 Debate on Bharatiyar Books in Madras Assembly (Post No.13,998)

Subrahmanya Bharati was a man on whose tongue the Goddess Saraswati can honestly be believed to have danced the dance of patriotism. If he had been born in any free country, why in any country of the world except  India, the man would have been made the Poet Laureate of the country, would have been given honours and titles by a government which knows how to respond to the feelings of the people, and would have lived and died among the most honoured of the nation.

Late Satyamurthi was a great patriot and leader of the congress party in Madras. He was a fiery orator and contributed in no small measure to the cause of freedom in the south.

He was speaking on the no confidence motion against the then ministry headed by Raja of Panagal (year 1928). It was Satyamurthi’s maiden speech in the Madras Legislative Council. He championed the cause of the school children who were denied the inspiration of Bharathi’s songs.

Five years later in the same house , Satyamurthi returned to the theme when the police seized copies of Bharti’s songs. Speaking on an adjournment motion on the subject, Satyamurthi told the legislators about the literary genius of the fiery patriot Subramania Bharati.

Following are excerpts from the proceedings of the Madras Legislative Council (1928):

Mr President Sir, I beg leave to move the business of this House do stand adjourned to consider a matter of urgent public importance, namely, the resent action of City Police in entering upon and searching the premises of Hindi Prachar Sabha on the High Road, Triplicane, for copies of Bharati’s songs, and seizing nearly 2000 copies of the same.

…….. when I say that one wants no arguments to support vote of censure on the action of the Madras Government  in having acquiesced in or directed the City Police to seize what will remain, in spite of the Madras Government’s activities, so long as Tamil Language lasts or a single Tamilian exists, as the most priceless and patriotic songs in that great language.

Sir Late Subrahmanya Bharati was a man on whose tongue the Goddess Saraswati can honestly be believed to have danced the dance of patriotism. But, sir, being the slave country that we are, he had to live in exile in Pondicherry, enjoying the hospitality of the French Government, and die broken wreck, because he found no use for himself under the auspices of this Government. But, sir, martyrs and patriots before him have gone to the same fate. Subrahmanya Bharati lived and died a patriot. I wat to repeat, Mr President, that so long as the Tamil Language lasts you may confiscate , all the copies which exist, even as our sacred Vedas were handed down from generations to generation, for aeons, without a single piece of writing, by the memory of our ancient Hindu ancestors  I have no doubt , that so long as a single Tamilian lives, these songs will remain the priceless heritage of the Tamil race.

 காக்கைச் சிறகினிலே நந்தலாலா! பாரதியும் பரமஹம்சரும்!! (Post No.13,997)

பாரதியார் பற்றி பல நூறு  நூல்கள் வெளியாகிவிட்டன . பல்லாயிரம் கட்டுரைகள் அச்சிடப்பட்டுவிட்டன ; இன்னும் ஏதாவது எழுத இருக்கிறதா?

நிறைய இருக்கிறது; அவருடைய பாடல்களைப் படிக்கப் படிக்க தொட்டனைத்தூறும் மணற்கேணி போல புதிய கருத்துக்கள் சுரந்து கொண்டே இருக்கும்; அவரது பாடல்கள் அமுத சுரபி; அக்ஷய பாத்திரம்; அள்ள அள்ளக் குறையாதது; இந்தச் சின்னக் கட்டுரையில் ராமகிருஷ்ண பரமஹம்ஸரின் உபதேச மொழிகளை ஒப்பிட்டு, பாரதியார் ஒரு பெரிய அத்வைத வேதாந்தி என்பதையும் வணங்கத் தக்க யோகி, மஹான் என்பதையும் காண்போம்.

ராமகிருஷ்ண பரமஹம்சர் சொல்கிறார் :

“பக்தியைக் கண்களில் தீட்டும் மைக்கு ஒப்பிட்டிருக்கின்றனர்.

ராதை ஒரு சமயம், தோழிகளே நான் எனது கிருஷ்ணனை எல்லாவிடங்களிலும் காண்கின்றேன் என்றாள்.  அதற்கு கோபி ஸ்த்ரீகள் ராதா, நீ பக்தியாகிய அஞ்சனத்தைக் கண்ணில் இட்டுக்கொண்டிருக்கிறாய் . அதனால்தான் அப்படித் தோன்றுகிறது என்றார்கள் “.

இதை பாரதியாரின் காக்கைச் சிறகினிலே பாடலில் காண்கிறோம். பெரிய யோகிகளுக்கு, எந்த நிறத்தைக் கண்டாலும் அது இறைவனின் ஒரு அம்சத்தையே நினைவுபடுத்தும்

ஸ்ரீ கிருஷ்ண பாமாத்வை அணுகும்போதெல்லாம் ராதைக்கு அவருடைய திவ்ய மங்கள சரீரத்தினின்று மனோஹரமான வாசனை வந்தது; ஈஸ்வரனிடம் ஒருவன் நெருங்கும்போது  அருகில் செல்லச் செல்ல அவனிடமுள்ள பக்தி, பிரேமை அதிகரிக்கும், சமுத்திரத்தை அணுக அணுக நதியானது மென்மேலும் பொங்கி வழியும்; அதுபோன்றதே இந்த பிரேமை.

   நந்தலாலா — நின்றன்

கரியநிறந் தோன்றுதையே

பார்க்கும் மரங்களெல்லாம்

பச்சைநிறந் தோன்றுதையே

தீயும் கூட அவனுடைய ஒரு அம்சமே . இதனால்தான் யோகிகள் தீயில் புகுந்து இறைவனுடன் கலந்தார்கள்; சங்கப் புலவர் கபிலர், குமாரில பட்டர், சம்பந்தர், ஆண்டாள் , வள்ளலார் முதலிய பலர் ஜோதியில் கலந்தனர்.

(நந்த லாலா = பால கிருஷ்ணன் = குழந்தை வடிவ கண்ணன்)

பார்க்கும் மரங்களெல்லாம்

   நந்தலாலா — நின்றன்

பச்சைநிறந் தோன்றுதையே

   நந்தலாலா;

பசுமையான மரங்களைப் பார்த்தாலும் அவன் நினைவே வருகிறது. பரமஹம்சர் ஒருநாள் வங்காளத்தில் கண்ணைப் பறிக்கும் பசுமை மிகுந்த வயல் வழியாக நடந்து சென்றார் ; அப்போது வானத்தில் கருமேகங்கள் சூழ்ந்து நின்றன. அந்தப் பின்னணியில் வெள்ளை  நிறக் கொக்குகள் பறந்து சென்றன; அதைப் பார்த்தவுடன் பரமஹம்ஸருக்குப் பேரானந்தம் பொங்கியது; அப்படியே இறைவனை எண்ணி சமாதி நிலைக்குச் சென்றுவிட்டார். பின்னர் நண்பர்களும் உறவினர்களும் அவரைத் தூக்கி வந்து வீட்டில் படுக்கவைத்தனர். சமாதி கலைய சில நாட்கள் ஆயிற்று.

இதுதான்  யோகிகளுக்கும் நமக்கும் உள்ள வேறுபாடு. நாம் இயறகையை ரசித்துவிட்டு வந்துவிடுவோம்; மஹான்களுக்கு அது கடவுளை அறிந்து கொள்ளும்  பாதையாக அமைகிறது.

பாரதியார் வாழ்விலும் இதைக் காண்கிறோம். வீட்டில் சோறு சமைக்க அரிசி இல்லையே என்று அவருடைய மனையில் பக்கத்து வீட்டில் கடன் வாங்கி வந்த நெல்லையும் அரிசியையும் அவர் குருவிகளுக்குப் போட்டுவிட்டு பேரானந்தம் அடைந்தார்.

காக்கை குருவி எங்கள் ஜாதி நீள் கடலும் மலையும் எங்கள் கூட்டம் என்று பாடி சொந்தம் கொண்டாடிய மஹாபுருஷன் பாரதி.

பாரதியார் ஒரு சித்தர்  என்பதை அவரே பாட்டில் பாடியும் இருக்கிறார் பிரம்மத்தைக் கண்டுவிட்டால் அவர்கள் 21 நாட்கள் மட்டுமே உயிர் வாழ முடியும். ஒரு சில யோகிகள் மட்டும் மற்றவர்களையும் அழைத்துச் செல்வதற்காக பிரம்மானந்த கடலில் மூழ்காமல் திரும்பிவந்து சேரவாறும் ஜெகத்தீரே என்று கூவி அழைக்கிறார்கள் என்று பரமஹம்சர் பேசியிருக்கிறார்.  பாரதியாரும் ஒரு மாதம் நோய்வாய்ப்பட்டு இருந்த போது மருந்து சாப்பிட மறுத்துவிட்டு இறைவனுடன் கலந்தார்

சைதன்யர் வாழ்வில் நடந்த ஒரு சம்பவத்தையும் பரம ஹம்சர் கூறுகிறார்; சைதன்ய மஹாப் பிரபு ஒரு கிராமத்தின் வழியே, கிருஷ்ணனின் பெருமையைப் பாடிக்கொண்டு, செல்கையில் அவர்கள் பஜனைகளில் வாசிக்கும் தோல் கருவிகளை, மத்தளங்களை இந்தக் கிராமத்து மக்களே தயாரித்து அனுப்புகிறார்கள் என்று அடியார்கள் கூறியதைக் கேட்டவுடன் ஆனந்தக் கடலில் முழ்கி சமாதி நிலையை அடைந்துவிட்டார்.

பரமஹம்சர் தன்னைப்பற்றியும் இப்படிக் கூறுகிறார் :

“நான் எவ்விதம் காண்கிறேன் என்பது உங்களுக்குத் தெரியுமா ? இந்த மரங்கள், செடிகள், மனிதர்கள், புல், பூண்டுகள் முதலிய எல்லா வஸ்துக்களும் தலையணை உறைகள் போல எனக்குத் தோன்றுகின்றன.. சில  தலையணைகள் மிருதுவாகவும் இன்னும் சில கடினமாகவும், பல வடிவங்களிலும் இருக்கின்றன; என்றாலும் அவைகள் அனைத்தின் உள்ளேயும் ஒரே பஞ்சுதான் இருக்கிறது அது போல உலகத்திலுள்ள பொருள்கள் எல்லாவற்றின் உள்ளேயும் அகண்ட சச்சிதானந்தப் பொருளே இருக்கிறது.  ஜகதாம்பிகையே  பல போர்வைகளால் தன்னை மூடிக்கொண்டு அதற்குள்ளிருந்து எட்டிப்பார்ப்பது போல எனக்குத் தோன்றுகிறது”

   நந்தலாலா — பாடலைப் படித்தால் பாரதி எவ்வளவு பெரிய வேதாந்தி ,அத்வைத அறிஞர் என்பது தெள்ளிதின் விளங்கும். துதிப் பாடல்களைப் படிப்பது போல அவரது தத்துவப் பாடல்களைப் படிக்கப் படிக்க நமக்கும் ஞானம் பெருகும்.

தெய்வீக அருள் பெற்ற மகாகவி!

பராசக்தியையே வாழ்நாள் முழுவதும் நாள்தோறும் தொழுது வாழ்ந்த மகாகவி பாரதியாருக்கு அவளது அருள் பரிபூரணமாக இருந்தது. அவர் ஒரு தெய்வீகக் கவிஞர் என்பதை நிரூபிக்கும் சம்பவங்கள் ஏராளம் உண்டு. எடுத்துக்காட்டாக இரு சம்பவங்களை இங்கு பார்ப்போம்.

புதுவையில் ஒரு தீபாவளி தினத்தன்று நடந்த சம்பவத்தை பாரதியாரின் புதல்வி சகுந்தலா பாரதி ‘என் தந்தை’ என்ற தனது நூலில் குறிப்பிடுகிறார்.

தீபாவளிக்கு முதல் நாள் ஜவுளிக்கடை வைத்திருந்த ஒரு நண்பர் பாரதியாருக்கு வழக்கம் போல், வேஷ்டி, சகுந்தலா பாரதிக்கு பாவாடை, சட்டை பாரதியாரின் மனைவிக்கு புடவை ஆகியவற்றை இனாமாக அனுப்பி வைத்தார். அன்பில் சிறந்த சீடர்கள்  பட்டாஸ், மத்தாப்பு உள்ளிட்டவற்றை அளவுக்கு அதிகமாகவே தந்தனர். பூ, , வெற்றிலை, பாக்கு, பழங்கள் வேறு வந்து சேர்ந்தன.

ஆனால் பாரதியார் மட்டும் கவலையுடன் இரவில் விழித்திருந்தார்.

நடுநிசி.  இரு நண்பர்கள் வீட்டுக் கதவைத் தட்டினர். பாரதியார் சென்று கதவைத் திறந்தார்.

அந்த அன்பர்களில் ஒருவர் ஒரணாவும் இரண்டனாவும் உள்ள பணச்சுருளை பாரதியாரின் காலில் வைத்து வணங்கினார். பாரதியார் வியப்புடன், “நான் பணம் வேண்டுமென்று யாரிடமும் சொல்லவில்லையே” என்றார்.

வந்தவர்கள் பணக்காரர்கள் அல்ல. சாதாரணமான குடும்பத்தைச் சேர்ந்த துணி நெய்யும் தொழிலாளிகள்.

அதற்கு வந்தவர்களில் ஒருவர் பதிலளித்தார்.

அவர் தூங்க முனைந்த போது அவரது கனவில் காளி தோன்றி, ‘என் பகதன் பாரதி நாளை காலையில் தன்னைக் காண வரும் ஏவலர், தொழிலாளிகள், நண்பர்களுக்குப் பரிசளிக்க கையில் காசில்லாமல் நொந்து மனம் வருந்துகிறான்.  உடனெ உன் கையிலுள்ள பணத்தைச் சில்லரைகளாக மாற்றி அவனிடம் சென்று கொடு” என்று சொன்னாள். அவர் உடனே எழுந்து பணத்தைச் சில்லரையாக மாற்றி நண்பர் ஒருவரையும் கூட அழைத்து வந்ததாகக் கூறினார்.

பராசக்தி அருளினால் அந்த தீபாவளி கோலாகலமாக திருப்தியுடன் கொண்டாடப்பட்டது.

இன்னொரு நிகழ்ச்சியையும் சகுந்தலா பாரதி குறிப்பிடுகிறார்.

பொன்னுமுருகேசம் பிள்ளை என்பவர் புதுவையில் பாரதியாரின் நல்ல நண்பர்களில் ஒருவர்.

அவரது முத்த மகன் ராஜாபாதர் என்பவர் மேல் படிப்புக்காக பிரான்சுக்குச் சென்றார். படிப்பு முடிக்கும் தருவாயில் யுத்தம் ஆரம்பமானது. யுத்தத்தில் அவர் ஈடுபட வேண்டியதாயிற்று. முருகேசம் பிள்ளை மனம் நொந்தார். ஒரு வழியாக விடுமுறையைப் பெற்ற ராஜாபாதர் நோய்வாய்ப்பட்டிருந்த தன் தந்தையைக் காணக் கிளம்பினார். ஆவலுடன் அவர் வருகையை எதிர்பார்த்துக் காத்திருந்த முருகேசம் பிள்ளைக்கு ராஜாபாதர் வந்த கப்பல் உடைந்து விட்டதாகச் செய்தி வந்தது.

துடிதுடித்துப் போனார் முருகேசம் பிள்ளை.

எல்லோரும், ‘உங்கள் பிள்ளைக்கு ஒன்றும் ஆகாது’ என்று ஆறுதல் கூறினார்கள். ஆனால் அவரோ இதை பாரதி சொன்னால் தான் நான் நம்புவேன் என்று கூறினார்.

பாரதியாருக்கு தர்மசங்கடமாகி விட்டது.

அவர் முருகேசம் பிள்ளையிடம், “நம் ராஜாபாதருக்கு ஒரு கெடுதலும் நேராது. ஆதற்கு நான் ஜவாப்தாரி” என்று கூறி அவருக்கு அறுதல் அளித்தார்.

ஆனாலும் நரம்புத்தளர்ச்சியால் பாதிக்கப்பட்ட முருகேசம் பிள்ளை சில நாட்களில் உயிர் துறந்தார்.

ஆனால் பாரதியார் வாக்கு பொய்க்கவில்லை. கப்பல் உடைந்த போதிலும் அதிலிருந்து தப்பித்துச் சில நாட்களில் ராஜாபாதர் புதுவைக்கு உயிருடன் வந்தார். அவரது தாயார் மனம் மிக மகிழ்ந்தார்.

நம்பினோர் கெடுவதில்லை இது நான்கு மறைத் தீர்ப்பு என்பது பாரதியாரின் வாக்கு.

அது பொய்க்கவில்லை.

குவளைக் கண்ணன் என்னும் குவளை கிருஷ்ணமாச்சாரியார் பாரதியாரின் சிறந்த சீடர்களுள் ஒருவர்.

அவரிடம் ஒருமுறை பாரதியார், “நாம் இன்னும் நானூறு வருடங்களுக்குப் பின்னாலே தோன்ற வேண்டியவர்கள். முன்னாலேயே தோன்றி விட்டோம். என்ன செய்வது?” என்று கூறினார்.

ஒரு சமயம் குவளைக் கண்ணன், “மகான்கள் தீர்க்காயுள் இல்லாமல் போய்விடுகிறார்களே ஏன்?” என்று பாரதியாரைக் கேட்ட போது பாரதியார் கூறினார்: “மகான்கள் பூலோகத்திற்கு தேவதூதர்கள். ஜனோபகாரார்த்தமாக அவர்கள் உதிக்கிறார்கள். பூலோகத்தில் அவர்கள் உதித்த காரியம் ஆனதும் இவ்வுலகில்  நிற்கமாட்டார்கள். மறைந்து விடுவார்கள்” என்றார். அவர் வாக்கு அவர் விஷயத்திலும் பொய்க்கவில்லை.

அவர் தயாரித்த சம்ஸ்க்ருத அகராதி மிகப்பெரியது; அதில் நிறைய மேற்கோள்களையும் கொடுத்துள்ளார். ஜெர்மன் மொழியில் வெளியானது; பின்னர் ஆங்கிலத்திலும் வெளியானது. அதில் பல பிழைகள் இருந்ததால் அவரே  திருத்திய பதிப்புகளையும் வெளியிட்டார். Otto von Böhtlingk 1815-1904 ஆட்டோ வான் போத்லிங்க் ரஷ்யாவில் பிறந்த ஜெர்மானிய சம்ஸ்க்ருத அறிஞர் ; இவருக்கு சம்ஸ்க்ருதம், ரஷ்யன், ஜெர்மன், அராபிய பாரசீக மொழிகளும் தெரியும்

அவர் செய்த இன்னுமொரு குறிப்பிடத்தக்க பணி, பாணினியின் சம்ஸ்க்ருத இலக்கண நூலை வியாக்கியானங்களுடன் வெளியிட்டதாகும்.

ரஷ்யாவில் பிறந்தாலும் குடும்பத்தின் பின்னணி காரணமாக ஜெர்மன் குடிமகன் ஆனார்.  செயின்ட்  பீட்டர்ஸ்பர்க் நகரிலேயே ஜெர்மன் பள்ளியில் சேர்ந்து படித்தார்  பின்னர் பான் , பெர்லின் நகர்களுக்கு வந்து சம்ஸ்க்ருதம் கற்றார் . பாப் மற்றும் வான் ஸ்லேகல் ஆகியோர் சம கால அறிஞர்கள் ஆவர்.

அவர் பல நிறுவ னங்களில் (Royal Academy of Sciences) உறுப்பினராக நியமிக்கப்பட்டாலும் எந்தப் பணியினையும் ஏற்காமல் முழு நேரத்தையும் ஆராய்ச்சியிலும் எழுத்திலும் செலவிட்டார் ஜெர்மனியிலுள்ள ஜேனா, லெய்ப்சிக் நகரங்களுக்கும் சென்று பணிகளைத் தொடர்ந்தார் மரணப்படுக்கையில் இருந்த போதும் இந்து மத வேதம் பற்றி கட்டுரை எழுதினார்; அவர் 1-4-1904-ல் இறந்தார்.

பாணினியின் அஷ்டாத்யாயீ நூலை இந்திய அறிஞர்களின் பாஷ்யங்களுடன் முதலில் ஜெர்மன் மொழியில் வெளியிட்டார். பின்னர் அதற்கான அறிமுகம் , விளக்கங்களை எழுதினார் . ஜெர்மன் மொழியிலேயே விளக்கங்களை எழுதிச் சேர்த்தார்  தாது பாடம், பாணினியின் சொற்கள் இண்டெக்ஸ் ஆகியனவும் பின்னர் சேர்க்கப்பட்டன. சம்ஸ்க்ருதம் பயிலுவோருக்கு இது உதவியாய் இருந்தது

13-ஆம் நூற்றாண்டில் வாழ்ந்த வோபதேவரின் முக்தபோதா என்ற இலக்கண நூலினையும் போத்லிங்க் வெளியிட்டார்.

நிறைய கட்டுரைகளையும் எழுதி பாணினீயத்தை விளக்கினார். சைபீரிய மொழிகள் பற்றியும் எழுதினார்.

காளிதாசரின் சாகுந்தலத்தையும் சூத்ரகரின் மிருச்சகக்கடிகத்தையும் எடிட் செய்து வெளியிட்டார் .

·         Vopadevas Grammatik (Saint Petersburg, 1847)

·         Über die Sprache der Jakuten (Saint Petersburg, 1851)

·         Indische Sprüche, a series of Sanskrit apothegms and proverbial verses (2nd ed. in 3 parts, Saint Petersburg, 1870–1873, to which an index was published by Blau, Leipzig, 1893)

·         a critical examination and translation of the Chandogya Upanishad (Saint Petersburg, 1889)

·         a translation of the Brihadaranyaka Upanishad (Saint Petersburg, 1889)

Sanskrit-German dictionary, Sanskrit-Wörterbuch (7 vols., Saint Petersburg, 1853–1875; shortened ed. (without citations) 7 vols, Saint Petersburg, 1879–1889), which with the assistance of his two friends, Rudolf Roth (d. 1895) and Albrecht Weber (b. 1825), was completed in 23 years.

He also published several smaller treatises, notably one on Vedic accent, Über den Accent im Sanskrit (1843).

வேதத்திலுள்ள உச்சரிப்பு முறைகளை விளக்கி முதல் முதலில் ஜெர்மன் மொழியில் எழுதிய பெருமையும்  இவருக்குண்டு.

ராமாயணத்தில் வரங்கள் (22) சரபங்க மஹரிஷியும் ஶ்ரீ ராமரும் பரஸ்பரம் பேசியது!

ஆரண்ய காண்டத்தில் ஐந்தாவது ஸர்க்கமாக அமையும் ‘ சரபங்கர் அக்னிப் பிரவேசம் செய்வது” என்ற ஸர்க்கத்தில் சரபங்கர் ராமரிடம் அனைத்தையும் அர்ப்பணிப்பதைச் சென்ற அத்தியாயத்தில் பார்த்தோம்.

சரபங்கரின் அர்ப்பணிப்பை அவர் ஶ்ரீ ராமரிடம் இவ்விதம் கூறுகிறார்:

அக்ஷயா நரசார்தூல மயா லோகா ஜிதாச்சுபா:

ப்ராஹ்மத்யாச்ச நாகப்ருஷ்டத்யாச்ச ப்ரதிக்ருஹ்னீஸ்வ மாமகான்\ ||

நரசார்தூல – புருஷோத்தமனே

மயா – என்னால்

சுபா: – புண்ணியமானவைகளும்

அக்ஷயா – அழிவற்றவைகளும்

ப்ராஹ்மத்யாச்ச – பிரம்மனைச் சேர்ந்தவைகளும்

நாகப்ருஷ்டத்யாச்ச – மேல் உலகைச் சேர்ந்தவைகளுமான

லோகா: – உலகங்கள்

ஜிதா: – (என்னால்) சம்பாதிக்கப்பட்டிருக்கின்றன

மாமகான் ச – என்னுடைய எல்லாவற்றையும்

ப்ரதி க்ருஹ்னீஷ்வ  – நீ ஏற்றுக்கொள்

–    ஆரண்ய காண்டம் 5-ம் ஸர்க்கம், ஸ்லோக எண் 28

இப்படி சரபங்கர் சொல்ல ஶ்ரீ ராமர் பின்வருமாறு பதில் சொல்கிறார்:

அஹமேவாஹரிஷ்யாமி சர்வான் லோகான்மஹாமுனே |

ஆவாஸம் த்வஹமிச்சாமி ப்ரதிஷ்டமிஹ கான்னே ||

மஹாமுனே – மா முனிவரே

அஹம் ஏவ – நானே

லோகான் – உலகங்கள்

சர்வான் – எல்லாவற்றையும்

ஆஹரிஷ்யாமி – ஸ்வீகரிக்கிறேன்

அஹம் – நான்

இஹ – இப்போது

கான்னே ப்ரதிஷ்டம் – காட்டில் குறிப்பிட்டு காட்டப்பட்டதான

ஆவாஸம் து – ஒரு இருப்பிடத்தை மட்டும் காட்டுமாறு

இச்சாமி – வேண்டுகின்றேன்

–    ஆரண்ய காண்டம் 5-ம் ஸர்க்கம், ஸ்லோக எண் 30̀̀

உடனே சரபங்கர் அவரை சுதீக்ஷ்ண ரிஷியைச் சென்று காணுமாறு கூறுகிறார்.

பின்னர் அக்னியை வளர்த்து அதில் புகுந்து தன் உடலை நீத்து தேஜோ மயமாக விளங்கி பிரம்மலோகத்தை அடைகிறார்.

இங்கு சரபங்கரின் கூற்றை ஶ்ரீ ராமர் எற்றுக் கொண்டதையும் அவர் கேட்டதற்கு இணங்க சுதீஷ்ணரின் ஆசிரமத்திற்குச் செல்லுமாறு சரபங்கர் கூறியதையும் காண்கிறோம்.

Sri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa is teaching us spiritual truths through dogs and cats. Let us look at some doggy and catty matters.

A disciple once asked Sri Ramakrishna how he was to conquer lust; for, though he was passing his days in religious contemplation, evil thoughts were arising in his mind from time to time. To him the Master said : “There was a man who had a pet dog. He used to caress it, carry it in about his arms, play with it and kiss it. A wise man, seeing this foolish behaviour of his, warned him not to lavish such affection on a dog. For it was, after all, an irrational brute, and might bite him one day. The owner took the warning to heart and putting away the dog from his arms, resolved never again to fondle or caress it. But the animal could not at first understand the change in his master and would run to him frequently to be taken up and caressed. Beaten several times, the dog at last ceased to trouble his master anymore. Such indeed is your condition. The dog that you have been cherishing so long in your bosom will not easily leave you, though you may wish to be rid of it. However, there is no harm in it. Do not caress the dog anymore but give it a good beating whenever it approaches you to be fondled, and in course of time you will be altogether free from its importunities.’

The cat catches her kitten with her teeth, and they are not hurt; but when a mouse is so caught, it dies. Thus, Maya never kills the devotee, though it destroys others.

The young of a monkey cling to its mother tightly, when she moves about. The kitten on the other hand does not do so but mews piteously, and the mother grasps it by the neck. If the young of the monkey lets go its hold of its mother, it falls and gets hurt. This is because it relies upon its own strength.  But the kitten runs no such risk, as the mother herself carries it about from place to place. Such is the difference between self-reliance and entire resignation to the will of God.

Again Sri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa used the cat and monkey illustration and said the following:

Similarly, the aspirant who follows the path of Knowledge or path of selfless work depends upon his own effort to attain salvation. On the other hand, the aspirant who follows the path of Love knows that the Lord  is the disposer of everything; so with perfect confidence he resigns himself entirely to His mercy. The former is like the young of a monkey and latter like the kitten.
