MY JOURNALISM STUDENTS AT MADURAI UNIVERSITY IN 1980S
I had a teacher by name V G Srinivasan in Madurai Sethupathi High School where I studied up to school final (SSLC). His life mission was to establish Bharatiyar statue in the school, where the poet worked for over six months. VGS life breadth was Bharati. He can’t speak without quoting Bharati at anytime. Bharati (1882-1921) was the greatest Tamil poet of modern era. VGS was successful in erecting the statue in the school. He used to tell us that if we worship Bharati we can get good marks in the exams. We used to laugh at that time. Now we realise what he meant by that ; one would get self confidence and positive thoughts when one reads Bharati poems. Bharati ould inspire any one. After reading the Rig Veda and Atharvana Veda, I came to know that all the positive things said in the Vedas are used by Bharati. So VGS was right when he made the statement.
He taught one or two extra things in the class. He used to tell us that if you see a fake coin or outdated coin (not valid tender anymore) never ever recirculate it. If it is fake, cut it into two so that no one could use it again. As a school boy I also had the thrill of passing fake coins to some gullible person. Our usual victims were road side old aged vendors. In the semi dark condition they would take the invaild tender. Then we would have had the greatest satisfaction of achieving something great! Now I realise how foolish we were at the young age. By hook or crook we want to do something exciting. But after listening to my teacher VGS, I always dispose off the invalid tender or fake currencies so that they wouldn’t be reused.
Another thing I followed is to deposit the money that is found on the roads and other places, in the temple money box. What is not yours should go to the general public. VGS was not rich. But yet he used to send First Day Covers to my eldest brother whenever new stamps were released by the government. He gave us the stamps released by Netaji Subash Chandra Bose before his death. He used to bring all the visiting Tamil scholars to my house to introduce them to my father. Because of him I have been collecting stamps for over 60 years! Till Chinese Virus outbreak two years ago, there used to be two big stamp exhibitions in Febraury and September in London (Stampex). I never missed them for 30 years. I would always return with an empty vallet. Stamps are so tempting!
In Tamil you cant write a sentence without dotted consonants. When two words belonging to the same ‘varga’/class comes, we use the dotted letter ( and in the middle of certain words also they occur). Most of us will put only a ‘tiny viny’ dot. VGS used to tell us why are you so miserly? Draw a big round (Pujya) in stead of a tiny dot. I followed his advise from that day. Very small thing indeed! But when you follow it your hand writing looks more beautiful. He always throws upon you positive ideas/thoughts. Probably he got them from the great poet Bharatiyar. xxx
My failed Interviews! I have always worked in the filed of Tamil. For 43 yearsI I got jobs only related to Tamil language. Whenever I applied for jobs where Tamil language skill is required I was selected to that job just like that. Whenever I applied for other jobs, I failed. But there are some tips which may be useful to you. A great Siddha and Tamil saint Tirumular said ‘I came into this world by the grace of God, just to produce something good in Tamil’. Those words came into my mind whenever i got a job in the field of Tamil ! xxx Failure 1 I applied for some Administrative Officer job in London. In the interview they asked me how I would run the department with limited money available. I went on the topic for 15 to 20 minutes. They gave me some prompts and yet I couldn’t give them a satisfactory answer and so i didnt get the job.
In Western countries, you can always ask for feedbacks when you did not succeed in the interview. I asked for the feed back. They told me we expected the word BUDGET from you. But you told us how you would spend the money scrupulously. But you never mentioned the word budget or balancing the account sheet etc.
It is very true. If I had the experience of running a department with limited funding, then the budget, deficit, surplus would have figured in my answers. So I was a weak candidate. I tried to bite off more than what I could chew. xxx Failure 2 I applied for another PRO post in one Arts orgaisation. When i recounted my experience, i told the panel, I was a BBC broadaster in Bush House in London. My next floor colleague was a Hindi broadcaster whose wife was a prominet person in that field. When they asked me whether i know that lady , I told them yes I know SOMEBODY by name Mrs xyz . The panelists winked at each other to show their displeasure. Probably that lady was also in the panel!!! I should have told them politely, Yes I have heard about that eminent person. I know her name Mrs XYZ, but I have not come across her. I would use every oportunity to meet her.
So this is a lesson. Dont show disrespect to one who is respected by the people in the field. Needless to say I didnt get the job. xxx Failure No.3 I atteded an interview for a job as Spy in the most famous MI 6 (Military Intelligence 6 for spying foreigners and MI 5 for spying locals inside Britain). They asked me to deposit even my mobile phone, bags etc at the reception. But I was allowed to take my office bag with all the necessary passport and other documents required for the post. They asked whether three geneartions of our family were British. I said No. They indicated that i would stand as No.2 in the Q. Then they asked me, occasionallyi would be asked to listen to telephone conversations of XYZ people. When I told them I may not understand their accent, they told me they would train me on the job. I showed my disagreement. Then they allowed me to ask questions. ‘You told me occasionally I would be asked to give evidence in the court against the spies. What is the gurantee you give me for peaceful living?’ I asked. They told me that they wouldnt give me life time guarantee . Then I showed my disagreement saying ‘Oh No, No’ I didnt get through to the second level of interview! When i came out and put my hand in the bag to take a pen I saw a small scissor, razor blade, glue stick etc! I was laughing at my self. After depositing all security risky things at the counter, and passing through the electronic gate they still couldnt find my blade and scissor!! These things I always keep in my office bag to give tailored lessons to my Tamil sudents at SOAS, University of London. I have to quickly make new lessons by taking some cuttings from here and there and pasting them and photocopyng them!
xxx Swamiji Krishna’s advise Swamiji Krishna ,our Guru, used to say If you go to someone’s house, you eat something you dont like, dont say ‘it is not good or i dont like it’. Say ‘butter milk is very tasty! I liked it very much’.
One should not take it literally. One must read between the lines. The message is ‘Dont say anything negative; say something positive’. WHY I DONT EAT IN PUBLIC EVENTS?
I stopped eating in public functions in London for two reasons. I ran four organisations at the same time for 18 years and severd dinner right on at 8-30 pm to the satisfaction of everyone or at least most of them. I always chose four or five items and give them even pack lunch with the left over food. Once I attended an event and a teenager was adamant to take the serving task. His father warned him not to do it because he was not expeirenced. My turn to get the food came and this teenager asked me ‘Do you want this?’ and he head two laddles. Ponited out to another item, ‘do you want this?’ I said ‘of course I want both the items’. Her served half laddle of each. I wanted to slap him or throw the food on his face. But because it was run by a committe full of my friends, I controlled my anger.
And another abomiable thing was in most of their functions everybody got all the 15 times in two plates and threw most of them into dust bins. These two things made to make a vow not to eat in such places and unnecessarily curse them. They charged 20 pounds per head. So people thought that getting full plate and throwing them into dusbin is just. Till this date I eat only in AGMs where only twenty people only attend. You serve your self like buffet. MY MOTHER’S LESSON I also tried to serve food to the visiting relatives at my home. I was asking them, ‘Is it enough?’ after serving some dishes. My mother saw this and she called me into kitchen and told me, ‘Never ask any guest, Is it enough?’ Ask them, ‘Sir, Madam, Can I serve you more? It is very tasty; you would love to have it second time! You must make them eat more. So people who serve food also need proper training at home or in public.

பாராதியாருக்கு வானசாஸ்திரத்தில் அதிகமான ஈடுபாடு உண்டு. நிறைய பாடல்களில் இதைக் காண முடிகிறது. 100 அல்லது 125 ஆண்டுகளுக்கு முன்னர் சிரியஸ் நக்ஷத்திரம் SIRIUS STAR பற்றி செய்தி வெளியானவுடன் அது பற்றி கவிதை எழுதியது பலருக்கும் அதிகம் தெரியாது. தூமகேது என்ற தலைப்பில் ஹாலியின் வால் நட்சத்திரம் பற்றி அவர் எழுதிய கவிதை பற்றி முன்னரே (YEAR 2013) எழுதினேன். பாரதியார் பாடலில் சிரியஸ் பற்றி கூறும் தகவலில் சிறிது மாற்றம் உண்டு. அவர் காலத்தில் பத்திரிகைகளில் வந்த செய்தியை வைத்து அவர் எழுதியது சரியே . சிரியஸ் நட்சத்திரம் பற்றி உலக மக்களுக்கு முதல் முதல் முதலில் சொன்னவர்கள் வேத கால ரிஷிகள்தான். அதர்வண வேதத்தில் இரண்டு பாடல்கள் இருக்கின்றன. அதில் ஒரு பாடலில் பிளாக் ஹோல் BLACK HOLES எனப்படும் கருந்துளைகள் பற்றிய விஷயமும் உளது . அது வெள்ளைக்காரர்களுக்கு என்னெவென்று 100 ஆண்டுகளுக்கு முன் தெரியாததால் ‘அடையாளம் காண முடியாத ஒரு நட்சத்திரம்’ என்று அடிக்குறிப்பு எழுதிவிட்டார் RALPH TH GRIFFITH கிரிப்பித்.. முதலில் சிரியஸ் நட்சத்திரம் பற்றிய அதிசயச் செய்திகளைக் காண்போம்.
இது 8-5 ஒளி ஆண்டுகள் LIGHT YEARS தொலைவில் உள்ளது (பாரதியார் இதை 3 ஒளி ஆண்டு என்று எழுதியுள்ளார்). ஒளி என்பது ஒரு வினாடிக்கு 1,86,000 மைல் வேகத்தில் செல்லும். பிரபஞ்சத்தில் இதைவிட வேகமான பொருள் இல்லை என்பது விஞ்ஞானிகளின் கூற்று. (நான் மனோ வேகம் அதைவிட விரைவானது என்று எழுதியுள்ளேன்) ; சிரியஸ் விண்மீன்தான் வானத்தில் மிகவும் பிரகாசமான நட்சத்திரம். யாரும் இதைப் பார்க்காமல் இருக்க முடியாது.
வானத்தில் அதிகமாக ஒளிவிடும் கிரகம் வீனஸ் VENUS எனப்படும் வெள்ளி. இதைக் காலையிலும், வருடத்தில் சில மாதங்களுக்கு மாலையிலும் தொடுவவா னத்தில் காணலாம். இது மினுமினுக்காது NOT TWINKLING . இதைவிடப் பிரகாசமானது சிரியஸ் . இது மினுமினுக்கும் TWINKLING. இதுதான் நட்சத்திரத்துக்கும் கிரகத்துக்கும் உள்ள வேறுபாடு!
இன்று நாம் சிரியஸைப் பார்த்தோமானால் அதன் பழைய ஒளியை, அதாவது எட்டரை ஆண்டுகளுக்கு முன்னர் புறப்பட்ட ஒளியைத்தான் காண்கிறோம். இன்று அது அழிந்தால்கூட நமக்கு எட்டரை ஆண்டுகளுக்கு ஒளி தெரியும்.
பாரதியார் காலத்தில் இதை பூமிக்கு அண்மையில் உள்ள நட்சத்திரம் என்ற கருத்து இருந்தது. இன்று ஆல்பா செண்டாரை , பீட்டா செண்டாரை என்பதே அருகிலுள்ள நட்சத்திரக் கூட்டம்.
சிரியஸ் பற்றிய ஒரு அதிசயமான விஷயம் அது இரட்டை நக்ஷத்திரம் BINARY STAR SYSTEM. சிரியஸ் ஏ என்னும் நக்ஷத்திரமும் சிரியஸ் பி என்னும் என்னும் நக்ஷத்திரமும் ஒன்றை ஒன்று வலம் வருகின்றன. இதற்கு சுமார் 50 ஆண்டுகள் ஆகும். இதை வேதங்கள் இரண்டு நாய்கள் TWO DOGS என்று குறிப்பிடுவதில் இருந்து அவர்களுக்கு இது இரட்டை விண்மீன் BINARY STARS என்பது தெரிந்தது நமக்குத் புரிகிறது. BLACK HOLES IN SIRIUS CONSTELLATION இதுவரை விஞ்ஞானிகள் கண்டுபிடிக்காத வேறொரு விஷயமும் அதர்வண வேத துதியில் உள்ளது. ‘ 3 காலகாஞ்சர்கள்’ அங்கே இருப்பதாகவும் ஓர் ரிஷி பாடுகிறார். இதை இதுவரை எந்த விஞ்ஞானிகளும் கண்டுபிடிக்கவில்லை. எதிர்காலத்தில் பிளாக் ஹோல் எனப்படும் கருந்துளைகள் அங்கேயும் இருப்பதாக வானியல் வல்லுநர்கள் அறிவித்தால் நாங்கள் அன்றே சொன்னோம் என்று இந்துக்கள் மார்தட்டிக்கொள்ளலாம். இந்த தகவல் இந்துக்களிடம் இருந்துதான் போயின என்பதற்கும் நமக்கு அருமையான சான்று கிடைத்துவிட்டது. அதர்வண வேதம் – ஆறாம் காண்டம்- சூக்தம் 253- காலகாஞ்சர்கள் அதர்வண வேதம் – ஏழாம் காண்டம்- சூக்தம் 320 – யக்ஞம் லத்தீன் கிரேக்க மொழிகளில் இதை DOG STAR நாய் நக்ஷத்திரம் என்று அழைப்பர். வேதத்தில் இரண்டு இடங்களிலும் இதை சுன , ஸ்வான என்று அழைப்பர். ‘ச’ என்பதை அவர்கள் ‘க’ என்ற எழுத்துடன் குழப்புவர். ஆகையால் அதை கேனிஸ் CANIS என்று உச்சரிக்கின்றனர் (CANIS MAJOR AND CANIS MINOR).
இந்த விஷயங்கள் நான் சொல்வது அல்ல. 100 ஆண்டுகளுக்கு முன்னர் கிரிப்பித் RALPH TH GRIFFITH முதலிய ஐரோப்பியர்கள் சொல்லிவிட்டனர். நாம் புதிதாகச் சொல்லுவது அதிலுள்ள கால காஞ்சர்கள் என்பன பிளாக் ஹோல் BLACKHOLE என்ற செய்தியே . இரட்டை நாய்கள் TWO DOGS என்ற தொடர் வேறு ஒரு சூக்கத்தில் வருகிறது .
முதலில் பாரதி எழுதிய பாடலைப் படியுங்கள் . அதில் அவர் ஒரு காதம் என்பதை பத்து மைல்களுக்கு சற்று குறைவாகக் கணக்கிட்டுள்ளார். அது சரியே . ஊணர் = யவனர் (சங்கத்தமிழ் இலக்கியத்தில் இது லத்தீன் மொழி பேசிய ரோமானியர்களைக் குறிக்கும். சம்ஸ்க்ருத இலக்கியங்களில் இது கிரேக்க மொழி பேசிய கிரேக்கர்களையும் வடமேற்கு இந்தியாவில் வாழ்ந்த ஜாதியினரையும் குறிக்கும் )

2.உண்டொரு வான்மீன் அஃதை ஊணர்கள் ஸிரியஸ் என்ப கண்டஅம் மீனின் முன்னை விரைவொடு கதிர்தான் இந்த மண்டலத்(து) எய்த மூவாண்(டு) ஆமென மதிப்ப ராயின் எண்டரற்(கு) எளிதோ அம்மீன் எத்தனை தொலைய(து) என்றே
4.மானுடக் கிருமி கோடி வருத்தத்தால் பயின்று கண்ட ஊனுரு கருவி யால்இஃ(து) உணர்ந்ததென்(று) உணரு வீரால் தானும்இக் கருவி காணத் தகாப்பெருந் தொலைய வாகும் மீனுள கோடி கோடி மேற்பல கோடி என்பர்
5.அறிவெனும் புள்ளும் எய்த்(து) அங்(கு) அயர்வோடு மீளும் கண்டீர் செறியும்இத் திசைதான் எல்லை இலதெனச் செப்பும் மாற்றம் பொறி தவிர்ந்(து) உரைத்த லன்றிப் பொருள் இதென்(று) உளத்தி னுள்ளே குறிதரக் கொள்ள லாமோ? கொஞ்சமோ திசையின் வெள்ளம்”.—- பாரதி

SIRIUS by Bharatiyar 1.In one moment light travels, the scholars say, Nineteen thousand Katam; such is its speed; It is indeed difficult to comprehend it. The sun’s light reaches us in eight minutes.
2.Westerners speak of a star called Sirius, it is reckoned That its rays , travelling at the same speed, takes three years to reach this mantala- the earth If so, is it easy for thought to fix its distance?
3.Oh men,hear this! This star among innuerable stars it is said, nearest to the earth- a mere millet Again there is a star whose rays take Three thousand light years to reach the earth.
4.Know that the human insects with manifold pains Devised but defective instruments to discover these (stars). And there are billions and billions of stars far, far away Which cannot be spotted through these tools at all.

மஹாகவி பாரதியாரின் நினைவு நூற்றாண்டை ஒட்டி விசேஷமாகத் தயாரிக்கப்பட்டு தினமணி நாளிதழால் வெளியிடப்பட்டுள்ள இந்த மலரில் நான்கு பகுதிகள் அமைந்துள்ளன. முதல் பகுதியில் காந்திஜி, ராஜாஜி, திரு.வி,க., வ.உ.சி., வ.வே.சு ஐயர், பரலி சு.நெல்லையப்பர், பாரதிதாசன், செல்லம்மா பாரதி, சோமசுந்தர பாரதி, தங்கம்மாள் பாரதி, சகுந்தலா பாரதி, யதுகிரி அம்மாள், வ.ரா., ரா.கனகலிங்கம், வையாபுரிப் பிள்ளை, சுத்தானந்த பாரதியார், பி. ஸ்ரீ., நாமக்கல் கவிஞர், ம.பொ.சிவஞானம், திருலோக சீதாராம், ரா.அ.பத்மநாபன், ஜீவா, ஜெயகாந்தன், கண்ணதாசன், சக்கரை செட்டியார், கி.வா.ஜகந்நாதன் பெ.சு.மணி ஆகிய 27 பாரதி ஆர்வலர்கள்/ நெருங்கிய குடும்பத்தார், சுற்றத்தார் ஆகியோரது அருமையான கட்டுரைகள் தொகுத்து வழங்கப்பட்டுள்ளன. இரண்டாம் பகுதியில் பாரதியாரின் ஐந்து புகைப்படங்கள் காட்சி தருகின்றன. மூன்றாம் பகுதியில் 13 அறிஞர்களின் கட்டுரைகளும் நான்காம் பகுதியில் இன்னும் 6 கட்டுரைகளும் தொகுத்துத் தரப்பட்டுள்ளன. 178 பக்கங்கள் கொண்ட மலராக அமைந்துள்ளது இது. காந்திஜி பற்றிய கட்டுரையில், பாரதியாரின் பாடல்களை பர்மா அரசாங்கத்தின் யோசனையின் படி அல்லது கட்டளையின் படி சென்னை அரசாங்கம் பறிமுதல் செய்யப்பட்டதை எதிர்த்து மஹாத்மா காந்திஜி தனது கடும் கண்டனத்தைத் தெரிவித்திருக்கிறார். அடுத்து 1958ஆம் ஆண்டு தினமணி சுடரில் ராஜாஜி எழுதிய ஒரு கட்டுரை மிக அருமையாக இருக்கிறது. அந்தக் கட்டுரையின் இறுதியில் அவர் குறிப்பிடுவதாவது; “அன்னிய ஆட்சி தீர்ந்து நாம் சுதந்திரம் பெற்று விட்டதை அவர் பார்க்கவில்லை. சுதந்திரத்திற்காகப் பாடுபட்டதைப் பார்த்தே மகிழ்ந்தார். பாரதியைக் கொடுத்த தமிழ் வயல் நல்ல வயல். அந்த வயலைச் சரியாகப் பாதுகாத்து வருவோம். முள்ளும், பூண்டும் வளர்ந்து கெட்டுப் போக விட மாட்டோம். பாரதி பிறந்த நாட்டில் பொய்யும் பித்தலாட்டமும் இருக்கலாமா, வேண்டாம்.” ராஜாஜியின் வார்த்தைகள் இந்தக் காலத்திற்கு மிகவும் பொருத்தமாக அமைகிறது. மாமா பாரதியார் என்று வ.உ.சி அவர்கள் தனது அனுபவங்களை விளக்கும் கட்டுரை மிக அருமையாக உள்ளது. நாட்டில் புதிய இயக்கம் பிறந்ததும் அதற்கேற்ற ஒரு புதிய கவி தோன்றினார் என்று கூறும் வ.வே.சு. ஐயர் அவர் பெயர் சுப்பிரமணிய பாரதியார் என்பதை அனைவரும் கண்டு பிடிப்பார்கள் என்று அறுதியிட்டு உறுதி கூறுகிறார் தனது ‘மறு மலர்ச்சிக் கவிஞர்’ என்ற கட்டுரையில். பாரதியின் கடைசி நாளை பரலி. சு. நெல்லையப்பர் உருக்கமாக விவரிக்கிறார் தனது கட்டுரையில். பாரதியாருடனான தனது முதல் சந்திப்பை பாரதி தாசன் தனது ‘ரவிவர்மா பரமசிவப் பட பாரதி’ என்ற கட்டுரையில் சுவைபட விவரிக்கிறார். படிக்க சுவாரசியமாக அமையும் இந்தக் கட்டுரை பலரும் அறியாத புது விவரங்களைத் தருகிறது. செல்லம்மா பாரதி, தங்கம்மாள் பாரதி, சகுந்தலா பாரதி ஆகியோர் பாரதியின் உற்ற குடும்பத்தார். அவர் தம் கட்டுரைகள் சுவையான சொந்த அனுபவங்களை விவரிக்கின்றன. யதுகிரி அம்மாள் புதுவையில் வசித்தவர். பாரதியாருடனான தனது நினைவுகளைத் தனி ஒரு நூலில் பதிவு செய்தவர். காணி நிலம் வேண்டும் என்ற தனது கட்டுரையில் புதுவையில் பெய்த கன மழை பற்றி விவரிக்கிறார். மகாகவி 16-11-1916 அன்று புது வீடு போன செய்தியையும் பார்க்க முடிகிறது. “பாரதியாரின் கவிதை ஆழமும் கரையும் காண முடியாத கடலாகும்” என்ற வ.ரா. அவர்களின் சரியான கணிப்பைத் தருகிறது அவரது ‘விசித்திரமான கவிதை’ என்ற கட்டுரை. பக்கத்திற்குப் பக்கம் பாரதியாரைப் பற்றிய அதிகாரபூர்வமான தகவல்களைப் படிக்கும் போது உள்ளம் குளிர்கிறது. மஹாகவியைப் பற்றி ஆராய ஏராளமான விஷயங்கள் உள்ளன. அவரைப் பற்றி முழுதுமாகக் கண்டவர் இது வரை யாருமில்லை. பாரதி பற்றிய ஒரு பெரும் களஞ்சியம் உருவாக வேண்டும். அதற்கு இப்படிப்பட்ட மலர்களும், நூல்களும் உதவியாக இருக்கும். நூற்றாண்டு நினைவு மலராக வந்திருக்கும் இந்த மலர் பாரதி ஆர்வலர்களுக்கு ஒரு வர பிரசாதம். தமிழர்கள் அனைவரும் வாங்கிப் படித்துத் தங்கள் இல்லத்தில் பாதுகாக்க வேண்டிய நூல்களில் இதுவும் ஒன்று என்பதில் ஐயமில்லை. பாரதி புகழ் ஓங்குக!

Sirius is the brightest star in the sky. it is 8-5 light years away from the earth. That means what we see in the sky is the light that travelled 8-5 years ago. Light travels at the speed of 1,86,000 miles per second. Vedic seers are the first one to record this star system. They called it two dogs. Now science also has proved it as a binary star system. Two stars Sirius A and Sirius B are revolving around each other. The time it takes to complete a round is 50 years.
Hindus named it as Dog, Svana in Sanskrit; the world followed it and called Canis in Latin; Svana in Sanskrit changes into S/C (v)anis It is very easy to derive Canis from Svanas. Since Hindus observed it as a binary star system they called it Two Dogs. Two Atharvana Veda (AV) Mantras and the gretatest of the modern Tamil poets Bharati have sung about it. Before going into the Vedic poems in AV, let us look at Bharatis poem:- xxx
SIRIUS by Bharatiyar 1.In one moment light travels, the scholars say, Nineteen thousand Katam; such is its speed; It is indeed difficult to comprehend it. The sun’s light reaches us in eight minutes.
2.Westerners speak of a star called Sirius, it is reckoned That its rays , travelling at the same speed, takes three years to reach this mantala- the earth If so, is it easy for thought to fix its distance?
3.Oh men,hear this! This star among innuerable stars it is said, nearest to the earth- a mere millet Again there is a star whose rays take Three thousand light years to reach the earth.
4.Know that the human insects with manifold pains Devised but defective instruments to discover these (stars). And there are billions and billions of stars far, far awway Which cannot be spotted through these tools at all.
5.The bird of intellect that soars returns fatigued; The dictum that the expansive directions are boundless Exceeds sense-perception; is beyond mind’s comprehension Endless is indeed the vastitude of the direction. — Tanslated from Tamil into English by Dr T N Ramachandran In a footnote TNR adds, The Tamil original appeared in ‘India’ magazine. Bharati gave wrong information regarding the distance of Sirius . It is not the nearest star system And modern calculation show it is 8-5 light years away. But at his times, 100 years ago, probably that was the information he received from newspapers. Atharvana Veda has two poems on Dog Star/Sirius. One of them was reported as Sirius. Other poem was not recognised by Westerners. I only interprete it as Sirius star system.But Vedic description coincides with the modern knowledge of Sirius star system. Here are the two Poems
HYMN LXXX ;AV; Book 6;Sukta 253 A prayer for help and protection 1.He flieth in the firmament observing all the things that be: We with this offering will adore the greatness of the Heavenly Hound 2.The three, the Kālakānjas, set aloft in heaven as they were Gods All these I call to be our help and keep this man secure from harm. 3.In waters is thy birth, in heaven thy station, thy majesty on earth and in the ocean. We with this offering will adore the greatness of the Heavenly Hound. —Hymns of the Atharva Veda, by Ralph T.H. Griffith, [1895], Griffith’s Foot note adds:- The Heavenly Hound- some conspicuous star, Perhaps the Dog Star, Sirius, which was called Canis by the Greeks and Canis or Canicula by the Latins, both words being closely connected with the Sanskrit Svana. My comments BLACK HOLES Griffith’s footnote adds…. ‘Kaalakaanjas’ meaning originally black spotted; stars of some nidentifiable constellation. I interpret it as BLACK HOLES As of now there is no report of black holes, but a third star in the sytem is detected. Who knows? Infuture we may hear something about Black! Griffith adds Mantra 3.Thy birth- the origin of the Heavenly Hound. So with the Greeks , Sirius was said to have been the dog of the great hunter Orion and the Latin Canis or Calicula was the dog ofErigoe translated with its mistress to the sky. MY COMMENTS Orion is the constelation which Hindus interpret it as Lord Shiva. We have Arudra, Mrgasirshsa stars there in the system. Greek stories are distorted versions of Hindu Puranic stories. We may comapre them to local sthala puranas of Tamil temples. Each god and goddess is localised by the villagers and city dwellers ith some stories.
In short , the whole world took our name for the star Svana/Dog. now the encyclopedias concoted so many stories to justify the word Dog. They have never quoted the oldest reference in the Vedas. Greek mythologycame very late. Even this Divya Svan, the Divine Dog or the Heavenly Hound is interpreted differently by others. Two Divine Dogs in Maitrayani Samhita is interpreted as Sun and Moon by Bloomfiled!

HYMN V; BOOK 7; AV; Hymn 5
Here in this verse, no body recognised the dog as Sirius star. Only I interpret it as Sirius. There is a clear mention of dog. And a horse is also mentioned. Persians called Sirius a white horse. Persians are the people who left Gujarat and seetled in Iran/Persia. When Muslims occupied Vedic Iran, the persian Hindus came back to same Gujarat; they are called Parsees.
HYMN V; BOOK 7; AV; Hymn 5 A glorification of sacrifice 1.The Gods adored the Sacrifice with worship: these were the statutes of primeval ages. Those mighty ones attained the cope of heaven, there where the Sādhyas, Gods of old, are dwelling. 2.Sacrifice was, was manifest among us: it sprang to life and then in time grew stronger. Then it became thedeities’ lord and ruler: may it bestow on us abundant riches. 3.Where the Gods worshipped Gods with their oblation, worship- ped immortals with immortal spirit, There in the loftiest heaven may we be happy, and look upon that light when Sūrya rises. 4.With their oblation, Purusha, the Gods performed a sacrifice. A sacrifice more potent still they paid with the invoking hymn.
With dog the Gods, perplexed, have paid oblation, and with cow’s limbs in sundry sacrifices. Invoke for us, in many a place declare him who with his mind. hath noticed this our worship. xxx Griffith Note gives following information:- Sadhyas- According to Yaska, ‘the gods whose dwelling places is the sky’. Purusha – Explained in 10-90 of Rig Veda; that is the famous Purushasukta, recited in every temple, every day. With Dog- no legend referring to this extraordinary sacrifice has survived. M Victor Henry changed one word to Muurdhnaa= with the head and interpreted it as Horse head given to Dhadyang. MY COMMENTS Dadhyanc story is confused with this poem. The seer never meant him or horse head. Dog refrs to Sirius. If we look at in from that angle, it makes sense.

சுமார் முப்பது வெள்ளைக்காரர்கள் நமது நான்கு வேதங்களை மொழிபெயர்த்தனர் ; எல்லோரும் நவக்கிரகங்கள்; நல்ல கோமாளிகள் ; இரண்டு கடிகாரங்கள் ஒரே நேரத்தைக் காட்டாது என்ற பழமொழிக்கு இலக்கணமாகத் திகழ்ந்தார்கள். ஒரே சொல்லுக்கு நாலு கோமாளிகள் நாலு விதமாகப் பொருள் சொன்னதோடு எ திரும் புதிருமாக அர்த்தம் செய்தார்கள் . ஆனால் ஒரே ஒரு விஷயத்தில் அவர்கள் ஒன்றுபட்டார்கள் ஆரியர்கள் வெளிநாட்டிலிருந்து இந்தியாவுக்குள் புகுந்தார்கள், பூர்வ குடிமக்களை விரட்டியடித்தார்கள் என்பதில் ஒற்றுமை!! ஏனெனில் உலகம் முழுதும் கனடா, அமெரிக்கா, ஆஸ்திரேலிய கண்டங்களில் குடியேறிய வெள்ளைக்காரர்கள் அங்குள்ள பூர்வ குடிமக்களை குருவி சுடுவது போலவும், வனவிலங்குகளை வேட்டையாடுவது போலவும் கொன்று குவித்து அந்த நாடுகளையும் பிடுங்கிக் கொண்டார்கள். இன்று ஆங்காங்கே பெயரளவுக்கு மட்டுமே அவர்கள் உள்ளனர் ; அதே கொள்கையை இந்தியா மீதும் திணித்து, சங்ககால இலக்கியத்தில் இல்லாத, புராண இதிஹாசங்களில் இல்லாத பொய்மைச் செய்திகளைப் பரப்பினார்கள்.
நல்ல வேளை , பாரதி போன்ற யுகபுருஷர்களும், மஹாத்மா காந்தி, அம்பேத்கார், சுவாமி விவேகானந்தர் போன்றோரும் ஆரிய திராவிட வாதத்துக்கு சாவு மணி அடித்தார்கள்
இந்த முப்பது வெள்ளைக்காரர்களும் ஒப்புக்கொண்ட இன்னொரு விஷயம் சோமபானம் என்பது போதைப்பொருள்; அது சாப்பிட்டவுடன் போதை தலைக்கேறும் என்று சொல்லி பல காளான் வகைத் தாவரங்களின் பெயர்களை எல்லாம் உளறிக் கொட்டினார்கள். இது 1895ம் ஆண்டு RALPH T H GRIFFITH கிரிப்பித் வெளியிட்ட வேத மொழி பெயர்ப்பிலேயே உள்ளது. மொத்தத்தில் மாக்ஸ் முல்லர் கும்பலும் தேச விரோத, இந்து விரோத மார்க்ஸீயக் கும்பலும் ஒத்துக்கொண்ட விஷயம் இது.
ஆனால் வேதம் முழுதும் சோமபானம் பற்றிவரும் அதிசயச் செய்திகளை மறைத்தோ அல்லது அவை செய்தியே அல்ல என்ற பாணியில் பாராமுகம் காட்டியோ இதைச் செய்தனர். இன்றுவரை அவர்கள் சோம பானத்தை பயன்படுத்தி, அவர்கள் சொன்னதை நிரூபிக்கவும் இல்லை ! XXX சோமபானம் பற்றிய அதிசயச் செய்திகள்
4 வேதங்களிலும் சோம பானம் பற்றி நிறைய அதிசயச் செய்திகள் உள்ளன.
1.சோம லதா என்ற கொடியை அல்லது தாவரத்தை கழுகுகள் கொண்டுதரும்
சோமம் என்னும் மூலிகை, மூலிகைகளின் அரசன்
சோமத்தில் 15 வகைகள் உண்டு
சோமம் என்பது சிவப்பு நிற மரம் 5.சோமபானத்தைக் குடித்தால் பாவம் போகும்
மனம் சுத்தம் ஆகும்
சக்தி, வீரம் அளிக்கும் 8.புளிப்பு, இனிப்பு சுவையுடன் இருக்கும் 9அதைப் பிழியும் மரக் கரண்டிகள், கற்கள் ஆகியன தெய்வம் போன்றவை இவைகளை எல்லாம் விளக்காமல் சென்றுவிடுவார்கள் .தளவாய்புரம் செப்பேடுகள் 1200 ஆண்டு பழமையானவை. அது சோமயாகம் செய்து மனம் சுத்தமான காடக சோமயாஜியின் புகழைப் பாடுகின்றது . பகவத் கீதை, சிலப்பதிகாரம், விஷ்ணு சஹஸ்ர நாமம் ஆகியன சோம யாகத்தைப் புகழ்கின்றன. ; உலக மகா கவி சுப்ரமணிய பாரதி, நம து நாட்டை ஆரிய நாடு என்று பல இடங்களில் புகழ்வதோடு ஆரிய என்பதை நல்ல பொருளில், உண்மைப் பொருளில், பயன்படுத்துகிறார். இதே போல பாரதியார் சோம ரசத்தைப் புகழ்ந்தும் பாடுகிறார் ; இது பலருக்கும் தெரியாது
அவருடைய படலைப் பார்ப்பதற்கு முன்னர், கீதையும் சிலப்பதிகாரமும் எப்படிப் புகழ்கின்றன என்று பாருங் கள் ! பகவத் கீதை 9-20 “மூன்று வேதங்களையும் கற்றவர்கள் வேள்விகளால் என்னைப் பூஜித்து சோம பானத்தால் பாவம் தோய்ந்தவர்களாய் சுவர்கத்துக்குச் செல்லுவதை வேண்டுகின்றார்கள் .அவர்கள் புண்ய பலத்தின் உறைவிடமான தேவேந்திர உலகத்தை அடைந்து அவ்வானுலகில் ஒளி வீசுகின்ற தேவர்கள் அனுபவிக்கும் சுக போகங்களை அனுபவிக்கிறார்கள் “.
இந்த ஸ்லோகம், சோமபானம் அருந்துவதால் பாவம் போய், அவர்கள் சொர்கத்துக்குச் சென்று ஒளிமயம் ஆகிவிடுவார்கள் என்கிறது.
காஞ்சி பரமாசார்ய சுவாமிகளும் அரசனுக்குரிய வெண் குடை சோமயாஜிகளுக்கு கிடைக்கும் என்கிறார். விஷ்ணு சஹஸ்ர நாமத்துக்கு உரை எழுதிய சங்கரரும் சோமபானம் என்பது கடவுளரின் ரத்தத்துக்குச் சமம் என்று ஹரிவம்ச ஸ்லோகத்தின் மூலம் காட்டுகிறார். இளங்கோ அடிகள் இளங்கோ அடிகள் எழுதிய சிலப்பதிகாரத்தில் தமிழர்கள் சோமயாகம் செய்தது பற்றிப் பாடுகிறார் .
“இந்திரனுடைய அமராவதியிலிருந்து சதுக்க பூதங்களை வஞ்சி நகருக்குக் கொண்டுவந்து , மது அருந்துவதற்குரிய சோம வேள்விகளைச் செய்தவன் இன்று இல்லை” என்கிறார்
சதுக்கப்பூதரை வஞ்சியுள் தந்து மதுக்கொள் வேள்வி வேட்டோன் ஆயினும் — நடுகல் கதை, சிலப்பதிகாரம்
இதிலிருந்து ஒருகாலத்தில், ஒரு சேர மன்னன், சோம யாகம் செய்தது தெரிகிறது; மது என்னும் சொல் தேன், சோமம் ஆகிய இரண்டுக்கும் வேதத்தில் பயன்பட்டது சுரா பானம் என்பதை கள் , சாராயம் என்று சொல்லி வேதம் கண்டிக்கிறது . பாரதி இரண்டு பாடல்களில் சோம ரசத்தைக் குறிப்பிடுகிறார்.
மது என்ற சொல்லுக்கு இரண்டு பொருள் உள்ளது போலவே சோமம் என்பதற்கு சந்திரன், சோமபானம் என்ற இரண்டு பொருள் உண்டு. அதற்கு உமையுடன் கூடிய சிவன் (ச+உமா=சோம )என்றும் சங்கரர், விஷ்ணு ஸஹஸ்ரநாம உரையில் விளம்புகிறார்.
ஜய ஸோம என்ற பாரதி பாட்டில் இந்திரனையும் சோமனையும் தொடர்பு படுத்திப் பாடுகினறார் .ரிக்வேதம் முழுதும் இந்திரனுடன் சோம ரசம்தான் சம்பந்தப்படுகிறது. அதனால்தான் இந்திரன் சக்தி பெற்று விருத்திரன் முதலியோரைக் கொன்றான் என்றும் வருகிறது.
இந்திர- சோமன் என்று ஜோடியாகப் பாடப்படும் ஓரிரு துதிகளிலும் சோமம் என்னும் மூலிகைப் பற்றித்தான் பேசுகின்றனர் உரைகாரர்கள் ; ஆகவே ஜய சோமம் பாடல் சோம மூலிகை பற்றிதே. ஒருவேளை வேத கால முனிவர் போலவே பாரதியும் இரட்டுற மொழிந்திருக்கலாம் .

ஸ்வாமிஜி கிருஷ்ணா! (Swamiji Krishna of Achankovil!) – 4 ச.நாகராஜன் 8 சாப்பாடை ரெடி பண்ணி வை! மதுரையில் ஒரு மிட்டாய் வியாபாரி. ஸ்வாமிஜியின் அணுக்க பக்தர். பெயர் ராஜாராம். ஒரு நாள் ஸ்வாமிஜியிடம் பேசிக் கொண்டிருந்த போது அவரது பெயரைச் சொல்லி ‘ “அவர் வந்து கொண்டிருக்கிறார். ஆலமரத்தடியில் படுத்திருக்கிறார். களைப்பாக வருவார். சாப்பாடை ரெடி பண்ணி வை” என்றார் ஸ்வாமிஜி. ஸ்வாமிஜியின் அணுக்கமான ஒரு பக்த குடும்பம் சீதாராமையர் எனபவரின் குடும்பம். அங்கு அனந்தகிருஷ்ணன், சுப்பாமணி, ராஜு உள்ளிட்டோர் வருபவரை கவனித்துக் கொள்வது வழக்கம். களைப்பாக வருவார் என்று ஸ்வாமிஜி சொல்லியதும் ஏதோ ஒரு விஷயம் இருக்கிறது என்று எங்களுக்குத் தோன்றியது. ஸ்வாமிஜி வீட்டின் முகப்பில் உட்கார்ந்து ராஜாராம் எப்போது வரப் போகிறார் என்று காத்துக் கொண்டிருந்தோம். இரவு எட்டு மணிக்கு மேலாகி விட்டது. தூரத்தில் ஹெட்லைட் வெளிச்சம் தெரிந்தது. ராஜாராம் வந்தார். வண்டியிலிருந்து இறங்கினார். ஒரே களைப்பு அவர் முகத்தில் தெரிந்தது. மிகவும் சோர்வாக இருந்தார். அவரைப் பார்த்தவுடன் குதூகலமாக அனைவரும் சிரித்தோம். இந்தச் சிரிப்பு அவருக்கு எப்படி பிடிக்கும். மனிதரோ படு டல்லாக வந்திருக்கிறாரே! “என்ன ஆலமரத்தடியில் படுத்திருந்தீர்களா? ஒரே களைப்பா! சாப்பாடு ரெடி” என்று கூவினோம். இதைக் கேட்ட மாத்திரத்தில் அவர் களைப்பும் சோர்வும் பறந்தே போனது. “எப்படித் தெரியும் நான் ஆலமரத்தடியில் படுத்து தூங்கியது. ரொம்ப மோசமாப் போச்சு. கார் டயர் வெடித்து பஞ்சர். நடுக்காட்டில் விட்டது போல இருந்தது. ஆளை அனுப்பி ரிப்பேர் செய்து வர்றதுக்குள்ள போதும் போதும்னு ஆயிடிச்சு”” எங்களுக்கு அப்போது தான் கார் பஞ்சரான விஷயம் புரிந்தது. அவர் ஆவலுடன் கேட்டார்: “ஸ்வாமிஜி சொல்லிட்டாரா?” ஆம் என்றோம். அவர் மகிழ்ச்சியுடன் சாப்பிடச் சென்றார். சாப்பிட்டுத் தூங்கி காலையில் ஸ்வாமிஜியை ஹோம சமயத்தில் தரிசனம் செய்யலாம் என்று அவர் எடுத்த முடிவு சரிதான்! டயர் வெடித்து ஆலமரத்தடியில் படுத்துத் தூங்கிய அனுபவம் இப்போது அவருக்கு மிகுந்த மகிழ்ச்சியையும் உற்சாகத்தையும் தந்து விட்டது. அது தான் எது நடந்தாலும் ஸ்வாமிஜி பார்த்துக் கொண்டிருக்கிறாரே! அவர் இருக்க கவலை ஏன்? 9 நமஸ்காரம் செய்யுங்கள்! மதுரையில் எங்கள் குடும்பத்திற்கு மிக நெருக்கமான குடும்பம் இந்தியன் பேங்க் ஏஜண்ட் சங்கர ஐயருடைய குடும்பம். (அந்தக் காலத்தில் மேனேஜர் என்பது இல்லை; ஏஜண்ட் என்பது தான் உயர் பதவி) அவரது மகன் திரு எம்.எஸ். வெங்கட்ராமன் தினமணியில் உதவி ஆசிரியராக வேலை பார்த்துக் கொண்டிருந்தார். அவருக்கு ஸ்வாமிஜி தான் கணபதி ஹோமம் செய்ய அருள் பாலித்து உபதேசித்திருந்தார். ஒரு நாள் அவர் வீட்டில் கணபதி ஹோமம் நடந்து கொண்டிருந்தது. அனைவரும் அங்கு இருந்தோம். திடீரென்று ஸ்வாமிஜி மேலே அண்ணாந்து பார்த்தார். அனைவரையும் அவசரம் அவசரமாக நமஸ்காரம் செய்யச் சொன்னார். அனைவரும் உடனே சாஷ்டாங்க நமஸ்காரம் செய்தோம். விஷயம் என்னவென்று அப்போது தெரியாது. பின்னால் ஹோமம் முடிந்த பின்னர் தான் முழு விவரமும் தெரிய வந்தது. ஹோமத்தைப் பார்க்க குழந்தையானந்த ஸ்வாமிகள் வந்திருக்கிறார். அவரைப் பார்த்த ஸ்வாமிஜி அனைவரையும் நமஸ்காரம் செய்யச் சொன்னார். டபிள் பெனிஃபிட்! கணபதி ஆசீர்வாதமும் கூடவே குழந்தையானந்தர் ஆசீர்வாதமும் கிடைத்தது. அத்துடன் சங்கர ஐயர் தனது குடும்ப முன்னோரில் ஒருவர் யதியாக இருந்ததையும் தெரிவித்தார். 10 அச்சன்கோவிலுக்கு சாலை வேண்டும் : ஸ்வாமிஜியின் சங்கல்பம்! இடம் தென்காசி. டிராவலர்ஸ் பங்களா வாரண்டாவில் காலையில் ஒரு கும்பலாக சேர்களில் அமர்ந்து கொண்டிருந்தோம். விஷயம் என்னவெனில் தென்காசி ஆலயத்தில் கும்பாபிஷேகம். இந்த ஆலயத்தைப் பற்றிய முக்கிய விசேஷம் ஒன்று உண்டு. இதைக் கட்டிய பராக்ரம பாண்டியன் ஒரு கல்வெட்டில் இப்படிப் பொறித்து வைத்திருந்தான். “ஆராயினும் இந்த தென்காசி மேவும் பொன்னாலயத்து வாராததோர் குற்றம் வந்தாலப்போதங்கு வந்ததனை நேராகவே யொழித்துப் புரப்பார்களை நீதியுடன் பாராரறியப் பணிந்தேன் பராக்ரம பாண்டியனே” என்ன ஒரு பக்தி வினயம் பாருங்கள். பின்னால் ஒரு குற்றம் கோவிலுக்கு வந்து அதை சரி செய்பவர்களுக்கு இப்போதே எனது நமஸ்காரம் என்று பெரும் மன்னனான அவன் கல்வெட்டில் செதுக்கி வைத்திருந்தான். அந்தக் கோவில் கோபுரம் தான் விரிசல் கண்டிருந்தது. அதற்குத் தான் அதை புனருத்தாரணம் செய்து கும்பாபிஷேகம். நானும் ஒட்டிக் கொண்டு அங்கு சென்றிருந்தேன். டிராவலர்ஸ் பங்களாவில் என் முன்னே கம்பீரமாக வீற்றிருந்தவர் மாதவன் நாயர். கேரளாவின் டிரான்ஸ்போர்ட் பிரிவின் மிக உயரிய அதிகாரி. மனிதர் கடும் ஆசாமி. யாராவது தாடி மீசை வைத்திருந்தால் நம்பக் கூடாது; இழுத்துப் பார்க்க வேண்டும் என்று சொல்பவர் அவர். அவரிடம் சும்மா இருக்காமல்,” எப்படி ஸ்வாமிஜியுடனான உங்கள் அறிமுகமும் தொடர்பும் ஏற்பட்டது” என்று கேட்டேன். வேறு யாரும் அவருடன் பேசக் கூட பயப்படுவர். அப்படி ஒரு மிடுக்கும் அதிகார தோரணையும் கொண்டவர் அவர். தைரியமாகக் கேட்டு வைத்தேன். அவர் உற்சாகமாகச் சொல்லத் தொடங்கினார். அது தான் இந்த சம்பவம் :- மாதவன் நாயரிடம் அச்சன்கோவிலுக்கு சரியான பாதை இல்லை என்றும் கரடுமுரடாக உள்ள மலைப்பாதையை சரி செய்து சாலை அமைத்து பக்தர்கள் செல்வதற்கு உரியதாக ஆக்க வேண்டும் என்பது ஸ்வாமிஜியின் ஆசை. சங்கல்பம். சொல்லிச் சொல்லிப் பார்த்தார். கடைசியில் ஒரு நாள் மாதவன் நாயர் தானே இன்ஸ்பெக்ட் செய்ய வருகிறேன் என்று வந்தார். ஸ்வாமிஜியுடன் அந்த கரடு முரடான சாலையில் சென்றார். செல்லும் வழியில் அவருக்கு ஒரு சந்தேகம். இந்த தலத்திற்கு ஒரு சாலை அமைப்பது அவசியமா? அப்படி ஒரு சக்தி வாய்ந்த தெய்வம் தானா ஐயப்பன்? ஸ்வாமிஜி சொல்வது சரியா? அவர் கேட்டார் :”ஸ்வாமிஜி! ஐயப்பன் பெரிய தெய்வம் என்றால் ஒரு புலியை எனக்குக் காண்பிக்க முடியுமா?” ஸ்வாமிஜி பதில் பேசவில்லை. மலைப்பாதையின் அடுத்த வளைவில் ஜீப் சடன் ப்ரேக் போட்டு நிறுத்தப்பட்டது சாலையை மறித்துக் கொண்டு நின்றது ஒரு பெரும் புலி. மாதவன் நாயர் அரண்டு விட்டார். “சரி சரி, புலியை போகச் சொல்லுங்கள். சாலை அமைக்க வேண்டியது தான்” என்று கூவினார் அவர். புலி மெதுவாக நகர்ந்து சென்றது. வண்டி போகத் தொடங்கியது. மாதவன் நாயருக்கு சந்தேகம். “சரி தான்! நான் கேட்டேன்.புலி வந்தது. இது ஒரு கோயின்ஸிடென்ஸ் (தற்செயல் நிகழ்வு) என்று கூடச் சொல்லலாமே!” தனது எண்ணத்தை வாய் விட்டுச் சொல்லி விட்டார் அவர். அடுத்த வளைவு வந்தது. இன்னொரு புலி. இது இன்னும் பெரியது. சாலையை வழிமறித்தது. உறுமவில்லை. சிரித்தது. மாதவன் நாயர் அலறி விட்டார். “ஆஹா! ஐயப்பனே ஐயப்பன்” என்று ஒப்புக் கொண்டார். அற்புதமான சாலை வந்தது. அன்று முதல் அவர் ஸ்வாமிஜியின் அணுக்க பக்தராக ஆகி விட்டார். அவருடைய இந்த விவரணத்தைக் கேட்டவுடன் அனைவருக்கும் அளவிலா மகிழ்ச்சி. தென்காசி கும்பாபிஷேக புண்ணியத்துடன் ஸ்வாமிஜியின் அருமையையும் அறிந்து கொண்டோம். அவருக்கு எங்கள் நமஸ்காரத்தையும் நன்றியையும் சொல்லி மகிழ்ந்தோம். 11 இன்னும் பெரிய பதவி வரும்! பாரதத்தின் ராஷ்டிரபதியாக பதவி வகித்த வி.வி. கிரி ஸ்வாமிஜியின் பக்தர். அவரது மகள் சாவித்திரி. மருமகன் டாக்டர் ராமாராவ். டாக்டர் ராமாராவ் மதுரா கோட்ஸில் மதுரையில் வேலை பார்த்து வந்தார். ஆகவே கிரி அவர்களைப் பற்றிய பல செய்திகள் எங்களுக்குத் தெரிய வரும். முதலில் கேரள அரசில் லேபர் மினிஸ்டராக அவர் பதவி வகித்தார். ஸ்வாமிஜி, ‘இன்னும் பெரிய பதவி வரும்’ என்றார். யாருக்கும் அப்போது அது என்ன பெரிய பதவி என்று புரியவில்லை. அவர் கேரள கவர்னரானார். ஆஹா! ஸ்வாமிஜி சொன்னது சரியாகப் போய் விட்டது. கவர்னர் பதவி தான் பெரிய பதவி. மினிஸ்டர் எங்கே, கவர்னர் எங்கே என்று சொல்லிக் கொண்டாடினோம். ஆனால் ஸ்வாமிஜியோ ‘இன்னும் பெரிய பதவி’ என்றார். அவர் பின்னால் பாரத்தத்தின் ராஷ்டிரபதி ஆனார். ஆஹா, ஸ்வாமிஜியின் வார்த்தைக்கு உடனடியாகப் பொருள் யாராலாவது கண்டு பிடிக்க முடியுமா? தேசத்தின் மிக உயர்ந்த பதவியை வகிக்க அவருக்கு அருள் பாலித்த அவரது அருள் உயரத்தை, அகலத்தை, ஆழத்தைத் தான் நிர்ணயிக்க முடியுமா? ஸ்வாமிஜியே சரணம். சரணம் ஐயப்பா!! மஹா கணபதியே சரணம்!!!

Foreign translators of the Vedas misled the entire world with a wrong interpretation of the Soma herb. They dodged when starnge information about Soma herb came without interpretation or translation. Soma is brought by ealgles from heaven, Soma is a red tree, Soma purifies mind, Soma cures, Soma drives away Sins, Soma in Bhagavd Gita, Soma in Vishnu Sahsranama etc are ignored by Westerners. Soma is praised by the national poet Subrahmanya Bharati is also not received any attention from any quarters. Bhagavad Gita , Vishnu Sahsranama and Dalvaipuram Tamil Copper Plates and many other sources praise Soma juice and present it with a positive coonotation. Bhagavad Gita 9-20 The knowers of the the three Vedas who drink the Soma juice and are cleaned of sin,worshipping me with sacrifices, pray for the way to heaven. They reach the holy world of Indra (the lord of heaven) and enjoy in heaven the pleasures of the gods (9-20) Let us look at what the greatest of the modern Tamil poets say about Soma herb :-
Bhrati himself has translated this poem into English:-
Unto the Mother (A Song of Sacrifice) Some cll thee Matter; others have named thee Force As Nature some do adore thee; others know as life, Some call thee Mind.Yet others have named thee God. Energy Supreme, O Mother, by grace accept our sacrifice drink this excellent soma-wine that we offer thee and let us behold thy dance of Bliss ……… (and in the fourth stanza (according to Tamil version) Bharati adds)
Luminous thought is our soma wine we have passed it for thee from the bright leaves of earthly life by the force of Will. Drink it O Mother, for we long to behold thine exultant dance and sing ourselves into gods
(And in the third stanza, Bharati left some part not translated, but Dr T N Ramachandran gives it in English within brackets)
O thou true nectar, healer of wounds and maker of delights O deathless fire, O source of light and force (virtue and perfervour gush forth From thee- the spa of divine grace! Through hast vowed ever to stand by us to foster us in loving grace) xxx
MY COMMENTS Through out the Vedas, nectar, honey, Madhu/mead, Soma are used in interchangeable way. So no one is sure what the seers meant. They deliberately punned on the word Soma. Even according to Western translators it has more than three meanings. Here in Tamil and Bharati’s own English translation we see Soma Juice in good and positive light. In Tamil the title is ‘Siva Shakt’i and in English the title is Unto the Mother (A Song of Sacrifice) So we see Soma is deified as in the Vedas. There we see even the vessels that contain Soma are deified; the stones that press the Soma herb are deified. In short everything linked to Soma is Divine. Bharati is also in the same wave length. So it is not a narcotic drug as projected by the Westerners. xxx In another verse also Bharati confirms his positive views on Soma Rasa unlike foreign translators:- Vedic Rishis are punning on words and all the translators are confused with words like Soma, Madhu, Pasu, Ayas, Sea/Sky, Sindhu, Asva, Ship, Bird etc. Even the Western translators clash on certain words and five people give five different meanings! Coming to Soma, there is always a pun on this word to mean Soma herb and the Moon. Somasekar, Somasundaram are common names in Tamil linked to Lord Shiva.
Here DR T N RAMACHANDRAN translate the poem as Moon. Look at the translation of the poem ‘Jaya Soma’
182.In Praise of the Moon Hil, Soma, hail soma, hail Lord Chandra Praise be, praise be. Indra is the lord thanks to you. MY COMMENTS Here also there is pun on the word- Soma Soma herb is associated with Indra throughout the Rig Veda and not Moon. Indra destroyed Asuras with the power of Soma herb says Rig Veda. Other lines in the poem may be attributed to both moon and Soma herb. So I take its as a poem on Soma herb for the simple reason that moon is not associated with Indra or with the destruction of Asuras. From another angle, one may even say that Bharati also used the word Soma in two meanings like Vedic Rishis. And to support my view I will even say that Bharti himslef sung on Moon with the Tamil word ‘Vennilavu’ in his other poems I have given the Tamil originals for the sake of Tamil knowing public:-

ஷீர்டி சாயிபாபா! – 3
பாபா தொடர்ந்தார் :- “இந்த ஸ்லோகம் எப்படி ஒரு சிஷ்யன் ‘மெய்யை” அனுபவத்தில் அறிய தன் குருவை அணுக வேண்டும் என்பதை விளக்குகிறது..ஒரு சிஷ்யன் தனது உடல்,மனம்,ஆன்மா ஆகிய மூன்றையும் முழுதுமாக அர்ப்பணித்து குருவை அணுக வேண்டும். இந்த முழு சமர்ப்பண நிலையுடன் நமஸ்காரம் செய்யப்பட வேண்டும். இதுவே ப்ரணிபாதம்! அடுத்து குருவிடம் சாதாரணமாகக் கேள்வி கேட்பது மட்டும் போதாது. தேவையற்ற கேள்விகளைக் கேட்கக் கூடாது. வெறும் ஆர்வத்தினால் எழப்பட்ட கேள்விகளாக அவைகள் இருக்கக் கூடாது.தவறான அணுகுமுறை மூலம் அவை கேட்கப்படக் கூடாது. அவருடைய பதிலில் என்ன தவறுகளைக் கண்டுபிடிக்கலாம் என்ற முறையற்ற தூண்டுதல் இருக்கக் கூடாது. முன்னேற்றம் மற்றும் முக்தியை அடைவதற்காகக் கேள்வியின் நோக்கம் மிகத் தூய்மையாக இருக்க வேண்டும்.மேலும் கேள்விகள் மீண்டும் மீண்டும் முழுப் பொருளையும் உணரும் வரை கேட்கப்பட வேண்டும். (குடைந்து குடைந்து கேட்க வேண்டும்!) இதுவே பரிப்ரஸ்னம்!! அடுத்து சேவை என்பது வெறும் தொண்டு மட்டுமல்ல. நல்ல விளைவை ஒருவன் பெற வேண்டுமானால் அவன் சேவையைச் செய்வதற்கும் அல்லது மறுப்பதற்கும் அலை பாயும் எண்ணத்துடன் இருக்கக் கூடாது. தனது உடலின் எஜமானன், தான் என்ற உணர்வு அவனுக்கு இருக்கக் கூடாது. அவனது உடல் குருவினுடையது. அவருக்குச் சேவை செய்வதற்கு மட்டுமே அது இருக்கிறது என்ற எண்ணம் அவனுக்கு இருக்க வேண்டும். அடுத்து ஞானம் என்பது அனுபூதி பெறுதலாகும். அது சத் வஸ்து.அதை வாக்காலோ அல்லது மனதாலோ அடைய முடியாது.ஆகவே குருவின் உபதேசம் கூட அஞ்ஞானம் தான்! என்றாலும் கூட முள்ளை முள்ளால் எடுப்பது போல இந்த குருவின் உபதேசம் என்னும் அஞ்ஞானம் மற்ற எல்லா அஞ்ஞானத்தையும் போக்கித் திரையைத் தூக்கி ஆன்மாவைக் காண்பிக்கும் இது இலேசில் நடக்கக் கூடிய காரியமல்ல. நீண்ட நெடுங்காலம் அஞ்ஞானத்தில் மூழ்கி இருந்ததால் ஜென்ம ஜென்மம் தோறும் தொடர்ந்து வந்த அது (மிக்க முயற்சியினாலேயே) நீக்கப்பட வேண்டும். நீண்ட விளக்கத்தைக் கூறிய பாபா நிறுத்தினார். நானாவும் அங்கிருந்த இதரரும் விக்கித்துப் பிரமித்தனர். இதைத் தொடர்ந்து தினம்தோறும் பாபா பகவத்கீதையை நானாவிற்கும் மற்றவருக்கும் விளக்கலானார்.
பாபா எப்படிப்பட்ட மகோன்னதமான ஞானஸ்தர்,சம்ஸ்கிருத பாஷா விற்பன்னர் என்பதை அனைவரும் உணரும் வாய்ப்பாக இந்த சம்பவம் அமைந்தது. அத்தோடு சுமார் இருபது லட்சம் வார்த்தைகளைக் கொண்டுள்ள மஹாபாரதத்தில் வியாஸர் இரண்டு அட்சரங்களைக் கூட வீணாகச் சேர்க்க மாட்டார் என்ற நம்பிக்கையைக் கொள்ள வேண்டும் என்று உலக மக்களுக்கு இந்தச் சம்பவம் விளக்கியது. கணபதியையே பொருள் தெரிந்து எழுத வேண்டும் என்று நிபந்தனை போட்ட வியாஸரின் சொற்கள் ஒவ்வொன்றும் ஆழமாயும் அர்த்தம் உள்ளதாயும் இருக்கும் என்பதை அனைவரும் அறிந்து கொள்ள பாபா செய்த அருள் நிகழ்ச்சி இது. ஒரே ஒரு கீதை வார்த்தைக்கே இப்படி ஆழ்ந்த பொருள் இருப்பதை மஹான்கள் விளக்கம் மூலமாக அறிய வேண்டி இருக்கிறது! முழு வேத, இதிஹாஸ புராணங்களையும் எப்படிப் புரிந்து கொள்வது என்ற கேள்வி எழுவது இயல்பே! இந்தக் கேள்விக்கு விடை இந்த ஸ்லோகத்திலேயே இருக்கிறது. ப்ரணிபாதம், பரிப்ரஸ்னம், சேவை மூலமாகத் தான்!
ஒரு சமயம் அப்பா குல்கர்ணி என்ற பக்தர் பாபாவை அணுகி புராணங்கள் உண்மை தானா என்று கேட்டார்.”ஆம்” என்றார் பாபா. ராமரும் கிருஷ்ணரும் கூட உண்மையில் வாழ்ந்தவர்களா என்று மேலும் கேட்டார் அவர். ஆமாம்.அவர்கள் பெரும் மஹாத்மாக்கள். அவர்களே கடவுள்.!அவதாரங்கள்!” என்று பதில் கூறி பக்தர்களுக்கு இருந்த கொஞ்ச நஞ்ச சந்தேகத்தையும் தீர்த்து வைத்தார் பாபா.
ஒரு முறை ஜுரத்தினால் பாபா அவஸ்தைப்படுவதைப் பார்த்த பக்தர்கள் திகைத்தனர். விஷ்ணு சஹஸ்ரநாம புத்தகத்தைக் கொண்டு வரச் சொல்லி அதைத் தன் மார்பின் மீது பாபா வைத்துக் கொண்டார். சிறிது நேரத்தில் ஜூரம் போயிற்று. மஹாபாரதத்தில் இடம் பெறும் விஷ்ணுசஹஸ்ரநாம மஹிமையை உலகினருக்கு உணர்த்த அவர் செய்த அருள்விளையாடல் இது!
Sri Sai Baba’s Charters and Sayings என்ற நூலை பி.வி. நரசிம்ஹ ஸ்வாமி எழுதி 1944ஆம் ஆண்டு வெளியிட்டிருக்கிறார். அதில் பாபா கூறிய உபதேச உரைகளையும் அவர் வாழ்வில் நிகழ்ந்த அற்புதங்களையும் 609 சிறு பகுதிகளாகத் தந்துள்ளார். அது தவிர ஸாயி ஹரி கதா என்ற நான்கு பாகங்கள் கொண்ட புத்தகங்களையும் அவர் எழுதிப் பிரசுரித்துள்ளார். The Wondrous Saint Sri Sai Baba என்ற சிறு ஆங்கில நூலையும் அவ்ர் எழுதியுள்ளார். இந்த புத்தகத்திற்கு copyright உரிமை கிடையாது. யார் வேண்டுமானாலும் இதை எடுத்துக் கையாளலாம் என்று நூலில் குறிப்பிட்டிருப்பது அவரது பெருந்தன்மையையும் ஸாயி மீது அவர் கொண்டிருந்த அளப்பரிய பக்தியையும் காண்பிக்கிறது. ஸாயிபாபா தனது அவதார நோக்கத்தைத் தெளிவாகச் சொல்லி இருக்கிறார். தமது பூர்வ பக்தர்களாகிய பக்தர்களைக் காப்பாற்றுவதற்காகவே தான் இந்த தேகத்தை எடுத்ததாகவும் இந்த தேகத்தை விட்டாலும் கூட சூக்ஷ்ம ரூபியாக இருந்து அனைவரின் பிராத்தனையையும் ஏற்று அனுக்ரஹிக்கப்ப் போவதாகவும் அவர் அணுக்க பக்தர்களிடம் தெரிவித்தார். தனது தேகத்தை விடப் போவதாக அவர் தனது நெருங்கிய பக்தர்களிட்ம் அறிவித்தார். அதன்படி 1918 அக்டோபர் 15ஆம் தேதி விஜயதசமி தினத்தன்று ஏகாதசி ஆரம்பித்த பின்னர் தன் தேகத்தைத் துறந்தார். ஷீர்டியில் உள்ள அவரது சமாதியில் ஆயிரக்கணக்கான பக்தர்கள் இன்றும் அவரை வணங்கி அவரது அனுக்ரஹத்தைப் பெற்று வருவது கண்கூடு. மும்பையிலிருந்து ஷீர்டி 241 கிலோமீட்டர் தொலைவிலும், நாசிக்கிலிருந்து 88 கிலோ மீட்டர் தொலைவிலும், அவுரங்காபாத்திலிருந்து 109 கிலோமீட்டர் தொலைவிலும் புனேயிலிருந்து 187 கிலோமீட்டர் தொலைவிலும் அமைந்துள்ளது.
