியிலும் இருப்பதால் அவர்களுடை திராவிட மொழிக் குடும்பம் என்பதெல்லாம் அயோக்கிய வாசகம் என்பதும் தெளிவுபடும்.

இது பற்றி சென்னை பல்கலைக்கழக தமிழ் அறிஞர் டாக்டர் ஆர்.பி சேதுப்பிள்ளை 1943-44ல் ஆங்கிலத்தில் எழுதியதைக் காண்போம் :-

பழந் தமிழில் ஒரு பையனை சிறுவன், சிறுக்கன் என்றும் ஒரு சிறு பெண்ணை சிறுவி , சிறுக்கி என்றும் அழைத்தனர். இன்று நாம் சிறுவன் , சிறுமி என்றே பயன்படுத்துகிறோம்.

சிறுக்கி என்பதற்கு கெட்ட பொருள் வந்து விட்டது . அதைப் பயன்படுத்த முடியாது.

இப்போது  நாம் பயன்படுத்தும் சிறுமி நல்ல தமிழ் இல்லை. அது கொடுந் தமிழ் பேசும் குட நாட்டிலிருந்து வந்தது என்று சிலப்பதிகாரத்துக்கு உரை எழுதிய அடியார்க்கு நல்லார் எழுதுகிறார்.

ஆக சிறுக்கி, சிறுவி என்ற நல்ல தமிழ்ச் சொற்கள் தோற்றுப் போய் கொடுந் தமிழ் வெற்றி பெற்றுவிட்டது என்றும் சேதுப்பிள்ளை விமர்சிக்கிறார்.

எனது கருத்து

நல்ல சொற்கள் கெட்ட அர்த்தம் பெறும் என்பதற்கு மணம் (smell, fragrance) என்ற சொல்லே போதும். இதற்கு தமிழில் உள்ள சொல் நாற்றம். ஆனால் இன்று நாற்றம் அடிக்கிறது என்றால் துர் நாற்றம் என்றே பொருள்.

இதை விட வேடிக்கையான விஷயம் இலங்கைத் தமிழ் பாஷையில்  மணக்கிறது என்றால் துர் நாற்றம் வீசுகிறது என்று பொருள். தமிழ் நாட்டுத் தமிழர்கள் ஹோட்டலுக்குள்ளோ, சமையல் அறையிலோ நுழைந்து நல்ல மணம் வீசுகிறது என்றால் அதன் பொருள் நறு மணம் ; நல்ல வாசனை!!

ஒரு இலங்ககைத் தமிழ் பெண்மணிக்கு, ஆஸ்பத்திரியில் மொழி பெயர்க்கச் சென்றேன். குழந்தைக்கு என்ன என்ன பிரச்சினைகள் என்று டாக்டர் கேட்டார். எல்லா தாய்மார்களும் சொல்லும் வழக்கமான பல்லவி வந்தது– நல்லா சாப்பிட மாட்டேங்கறது ; வேறு என்ன? டாக்டர் கேட்டார். சிறுநீர்/ மூத்திரம் போனால் மணக்குது என்றார் அப்பெண்மணி.

மதுரையில் செந்தமிழ் பேசிய எனக்கு திகைப்பு; மொழி பெயர்ப்பதற்கு முன்னால் நீங்கள் ஸ்மெல் smell அடிக்கிறது என்கிறீர்களா? என்றேன் அப்பெண்ணும் ஆமாம் ஒரே ‘ஸ்மெல்’ என்றார் .

நான் பிரயோகித்த ஸ்மெல் smell என்பதும் தவறான பிரயோகம். ஸ்மெல் என்றால் கெட்ட ஸ்மெல் என்று ஆங்கிலத்தில் அர்த்தம் இல்லை. அது நல்ல ஸ்மெல் அல்லது கெட்ட ஸ்மெல் ஆக இருக்கலாம். ஆக அது இந்தியன் இங்கிலீஷ்

அல்லது எங்கள் மதுரைத் தமிழ் ஆசிரியர் வி ஜி சீனிவாசன் சொல்லுவது போல TANGLISH டாங்கிலீஸ் (டமில் +இங்கிலீஷ்)

நடு சென்டர் , கேட் வாசல் , அசால்ட்டா நின்றான் etc

தமிழ் என்னும் விந்தை!

பிரிந்தெதிர் செய்யுள்

சித்திர கவியில் ஒரு சுவையான வகை பிரிந்தெதிர் செய்யுள்.

இதைப் பற்றிய மாறன் அலங்காரம் தரும் சூத்திரம் இது:

பிரிந்தெதிர்வனவே பிரிந்தெதிர் செய்யுள்

அதாவது ஒரு செய்யுள் முடிந்து விட்ட நிலையில் அதன் கடைசி எழுத்தை முதலாகக் கொண்டு தலைகீழாக வந்தால் (Reverse order) இன்னொரு செய்யுள் அமையும்.

அது தான் பிரிந்தெதிர் செய்யுள்.

எடுத்துக்காட்டாகா மாறன் அலங்காரம் தரும் செய்யுள் இது:

தாரமாகமே

வாரமாகமா

ணாரணாககா

இந்தச் செய்யுளில் நான்காம் அடியில் கடைசெ எழுத்து ‘கா’

இந்த கா என்ற எழுத்தை முதலாகக் கொண்டு அப்படியே தலைகீழாகச் செய்யுளைப் பார்ப்போம்.

இப்படி ஒரு செய்யுளே பிரிந்து இன்னொரு செய்யுளாக மாறுவது பிரிந்தெதிர் செய்யுள் ஆகும்.

இப்பாடலின் பொருள் :

நீர நாக – நல் குணத்தவனே! அனந்த சயனத்தவனே!

மா தாரமாக – திருமகளைப் பாரியாக

மேவாரமாக – பொருந்துமாரங்கிடக்கும் மார்பனே!

மாணாரணாக – பெருமையை உடைய வேத சொரூபனே!

கா – என்னைக் காப்பாயாக!

பாடலைத் திருப்பிப் போடும் போது வரும் செய்யுளின் பொருள்:

மாகமாரவாம் – துறக்கத்துள்ளார் பெருக விரும்பும்

நார  – நற்குணத்தை உடையவனே

மேகமாக – மேகத்தைப் போன்ற திருமேனியை உடையவனே!

மா ரதா – எதிரிகளை வெல்லும் முழு வீரனே!

நாரணா – நாராயணன் என்னும் திரு நாமத்தை உடையவனே!

நீ கண் – நினது சொரூப ரூப குண விபூதிகளை மயக்கமற அறிவதற்கு நீயே எமக்கு ஞானக் கண் ஆனதால்

கா – எம்மைக் காப்பாற்றுவாயாக!

இந்த இரு பாடல்களும் வஞ்சித் துறை என்னு வகைப் பாடல்களாகும்.

துறை : கடவுள் வாழ்த்து

அநுலோமம் , பிரதிலோமம் என்று இதனை வடமொழியில் வழங்குவர்.

இது போன்ற பாடல்கள் ஏராளம் தமிழில் உண்டு.

The word Arya with its declensional forms occurs 36 times in the Rigveda..

13 times with Dasa,

9 times with Dasyu,

2 times with Dasyu and Dasah

Commentator Sayana takes Aryan to mean those ‘who perform sacrifices’ and ‘wise ones’.

Commentator Skandaswamin takes Dasyu to mean ‘Anaarya, opposite to Arya’.

In one place there is a reference to Arya Varna.

Sayana interprets this as noblest order. Arya vrata is interpreted as ‘kalyani karmani’ by Sayana.

The survey of 36 places where Arya was used gives the following meanings:-

Swami, Vidvan, Pandita, Sadhu, Yajamana, Karmakrt, Manusya, Tribhuvanesvara, Sreshta, Bhadra, Pujya, Trivarnika, Uttara Varna etc.

The word Dasyu has opposite meanings.

Griffith in the footnote to RV 1-51-8 writes the “Aryas are the people who speak the language of the Vedas and Dasyus are the original and hostile people of India”.

Later he says “Aryas were the true and loyal people, faithful to India and the gods and the Dasyus were the wicked and godless people”. Almost all the western scholars have the same view and this is because they all thought that Aryans came to India from Central Asia and they conquered the Dasa or Dasyus.

But no Tamil or Sanskrit book said this. On the contrary they portrayed Vedic Hindus as the sons of the soil. Arya has no ethnic connotation.

In classical literature Arya meant a good person. It can be compared with Greek Aristos.

We see fighting among Aryas like the Tamils. Chera,Choza and Pandyas were great Hindus and performed big Yagas like Asvamedha and Rajasuya and spoke the same Tamil language. But they fought with one another continuously for 1500 years. They killed their opponents and set fire to the enemy Tamil towns. They destroyed Tamil towns completely and ploughed the destroyed city lands with donkeys and sowed sesame seeds and horse gram. Great Kalinga king Kharavela also used asses to plough enemy lands. Though Tamils destroyed their own compatriots’ foreign scoundrels did not attribute any racial issues.

In Rigveda also we see Aryas fighting among themselves, Indra killing Brahmanas and doing atonement for Brahmahaththi.

In RV. 4-30-18 Indra is said to have killed two Arya kings on the bank of river Sarayu. According to Sayana, Arya kings Arna and Chitra Ratha were killed by Indra. The reason for killing is disrespect shown to Indra. Tamils also did the same. When two North Indian chieftains Kanaka Vijayan ridiculed Tamil kings, Chera king Senguttuvan arrested them and asked them to carry the Himalayan rocks on their heads. Karikalan, the great cholza emperor, who performed Yaga by building eagle shaped Yaga kunda, killed seven Tami l kings and chieftains and wore their seven garlands. 2000 year old Tamil Sangam literature even said, Tamils cut the hair of enemy Tamil women and made ropes out of them to pull their victorious cars. They did not bother insulting their own women. If the Max Muller and Marxist  gangs find such remarks in the Vedas they attributed racist motives. Alexander’s invasion have more horrific stories. He took native women for himself in all the places he conquered.

 Sangam Tamil literature used the word ‘river of blood’ in its own Tamil territories. When river Charmanvathi’s natural reddish colour was used as a hyperbole to say the king did sacrifice with so many animals to make it red, Marxist rascals interpreted it as massacre of animals. They deliberately took it literally. Tamil Purananuru verse says brahmins did Yagas where milk and ghee were flowing like rivers.

Today we see such animal massacres only in Muslim Eid al Adha festival. Thousands of camels are massacred.

Actually river Charmanvathi is a Tamil word meaning Sem Mann = red earth or red soil.

Rig Vedic Sudasa who has Dasa suffix was a great king who fought against ten Aryan kings with the support of great Vedic rishis.

Mahi Dasa was the great author of Aitareya Brahmana. Even in Mahabharata we see Rakshas, Naga wives of Pandavas or their descendants.

Going back to Rigveda again,

We read about Indra and Agni subduing Arya and Dasa enemies in in RV 6-6-6.

RV 6-33-3 says Indra killed both Arya and Dasa enemies.

RV 7-83-1 also speaks of Varuna killing Dasas and Aryas and protecting Sudas.

RV 10-69-6 also said this.

Like Choza,Chera,Pandya of Tamils, Aryas also had five groups, seven groups, Dasagvas,and  Navagvas meaning Nine peoples, Ten peoples etc.

Like we have anti god Dravidian political parties today in Tamil Nadu, there was a rowdy group in Vedic times. If we read religious scriptures of other religions, we see such Anti- God groups. Foreign scoundrels never introduced racial motives there. In Greece every city fought with another city. They had their own coins. It was the condition 2500 years ago. So it is possible that Vedic society also had such divisions.

Latest analysis of Rigveda shows that it covers at least 500 years from Iran to Assam in India. We have Indra, Agni, Varuna, Mitra and Nasatya as witnesses in a treaty in Turkey in 1400 BCE.

In short Dasas were neutral. Dasyus were anti Hindu gangs, like modern anti Hindu political parties. Aryas were supporters of Vedic rituals. When someone is described as snub nosed, black skinned we don’t need to take them literally. Same Vedic literature described Aryas as bulls, lions and tigers. It means only ferocious , heroic and courageous. Valmiki also praised Rama as tigerish, Narasardula, tiger among men. We never interpreted it as tiger Rama. Foreign scoundrels came with a bad motive and stuck to it. That is why Ambedkar, Swami Vivekananda, Mahatma Gandhi, Kanchi Paramacharya and other great people rejected the views of Max Muller gangs and Marxist gangs.

It is our duty to obey the command of Swami Vivekananda and throw all the mud from the bottom of Indian Ocean on those foreign mischief mongers.

ராமாயண ராமன் உலகப் புகழ் பெற்றதற்கு காரணம் அவருடைய உத்தம குணங்களே. சொத்துத் தகராறு வந்துவிட்டால் அப்பனும் மகனுமே குத்து, கொலை, கோர்ட், கேஸ் என்று இறங்குவதை உலகம் முழுதும் காண்கிறோம். ஆனால் ராம பிரானோ “காட்டுக்குப் போ, உனக்கு பதவி கிடையாது” என்று சின்னம்மா சொன்னபோது அன்றலர்ந்த செந்தாமரை முகத்துடன் அதை  ஏற்றான் ; இது உன் அப்பா கட்டளை என்று சின்னம்மா கைகேயி சொன்னபோது “தாயே! அப்பா என்ன? நீங்கள் சொன்னாலே நான் அதைச் செய்வேனே ” என்கிறான்.

இராவணன், ஆயுதங்களை இழந்து அவமானப்பட்டு நின்ற போது , நிராயுதபாணிகளைக் கொல்வது க்ஷத்ரிய தர்மம் அன்று, “இன்று போய் நாளை வா” என்று ‘வாய்தா’ கொடுக்கிறார்.

இப்படி எங்கெங்கெல்லாம் நம்மைப் போன்ற மனிதர்கள் தடம் புரளுவோமோ அங்கெங்கெல்லாம் ராமன் என்னும் ரயில் சீராக தண்டவாளத்தில் ஓடுவதை வால்மீகியும் கம் பனும் நமக்கு காட்டியுள்ளனர்.

இவ்வளவு சிறப்பு மிக்க உதாரண புருஷனை ‘சாப்பாட்டு ராமன் ‘, ‘தண்டச் சோத்து தடி ராமன்’ என்ற சொற்றொடர்களில் சேர்த்து ஏன் அவமானப்படுத்துகிறோம் என்று வியந்தேன். பகவத் கீதை சொற்களின் தமிழ் இன்டெக்ஸ் தயாரித்தபோதுதான் இதன் உண்மைப் பொருள் விளங்கியது !

இது ‘ரம்’ என்ற சம்ஸ்க்ருத தாது / வேர்ச் சொல்லில் பிறந்த சொல். நாம் ராமா, ரமா , ரம்யா என்ற பெயர்களை ஆண் , பெண் பெயர்களுடன் இந்தியா முழுதும் காண்கிறோம் . மகிழ்ச்சி உண்டாக்குபவர் அல்லது மகிழ்ச்சியுடன் இருப்பவர் என்று இதற்குப் பொருள். இத்தோடு  சாப்பாடு என்ற சொல்லைச் சேர்த்தால் சாப்பிடுவதில் ஆனந்தம் அடைபவர் என்று பொருள். அதனால்தான்  அதிகம் சாப்பிடுவோரை சாப்பாட்டுராமன் என்று கிண்டல் செய்கிறோம். அப்படிச் சாப்பிட்டுவிட்டு வேலைக்கும் போகாதவர்களை தண்டச் சோற்று தடிராமன் என்றும் ஏசுகிறோம்.

கிருஷ்ண பாரமாத்வே பகவத் கீதையில் இந்த ராம சொல்லை வேறு  பொருளில் பயன்படுத்தியபோதுதான் எனக்கு சாப்பாட்டு ராமன் விஷயம் புரிந்தது. கிருஷ்ணனே ராமனைப் புகழும் (10-31) ஸ்லோகமும் உள்ளது.அங்கு மக்களை எல்லாம் ஆனந்தத்தில் மூழ்கடிக்கும் ராமன் ; அந்தர ராம, இந்திரிய ராம  என்னும் சொற்களில் அந்த இடத்தில் / விஷயத்தில் களிப்படைவோன், ஆனந்தம் அடைவோம் என்னும் பொருள்.
