HALF A CENTURY HABITS DIE HARD
Gopalji alias Rama Gopalan of RSS was Tamil Nadu Pranta Pracharak at the time. Whenever he came to Madurai he always stayed with us. Watching him doing Gayatri mantra 1008 times at 4 am everyday, we also started doing it. But I returned to normal Sandhyavandhanam (Thrice a day ritual of Brahmins) after one or two years. Only my youngest brother continued it.
We were all possessed by RSS ghost/spirits from the day Dr Usharbudh, of the Department of Sanskrit in Minnesota University, USA spoke in Madurai. He gave an inspiring talk about Vedas. (Later he became a Sanyasi with the name Veda Bharati and attained Samadhi in 2015) There Shivram Jogelekar RSS Pracharak of Madurai region met us (brothers) and introduced RSS to us. It was sometime in 1967. From that day we attended Shakas and I became Jilla Karayavah (Madurai District Secretary of RSS). I held that post until December 31 1986. When I boarded plane for London on First January 1987, I was given only a six month assignment with the BBC Tamil service. But later BBC extended my contact and I had to stay for longer. Occasionally I attended Hindu Swayamsevak Sang (Sang) meetings in London.

BBC SENT ME AND ANOTHER PERSON FROM HINDI SERVICE TO BATH, ANOTHE CITY, FOR REPORTING BRITISH ELCTION CAMPAIGN. WE FOLLOWED THREE CANDIADTES FROM THREE DIFFERENT POLITICAL PARTIES AND SENT REPORTS
My over enthusiasm was dampened by rain.
Once I heard that there is a Pro India Demonstration in front of High Commission of India to counter Pakistani Pro Kashmir demo. I went there during winter period and it became dark at 4 pm . There was rain with gusty wind. There was a big police force to maintain security. To my surprise, there were under 10 people including me. Three or four young girls came with oil lamps and struggled hard to keep it burning; but in the gale force wind it did not survive. My enthusiasm was really dampened.
After Vairamuthu’s criticism of Andal, woman Vaishnavite saint, Vaishnavite Tamils organised a Pro Andal demo in front of High Commission in London. Only 30 ++ people turned, and I was the only Non -Vaishnavite there!! I am writing this with a purpose.

I say ‘MY LIFE IS A LESSON (to me)’
In Tamil there is a proverb ‘You cant straighten the tail of a dog’ . Vaishnavites can never be changed. They would come only when their institutions are attacked. They cant understanda wider Hindu Concept. Even during Durga Puja last month, the Bangladeshi Muslims attacked ISKCON temples. Then they demonstrated in740 ISKCON temples in 170 countries. Other Hindu gods are alien to them. They never come out to give any support. This is another lesson I learnt. Uniting Hindus under one flag is very difficult!
Hindu Forum of Britain has launched a big campaign asking all Hindus to say when the Census Officer is knocking at your door. The stupid Hindus answer the question what is your religion? With I am an Iskcon member, I am a Swaminarayan sect member, I worship only Shiva etc

But Individuals can do a lot.
Once I saw an advertisement in Metro Newspaper in London. It is a free newspaper available in every underground station in London. It said Yoga cant cure your head ache, but our XXX tablet can cure head ache etc. I took the cutting and made a complaint to the newspaper. They apologised for allowing such an ADVT. They advised me that I could complain to the ombudsman if I wanted to take the issue any further. I did complain. They forced the company to send me an apology with the promise of not repeating it in future. The lesson is ‘individuals can change the society’.
Very recently Wolverhampton University in England organised a Caste seminar projecting Anti Hindu E V Ramaswami Naicker as a fighter against casteism. The fact of the matter is he was against only Brahmin caste and all the castes are demanding more and more concessions. But I and my friends objected to it in writing.
I have been a stamp collector for over 60 years. I used to buy the stamps on the date of its issue in Britain. Once I bought the Christmas stamps for that year. I was surprised a woman with Tilak/Bhindi in one of the stamps. This was Christian tactics to attract Hindus into their fold. I wrote to Royal Mail immediately and they apologised to me but told me that they could not with draw them. Immediately I called Ramesh Kallidai, a Tamil who was leading Hindu Forum of Britain at that time. He convened a press conference and conveyed our views. All the Newspapers gave us huge publicity. I wrote to stamp magazines, and they published my letter in the first page.
The lesson is Individuals should not remind silent when something happens to our religion. Newspapers in Britain boasted that Britain is also issuing plastic currency notes. In the printing process animal fat, particularly from cows, was used. Immediately we objected to it. They told us that from 20 pounds currency notes onwards, no animal fat will be used.
Moral- When you see an injustice don’t remain idle.

Literary and Cultural Association and IIaingnar Narpani Mandram
Before joining RSS, we, brothers and friends, were running an organisation called Literary and Cultural Association (LCA). Every now and then we invited Tamil Scholars to give talks. When there was none available, we used to conduct Toast Masters Club, where everyone is forced to speak for two minutes on a surprise topic. In short, we were never idle.
Even when Mrs Indira Gandhi banned RSS during 1975 Emergency , we launched a new outfit under the banner IIaingnar Narpani Mandram and went to Tiruppalai village near Madurai to do weekly Free Medical Camp. Villagers from surrounding places used our service and medicine. We did monthly Bhajan and L Ganesan (then RSS Pracharak and now Governor of Manipur) was the main singer. During weekly medical camps at Thiruppalai Village we used to cycle 12 miles singing RSS songs.
During the launch of Vivekananda Rock Memorial in Kanyakumari, we allotted one State every month for the viewing. So people from different states of India went to Kanyakumari via Madurai all through the year. With RSS District Pracharak Shivram Jogelekar and his assistant Krishnamurthy, another young pracharak, we welcomed bus load of people every night and served them. Aat 2 am or 3 am we go to bed and return again in the morning. Life was so busy.
During donation campaign, we went to all the educational institutions and government offices and sold One Rupee Ticket. The idea is every citizen of India must be part of Swami Vivekananda Memorial. Now Ram Janma Bhumi Trust is doing the same.
In the next part I will write WHY LONDON SWAMINATHAN WENT TO JAIL.
I vaguely, very vaguely, remember that a Dumb Astrologer who came to my house wrote something about me going to jail. I was scared to read it. But that came true!!!

From 13th October 2013 until 13th September 2017 , I wrote four articles about the Universal Prayers in the Vedas. Even before the Charter of the League of Nations said it, even before the Charter of the United Nations Organisation said it, Hindus said it !!!!
Said what?

Some days back, after completing reading 10,552 mantras in the 1028 hymns of the Rig Veda, I entered into the Ocean of Atharva Veda.
Oh my God! Surprise! Surprise!
There I found another Universal Anthem.
All these are said and sung by our Rishis/ Seers thousands of years ago!
Even the half baked ‘scholars’ of the Western World date the Atharva Veda 1000 BCE and Rig Veda 2000 BCE. But the world’s greatest writer, greatest compiler Veda Vyasa who did an amazing feat of bringing all the 20,000 mantras together in the Four Vedas in four books say that he did it before 3102 BCE. So Hindus believe that he existed 5150 years before our time and he spread the Vedas from his days.
Hindus praise him as another Avatar of Vishnu and all sects of Hindus accept him as Guru and celebrate Vyasa Purnima as Guru Purnima in July every year. He was such an amazing organiser, selected four of his best students, and entrusted the work of spreading the Vedas by word of mouth. Another great wonder!
All the 20,000 mantras are spread by word of mouth in veda pata salas (Vedic Schools) and Shankara Mutts. His other great feat of writing 200,000 lines in Mahabharata including Bhagavad Gita’s 1400 lines is known to everybody. What an amazing brain!

Just read these prayers. Then you will agree with me that the Vedas must be protected, Vedas must be recited, and Vedic priests must be saluted and honoured.

FROM ATHARVA VEDA:-
FOLLOWING IN GRIFFITH’S TRANSLATION(AV canto/book 3, hymn 30)
Freedom from hate I bring to you, concord and unanimity. Love one another as the cow loveth the calf that she hath borne.
2.One-minded with his mother let the son be loyal to his sire. Let the wife, calm and gentle, speak words sweet as honey to her lord.
3.No brother hate his brother, no sister to sister be unkind. Unanimous, with one intent, speak ye your speech in friend- liness.
4.That spell through which Gods sever not, nor ever bear each other hate, That spell we lay upon your home, a bond of union for the men.
5.Intelligent, submissive, rest united, friendly and kind, bearing the yoke together. Come, speaking sweetly each one to the other. I make you one- intentioned and one-minded.
6.Let what you drink, your share of food be common together, with one common bond I bid you. Serve Agni, gathered round him like the spokes about the chariot nave.
7.With binding charm I make you all united, obeying one sole leader and one-minded. Even as the Gods who watch and guard the Amrita, at morn and eve may ye be kindly-hearted.

FOLLOWING IN MUIR’S TRANSLATION (AV canto/book 3, hymn 30)
1. Like-heartedness, like-mindedness, non-hostility do I make for you; do ye show affection the one toward the other, as the inviolable [cow] toward her calf when born.
2. Be the son submissive to the father, like-minded with the mother; let the wife to the husband speak words full of honey.
3. Let not brother hate brother, nor sister sister; becoming accordant , of like courses, speak ye words auspiciously
4. That incantation in virtue of which the gods do not go apart, nor hate one another mutually, we perform in your house, concord for [your] men
5. Having superiors (jyā́yasvant), intentful, be ye not divided, accomplishing together, moving on with joint labor (sádhura); come hither speaking what is agreeable one to another; I make you united (sadhrīcī́na), like-minded.
6. Your drinking (prapā́) [be] the same, in common your share of food; in the same harness (yóktra) do I join ⌊yuj⌋ you together; worship ye Agni united, like spokes about a nave.
7. United, like-minded I make you, of one bunch, all of you, by [my] conciliation; [be] like the gods defending immortality (amṛ́ta); late and early be well-willing yours.
WHAT A GENIUS VYASA WAS! THE WHOLE GIST OF RIGVEDA WAS GIVEN IN THE ABOVE FEW LINES!
LET US SALUTE VEDA VYASA ONE BILLION TIMES!
Kanchi Paramacharya has beautifully summarised the Vedas in his Maitrim Bhajata song, sung at the United Nations by M S Subbulakshmi, that reverberated in the sky, land and ocean on that day, still echoing through the caves and mountain peaks of the Himalayas.

அன்பார்ந்த தமிழ் நெஞ்சங்களே, சந்தானம் நாகராஜன் வணக்கம். நமஸ்காரம்!
தமிழ்க் கவிஞர்களுள் தனிப் பெருமை வாய்ந்த மாபெரும் கவிஞராகத் திகழ்பவர் சேக்கிழார் பெருமான். பல கவிஞர்களும் இறைவனைப் பாடித் தொழுது பக்தி இலக்கியத்தை வளர்த்த நாளில் அடியார்க்கு அடியானாக தொண்டர் தம் பெருமை சொல்லவும் பெரிதே என்பதை உணர்ந்து 63 நாயன்மார்களின் வரலாறை அற்புதமாகச் செந்தமிழில் திருத்தொண்டர் புராணம் என்ற நூலைச் சுவை படப் பாடிப் படைத்துள்ளார் சேக்கிழார். திருத்தொண்டர் புராணம் என்று பெயரைக் கொண்டிருந்த போதும் பல்வேறு பெருமைகளைக் கொண்டதால் இது வழக்கில் பெரிய புராணம் என்றே வழங்கப்படலாயிற்று. அத்துணை பெருமை கொண்ட நூல் இது.
சான்றோருடைத்த தொண்டை நாட்டில் 12ஆம் நூற்றாண்டில் புலியூர்க் கோட்டம் பகுதியில் குன்றத்தூர் என்ற ஊரில் சைவ மரபில் தழைத்தூறிய வேளாண் பெருமக்கள் வாழ்ந்து வந்தனர். அத்தகைய ஒரு உயரிய குடும்பத்தில் வெள்ளியங்கிரி-அழகாம்பிகை தம்பதியினருக்கு மகனாய் அவதரித்தார் சேக்கிழார். இவருக்குப் பெற்றோர் சூட்டிய பெயர் அருண்மொழித்தேவர். ஆனால் குடிப்பெயரான சேக்கிழார் என்ற பெயரையே உலகம் போற்றி வழங்கலாயிற்று. இவருக்கு ஒரு தம்பி உண்டு. பெயர் பாலறாவாயர். குன்றத்தூர் சென்னையை அடுத்து உள்ளது.
கல்வி கேள்விகளில் இளம் வயதிலேயே சிறந்து விளங்கிய இவரின் பெருமை உலகின் அனைத்துப் பகுதிகளிலும் பரவலாயிற்று. இவரது தந்தையார் தொண்டை நாட்டு மன்னனிடம் பணி புரிந்து வந்தார்.
அந்நாளில் சோழ நாட்டை ஆண்டு வந்த மன்னன் மிகவும் புகழ் பெற்ற அநபாயன் என்பவன்.
ஒரு நாள் சோழ மன்னனான அநபாயன் என்னும் இரண்டாம் குலோத்துங்கனிடமிருந்து தொண்டை நாட்டு மன்னனுக்கு ஒரு ஓலை வந்தது. “கல்வி கேள்விகளில் மிக்கார் தொண்டைமண்டலத்தில் உள்ளோர் என்று கேள்விப் பட்டிருக்கிறோம். பூமியை விட, மலையை விட, கடலை விடப் பெரியது எது? விடை அறிய ஆவலாய் உள்ளோம்” என்ற அந்த ஓலையைப் பார்த்த மன்னன் தன் அவையில் உள்ள அறிவில் மிக்காரும், புலவர் பெருமக்களுமான அனைவர் முன்னிலையும் இதைப் படிக்கச் செய்தான். தக்க விடையை உடனே தருமாறு ஆணையிட்டான். கல்வி கேள்விகளில் சிறந்த சேக்கிழாரின் தந்தையார் மன்னனின் ஆணையை சிரமேற் கொண்டார். ஆனால் தக்க பதில் தான் அவருக்குத் தெரியவில்லை. வீடு சென்ற அவர் கவலையில் ஆழ்ந்தார். உண்ணவும் பிடிக்கவில்லை. இதைக் கண்ட அவரது புதல்வர் அருள்மொழித்தேவர் காரணத்தை வினவ மன்னனுக்கு வந்த ஓலை பற்றி அறிந்தார்.
“பூ, இவ்வளவு தானா! இதற்கு விடைகள் இதோ, என்று ஒலை நறுக்கில் பதிலை எழுதிக் கொடுத்தார்.”
அதைக் கண்ட தந்தையார் மனம் மிக மகிழ்ந்து அடுத்த நாள் அரசனிடம் அதைத் தந்தார். பதில் இது தான்:
காலத்தினாற் செய்த நன்றி சிறிதெனினும்
ஞாலத்தின் மாணப் பெரிது (குறள் எண் 102)
பயன் தூக்கார் செய்த உதவி நயன்தூக்கின்
நன்மை கடலிற் பெரிது (குறள் எண் 103 )
நிலையில் திரியாது அடங்கியான் தோற்றம்
மலையினும் மாணப் பெரிது (குறள் எண் 124)
உதவி செய்யப்பட்ட காலத்தை நினைத்துப் பார்த்தால், தப்பாமல் செய்யப்பட்ட அந்த உதவி சிறிது தான் எனினும் அது பூவுலகை விட மிகப் பெரியதாகும்.
எந்த விதப் பயனையும் எதிர்பார்க்காமல் ஒருவரால் செய்யப்பட்ட உதவியின் பெருமையினை சீர்தூக்கிப் பார்த்தால் அதன் நன்மை கடலை விட பெரியதாகும்.
எந்த ஒரு சூழ்நிலையிலும் கூட தன் நிலை மாறுபடாது அடங்கி இருப்பவனின் உயர்வானது மலையின் உயர்ச்சியை விடப் பெரியதாகும்.
தொண்டை மண்டல அரசன் இதை சோழனுக்கு அனுப்ப, இந்த விடையைக் கண்ணுற்ற அநபாய சோழன் பெரிதும் மகிழ்ச்சியுற்று இதைக் கூறிய பெருமகனை கௌரவிக்க பல்லக்கு வரிசையை அனுப்பினான்.
அருள் மொழித்தேவர் சோழனிடம் சென்றார். அவரது கல்வி கேள்வி மேன்மையைக் கண்ட சோழன் அவரைத் தனது அமைச்சராக நியமித்தான். சேக்கிழார் என்ற பெருமைக்குரிய பெயரால் சிறப்பிக்கப்பட்டு அப்படியே அவர் அழைக்கப்பட்டார். (சே- காளை; கிழார் – காளையை வாகனமாகக்கொண்ட சிவனின் பக்தர் – சேக்கிழார் என்பது குடிப்பெயரும் கூட). அவருக்கு உத்தம சோழப் பல்லவராயன் என்ற பட்டத்தை அநபாயன் அளித்து கௌரவித்தான்.
சோழ நாட்டில் அமைந்திருக்கும் திருநாகேஸ்வரம் தலத்தின் பால் மிகுந்த ஈடுபாடு கொண்டவர் சேக்கிழார். சிவபிரான் மீது காதலாகிக் கசிந்து க்ண்ணீர் மல்கும் பக்தியும் சிவனடியார் மீது அடங்கா ஆர்வமும் மதிப்பும் மரியாதையும் பக்தியும் கொண்டவர் அவர்.
ஒரு நாள் சமண சமய நூலான சீவக சிந்தாமணியை அரசவையில் விளக்கும்படி சோழன் ஆணையிட அந்த உரை ஆரம்பித்தது. அநபாயன் அதில் ஆழ்ந்து ஈடுபட்டு அதை ரசிக்கத் தொடங்கினான். சமண மதக் கொள்கையை விளக்கி சமணரால் செய்யப்பட்ட சிந்தாமணியை அருள்மொழிவர்மர் ரசிக்கவில்லை. அந்த நூல் படிக்க ஆரம்பித்தவுடன் அவர் எழுந்து செல்லலானார். இதைக் கண்ணுற்ற மன்னன் காரணத்தை வினவ இதை விட பெருமை மிக்க அடியார்கள் வாழ்ந்த பூமி இது என்று பதில் கூறினார் சேக்கிழார். அப்படியானால் அந்த அடியார்கள் சரித்திரத்தைக் கூறுங்கள் என்று மன்னன் கேட்க சேக்கிழாரும் அவர் தம் பெருமையை விளக்கிக் கூறினார். இதனால் வியப்புற்ற மன்னன் உலக மக்கள் அனைவரும் பயன் பெறும் வகையில் அதை நூலாக்குமாறு வேண்டினான்.

GREAT SUBRAMANIAN SWAMY AND ORDINARY LONDON SWAMI nathan who organised a meeting in London to condemn the arresst of KANCHI SHANKARACHARYA by Jayalalitha.
Many years ago I received a phone call from a Scottish lady who spoke English with Scottish accent. She asked my permission to ask some questions on my funding application to National Lottery. I raised two lakh sterling pounds to help charities like London Sath Sangam, South Indian Society, Tamil Heritage Foundation, Sindhi Mandir, World Hindu Mahasangam and London Tamil Sangam. This was one of those funding applications
The lady praised Yoga, Hinduism and Vegetarian food and asked me ‘Swamiji, what are you doing?’ (as a saint/Swamiji)
I wanted to laugh wildly, but out of politeness, I said to her I am a name’s sake Swamiji. Only my name is Swami. I am as weak as every other human being; may be weaker than millions of Hindus! Then she asked some clarifications on my funding request. (In the National Lottery Funding application there is a question ‘what would you like us to address you; give a short name; so I gave my name as ‘Swami’; she added the honorific suffix ‘JI’)
Swami was my name in the BBC as well. This embarrassed another Tamil lady. ‘Oh I cant call you Swami’ (In Hindu B&W feature films, husbands are addressed Swami!!. She told me she can’t use the other part of my name as well Nathan; Natha also meant ‘my darling husband’!!)
I would tell you another interesting anecdote in my life. One day my father V santanam phoned our home saying Mouna Guru Swamy is coming from Kovilpatti (??) in the evening. Our rented house was always full of rubbish. With five siblings scattering everything everywhere we hurriedly cleaned the place. My mother rushed to the door entrance, sprinkled water and drew a Kolam (Rangoli) to welcome the Swamiji. Our house is always visited by all Swamijis, both genuine and frauds.
Swami Shantananda of Pudukkottai came to my house in 20, North Masi Street, Madurai as the first house to be visited. He was doing Tapas in the forests of Western Ghats, which was told to us by Swamiji Krishna of Aykkudi.
Sringeri Mahasannidhanam Sri Abhinava Vidhya Bharati visited our house and blessed us individually by giving fruits. Kanchi paramacharaya rarely visited any home during Chatur Masya Vrata (Staying homebound for Four Months of Rainy Period is called Chatur Masya Vrata for Sanyasins). So he stopped in front of my house and asked ‘Oh is it the house of Santanam?’ That means ‘I bless you guys!’ Swamiji Krishna of Aykkudi visited several times and did Ganapati Homam in my house.
(Kanchi Paramacharya did two Chatur masya Camps in and around Madurai in my time until 1986. First time, when he stayed at Setupati High School , Madurai, none of us went for his darshan. We brothers, were playing cards during that period. We stupid people thought that Paying Cards for fun was an abominable sin! Now we laugh at ourselves knowing that even big criminals also saw him without any fear; second time when he camped at Narayanapuram, we visited him and attended beautiful Sadas- a cultural seminar cum show)
Among the fraudulent Swamijis, one woman called Mataji , who took Madurai by storm by bringing out small idols out of Kunkum in her palm, also visited my house ; she gave my mum and dad silver Vigrahas/idols My father also gave her huge publicity in Dinamani Newspaper ; but we came to know later that she was arrested in Mumbai for frauds. Another fraud was Sangu Mahan (Conch shell is Sangu; shank became S/Conch/k in English). There were several complaints about him later. There was another fraud who dressed himself exactly like Sri Sathya Sai Baba and was booked by police later.
That reminds me where I started. So the above said Mouna Guru Swamy came in the evening. To our surprise . he was only a name sake Swami like me. He dressed himself in the purest white clothes wearing cooling glasses, looking exactly like Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose. We expected a great Swamiji like Sri Shanthanantha of Pudukkottai in saffron clothes with matted hair rolling on the ground. But this was a gentleman with clean shaved, crop cut hair. But without laughing, we took him inside and gave all the dishes we prepared. By the time, my dad also arrived from the office. Because of the delay only my father warned us to receive him in his absence. And the word Swami confused all of us.
Again one more bit from my Purana! Even today I receive e mails ‘Swamiji, please look at my horoscope, when will I get a job? When I will get married? When I will get a baby? When my mother will be cured of cancer?’ etc
The last cancer case was dealt with me a few days ago. He casually mentioned that he was doing all Pujas by giving her Ayur Vedic medicine. I immediately sent him a mail, ‘Please give her advanced allopathic treatment in addition to Pujas’. Our people don’t realise Ayurveda is more of a preventive medicine than actual treatment.
So, in short, these people don’t realise that I am as weak as every human being. The names are deceptive. More over when I write about Vedas and Gitas they thought that I am a real Swamiji. Unfortunately, I cant change my name now. Because I was born nearer to Swamimalai of Lord Skanda /Muruga on a Skanda Shasti day my mum and dad gave me that name.
My mother, till her death, used to pay some money to Madurai Thiruppugaz Sabha in Adi Veethi of Madurai Meenakshi Temple, to do special prayer for me during the Skanda Shasti period.
So the moral of the story is, Pease don’t get fooled by names! (particularly SWAMI Nathan!!)

ஆலயம் அறிவோம் தொடரில் இன்று நமது யாத்திரையில் இடம் பெறுவது 108 வைணவ திவ்ய க்ஷேத்திரங்களுள் ஒன்றாகத் திகழும் ‘தாள தாமரைத் தட வயல் சூழ்’ திருமோகூர் திருத்தலம் ஆகும்.இத்தலம் மதுரைக்கு வடகிழக்கே பத்து கிலோமீட்டார் தூரத்தில் உள்ளது.
மூலவர் திரு நாமம் : காளமேகப் பெருமாள்
உற்சவர் : திருமோகூர் ஆப்தன் என்று அழைக்கப்படுகிறார்.
தாயார் : மோகனவல்லி
ஸ்ரீ தேவி பூதேவி சமேதராய் கிழக்கு நோக்கி காளமேகப் பெருமாள் நின்ற கோலத்தில் இருந்து அருள் பாலிக்கிறார்.
பெருமாள் சந்நிதிக்குத் தெற்கே தாயார் சந்நிதி உள்ளது. தாயார் எந்தக் காலத்திலும் கோவில் படியைத் தாண்டியதில்லை. ஆகவே இவர் படி தாண்டாப் பத்தினி என்று பக்தர்களால் போற்றி வணங்கப்படுகிறார்.
பகவான் மோகினி அவதாரம் எடுத்ததால் இந்த ஊர் திருமோனவூர் என்ற பெயரைப் பெற்றது. காலப் போக்கில் மருவி திருமோகூர் என்று இப்போது அழைக்கப்படுகிறது.
இத்தலத்தைப் பற்றிய புராண வரலாறு பிரசித்தி பெற்ற ஒன்று. திருப்பாற்கடல் கடையப்பட்டபோது அமிர்தம் வெளியாகவே அதைப் பெற அசுரர்களுக்கும் தேவர்களுக்கும் போட்டி ஏற்பட்டது. மஹாவிஷ்ணு மோகினி அவதாரம் எடுத்து அசுரர்களை மயக்கி விரட்டவே தேவர்கள் அமுதம் பெற்று மகிழ்ந்தனர். அவர் மோகினி வடிவம் கொண்டு அருள் பாலித்த இந்தத் தலத்திலேயே அவர் அர்ச்சாவதாரமாகக் காட்சி அளிக்குமாறு தேவர்கள் வேண்ட, அப்படியே அவர் இங்கு எழுந்தருளியுள்ளார்.
பிரம்மாண்ட புராணம் பிரம்ம தேவன் இங்கு தவம் இயற்றியதைக் கூறுகிறது.
மத்ஸ்ய புராணம் புகழும் தலம் இது. இத்தலம் பற்றி இன்னொரு வரலாறும் உண்டு. துவாபர யுகத்தில் புலஸ்திய மஹரிஷி தனக்குப் புத்திரன் வேண்டி இங்கு தவம் புரிந்தார். அவரது தவத்தை மெச்சி தரிசனம் தந்த காளமேகப் பெருமாள் அவருக்கு விஸ்ருவர் என்ற மகன் பிறக்க வரம் தந்தார். அவர் வேண்டுதலுக்கு இணங்க இங்கேயே மோகினியாகக் காட்சியளித்தார். இன்றும் காட்சி தருகிறார்.
இங்கு கோயிலின் தென்மேற்குப் பகுதியில் உள்ள பீஜாக்ஷரத்துடன் உள்ள சக்கரத்தாழ்வார் சந்நிதி மிகவும் பிரசித்தி பெற்ற ஒன்றாகும். முன்புறம் சக்கரதாழ்வாராகவும் பின்புறம் நரசிங்கப் பெருமாளாகவும் காட்சி அளிக்கும் சக்கரத்தாழ்வார் 48 தேவதைகள் சுற்றிலும் இருக்க, 6 வட்டங்களுக்குள் 154 எழுத்துக்கள் பொறிக்கப்பட்டிருக்க, 16 திருக்கரங்களில் 16 படைக்கலங்கள் ஏந்தி 3 கண்களுடன் காட்சி அளித்து அருள் பாலிக்கிறார். அவரது திருமுடி தீயென ஜொலிக்கிறது.
கிழக்கு நோக்கி அமைந்துள்ள பிரம்மாண்டமான திருக்கோவில் ஐந்து நிலை ராஜகோபுரத்துடன் காணப்படுகிறது. இரு பிரகாரங்கள் உள்ளன. கோவிலின் இடப்புறத்தில் மிகப்பெரிய திருபாற்கடல் தீர்த்தம் உள்ளது. இந்தத் திருக்குளத்தில் அமுதம் கடையும் போது அதன் ஒரு துளி இதில் விழுந்ததால் அது இப்பெயரைப் பெற்றது. அதன் எதிரே பதினெட்டாம்படி கருப்பணசாமி கோவில் உள்ளது. இன்றும் இயற்கைச் சூழல் மாறாமல் தாள தாமரைத் தடமணி வயல் சூழ் திருமோகூராகவே இத்தலம் இருப்பது இதன் தனிச் சிறப்பாகும்.
கோவிலின் இரண்டாம் பிரகாரத்தில் வடகிழக்கில் பெருமாள் சயன கோலத்தில் காட்சி அளிக்கிறார். இத்தலத்தில் இவர் பிரார்த்தனா சயனத்தில் காட்சி அளிப்பது ஒரு சிறப்பாகும். காளமேகப் பெருமாள் சந்நிதிக்கு வடக்குப் பகுதியில் ஆண்டாள் சந்நிதி உள்ளது. ஆஞ்சநேயர், நவநீதகிருஷ்ணன் சந்நிதிகளும் பிரகாரத்தில் தெற்கே வடக்குப் பார்த்து தரிசனம் தருகின்றனர்.
நம்மாழ்வார் பல தலங்களுக்கும் சென்று மங்களாசாஸனம் செய்துள்ள போதிலும் இங்குள்ள காளமேகப் பெருமாளே அவருக்கு மோக்ஷம் அடைய வழிகாட்டி அருளினார் என்பது இந்தத் தலத்தின் தனிச் சிறப்பாகும். இங்கு, ஒரே கல்லினால் ஆன பல அருமையான சிற்ப வேலைப்பாடுகள் பார்ப்பவரை பிரமிக்க வைக்கும். பாண்டிய மன்னர்கள், நாயக்க மன்னர்கள், சிவகங்கை மருது பாண்டியர் உள்ளிட்ட ஏராளமான மன்னர்கள் இக்கோவிலில் பல திருப்பணிகளைச் செய்து வந்துள்ளனர்.
நம்மாழ்வாரும் திருமங்கை ஆழ்வாரும் இத்தலம் பற்றி மங்களாசாஸனம் செய்து அருளியுள்ளனர். இந்தத் தலம் பற்றி சங்க இலக்கியப் பாடல் கூறுகிறது. அது மட்டுமின்றி, அண்மைக்காலம் வரை ஏராளமான இலக்கியங்கள் படைக்கப்பட்டுள்ளன
காலம் காலமாக ஆயிரக்கணக்கான பக்தர்களுக்கு அருள்பாலித்து வரும் காளமேகப்பெருமாளும் மோகனவல்லித் தாயாரும் சக்கரத்தாழ்வாரும்அனைவருக்கும் சர்வ மங்களத்தைத் தர ஞானமயம் சார்பில் பிரார்த்திக்கிறோம்.

சு. இராமலிங்க சுவாமிகள் (சீகம்பட்டியார்) சிறந்த சிவ பக்தர். தினமும் சோதிடம் சொல்லுதல்,சைவ சமயச் சொற்பொழிவுகளை நிகழ்த்துதல் ஆகியவற்றையே தவமாகக்கொண்டு வாழ்கின்றவர். சைவ சித்தாந்தம்,திருமுறைகள்,புராணங்கள்,தேவார இசை, சோதிடம் முதலான பல துறைகளிலும் ஆழ்ந்த புலமை பெற்றவர். “சீகம்பட்டியார்”, என்றும் “பெரிய சோதிடர்” என்றும்,“குளித்தலையார்” என்றும் அனைவராலும் அழைக்கப்படுகின்றார்
