POWER OF BRAHMINS IS GREATER THAN THE POWER OF RULERS: SANGAM TAMIL LITERATURE AND MAHABHARATA

The clash between the great two Vedic Rishis Vasishta and Viswamitra is a well known story. It established the supremacy of Brahmins. Both rishis/seers figure in the oldest book in the world- The Rig Veda (RV). People who are pure at heart and selfless are more powerful than the AK 47 wielding Clint Eastwoods!

This message is in both the Mahabharata, the longest epic in the world and Purananuru, the oldest anthology in 2000 year old Sangam Tamil literature.

First let us look at Mahabharata (Adi Parva, the first of the 18 Books in the Mahabharata):_

Once upon a time great king Viswamitra went out on a hunting expedition. When he and his retinue were tired, they visited the great saint Vasistha. His ashramam (House of Saints; hermitage) was in the middle of the forest. He had a beautiful cow named Nandini. It had the power of fulfilling anyone’s wishes like Kamadhenu.

Vasistha received him with great honour. He gave to Viswamitra precious jewels which were obtained from his wonder working cow Nandini. Viswamitra wondered how come this sage in the middle of the forest , could feed all his retinue and give him precious gifts. Vasishta explained that his holy cow can give anything he wished for. Viswamitra asked Vasishta to give him the cow in exchange for hundred million cows or even his kingdom. When Vasishta refused  to comply with his demand Viswamitra  threatened to use force. He dragged the cow and pushed it hither and thither, but she would not move. She became angry and in order to punish Viswamitra and his army, she created Pahlavas , Dravidas, Sakas,Yavanas , Kiratas and other tribes.  The words of the poet Vyasa are

Asrujat pahlavan, puchchath prasravath dravidaan, sakaan yonidevascha  yavanan sakrutah  savaraan bahuun.

Beholding this great miracle, the Bramanical might , Viswamitra  was humbled at the impotence of a Kshatria nature, and exclaimed

Dhig balam kshatriya balam brahma tejo balam, balam

Balabalam vinistritya tapa eva balam balam

Shame on a Kshatriya’s strength.  The strength of a Brahmins lustre is strength indeed. Determining what is strength and what is weakness, we see that, penance is the greatest strength.

This legend is found in Valmiki Ramayana as well .

Later Viswamitra  went for doing Tapas(penance), but failed in first two attempts because of ego and women (Trisanku Episode and Menaka episode). When he won at the third attempt, Vasishta himself called him “Hello Mr Brahmin” (Brahma Rishi). That has become a phrase in Hindusim equal to ‘From the horse’s mouth’ in English.

The power of penance is in Purananuru, oldest portion of 2000 year old Sangam Tamil literature and later moral book Tirukkural of Tiru Valluvar

Here is the verse from Purananuru:-

Vanmiki , similar to Valmiki, the Ramayana author, has penned the verse 358 in Purananuru. Though there are very interesting information in these seven lined verse, I will highlight only one point here. If you weigh the earth and the penance, penance is so big that earth will look like an iota. Earth means earthly life that is family life, but penance is far greater than the family life. Tamil poet Vanmiki use the Sanskrit word Tavam. Tapo in Sanskrit is tamilized Tavam (P=V). here we are concerned only about the greatness of penance. It is a repetition of  what is said in Mahabharat. True Brahmins are doing penance even when they are in family life. So the word Antanar is used for anyone who is inward looking, ie. God searching. Brahmin also meant the same, i.e. Brahmam seeking. So it is an echo of Mahabharata lines. Even a kshatriya like Viswamitra is called Brahmin when he competed his penance successfully.

Tiruvalluvar also elucidated the power of saints. If any one does any harm to a saint the empire will crumble like dust, he says.

“If those of rigorous penance become enraged, even Indra will crash from power and position” – Kural 899

Venthan is the Tamil word used in this couplet. It means King or Indra. Tolkaappiam used the word for Indra.

The next couplet emphasizes this point,

“Though possessed of great support, they who are exposed to the wrath of persons of exceeding penance will perish”- Kural 900.

Brahma tejo balam balam!!

UNDERSTANDING THE POTENTIAL POWER OF OUR SUBCONSCIOUS MIND

Every human being is having some inherent talent hidden within self. But many of us could neither identify it nor understand it. Those, who have discovered that skill, also, fail to use that at the right moment or at the right opportunity. Only a very few people on the earth get success in any work at any time. We lament that God is with them and not with us. We should not blame God or jealous of others, for our mistake. We should look into ourselves and try to understand the potential power of our subconscious mind.

Self – SWOT Analysis:

All the members of a family may consider a particular member of the same family, a boy or a girl as unfit for doing anything. This is not correct . Within every one of us there is some talent hiding. Every one of us should undertake a Self Analysis- We should analyze our Strengths- Weaknesses – Opportunities and Threats. Take a piece of paper and list all your strengths. Similarly list out all your Weaknesses. Ordinary people,  like us, find the Strength list small and lengthy list of weaknesses. Achievers will have it vice versa. Now think over your weaknesses. You have to convert your weaknesses into Strengths .Your strengths have to be fortified further. This will help you find Success in any situation by converting your failures into success.

Many of us wait for the Opportunity to come and knock at our doors. We think that we will utilise the opportunity at that time. Don’t wait for the opportunity to come and knock at your doors. Your waiting may become meaningless. Because, opportunity may never come or you may become too old to open the door .So try to create opportunities. Success will fall on your lap.

Next one is Threat. We are always under some threat. A businessman finds the threat from his competitor. When he fails to utilise an opportunity, that will be grabbed by his competitor. So prepare a list of all your SWOT and convert the weaknesses into strengths and Threats into Opportunities.

Conscious and Subconscious Mind :

God has given us Two Minds- Conscious and Subconscious. Conscious mind is external and rational. It can distinguish between good and bad things. It can differentiate deeds which will be praised and which will be condemned. But subconscious mind is not like that. It will be always awake whereas the conscious mind sleeps with the body and awakes with it. Your wife may follow 70 to 75 percentage of your advice and 25 to 30 percent she will take her own decision. Your children may follow your words to some more extent. But the subconscious mind obeys you totally ( 100 percent) .Saints of olden days have said “Think  good-Do Good and be assured that good things will follow & will  happen to you ”

Subconscious Mind is a fertile land:

Let us compare our subconscious mind with a fertile land. If you sow food grains in the land you will get them back manifold. If you sow some poisonous seeds that also you will get back manifold. Even if you don’t sow anything, some thorny bushes may come up in the barren land. Yes!. If you sow good thoughts in the subconscious mind it will get multiplied there and you will get a thick harvest. Good thoughts will bring you success in series.

Sky is the limit- Magic of Thinking Big !

“Life is based on your thoughts”, “As you think so will you live” are some of the adages that have shaped the lives of many successful people. They had created a mind picture of what they want to be. They had rehearsed the situation with themselves in their desired position many times. We should not underestimate anybody. For example, if a student wants to score good marks in the examination he/she should think that he/she should get 495/500 or 1190/1200 and plan their studies , work hard and get their desired objective fulfilled . If you want to become rich, you should aim to become a multi millionaire. We should have very high thoughts and goals and work towards achieving them. Our targets should not be mean. We may fall slightly short of our target. Even then, it will be a success story.

Suggestion and Auto-suggestion :

Suggestion is the act of imposing our desire, our dreams and our thoughts on others. It is an act of putting something into one’s mind. A mother or father tells his son / daughter to become a successful doctor / engineer etc. On receiving such suggestions from his/her parents , the boy/girl , thinks and creates an action plan to become a doctor /engineer by giving suggestion to himself/herself .This is called as auto suggestion.

Now we will see how to give auto suggestion to oneself. A child or adult of any age can practice this concept and achieve success in his / her life from now onwards. This is very simple & needs no money but a few minutes of time only.

  1. First one should identify his/her number one priority in life. Example:  to buy a new big independent house with all facilities in a good locality in your Town.
  2. To buy a deluxe AC car .
  3. To become a famous Doctor/Engineer/IAS officer in life.

As given above , identify a specific goal and before going to bed tonight, sit in a relaxed mood in your bed comfortably and switch off the light . Then observe your breath in & breath out for 30 seconds. If you do this your mind will become relaxed and will be able to accept any auto suggestion given to it by you. Then give auto suggestion to your sub conscious mind 20 to 25 times with full faith, in a focused manner and with a little loud voice so that you yourself will be able to hear that suggestion given to your sub conscious mind.

  1. I can, I can and I can achieve anything and everything in my life.
  2. I will succeed and will achieve this goal.
  3. I will be able to get 100/100 in all subjects in all the examinations.
  4. I will get 1190 / 1200 or 495 / 500 in the final examinations and  will come out as State First Student.

This has to be given as auto suggestion with full faith and  concentration . It will take less than 3 minutes to do this. In order to achieve success in your life one can spend 5 minutes both in the morning and also  in the night daily. Initially one may feel shy to say this loudly & even feel ashamed of doing this . But over a period of time this will become an easy & routine activity in our day to day life.  One has to start doing this before going to bed , since your sub conscious mind will not sleep , but will reverberate  with the auto suggestion given by you before going to bed. Similarly if you do this immediately after getting up from bed, the same will reverberate through out the day. This will increase the chances of getting yourself the desired result at the earliest.

To be continued……………………..

WHAT IS IN A NAME ? THEY ASK TO BELITTLE NAMES OR TO SHOW THE POWER IN A NAME.

 HERE ARE SOME STORIES:

Power of Rama Nama

The name of a man is the very essence of his power .

There are stories in the sacred books of Hinduism that give the name a power greater than that of its possessor.

1. Hanuman was building a bridge whereby he might cross to Sri Lanka by throwing into the sea stones on which he written the name of Rama so that they would not sink. Rama himself watched Hanuman with interest doing this and to test the power of a stone, threw one into the sea without writing his name on it, whereupon it sank at once. Then he turned to Hanuman for explanation of the failure of his stone to float and Hanuman replied that Rama’s name has more power than Rama himself.

Repetition of the name of a God puts pressure on the god and forces the grant of a request. Punya or merit is acquired by the mere uttering of sacred names.

2.There’s a story of Ramdas about a prostitute who taught her parrot to say and so won Punya for herself.

3.Ajamila from his death bed called his son and acquired Punya because he called his son’ whose name was Narayana . When he addressed his son’ name constantly, the messengers of Yama took him to heaven instead of hell.

4.Valmiki was a hunter in the forest. He acquired lot of Papa/sin by killing animals. He used to put one pebble in a pot every time one animal was killed. And he had seven pots full of pebbles. But all his papa was wiped out after he uttered Rama nama. Narada taught him the holy name of Rama. He wrote Ramayana in Sanskrit under the advice of Narada. Thus he became a famous and revered saint.

Hindus’ Ultra Modern Weapons!

Brahmos_imds

Written by London swaminathan

Research Article no. 1703; dated 9 March 2015

uploaded at 19-40 Monday London Time.

“Oh Dharba grass, you have the capacity to ward off death till long age. You are the best armour of all the armours in the world. Shielding the king with the self-same armour, kill the enemies with your strong powers.

“Oh Dharba! hundreds are your shields and thousands are the means of strength and power. All the learned scholars have given you to the king for protection till old age or for long life”– Atharva Veda Book 19, Hymn 30

“O Man, I (physician says) tie this Kuhsa grass, which is forceful, energising herb, with hundreds of reeds infallible, with thousands of leaves and far efficacious than other herbs, for lengthening your life span” – Hymn 31, Book 19

Brahmins believe in this efficacy of Kusha grass till this day. Their entire work is done with the Kusha/Dharba grass.

My opinion is that ancient Hindus channelized the energy through Dharba and Water. Great teachers like Drona and Kripa of Mahabharata knew about ultra-modern weapons which work with sound vibrations. Western Scientists are yet to invent such weapons. It is like cancer drugs with certain nuclear isotopes targeting only the bad cells, the Vibration weapons will target only the intended targets.

A23_M51_Pontoon_r13d

These mantra (Sound) weapons are taught only to Kings and selected people. Like nuclear bomb buttons have secret passwords which are known only to Prime Ministers and Presidents of countries these Ultra Modern Sound Weapons are taught only to the Kings. But like we use nuclear weapons very rarely, they also used it only when it was absolutely necessary. That is why commoner Ekalaiva was denied a place in the Royals class by Drona.

Dharba grass is like the modern delivery vehicles for nuclear war heads. Even when the Hindu kings were taught such most dangerous weapon techniques, they were forced to promise that they use it only once. That too if necessary. So far seven countries have made thousands of nuclear bombs, but only USA used it once in Hiroshima and Nagasaki in in Japan which killed millions of people.

Lord Rama also finished of seven million Kara Dushana demons like we kill the mosquitoes. Demons do not follow any code of conduct in wars. But the same Rama did not use it against Ravana who was ready for a decent fight. He was a great hero and he would not hit anyone below the belt. Ram was also great. When Ravana was disarmed in the battle field, Rama stopped fighting and asked Ravana to go home and come back the next day with full preparations (“Go Today and Come Tomorrow” — was the most famous quote in the Yuddha Kanda of Ramayana)

Like nuclear materials have good and bad uses, Dharba is also used in all the good ceremonies.

Power of Dharba Grass!

I posted my article on “Power of Holy Durva Grass” here on 12th July 2013. Now I give below some hymns highlighting the power of sacred Dharba grass. A Brahmin priest won’t leave the house without the sacred Dharba grass. It is his essential tool. It is neatly cut and preserved in its dry form. Hindus believe that that Dharba grass (also known as Kusha) can purify one just by wearing it in the ring finger. Hindu saints do penance or meditation sitting on the Dharba mat. Though Yogis or saints do such meditation sitting on deer skin or tiger skin, Dharba mats are easily available, less expensive and environment friendly.

Botanically it falls under the Graminae ( Poaceae or grass family ) family and it is known as Eragrostis cynosoroides. It is mentioned in all the four (Rig Veda 1-191-3)Vedas. Atharva Veda mentions it as an amulet.

During eclipse period, they put the grass in all the food items to save it from the bad rays. The following hymns show how much they valued it. As a Brahmin, I always keep it here in my London home. I use it during the ceremonies. Usually they make a ring like figure and wear it in the ring finger. It is called Pavitram. That means the dharba as well as Pure and holy in Sanskrit. The ring finger itself is called Pavitra finger.

Ghosts will run away!

Hanuman Chalisa of Goswami Tulsidas says that the ghosts will run away when the name of Hanuman is recited. In the same way

Bhuta Preta Pisasascha ye chanye Brahmarakshasaaha

Vipra anguli Kusaan drustwa duuram gachcha adhomukaaha

When the ghosts, ghouls, spirits and goblins see the Dharba worn in the Brahmins’ fingers, they go far away with their heads bowed down.

Another hymn says

Vajro Yathaa Surendrasya Suulam hastha Harasya cha

Chakraaydham Yathaa Vishno: evam vipra kare Kusha:

Like Vajra weapon for Indra, Sula weapon for Lord Shiva, Wheel weapon for Vishnu, Kusha grass weapon is for Brahmins. (Dharba grass is as powerful as Vajra, Sula and Chakra weapons)

If a Brahmin stands with a kusha and is without vain or not showy, he can destroy all the sins like dews driven away by the sun light. ( He can drive away the sins like the sunlight drives away the snow)

Another hymn praise “ even Shiva was cleared of sin by Kusha grass after killing a Brahmin” ( One of Brahma’s five heads was cut off by Shiva; actually  it is a symbolic story saying the four Vedas will be beneficial only when the ego is eliminated)

Anyone wearing gold or dharba in the fingers are considered pure even if their hands are not clean, says another couplet.

darbha02

Picture of Dharba Mat

Such is the greatness of Dharba (Kusha) grass in the Hindu scriptures. The use of water, sesame seeds, white rice in funeral ceremonies, yellow rice in auspicious ceremonies, Kusha grass, cow, its milk, daily bath and Abishek rituals, Asvamedha Yajna, Swayamvara, decimal system and the absence of all these things in the Western world explodes the Aryan –Dravidian Race theory. Actually all these put together with the six divisions of seasons, four divisions of armies, four values in life (Dharma Artha Kama Moksha)  in the oldest parts of Tamil literature, it bulldozes the Aryan Dravidian fake theory.

Long live Dharba Grass! Long Live Durva Grass!

Is Brahmastra a Nuclear Weapon? Written by me in South Indian Society Magazine in London in 2005 and posted here in this blog in 2011 is getting a lot of hits every day until today! Please read it if you have read it already.
